Skype for business on Azure VM
Hi, I'm trying to install the Skype For Business Edge on MIcrosoft Azure VM, but I'm having a problem to connect using the 5061 port, What could I do to solve this problem? Have anyone already installed the Edge on Azure VM with success?
ThanksDid you setup Azure Endpoints for port 5061 (and TCP 443/444, UDP 3478 as the defaults)?

Skype for Business Client update
Hi,
First of all let me get this out of the way "Microsoft Office 365 support sucks".
now the simple question:
If office proplus is installed via portal (through on-click run), how does it get the update for skype for business?
I have over 1000 users and its not feasible to run the updates via an office application on each machine.
(Note: getting update does not mean UI change. it simply means the client is updated and ready to accept the UI once it is allowed via csclientpolicy in a update Lync server environment).
(Note 2: the useless O365 support says it will come through windows updates; I have done multiple tests on different test machines and that is not correct. Another technet says office proplus updates are done through scheduled tasks. Even if the office automatic
update task runs, the client does not get updated with new Skype for Business.)Hi Atif7865,

Lync 2013 / Skype for Business sharing photos with federated contacts
In the new SfB client I can see photos of federated contacts. I'm on Office 365 and this only happens for Federated contacts also hosted on Office 365 where we have an Exchange organisation relationship. I'm not sure if this
is because of the new client, updated server software in Office 365 or something I just missed before.
If I look into the client debug files I can see that the photo URL for Office 365 includes the wssecurity (federated authentication) but for onprem system it's missing.
I have customers with Lync onprem asking for sharing the high res photos with external organisations. The classic URL-sharing is not a viable solution for several reasons. So, based on these findings:
Is the wssecurity (Web Service Security) in the EWS path something that will come to SfB server for onpremises making ot possible to enable photo sharing between organisations having federated identity configured in Exchange?
Lync Onprem (with highres photos configured)
<photo type="exchange">

<ewsUrl>https://mail.example.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx</ewsUrl>
<primarySMTP>[email protected]</primarySMTP>
</uri>
<hash>"89E39E74"</hash>

Lync Online
<photo type="exchange">

<primarySMTP>[email protected]</primarySMTP>
</uri>
<hash>"634A0794"</hash>
</photoHi,
The Skype For Business Server update will come soon, I couldn't find any information about if the WSSecurity would be added to the EWS path for sfb. You can check when the update for Skype For Business comes. Thank you for your understanding.

Install Skype for Business with Business Essencial...
Hi,
I was wondering if I Bought the Business Essencial account of Office365 will I be able to install in my PC Skype for BUiness... I have this question since this "plan" in all online, I was wondering how Skype for Buiness would funciton. We are just getting settled with our Office 365 Business Premium accounts and are looking at the Skype for Business app. It looks great for chat and conferencing except for the fact that you can't have meeting attendees dial in by phone. We definitely need this feature!
I've read that you can do something with a Skype/Lync server on-prem or can pay a 3rd party to add MS-certified conferencing but we don't want the extra hassle or expense, especially since we have an in-house PBX that is currently handing our conference bridge needs very well (even with Gotomeeting - our current meeting software).
Am I missing something or are these our only options? How have people switched to Skype for Business/Lync for all their conferencing needs?

Any way to remove the prompt after Skype for Business patch?
So we rolled out the latest patches to our test machines and everyone got the new Skype for Business upgrade. When each person logged in they were greeted with a window that said something like:
"Your administrator is set for you to use the Lync User Interface."
We then had to click the Restart Now button which caused Lync to close and open up again and it looked like Lync instead of like Skype.
Is there any way to not have that pop up open and to just have everyone get the old Lync interface as if nothing happened? GPO, Registry, etc?
We want to minimize any confusion people are sure to have the first time they use it.
Thanks! You can enable the SkypeUI (Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -EnableSkypeUI $true) with the backend still being Lync Server 2013 to get the new client look and feeling.
The Skype for Business 2015 RTM Server bits should be out in May, but the current new functionality can be taken from:

Can I just enable it for individual users for testing? I tried doing a get-csclientpolicy and replacing -identity global with -identity <user ID> but it said it didn't exist since it seems it's looking for policies. Not sure if there's
some other way to do that.
Do I need to setup a new policy and just add certain people to it or is there any other way to do that for specific users?
Thanks! -
Lync 2013 - Skype for business User Interface
Hello,
We are using Lync 2013 with Lync 2013 server with CU from August 2014 (so not ready for Skype for Business).
I have installed latest Desktop Updates for Windows and Office, and now everytime we log on we get the Skype for Business UI with the question to restart the client with the Lync UI.
I have followed the recommendation in this article:
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn954919.aspx
I have set this:
In the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Lync] key, create a new
Binary value.
The Value name must be EnableSkypeUI, and the
Value data must be set to 00 00 00 00.
But this settings seems to be completely ignored... doesn't do anything.
We can't set the policy on the server, as the server is not yet up-to-date and doesn't know about a Skype UI policy.
Can somebody please tell me how I can start the updated Lync / Skype for Business client with the Lync UI as a default (without disturbing the user with the restart-the-client pop-up)?
Thanks a lot!Hi,
As mentioned the Lync Server is not up-to-date, based on my knowledge this is why the issue occurs.
Please refer to this article below:
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn954919.aspx
You can configure the client experience only if you are running Lync Server 2013 with the December 2014 Cumulative Update (5.0.8308.857) or later installed. The latest one is:
KB 3036869 February 2015 Cumulative Update 5.0.8308.871 for Lync Server 2013 Core Management Server.
You can specify the client experience the users in your organization will see by using the
Set-CSClientPolicy cmdlet with the EnableSkypeUI parameter:
Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -EnableSkypeUI $true

Need Help with Skype for Business!
I purchased the Skype for business for an entire year. Now, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to log in. Do I have to link it to original skype? I am new to this and have no knowledge of the formats of Skype or it for business.
Subject/title expanded to reflect post content a little more accurately.Hi, and no need to feel stupid!
Welcome to this on-line community.
A few questions for you to clarify the Skype product you are working with, so we can send you in the right direction in an effort to resolve the problem:
Are you referring to either Skype Manager, or Skype Connect? Do you recall what "business" product you have?
Or, what are you trying to sign in to? A Skype account via the Skype website, or the software itself?
This FAQ article should help unravel the mysteries of the differences between a personal Skype account and a Skype For Business (formerly known as Lync) configuration: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34551/what-s-the-difference-between-skype-and-skype-for-business
Thanks in advance for providing the additional details.

Elaine

Hi all,
We are testing out the new Skype for Business technical preview client
with Lync 2013 and although we're not really users of Persistent Chat, I wanted to install this feature too so I added a server pool just to check things out.
I can post and even search the history (which shows results), but apart from seeing my immediate post, when I close the room a re-enter I see nothing. I get a notifications that there are new posts, but clicking "Read" button also does nothing.
We're off for Easter and I wont have access to another Lync 2013 client until we return, so I'm not sure if there is just something odd with my installation.
I would be interesting to see if other are having this issue.
Cheers

Thanks Anthony. I was about to dig into troubleshooting a bit more based on Holger's response.

Stefan HHi Stefan,
High-resolution user photos are displayed in Lync 2013 meetings when an active speaker does not have video enabled. Also, moving the mouse over thumbnail photo in the gallery will display the
high-resolution photo.
Looks like the configurations are correct. Can you reproduce this issue by using Lync 2013 client ?

Eric

What happens when Skype for business evaluation expires?
I am testing Skype for business within my company before actually rolling out teh Skype for Business for all. I am using Skype for business evaluation version to test the features and/or and impact it would have on Lync 2013 existing users. I need to know
what happens when the skype for business evaluation patch expires on 1st May 2015, what will the users see? will it switch back to Lync 2013 on its own or do I need to uninstal the package to do so?

[email protected]Hi Ketan Tank,
Agree with Anthony, you can get the updates (KB2889923 & KB2889853) through Windows Update.
The Skype for Business Client will already be activated as it is an update to an existing licensed product.

Eric

We presently have an Office 2007 environment. We plan to deploy Skype for Business. What is the best deployment path? Install Lync 2013 and upgrade to Skype for Business or install Skype for business directly. Where can I find the Install server guides?
Deploy Skype for Business directly if you don't already have Lync 2013.
Deployment guides are here:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398616.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 and continuing to be developed. The server software will drop in early May.
