Skype desktop crashes on windows 8.1

Interesting, Skype for Desktop has been working for me for the past week since I did the Vista / Service Pack compatability thing. However, I just installed Chrome and I can go to a few simple website (like my own) but it crashes on most websites. What interested me in your reply was the problem happening after you installed a DTV dongle. I have been running Grabbee software (a TV screen capture program) on my machine. I thought Skype ran okay for a few days before I installed the Grabbee software but then my Skype problems occurred shortly after that. I also can't get the screen capture part of Microsoft Expressions Encoder 4 to run on the machine. Everything runs fine on a Win 7 laptop on the same network and with all the other same software.I'm suspecting that the problems are related to the video drivers. I have a good Nvida card on the Win 8.1 machine but just the shared graphics on the older Win 7 machine. There's clearly a major problem on the Win 8.1 laptop but I can find it.**bleep**

  • Skype Startup Crash on Windows 7

After login sound and two seconds of loading, the Skype windows cease to respond and Skype will crash when one clicks on any Skype window. I am using Skype version 7.6.0.103. The problem began on Skype 7.2, but I uninstalled that and installed Skype 7.6.0.103. The problem persisted and I reinstalled Skype 7.6.0.103 which still did not help. Copy-pasted from Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events -> General Tab:--------------------------------------------------------------------The program Skype.exe version 7.6.0.103 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Note: I have updated via Windows Update (the problem was not fixed). I have included an attachment to a zip file showing the result from the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (or so I hope, as this is my first post on this forum).  Further notes:- I do not have Internet Explorer on my computer- I uninstalled my Logitech Webcam, but Skype still crashes on startup- Deactivating the protections from my Avast AntiVirus does not help.- The crashing problem sometimes persist for days, then for an evening or so Skype starts working again, then the crashing returns.

    Thanks for the feedback!
I uninstalled Droidcam, and even restarted after that. Didn't do it.
Just for info: I installed Droidcam because I wanted to use my Samsung as webcam. And because the Skype for modern Windows doesn't recognize the cam, I downloaded and installed Skype for desktops. That one did recognize the smartphone as webcam and worked perfectly. For two days.
Everytime after Skype for desktops crashes, in the Windows Event Manager it generates the following message:

  • Skype Desktop Crash when starting webcam

I got a brandnew dekstop with Windows 8.1 and when starting Skype, it let me log in and then immediately crash. This only happens when the Webcam is active.   I have tried two different webcams, one from logitech and one from Creative and both resulted in the same issue.  When installing an older version of Skype (6.14) it works.
I have applied all Windows patches and updates over the last few days and check all the drivers to make sure there aren't newer drivers available and everything is updated now.   Any other ideas to get Skype to work?
I also ran dxdiag and attach the file if this will help.
    Regards

  • Skype Desktop crashes when it connects to the Inte...

Recently my Skype has updated to the newest version and since then it has crashed each time it connects to the internet. I have gone through other questions on this site and none that I have found have helped me.
As far as I am aware my Internet Explorer works fine, my drivers are up to date, my windows system is english and I have downloaded all optional and required system files. However, the only thing I have noticed is when I tried to visit https://apps.skype.com/home/ with IE I get the skype loading icon and the page never loads fully (But doesn't crash), not sure if that is relevent.
Skype for windows 8.1 works fine but the desktop version crashes. I have checked that I have allowed the program through my firewall and disabled and re-enabled .NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .Net 2.0 and 3.0) and run skype with it on and with it off and also ran programs to fix problems with the NET framework if it encountered any. Skype is still crashing when it connects to the internet.
I have also run Directx diagnostics tool and will attach the saved file.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you can provide

Note: this is not an issue particular to FaceRig, there are quite a few other programs using virtual cams that are affected by the 7.0 upgrade in the same manner. There is however a potential solution.
We have talked with some of our users affected by this issue (this does not affect everyone doing the 7.0 update, just some) and we trust that we have found the solution (at least until we've had time to investigate some more).
Seems the problem  to has to do with the default webcam settings (you just need to go though the Skype initial setup again).. The short version of the fix is:
    1. Go to Steam Client and do a "remove local application data" on FaceRig
    2. Go though the initial setup process on Skype ( now it won't crash) and/or visit the webcam setting menu and make sure everything is working and everything is updated.
    3. Re-install facerig (skip reinstalling the open codecs if you already have them installed)
    Now everything should be working.
I recommend reading the detailed step by step on the FaceRig Steam support forums:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/274920/discussions/ ( look for the Skype 7.0.0.102 pinned thread - i cqannot link directly that thread because there is a limit on the length of URL's here.)
PS: if you are the tinkering type, steps 1 and 3 can be simply substituted by un-registering and then re-registering the direct show filters ( all of them) for the FaceRig Virtual Cam ( .bat files are provided with facerig to do exactly just that) , but most folks do not want to mess with directly registering/unregistering DirectShow filters, so it is simpler to ask for an uninstall and a re-install.
Note that this kind of fix might also work for FFsplit.ax or other affected DirectShow filters too ( as this issue is not particular to FaceRig alone, more programs are affected by this update).

So, this issue has nothing to do with Skype , but is caused by defect webcam or device drivers.
You can try to rollback the Intel imaging signal processor 2400 drivers.

  • Skype crashing pc, windows 10

Every time I open Skype, it'll start doing the entire Not Responding, but then it completely crashes my entire pc. I can't ctrl-alt-del into task manager, can't kill it by closing it, nothing. It just makes everything crash, including the entire windows process. No other app makes my computer behave this way. I can replicate it 100% of the time just by opening Skype.

There is no record of Skype crashing and being that you have an AMD R series card the compatibility issue is with the video drivers.   Since you upgraded to Windows 10 your options for alternate drivers are limited.  The best option may end up being to downgrade to an earlier release of the Skype Desktop application. You can try the solutions listed here: http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Skype-BSODs-very-often/m-p/4066488/highlight/true#M358889 You can also try the Skype Translator Modern app as an alternative: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/apps/skype-translator-preview/9wzdncrdtbw7

Try first to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

    Hi,
I would like to know the certain name of the application you updated.
It seems that the updating of the application make the explorer.exe crash or no responding.
I suggest you press ctrl+alt+del, and click Task manager.
Then end the process explorer.exe, and click File -> Run New task -> type in explorer.exe.
    See what's going on.

The connection was established from Windows 8.1. Any Solutions available?

What Remote Desktop options have you chosen on the client (i.e., system where you're making the connection from) when making the connection?  Have you tried varying them?
For what it's worth, I seem to be able to make a remote desktop connection to my Win 10 TP 9879 test system just fine.  In my case I happen to be making the connection at the same screen size (1920 x 1200 pixels) as my local console uses.
Also, how are you breaking the connection?  Are you selecting "Disconnect" on the remote system, or are you just closing down the Remote Desktop application?  That could make a difference.

  • Skype for Windows Desktop should use Windows Desktop Scaling

Skype for Windows Desktop should use Windows Desktop Scaling.  Right now, on Windows 8.1 with high DPI displays, Skype scales very badly.  It is either very blurry with scaling turned on or is too small to see when scaling turned off.  This negatively affects not just SMS and IM but also webcams. Since Skype is a Microsoft product it should follow the Microsoft guidelines for desktop scaling, even if it is not a Windows 8.1 specific application.  There are a multitude of other applications, like Firefox and Internet Explorer, that work perfectly with desktop scaling.  Skype should do this, too.

I see this thread is over a year old and still no fix for this issue. Just 'upgraded' from old Vista laptop to new hi res Asus N551 with Windows 8.1 and Skype Desktop looks crap! Blurry fonts and pictures, webcam image terrible. In short a disgrace. I hate the kiddies version on Windows 'Metro' style app by the way. So, looked up support and only solution suggested was to retore my custom desktop scaling option back to 100%. Obviously I am not doing that otherwise I would be unable to read the resultant microscopic text in Windows 8.1. So if anyone does have another, workable, solution I be pleased to hear it.After over a year though the Skype team really should make scaling for Skpe Deskto a No. 1 priority.

Sounds like your data has been corrupted, possibly your calendar,
There is a few things to try.
    1. If your default calendar view is the month, I would do this step first. Change your date on your computer to two months in the future or past, then try to relaunch palm desktop. Let me know if it launches and I will tell you how to fix that.
    2. If your default calendar view is not the month, the do this step. Locate your user folder it is in my documents/palm os desktop/variation of hotsync id
Once you find the hotsync id folder. Grab that and move it to your desktop so it is no longer in the palm os desktop folder. Then try to relaunch palm desktop
Let me know if either one of these steps let you open palm desktop then we will go into fixing them.

With the setup running with the gray box, does anything happen when you use a real/virtual keyboard and press enter?  I just upgraded my 10 inch tablet running Windows 8.1 with Bing to Windows 10 Home and I did not run into any issues.
