Skype Chat Window Lacks Border

All other programs I have installed run with window borders just fine, except the Skype chat window. The contact list window also works fine, as do all other windows related to Skype, except for the chat. Any solutions?
On a side note, hello Arch Linux Forums! This is my second account, as my first one had to be deleted, but it's great to be back in the community!

What WM/DE is this?  Window decorations are 100% the responsibility of the window manager - so tell us about which one you use, how you've configured it, etc.
EDIT: and what does this mean
This is my second account, as my first one had to be deleted
As a rule we do not delete accounts.  What account was that?

After making a call with Skype, ANY chat window stops displaying text as you type in a message. Any ideas on how to fix this ? Skype 7.9 on MacOS Yosemite 10.10.3 Graeme

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit version).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • Skype chat window suddenly turned portrait mode

I was chatting with my friend, and I tapped my trackpad a few times, then my chat window suddenly turned into a portrait-like mode. I'm not sure if this is a glitch, or if it's just a feature I don't know about. I can't figure out how to get it back to normal, and it's getting annoying. Can anyone help? I've added a screenshot in case you don't know what I'm talking about. The problem stays even after switching to full screen mode.

  • Useless chat window in skype 6.18 with coloured b...

WTH is this on new Skype with the chat window and coloured boxes you can only see about 3 posts at a time. How can I get the normal chat text back?
and the supid profile picture in the chat window too. Oh this is too much now Skype is just getting ridiculous

Thanks for the link to the earlier version of Skype, version 7.0 is just bl**dy awful. I simply do not understand MS, they seem to be hell bent on destroying Skype which, until MS took over, was a nice simple slick program to use. I think there may be a great many profssional users like me that want to throw up with all this 'social media' bulldust and what seems to be a 'dumbing down' of the application (this also applies to the latest incarnation of 'hotmail', yuck). Sometimes I feel that MS think all their users are morons that need their hands held all the time!!!
Version 7 stuck pictures again my contacts list, at a stroke leaving only 30% of my contacts visible. Oh yes you can turn the pictures off (thank goodness) BUT the space the pictures took up remains so my list was STILL showing only 30% as many names as it did. Then there is the appalling colour scheme in the chat window. The pale shade of blue made it pretty near impossible to see the date stamp at the right!  MUCH happier with the older version 6 back in place, I still prefer version 5 but MS won't allow that to run
Needless to say this time I have made certain that automatic updates are off!!

How do I delete my chat history in Skype for windows 8?

As of August 2013 this DOES NOT WORK with the Windows 8 version. To prove: Start a text chat, let both parties create a few messages. Follow method for clearing chat (Windows-C, Settings, Options, Clear History) Go back into Skype chat of same person as before Entire history is still there. Shut down PC and restart. Go into Skype. Open chat window for same user. Entire history is still there. Install Skype for Desktop Log on Go into settings, IM/SMS Set history to "do not save history" Clear history Log off Skype for Desktop Go back into Skype Windows 8 version History all still there. DO NOT KEEP TELLING US THIS SOLUTION - IT DOES NOT WORK. You demonstrate that you're more interested in getting points in here than actually testing the supposed solution you suggest. • Submit: Great Skype for Windows Phone ideas

We have just launched a new Windows Phone idea board to let you all share and exchange your ideas on how to improve and develop Skype for Windows Phone.
Before you start sharing your ideas, here are some guidelines to help you get started:
    Idea Submission Guidelines
Search before posting. Do a quick search and make sure you are not submitting a duplicate. If the idea already exists show your support by giving kudos to the original idea rather than watering down the potential impact across multiple submissions.
Draft your idea. Be as clear as possible, tell us what your idea is, how it would benefit users and why you think we should consider it. That will not only help us to better understand what you want, but we may even be able to solve your problem more quickly another way. Please avoid text speak and keep the idea short and to the point. Ideas are available within a limited number of topic sections of the community as they are not discussion threads.
Currently you can choose one of the following topic labels for your ideas:
    Video Messaging
We‘ve just launched Video Messaging on Windows Phone so you can now send video messages to family and friends, even when they’re not online. Let us know what you think of Video Messaging on Windows Phone and any ideas you have for how we can make it better.
    Phone Integration
Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Contacts
How can we make it easier for you to find friends and family on Skype and add them as a contact? What are your thoughts on how contacts are managed on Skype for Windows Phone? Do you have any recommended improvements?
    Calling
Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Instant Messaging
Video calling is one of Skype’s most popular features. What do/don’t you like about Video calling on Skype for Windows Phone and do you have any ideas for how we can make video calling even better?
    Some things to include:
    Start with a clear title
    add appropriate label(s)
    list features and benefits
Review the ideas of others. Look at other ideas to see what your fellow community members are requesting and feel free to exchange on them in the comments section. While we take into account the numbers of kudos an idea receives, we also consider the amount and quality of member feedback when making our decisions.
Add value. Vote for those items that you like and agree with by giving the idea a kudos. It's really a significant way to recognize someone's effort. We are using votes as a barometer to find out more about what our contributor community thinks is important, so we can factor this into our prioritization process.
Submit a new idea. Adding an idea is just like posting a message on a board. To create an idea, click on the “New Idea” button, located on the left side of the page content tab, and in the left column under the actions heading click “create an idea”. Be sure to enter a clear title and description of your idea so others can decide how they would like to vote. Remember, the more complete your thought, the more likely it is to get noticed! You can use simple HTML, format the text, or add links or images. You can also preview your idea and check your spelling before you post the idea.
Do not be discouraged. Sometimes what seems simple may not be so simple to build. Some ideas take longer than others, and some ideas will not be possible within the scope of what we want to accomplish in the next year or so.
Be respectful. Comply with the Community Guidelines and Skype etiquette.
Disclaimer: Skype may or may not use your comments, ideas, or suggestions. Skype reserves the right to use for any purpose including commercial purposes, comments, ideas, suggestions, code, products or services (“Content”) that are posted on this community without any obligation to compensate the individual or entity that provided the Content. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Idea Board all about?
Idea Board is a new part of the Skype Community, where members can share their ideas about existing products and services. Anyone in the community can see and vote on the ideas you post.
We encourage you to give kudos and comment on submitted ideas as we are more likely to take the top kudoed and most discussed ones into consideration.
How do I navigate the Ideas Board?
Finding your way around the ideas board is a pretty straightforward task, here are some of the things you will see to help you get around.
    •  New Ideas – The most recent ideas.
    •  Hot Ideas – The most popular ideas right now.
    •  Top Ideas – The most kudoed ideas.
    The sidebar widgets
In the sidebar you'll find more ways to sort the ideas board, see new and popular ideas and the top rated contributors to the idea board. It's also really easy to view only the ideas with certain status', for instance if you only want to see ideas that are “Accepted”.
How to check if an idea exists already?
Use the search function filtering by the ideas board – or click here (direct link to search function)
    What do the votes/kudos mean?
Just as you can give kudos in the community boards and blogs, you can vote for ideas you like on the Idea Board. Ideas with high vote totals are more likely to be recognized and accepted by the teams at Skype who develop our products and services. You can also leave comments on ideas, but remember to be kind!
What do the different idea statuses mean?
We strive to review submitted ideas on a biweekly/monthly cycle. Each idea will go through a life cycle that will be assigned statuses at each milestone. The statuses are explained here:
New Idea - Sparkly new idea, submitted by you, and ready to be vetted by the community.
Comments Requested - Items set as Comments Requested will be open to the community for feedback and votes.
Under consideration - Idea has been forwarded to appropriate business team who is determining feasibility.
More information needed - More information is needed before our Product Management team can take this forward, please review the comments left by the team.
Duplicate - Ideas in this status have already been submitted in some form or another. We will link these items over to the other idea so you can review the status or track the progress there.
Already exists - This is available in the product.
Future possibility - Idea is a good one but not something we can include in a near-term product or software release.
Accepted - Idea has been accepted and has been taken forward for implementation, check back soon for updates.
Not right now - We like the idea but just not for right now, we will revisit it in the future.
Implemented - You asked for it, we did it!
My idea has been accepted. How long will it take to be implemented?
Sadly, we will not be able to provide dates for the implementation of any accepted ideas within the community due to the number of factors involved. Please be patient and let us make sure it is completely ready before we make it available.
How will I know if an idea has been implemented?
You can track the status of your ideas as your ideas are sent to the people here at Skype who can make them happen and you will see the status of your idea is updated. We will be telling you if the idea is something we are working on now or would like to do in the future, or if it’s something that is not feasible for us at this time. To ensure you don’t miss any updates select “Subscribe” from the “Idea Options” menu when viewing your idea.
What ideas have been implemented so far?
You can check "Accepted and Implemented ideas" topic here.
Can I edit or delete my ideas comments?
No, you can't. Be sure to check your spelling and preview your comment before you post it; you can't edit a comment once it's posted.
Who and how often moderates/ manages the ideas board?
The community team is monitoring the board on the daily basis and product managers will come in on a monthly basis to update statuses of the ideas and post their comments.
If Skype decides not to pursue my idea, will you tell me why?
We do not always provide the reasons for our decisions regarding ideas submitted for review but will strive to provide an explanation where possible.
I have an idea to improve the Windows Phone software itself?
Microsoft has set up a Windows Phone Feature Suggestion Box for exactly that purpose. Share your idea here: http://windowsphone.uservoice.com
If I am not comfortable submitting my idea over the Internet, is there another way I can do so?
    No.

I would really appreciate if you guys work on the feature “ custom backgrounds for chat notifications”.If users will be able to choose any image of their liking in the custom background feature if would add value. Currently some of the chat messengers provide this facility to the users which makes interesting to the users while improving user friendliness and satisfaction. Options that would include areTake a photoChoose from albumsSearch from webDeleteThat appears to be a reasonably robust selection. In search, a user can use a built in engine to pull up images based on search and then select it as it their choice. Once you chose an image, it will be asked to confirm and ‘set’ as the universal chat window for all contacts.

  • Skype chat links are not opening in firefox on Mac

    Hello,
I have Mac book pro running OS 10.6.8 "Snow Leopard", skype 6.15 (335), and my default browser is Firefox version 32.0.3.
Recently I experience a problem when someone send me a link it dose not open in Firefox, actually it switch to Firefox when I click on the link on Skype chat but no new tab is opening. I have to right click the link and then choose "Open URL" to get the link.
If you have any suggestions please help.
    Thank You

I had a similar problem on a website when a particular page was writing on the screen. This particular page later discovered contained a code that disabled anything from being clicked on or selected etc. It was as though there was an invisible windows in front (literally there was). I removed the code and everything went back to normal.
Nothing wrong with Firfefox, Windows or Ubuntu. Incidentally, windows Internet Explorer v8 didn't have a problem since it was not up to date to handle the new CSS code. :)
Here's the code that prevented anything on the page from being clicked:
    <div id="FirebombOverlay" style="display: block; position: fixed; left: 0pt; top: 0pt; width: 100%; height: 100%; margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt; outline: medium none; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent; z-index: 999999;"></div>
Most likely it got injected there without the user being aware of it. This was injected back in march 2012 so since then the browsers did not pick it up and just plainly ignored the code until new browser updates got installed to handle the css code.
I have no idea how it got there but my best guess would be a silent plugin of which I have no idea which one.
The above code is some form of style sheet code that puts a layer in front of the page. It would be put into good use in stopping people from selected the page contents or to do damage to there site. You can perhaps put it over images from stopping people downloading using browser right click save image command.
I hope this would help those who are having the problem.

  • Support for multiple languages in Skype Chat

    Hi,
on my Windows 8.1 laptop, the default language is English, but I have several Windows language packs installed. In Outlook or within a web browser, I can switch easily between languages when typing, and create emails in different languages simultaneously.
In Skype chat however, there is no Right-Click option to change the language, and if I am writing in French, auto-correct keeps trying to change words to English, resulting in lots of typos.
Selecting Tools, Change language to French just seems to change the menu selections and Skype interface, but autocorrect, spelling prompts remain in English?
Any suggestions on how to make Skype play nice and let me switch languages within the chat windows?
    Thanks!

    Hi michaelwhyte

  • Automatically hide Skype in Windows 7 taskbar on s...

Is there a way to make the Skype taskbar field automatically hide when Skype starts up? It did it on XP, now it's not doing it on 7 and I see no option for it. I do know how to make it always show in the notification and close it manually from the taskbar so that is not the problem, I just dislike having to close it manually every time.

Unfortunately regardless of the settings you still have to close the initial main form manually.  I was wondering if it could be done so I made a C# application to do it.  It just needs to launch after Skype executes.  So if you have it run at startup then you would want "HideSkype" to be the last program running.  Alternatively you can use the provided Skype.cmd file to launch it as well at any time. It's set to a 10 second delay to allow Skype enough time to sign-in automatically to a default account.
You will probably need .NET Framework 4.0 or above installed or you computer for it to work.  This has been tested many times on my Windows 7 machine.  You will need to fill out the skypeid.txt file with your skypeid for it to work properly.  Be aware this does not close/minimize all of Skype's windows.   It is targeted to solely close the main Skype window.  However, if Skype is set to default view vs. compact view it will close that complete window which includes that active chat session encased in the same window.
If I find out later I have to correct an error, any new version can be downloaded from here:

Feel free to scan it with your AntiVirus, mine says it's clean, as it should be.

  • Emoticon sign in chat window, what is yours?

I noticed that "emoticon" button in the chat window may be different, I saw it both with "smiling mouth" and with "upside down" mouth. I noticed that in different Skype clients on different machines and also on images published elsewhere like in reviews about Skype and how-to's.
"Upside-down" sign occurs not so often as "smiling". Why it differs and depends of what? I'm curious.
And what is your emoticon sign?

  • Chat window with active caller always closed by de...

Since updating to the latest version of Skype v6.18 for Mac, the chat window for active callers is always automatically closed. For example, if I call someone and then want to send them a link via chat, I need to click the "+" icon, then choose "instant message" to open the chat box again. For each new call, the chat box is automatically closed again. I manage a remote team of developers and as you can imagine we use Skype for calls and chat all the time. We're always sending chat messages while on a call and it's super annoying to have to re-open the chat box for every active call every time. I can't understand the point of this except to say that it must be a bug and so I'd like to flag it with you to fix.

I agree.  This is definitely an annoyance for me and my team.  Like the original poster I manage a remote team of developers and post messages in nearly every call.  Having the message window hidden on every new call causes an extra few keystrokes on almost every call.  Of course this isn't a show-stopping issue for me since there is an easy workaround but it does decrease Skype's usability for my use case.

  • Chat window in Version 7.0 too large

    Hello,
I just got upgraded to Version 7.0 and the chat window is way to big and cannot be made any smaller. Even when I split the view and choose compact view (with the latter not really making any difference whatsoever) it is still too big for my needs. Plus when I split the view I have a 2nd Icon on the taskbar which bothers me.
Is there no way to just blend the contact list in and out of view by clicking on some arrow or mimimizing the width to about 1/3 of the "normal" smallest width? This is eating up too much space on my screen and looks ugly on top. The add window on top of the chat and the area with the contact info of my chat partner are also too big, at least the latter should be able to be reduced to 1 or two lines - I know with whom I am speaking.
It feels to me that whoever designed this had only touchsceen users or big monitors in mind. I have attached a screenshot from another program where I need less than a quarter of the space on my screen to give an Idea of what I am looking for.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

In split view, the chat window can be resized just hold your mouse in any corner of the window. The second item on your taskbar is your chat window (skype should be in systray so you really should only have one), you will have one for each conversation (if that is what you choose in settings, i assume you do not have a std Vista/w7 taskbar, in that case it will be only one for all of them).
Yes the font for Contact name is laughtable large (they will fix this is my guess). In split view, you just close Skype and the contact list will goto systray, along with skype itself, doubbleclick brings it back up.
You can also select compact view (not sure of the exact wording here) for the contact list under Viev in skype main window.
