Skype doesn't detect webcam on new windows 8 lapto...

I have a new laptop pre-shipped with windows 8. I installed skype via the skype download page, and after the install I see that it does not detect my webcam.
I go to Tools->Options and skype doesn't detect that any webcam exists on the system.
I've changed the windows 8 webcam privacy settings to allow skype to use my webcam, though I'm not clear if this affects the normal old desktop skype or that new metro skype (I'm not even quite clear if those are two separate applications, that whole metro thing is still just weird and unuseable to me, not sure why I'd ever want skype to take over the whole desktop as it does if you go into it from the metro interface).
There are tons of results for webcams not woring in skype, but after going through many of them they don't seem to cover this case of "skype just doesn't detect the webcam in windows 8".

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start  and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.

  • Skype doesn't detect webcam windows 8

    Hello,
    I recently bought an Asus S200-CT182H working with windows 8.
    Skype was already installed on windows 8. I just had to log in.
    I have no problems to receive the video from my contacts when I call them, but impossible to put my webcam.
    When I go on "Camera" on windows 8, it works perfectly.
    I also have to mention that when I try to put the webcam on skype, no other application is using the webcam.
    Please I am waiting for a solution, this is very annoying.
    Thanks in advance,
    Clara.

    Which version of Skype do you use?
    Run Skype >> WinKey + C >> Settings >> About.
    Please update to Version 1.8.0.111
    Press WinKey + R to open the Run window
    WinKey (the button is located between the left Ctrl and Alt with the Windows logo)
    type: ms-windows-store: and press Enter
    Press WinKey + C >> Settings >> App Updates >> Click Check for Updates.
    Install / Update  Skype.

  • Links to files doesn't open in a new window

    I've noticed that links (that refers to a specific file) created in Adobe Indesign doesn't open in a new window like the links that refers to a website when I autoconverts it in Acrobat Pro X.
    Example:
    LINK1: http://www.acrobat.com/testfile.pdf <--- does not open in a new window when clicked
    LINK2: http://www.acrobat.com/testfolder <--- opens in a new window when clicked
    Are there any way to fix this?
    Will the same problem occur if I create the links in Acrobat instead?
    I'm asking this because I don't want the form to disappear when the links are clicked.
    Best,
    Mikey

    Firefox should divert the new window to a new tab when you check this box in Google's Search Settings:
    "Open search results in a new browser window"
    I can't think of any reason for Firefox to divert a new window back into ''the same tab''.
    In case one of your add-ons is the culprit, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode?
    First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, restart Firefox using Help>Restart with Add-ons Disabled. Don't check any of the boxes in the [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] dialog, just Continue in Safe Mode.
    Does it make any difference?

  • How can I change this script so it doesn't load into a new window?

    I have this script on an invisible button on a banner ad, but the client doesn't want the linked page to open in a new window, but rather load over the page in same window. How can I change the script to accomplish this, thanks!
    link_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseDownHandler);
    function mouseDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {

  • URL iView doesn't open link in new window

    Hi All,
    I'm have an URL iView that I want to display in the portal content area but whenever the user clicks on a hyperlink on that iView launch a new window for the link.
    I've tried using the 'Open iView links in new window' without any success. Is this supposed to work or this property is for another purpose...? Can someone point me to a solution.
    Thanks

    Hi Detlev,
    I checked what you said. I've already looked at that page but didn't saw that important disclaimer. My problem was that I didn't had a captured area-URL iView but a full page-URL iView as it says:
    +These properties are relevant in the following instances only:
    §         The iView content is displayed in its source format. The rendering type must be defined as Keep Source Formatting. See Defining the Look and Feel of the iView Content.
    §         The iView content displays a captured area, and not the entire Web page. See Selecting the Capture Area.+
    I only had to change the 'Open iView links in new window' to Yes after capturing a part of my page and it started working.

  • Camera app not working with logitech webcam with new windows 8.1 update

    My Logitech camera app was working fine before win 8.1 update.
    ALL drivers are updated.
    Camera works fine when I run Logitech program/software, just won't work with camera app included win windows 8.
    I just get a dark screen.
    I searched forums.  This appears to be a common problem.  Microsoft Techs just state uninstall camera app and reinstall.  But, this is an app that won't let me reinstall.  Plus, I search Microsoft Store and can't find the camera app.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks

    I'm having more or less the same issue, but it extends beyond just the app. I'm replying here because this is the topic I was referred to by one of your support members on twitter and I'm trying to help keep things organized so that hopefully one day Microsoft
    can solve the issue.
    I have the Logitech Webcam HD C 525 which worked perfectly fine on my Windows Vista Home Premium machine. I recently built myself a computer and purchased Windows 8.1 complete (I heard that you could chose the OS language and as I'm living overseas I was really
    happy to finally be able to use Windows in English).
    I'm using Windows 8.1 64 bit and got around to installing skype on Christmas eve so I could video chat with my family back home. However, I ran into an annoying issue when trying to use the webcam. I installed the latest drivers and applications clean and straight
    directly from Logitech, plugged in the webcam and it was not detected.
    Following the troubleshooting info from Logitech, I then switched my camera from a USB 3.0 port to a 2.0 one, this shouldn't matter, but I tried it anyway. It changed nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times with no change.
    After a bit of reaching out on twitter I had a friend suggest using ONLY the Microsoft drivers for my device. I COMPLETELY removed and deleted the device and drivers from my machine and then installed them using the info found here in the troubleshooting section:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/camera-app-faq.
    I plugged my camera back into the 2.0 port and my camera flicked on for 2 seconds (preview included) then shut off again and told me it wasn't detectable. I opened Skype and it seemed ok. When it came time to actually Skype with my family skype could no longer
    detect my webcam. It flicked on and off briefly and told me it wasn't detectable.
    The current state of my webcam is that it is buggy and unreliable. Opening skype or the logitech app or ANY app that uses my camera yields the same result: an endless loop of my camera flickering on and off, and messages of "not detected" between
    images from my camera. The camera still works on my old computer normally, thus it is not an issue with the camera itself.
    I have read many people having my same issue with various webcams (not just Logitech because I briefly considered buying a Microsoft one) and the one thing in common was it was all on Windows 8.1
    As posted in a few posts above I downloaded and ran Process Monitor while I opened skype and my camera sat through the endless detect/non-detected issue it has currently. I hope I have the log information saved correctly (if not I can re-do it, it is not difficult
    to reproduce as it happens all the time). I could not figure out how to copy/pase the information in the log file, so here is a link to my log file:

  • Link doesn't get open in new window/tab

    Hi I have a expression on a text box, which shows a link. What i want is, when I click on the link, it should open in new tab. I have the expression below, it opens the link in the same tab, but not in a separate tab.
    =IIf(Fields!myField.Value="Online","<a href=""http://www.google.com"" target=""_blank"">" & "[Click here to do]" & "</a>","")
    Can anybody help please? Thanks.

    Hi ca4fil,
    According to your description, you want to click the URL then open the page in a new tab.
    As we tested in our environment, when clicking the URL in a report, the target="_blank” included within the HTML tag is not supported to open a new tab. In your scenario, since you want to open the URL in a new tab, you could set the “Go to URL” option
    with the expression like below:
    =IIF(Fields!myField.Value="Online","javascript:void(window.open('http://www.google.com','_blank'))","")
    Besides, you should make sure you have selected the "Always open pop-ups in a new tab" option in Internet Options.
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • HT1451 My 2004 iPod doesn't work with my new Windows 8 computer. If I get a new iPod nano, will I be able to sync my content from my old iPod?

    If I replace my 2005-era iPod with a new nano, will I be able to sync my existing content? Currently my Windows 8 will not allow me to access my music, etc., although I can see it. Took forever to event get iTunes to recognize my device--lots of removing of Apple software, downloading again, etc.

    You can sync from your computer to your ipod.

  • MediaView doesn't display video; opens new window instead

    Hello,
    I'm having some trouble working with the MediaView/MediaPlayer classes.
    Using Netbeans' composer, I've configured correctly (I think) a MediaView component so that it should load the MediaPlayer, which loads a local Media file. However, when executed, the MediaView area just remains blank, while a new "ActiveMovie" window opens, rendering the video.
    I've done some searching over here and on google but I really haven't found any solution. I know the ActiveMovie window is probably just DirectShow opening the video; why, though, does this happen, if I explicitly designed the application so that the MediaView component alone displayed the video?
    It's as if, by instanciating a Media component, the code was issuing a Open File system call and Windows - not JVM - was doing the rest.
    Any help is very welcome.
    Thanks,
    Leo

    I don't know how to fix it, assuming that is even possible without rewriting DirectShow or the JavaFX platform, but I can tell you about my own experiences with this issue.
    I was trying to figure out a way to run WebM video files in JavaFX and installed a Direct Show filter from Xiph to enable it. It sort of worked, except that it caused the same issue you just described. I tried playing other video formats handled by Direct Show, and they ran normally, so I'm assuming that it is an issue specific to some of the filters.Thank you for your reply, I think now I've finally understood what the problem is!
    Indeed, I've ran into some cases where one tried to use recent HD Youtube videos (VP8-encoded, which is what WebM uses: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebM#Services) and have also failed.
    Apparently, JavaFX only really supports VP6 videos. Probably that's the reason the SimpleMediaPlayer sample (http://javafx.com/samples/SimpleVideoPlayer/) uses a VP6 video, and not, say, an WMV or whatever other encode.
    The main problem is the strange deceitfulness of all documentation related to video playback on JavaFX: while most articles and docs state rather ambiguously that "any video supported by the system will run on the JavaFX platform", only one document explicitly states that that's not quite the case:
    Video Codecs
    Cross-Platform: On2 VP6
    Windows XP and Vista: All the codecs supported by Windows Media Player
    Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5: All the codecs supported by Mac through Core Video
    Ubuntu 8.04 and OpenSolaris 2009.06: All the codecs supported by GStreamer.http://download.oracle.com/javafx/1.2/tutorials/media/format.html#audio
    Well, that clears things up! Natively, JavaFX only really supports On2 VP6 encoding, whilst any other encoding will depend solely on the operating system and 3rd party software installed. So that's the reason why, when trying to open any other video which isn't VP6-encoded, JavaFX calls the 3rd party codec, which opens an ActiveMovie DirectShow window, failing to display the player in the appropriate MediaView container. Please do correct me if I'm wrong; I've only been playing with JavaFX for a day or so!
    The deceitfulness is that JavaFX is fanfared as a "ultimate, play-all media API", which lead me to thinking that it would easily handle the most popular video encoders. This assumption is enforced if we remember that the old Java Media Framework (JMF) API did indeed suport MPEG-1.
    Once again, thanks!

  • No KeyDown detected on a new Window presented with ShowDialog (a mouse click is required before working)

    Hello,
    I shorter the code.
    In MainWindow I have a button to open a SecondWindow
    private void ButtonNextWindow_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
                WindowState = WindowState.Minimized;
                var secondWindow = new SecondWindow();
                secondWindow.ShowDialog();
                WindowState = WindowState.Normal;
    In the second window class I declared a KeyDown event called onKeyDown
    private void onKeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e)
                MessageBox.Show("Key Pressed");
    well... it works only if I first click in the Second Window with the mouse, wherever I want.
    I would avoid this click; seems something related with the Keyboard focus.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vincenzo

    Set second window to focus after you set first window state to normal
    private void ButtonNextWindow_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
                WindowState = WindowState.Minimized;
                var secondWindow = new SecondWindow();
                secondWindow.ShowDialog();
                WindowState = WindowState.Normal;
    secondWindow.Focus();

  • Why doesn't the option "open new windows in a new tab instead" work in the newest version of Firefox when it worked fine in previous versions?

    In previous versions when using Google search and clicking on a link it would open in a new tab. Now it opens on top of the Google search preventing a comparison of two links by switching from one tab to another.

    Hello,
    I found this useful extension:

    not sure if it solves your issue

  • Skype doesn't show notification for new contacts

    Hi all,
    It started a few months ago. Now i have 6.22.64.106 version and the problem is still there. I set options as following:
    anyone can call me
    only contacts can chat with me
    notify when someone asks for my details
    Yet when someone is trying to add me as a contact nothing happens. I have no win notification or a message in a contact list about 'pending contacts' (as i used to). I tried to google this problem and didn't find any solution.
    When i add those people back (by searching them) they just appear in my contact list. This is quite annoying as people have to contact me via email/lync/etc.
    Am i missing some setting? Thanks for your help

    Even on skype web-site it says that i should receive those notifications.
