Skype for Desktop is unusable on Tablet devices

Why am I being forced to use the desktop client when it functions terribly on tablets? I enjoyed being able to use a full-screen, resizeable/multitasking client, and now I can't even see what I'm typing with the on-screen keyboard, along with being subjected to the awful banner ads that even further shrink visibility.  For the love of god, either bring back Skype for Modern Windows, or give us the option to change the interface in the Desktop app to look like it used to. Given that I literally cannot even use the client right now, no thanks to the limited ability for Skype to shrink its window past a certain size being what prevents me from seeing what I'm even typing, I will be seeking an alternative IM client unless this is resolved.

Go to the store and look for Skype Translator, it is basically the "modern" app with the translation bits added. It's not perfect but compared to the desktop version on a tablet its wonderful. And like the rest of us, join the queue for a proper explanation from someone at Skype or MS.

  • Installation Problem - Skype for Desktop on Dell Venue Pro 8

I have a new Dell Venue Pro 8.  It had the modern Skype app installed out of the factory, but clicking on it made me download the Skype for desktop app.  It downloads fine (in looking through the forums, I saw that others had problems with this, but it was fine for me).  The problem comes when it's installing.  Skype brings up the "Installing Skype" window.  The problem is that it takes up the whole screen.  I can do what I need to with the "Select your language" drop-down menu, but there is nothing that lets me go to the next screen.  I see no "Next" or "OK" or anything like that to use to continue the installation process.  I cannot resize the window.  Maximize and minimize are the only options.  "Move" and "resize" are grayed out. Thank you for any ideas!

I have tried to uninstall / reinstall Skype and I have cleared the profile completely from C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Skype\ When there is a voicemail message, and I click play, it will look like it's downloading and then go back to the play icon almost immediately. Help!

  • Skype for Desktop on WIndows 8.1

I have a computer running Windows 8.1.  I am having the following issues with Skype.
When using the Windows 8.1 App for Skype, I cannot share a desktop which is needed for my business.
    2. When using the Skype for Windows Desktop, I can share a desktop, however both the App and the Desktop 6.13 rings on incoming calls, also to close either I have to go to the Task Manager and end the application that way.  Close on Desktop does not work.  Even if I log out then try to close.
    What are my options..

Screen sharing is still not available on the "modern" Skype app for Windows 8. This feature is only available with Skype for Windows desktop.

  • Skype for Desktop Not Launching on Surface 3

I have a new Microsoft Surface 3 and when I tried to use the Skype app for the first time today, I got the following message. Time to get a new Skype app We've replaced the app with an improved Skype experience.  See what you can do with the new app.  Download now. On 7 July 2015, we will be turning off Skype for Modern Windows......please download Skype for Windows Desktop. After I have followed the instructions and removed the old app and downloaded and installed the new program (7.6.80.105) and pinned it to the Start sceen, when I launch it, having entered my log-in credentials, I am taking to a "Skype" window, but it only allows me to manage my Microsoft account.  This screen starts with: Hello!  Here's where you manage your account. There are no options anywhere on this screen to launch the actual Skype program. Please advise that has happened, as - at the moment - I have a new Surface 3 that cannot run Skype. Thank you.

    Hi,
Can you share a screenshot of what your are seeing when you launch the Skype app?
You might want to try clicking the "Sign in with a different account" link at the bottom of that window and see if that helps to take you back to the "Sign in to Skype with my Microsoft account" option.

  • Skype for business unable to pick what device calls are trasfered to

Hi all Ever since the change from linc to SFB I no longer have any control over what device calls get transfered too. As an example I take an outside call caller needs to be transferred to my co-worker I try and transfer to my co-workers skype however it will always transfer to his/her mobile phone. This happens regardless of the settings my co-workers settings in skype. This is extremely frustrating as i have a few unhappy engineers giving me dirty looks when the calls go sometimes randomly to whatever device Skype sends a call too.  Please note I do not have access to Skype manager.

In Skype that can occur if the person is not online (or appears offline), so it forwards to their offline contact (phone number).   Since you have Skype for Business you should be contacting your admin or possibly finding a solution in the Office Community forums.  If you are the admin and are unable to find a solution, you should be putting in a request with Microsoft Office support.  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=270873

  • Skype for desktop is a JOKE.

Alright. I thought I'd never be posting here, but considering how ridicilous skype's service has gotten in the last few years (I'd say, since Microsoft bought it), I can stay silent no more.
First of all I really have to make a reality check: Are people actually HAPPY with what you've done to Skype, Microsoft? Do people actually like this unintuitive new bloated shiny joke of an update that you've given it in 7.0?
If so, then I'm probably posting this in vain.
But if not, I'd really like to see what the percentage of people is that ARE NOT happy with your product.
Second, I've been using skype since 2005 I think, back then it was 3 something, I last remember using 3.8, and then 4.0. 4.0 was PERFECT. There was literally NOTHING wrong with it (in my opinion at least), and almost everything added later was completely unneccessary and just made it worse. I realize that this was even before Microsoft had bought Skype, so I can't blame it all on them, but the worst changes DEFINITELY happened after Skype was well in Microsoft's hands.
I don't understand this thing you're trying to do where you want to have basically the same program on all devices. My Skype feels like a smartphone now. I don't have a touch screen on my PC, I use a mouse and a keyboard, and Skype was PERFECT for that before you started messing with it. But alright, this is very subjective and very opinion wise, and I am aware of that.
But that brings me to my next point. Why did you have to retire the old versions? Why not let people use WHICHEVER version they feel the most comfortable with? Why do you have the need to FORCE your software on people? You defined it as "paving the way for the new Skype". What I saw was "okay, we have our new product which isn't good, so to make people use it, we have to make the old versions, which were better and that people prefer, obsolete." I've been using 4.2 for years before it simply became impossible to log in with it anymore. There was no issue, it worked perfectly for me, and now I have to download this new...thing you've put out, because it won't even sign me in with anything earlier than 6.22, and even 6.22 is so laggy now that it's impossible to use. I'm very unhappy with what you did here. Skype was literally the best chat program out there for years, there was nothing wrong with it, and not only did you change it without any real need to do so with your "improvements", now you're actually forcing us to use your new disfunctional version that looks like I'm on my smartphone instead of on my desktop, instead of using the old, good versions. Trillian was a temporary safe haven for me when you were still giving out your API, but then you stopped doing even that to make sure that the 0.001% of Skype's users that were on Trillian HAD to switch to Skype, which is FREE, I don't GET what you get from doing that. Don't even get me started on the fact that your download server has been down for weeks, and that to get the new version of skype I have to visit a freaking file sharing site (AND YOU WON'T EVEN LET ME USE THE WORD THAT DESCRIBES IT?!?!?! LOL)
For the love of God, please fix Skype. Or at least let us use the old versions. This is ridicilous.

I'll admit that was a bit TLDR (most of it though, seen a lot of them lately).
First of all I want you to go to https://insider.windows.com and download and install Windows 10 technical preview (now we solved the why does Skype have a new UI). Because thats why, not an idea the Skype team got at 4 PM Sunday.
Seconly, no, not a single one, ever developer does support it's product infilitly. You might love Skype 3.8 or 4,0, but guess what, thay have severe securety issues, thats why version 5 and so fort came to be, that and technical advancement. Would you still like to use v 4.0 if I told you I could hijack your account and use all your credits (an exampe not real)?
I've been in the industry for decades, I remember when Adobe (that only supports the current version might I add), changed UI, yes, the sky was falling, people was furious, it wasn't like the old one. Now some years later, everything is all ok, people moved on.
Software are obsoleted because of technology changes, trends (7.0 .. 622 really), securety holes (have fun trying to log into a serious place using old java), and improvements and updates. In my country, trying to log into any bank service using the god old IE 6.0 (from XP) will fail, at every single one, you will be told to uppgrade, for securety reasons.
Is this fair? Yes, it is indeed fair, securety holes, crashes, bugs and what not, will increase with the number of versions developer maintain, due to the sheer workload.
What do I do? Well I run different versions of many kinds of software and OS'es, mostly for testing purposes, but sometimes I also run legacy software for the simplicity you ask for ( I do run a severe old winamp, mostly beacouse I'm attached to it).
By the way, the simplest Skype version ever is the metro version in Windows 8.1/10, no options no nothing, you might want to check it out. (I hate it for that, I want more options and features), it will beat your 3.8 hands down for lack of features (and it's a new app).

  • Skype calls go to the cellphone even though Skype for desktop is open.

I just got a Skype call to the cellphone, even though I had Skype opened on my desktop. I'd rather take the call from the desktop. How can I do it? Is there a way to make either cellphone or desktop a default option?

Unfortunately I still have not had any success eliminating this issue.  I was in Best Buy the other day and one of the sales reps was talking to me about the Palm Pre and that he upgraded because he was having this problem with his 755p too.  I don't think I have the update that you are talking about so maybe I will give that a try.  I am in the same boat as you though....I don't have 3rd party software loaded on this phone and this problem has occurred on both 755p's that I have had.  It's a **bleep** shame too because I am very happy with this phone otherwise.  I am hoping that someone reads this thread who can tell us what the actual fix is (or at least that there isn't one) so I can decide what to do..........

It's really annoying because people message me thinking I'm near my pc when in fact I'm completly offline. Why does my status change to away when I sign out of skype? and when I sigh in again it comes to to normal online status.

Switching your phone off does not disconnect your Skype from the server.
Try the /showplaces and /remotelogout chat commands.
