Compare the Services in the Sharing Pref Panes of the users, Ports 80 & 443 at least are needed for Skype.
Turning on Personal Web Sharing for those Users should open those ports. -

It's real easy to create a new one and, in fact, it's too easy. I say that because multiple IDs are a PIA. The problem is that anything obtained from the iTunes Store is PERMANENTLY associated with the ID that was used to obtain the item(s). iTunes items can not be transferred from one ID to another and IDs can not be merged.
The problem arises when you want to update an app. If you're doing it from iTunes on your computer, you must log out and back in to get to the correct ID. Then you update and log out/in again to get back to where you started. It's slightly easier if you update from the iPad/iPod device as there is no need to log out/in BUT you still need the correct password for the appropriate ID. Of course, with a disabled ID, the problem is much worse!
A replacement Apple ID makes sense ONLY if you wish to start out absolutely brand new with zero iTunes Store purchases.
If you're really butting your head aginst a wall and you're reasonably close to an Apple Store, my suggestion is that you make an appointment with the resident "Genius" and get his/her help.
One last thought... If your brother actually got a human on the phone to dispute the charges, go there and explain the problem. Of course, if Apple did not accept his explanation of what occurred, that could be the whole issue. Apple believes that money is owed on the account! -
Automatic downloads only works with one Mac user account, can I get help?
I have three user accounts on my iMac, and I set up iTunes Automatic downloading on my iTunes account on my iMac user account. Then I went to set up my brothers iTunes automatic download on his iMac user account but it said the computer was already in use, and gave me options like transfer or cancel. Just to clarify this was an attempt with one iMac two user accounts and two separate iTunes accounts.
It appears we are all having the same issue, and for themost part talking about the same thing, but to reiterate:
1) One (1) computer, to help distinguish the devices letscall it an iMac
2) Two (2) or more distinct User ID’s on said iMac with fullAdmin permissions
3) Each distinct User ID on the iMac has a distinct Apple IDwith an associated iTunes and iCloud account
4) For every User ID / Apple ID there is a separate personwith their own iDevice
5) None of the iTunes accounts, iDevices or Apple ID’s arecross sync’d
5) (a) Forexample, Person 1 does not share apps, etc. with Person 2’s iTunes account. Weare assuming everyone distinct Apple ID / iDevice buys its own App’s, musicetc.
6) Only one (1) of the iMac User ID’s and that User ID’sassociated iTunes and iCloud account can have auto-download and iCloud servicesactivated at any one time.
6) (a) Just to be redundantly clear,that means that every other User ID / iTunes – iCloud ID/ iDevice CANNOTauto-download or sync to iCloud
Somewhat reformed PC guy here (wife is a life long Macuser), but all I can say is are you (*&^%$%^&* kidding me?
If I wanted these problems, and didn’t care about aestheticsor battery life, I would have stuck with Win-crap / Android for 50% or less ofthe cost.
Besides my preference for the Win-Devil UI (I know, I know…)I cannot believe after spending more than $4,500 on iFleecing this summer I amstill having issues like this (Mac Air, iMac, iPhone 4- two and the buy-out oftwo cell contracts).
Granted, when I plug something in, it works… the way Stevethinks I should want it to function.
In the hopes of avoiding some iFlogging by my fellow usershere, I concede the superiority, in every conceivable way, of all of thehardware and even like the MS Office suite in Mac better (at least not less). Ihave no intention of going back to the Win-Devil (don’t even run an emulator oneither computer), but this is a Windows-like screw-up. -
Its not remembering my sign in infor for Hotmail. My facebook account is remembered and so are other accounts...but not Hotmail. On all of my computers at home and work. Started happening about 1 week or so ago.
I have the same problem, but with a gmail account. Others in my family who have gmail accounts can use facetime on their itouches without trouble. I don't this this is related to the email address being at hotmail. I talked to a "genius" at the Apple Store and he said he was having the same problem (name or password is incorrect). He thinks it's a problem with Apple's servers. Some email addresses get messed up for some reason, and then you can't use them for facetime. What worked for him and for me was just to create a new appleid with a new email address. Of course that is a terrible solution, though, because folks who know your typical email address will try to facetime you there and it won't work.
Would love to hear a comment from Apple on this one. How can one get a message through to them? -
Works on one Vista User Account But not another
My itunes 8 won't connect to the itunes store on my main vista account.
But on the same computer, new account made... it works!!
What's Up? I dunno.. am puzzled by this, and am not a computer idiot by any means.nope. am on an administrator account. made a seperate "iTunes" administrator account and itunes works fine there.
on this account.. it says it cannot connect to the network. Diagnostic test on itunes says all connections are good tho.?!?!? Have tried turning off the firewall etc.
think i need to do a fresh install, but itunes seems to have some sort of "memory" even if i uninstall all of what i can see! -

FCE 1.0.1 DOES WORK ON LATEST MACS !
Over the past few months various people have claimed that early versions of FCE won't work with the latest versions of QT, Leopard, Intel processors etc.
I have the latest iMac 2.8GHz and just out of idle curiosity I installed FCE 1.0.1.
You can't get much earlier than that ! Or much later than my iMac !
It loaded in seconds, launched rapidly and appears to work perfectly.
No error messages or any other tantrums !No I hadn't tried capturing.
So I have just done a quick test. I captured nearly seventeen minutes before I hit a timecode-break, so I think it is safe to assume it would have captured the whole tape.
I sliced the footage up a bit, added a few transitions and effects, and everything seemed perfectly normal - except for the lack of RT playback which 1.0.1 never had of course.
My QT is 7.4.1 -

I have 2 computers with Firefox installed on each one. I watch instant movies from Netflix on my laptop but am unable to do so on the iMac. To watch movies instantly Netflix asks to have software installed. I have done that. The netflix program on my iMac will not go past the screen saying to restart the browser. I have done this several times.

Why does a program run in one account but not another?
I am trying to run Prism (from graphpad) on my macbook pro. The application is hosted on a server accessed using an adress beginning with smb:// . I have copied the application shortcut to the dock and am able to run it absolutely fine on one user account. In my other user account, the program starts and goes through an initialization screen, then freezes (colourwheel when the mouse is over the menu bar). This application has run fine for the last 18 months, and has only now developed a problem. I have spoken with our institute's IT professionals, and they have suggested some things, but none have worked. My network connection is stable and, as far as I can, I have repaired all permissions.
Any ideas? I really, really don't want to have to flip between accounts to use this somewhat essential graphing program!

Mail server working sending emails between user accounts but not to other (outside) email accounts?

I am new to Mac OS X Server Mail and I am trying to set up. I have successfully started the mail services and created 2 user accounts. Those accounts can email each other back and forth, no problem; however, they cannot send/receive to other email addresses. Anyone know why this would happen?
