Skype crashing and Quicktime updates
So I've had the newest Macbook pro or about a year or so, all the basic model I believe (Mac OS X Version 10.9.2).
I'm not to great with technology so I may be trying all the wrong solutions and I don't know anything intricate about software ect.. anyway..Here is my problem:
After turnng my computer off once, Skype would not open again.
Upon trying to open the application it crashes saying 'Skype has quit unexpectedly'. Wanting to use the program, I have deleted it and re-downloaded the whole application, to no avail (numerous times).
I then looked online for answers, one suggestion was to create a new user on your computer and use skype in only that user, this hasn't worked along with checking all my mac software updates ect (They are all up to date)...Although I am not sure if I am using the correct verison of Quicktime player. I currently have version 10.3 that was already on my mac when I bought it. Since then a new update (I think) has been relased called 'QuickTime Verison 7.7.3' So I downloaded this also and tried opening Skype again. This didn't work. Upon believing that Skype was still trying to open with the Version 10.3 I tried to delete it but my computer wont allow me to as it says that it is needed for Mac OS X to run.
I believe this is the reason it continuously crashes, that the wrong Quicktime player is being used by the skype application, but I could also be completely wrong. Is there a way to get my Mac to use the new version of QuickTime?
Has anyone else experienced this problem and has a solution or suggestions as to how it could be resolved...?
This is becoming extremely annoying and I haven't been able to use the application for a few months.. Thankyou.
It has nothing to do with QuickTime - and everything to do with Skype and, possibly, some user kernel extensions that you're running.
Please download, unzip and run EtreCheck and post the results in a reply here.

Hi . Ever since I downloaded the last itunes and quicktime update ( a week or so ago), I can't access any movies or video podcasts i have store in itunes on my pc (vista). iTunes crashes and my error reports tell me it is a quicktime error. Do i uninstall and reinstall quicktime, or completely uninstall itunes and reinstall it -- if so, what will i lose? Help, please!
Let's try the following user tip:
iTunes for Windows 10.7.0.21: "iTunes has stopped working" error messages when playing videos, video podcasts, movies and TV shows -
I received an ITunes and Quicktime update notice on my Windows 7 PC, from Apple this morning. During the update installation, RealPlayer installed. What gives? Why is Realplayer installing with the Apple software.
Thanks for the reply. I went back to check if there was a history in windows (Event Viewer) but could not locate it in Win7. The only updates that were in the Apple Updater window were the Quicktime and ITunes. Had I let the Realplayer continue on its own, it would have installed the Google Chrome and other apps. I let it finish installing and then removed the entire program. I do not remember checking or seeing anything saying that realplayer was being downloaded until after a reboot was requested from the ITunes Update Installer.
I just thought it was strange since I do not use Realplayer and have not downloaded any software for it.
I am on a corporate PC with a pretty thick firewall, but something may have slipped through.
Thanks again for the assistance. -

Skype crashes since Leopard Update 1.5.1
I am aware of the fact that my problem has more to do with a third party than with Apple I really would appreciate some input on my Skype problem. I already have been researching solutions within the Skype fora and posted an official bug report, however I can't find any solution that works for me. Here goes:
I had a MBP 1.1 with Leopard 1.5.
I was using Skype 2.6.0.184 and it worked fine. Than there was an update towards Leopard 1.5.1 somewhere around the new year. Since then Skype hangs on login. This is the sequence:
* Startup of Skype
* I see my contact list, even with the people that are online
* It hangs within 5 seconds.
* Same routine again
I know there is an issue with the Leopard firewall. However my problem is different. I did try all the helpful input on all these issues and it didn't do a thing. (Locking of app files, launching from dmg, open up firewall etc.etc.)
I tried every option, both with Skype 2.6.0.184 & Skype 2.7.0.195 BETA
The last remarkable thing I noticed was in the Problem Report stating:
Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x0000000000000004
Crashed Thread: 0
Somehow I have the feeling that this points towards a hardware issue, maybe a driver issue, since some "BUS" is mentioned.
Working on this for more than a week now. During the last year Skype really grew into my workflow and I am feeling quite left out right now. Your feedback is much appreciated.

Check to make sure there is enough free space on the startup disk for updates to be installed. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.*
If disk space isn't the issue, login to another user account on your Mac. If Safari crashes there, launch Disk Utility /Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left the select the FirstAid tab. Click: Verify. If Disk Utility reports that the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions here. You will need your install disc..
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your startup disk and click Restart

How do I take the photo's and video's off my iPhone?... if 'iPhoto' on my mac keeps continually crashing and now refuses to open…?
I need to do this to update my apple software in iTunes, so that I can rid the bugs on my phone and take photo's again.
Is there another way to take the photos/videos off my iPhone and onto the mac? and also to delete them off the phone after I have put them on my hard drive?
It use to be as simple as find, drag and drop into a folder on my old pc. This should be much simpler, any advice or direction extremely welcome……?
From iphotofandangoHi Iphotofandango,
There is an alternative to using iPhoto for transferring photos from an iOS device. You can use Image Capture, which will allow you to transfer photos easily. Image Capture is a tool already on your Mac. The following article may help:
Image Capture: Transfer images and other items from your device
Transfer images, video clips, and MP3 sounds to your computer from many cameras and devices that contain a camera, such as your iPhone. Once you transfer the items, you can delete them from the device.
Connect your device to your computer, then turn the device on.If the device is locked with a passcode, enter it.
In Image Capture, select the device in the Devices list.
Use the buttons at the bottom of the Image Capture window to view the thumbnails as a list or as icons to change the size of the thumbnails, or to rotate or delete images.
From the Import To pop-up menu, choose where to save the images or which app to use to open the image.
To import only some of the photos, select those photos, then click Import. To import all the photos, click Import All.Choose AutoImporter from the “Connecting this [device] opens” pop-up menu to transfer images from a device to your computer whenever you connect it to your computer.
Select “Delete after Import” to remove the items from the device after transferring them to your computer. You can also select individual items on your device, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
For more information about connecting and using your device, refer to the documentation that came with it.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
Take care,

Skype Crashed And Now PC Runs Into BSOD
Hello, today I was using skype and my internet connection dropped for a while, and my skype stopped working, then my entire pc crashed ( since skype use lots of ram ), So after 30 minutes of crashed pc I managed to cut the power off so I can restart it, but now my PC is running into BSOD when windows startup process is finished.
This IS a problem related to skype because it's not the first time it happens, and only happens when skype crashes. Also my skype keeps crashing when I or someone sends a image ( since skype tries to show it on the chat while download or uploading ).
Solved!
Go to Solution.Reboot your computer in Safe Mode. Open Windows System Configuration tool (msconfig.exe) -> Startup tab. Uncheck Skype from startup option.
Reboot in normal mode.and run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit option).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here. -
Skype crash and disk errors - a cautionary tale
Skype crashed (again) hanging the whole computer. Forced shutdown: restarted in single-user mode and ran Applejack. Reported a number of overlapping files. Nasty.
Ran DiskWarrior. It reported 197,192 overlapping files and hung. I thought about it a bit, re-ran Applejack and flushed the caches. This left only a couple of minor errors which were easily repaired.
Presumably Skype messed up its own cache files (197,000 though...!). Anyway, despite what Applejack's instructions say, it looks like it's worth clearing the caches before doing a disk repair - or at least before doing anything else if this sort of error shows up.Most modern drives automatically map bad sectors during use. It is a transparent process. Just because the drive has bad sectors means nothing - practically every drive will have them. What would be disturbing is if the automatic sector mapping is failing and is not discovering the bum sectors. This is why once a drive starts to behave badly and DiskWarrior can''t fix it, I never trust it again.
If I keep it in use, about the only thing it's good for is a render scratch drive - that is - a drive that simply holds temp files. That way, when it dies, nothing serious is lost. Using it as your only back up, especially after it has given fair warning of going bad, would be ... um ... not smart.
Under the fwiw category, external drives can act flaky simple through dying power supplies. The drive mechanism may be fine but is being corrupted by intermittent or wavering voltage.
Also, I'm no fan of partitioning. ymmv.

Skype crashing and poor performance
Hello!
I have a Lumia625 with WP8.1. My problem is that Skype has a really poor performance on my phone. It crashes 6 times out of 10 on startup, and even if I manage to start it, the whole app is slow and laggy. Sometimes I can't even write a message it's so laggy. Video call is absolutely out of the question. It crashes my whole phone. I have no similar problems with other instant messaging apps nor with high-end games. There is something obviously using way more resource in the Skype app than it's supposed to. It's a simple chat program, why would it need so much resource?
The problem seems to be originating from the lower (512 mb) RAM size of my phone model, because I experienced the same effect with poorly written apps, that don't keep in mind that there are 512 RAM devices, not only 1GB+ ones, and use too much resource.
Please don't try to suggest to restart/reset the phone, and reinstall the app. Those are already behind me, and they did NOT help the problem. I'm not searching for temporary workarounds.
Please find a solution for this problem, because it is super annoying, and I can't use Skype, which will eventually result in me leaving Skype.
Solved!
Go to Solution. When it crashes on startup it goes like:
I tap the skype tile
The black screen with the "Loading....." appears (default WP loading screen). Usually this takes longer than it would normally take on any other app.
For a blink of an eye the Skype gui appears, but it instantly crashes.
If I can successfully start up the app, it just keeps lagging. I sart to write a message to a contact, and sometimes even the letters don't appear as I touch them, but they appear much later altogether. If I tap the send message button the whole gui freezes (seems like it freezes till the contact gets my message). Sometimes the lag get stronger, and sometimes it almost vanishes, but if I keep making inputs when the lag is strong, sometimes it crashes the whole app.
When I first installed the app, everything was fine. But after a while this behavior appeared. I reinstalled the app, and it solved the problem temporarily, but after some time the problem re-appeared. I don't know if it's relevant, but there was a time when I couldn't make myself appear online all the time (when the app was not started). In that time I didn't experience the lags and crashes. Anyways, what I'm sure about is that the lags get worse with time. Idk if it's because of use of the app (caching?), or the updates the phone makes to itself (conflict?).
I will try to reinstall Skype. Probably it will fix it for now. I hope the problem won't appear again. -
Skype crashes after security update 2015-003 march...
It crashes immediately after being launched. It happens since I updeted in march 20th and persists after updating to version 10.10.3 on avril 9nt.
Thanks for any advice.Hi,
When any application crashes in your Mac, this can be addressed pretty much the same way, for example this Apple article may be of interest:
https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18751?locale=en_US
No doubt your system is compatible, I'm using the same system version as you. Can you try to update Skype again, maybe you want to replace the app downloading it from the Skype site: Download Skype
Also you can try to update Skype manually from the Skype Menu Skype > Check for updates.

I open up skype after I updated it and it crashes after a couple of seconds, I don't know the version. DxDiag:
Try first to update your NVIDIA display driver: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/86504 You may also need to uninstall the Dxtory virtual video capture application, which is the only Video Capture Source installed on your computer. Such devices often conflict with Skype. Video Capture Sources:

Skype crashes and can not be closed
Hello! Recently I had Windows 7 installed on my laptop. I have Skype 6.22.106 and for several weeks everything was OK (though I did not like its new appearence).
Several days ago, in the middle of the conversation, the screen got like transparent.. A message appered that Skype need to close. But in fact it did not close. I could not close it either, nor did Ctrl+Alt+Del work. The only way was to restart the computer!!!! After restarting, sometimes it continued working normally, but most often the problem persisted. I had to add, that while 'not working" there was a slight connection - I could hear part of the words of the other side but they were like: "He-e-e......low. I-i-i......caaaan......".
So, today I decided to deinstall and reinstall. I used Add and Remove programs, but was prompted to UPDATE software with a file from Skype Software Sarl (Publisher), originating from "Hard drive on this computer" - c:\Windows\Installer\b006bc.msi.
May be I am paranoic, but as I am not good with computers, shall I accept this installation and (hopefully) continue with the deinstallation? Later I will try to get the older Skype. Or ask here again, if the problem persists. Thank you in advance!
Solved!
Go to Solution.Uninstaller needs access to this C:\Windows\Installer\b006bc.msi file, so this is OK.
