The iTunes app store now allows download of the last working vesrion of skype for your OS.
Please go to iTunes store FROM YOUR DEVICE and try to download skype - it will tell you that your OS is not compatible with the current version of skype and will ask you to allow download of the last compatible skype version - you allow that and you will have a skype version which works for your iPod touch.

Is there any other way to get SKYPE FOR IPOD TOUCH?Not from your computer. You could get it via a friends computer that has it installed. You would have to sync from his computer and loose everything you have on your iPod. I suggest getting an inexpensive pre-paid debit card and use that.

Imessage for ipod touch ios 5: message send failure
My ipod touch (4th generation) which runs on ios 5 sometimes send messages but most of the time i receive a message send failure notice.
I have tried changing my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, resetting my network settings, restarting the phone, restarting imessage, turning off and turning on wifi.
It will work for maybe 10 minutes and then it will stop working and the cycle will repeat itself.
I have no idea what to do if you have any clue please help me, I would really appreciate it.

Hello, I am wondering if there is some way you can bring back skype for 2nd generation ipod touches. I know a large portion of the ipod users have a 2nd generation ipod touch. It would make this large group of people happy. I know it used to work for this ipod, but then you updated the skype app. This would increase the number of app downloads significantly.

Son has an ipod touch, FIRST gen. I mean "old." Found Skype 3.0.1 and he's up and running again.
Steps:
1. Open your Recycle Bin and locate older versions of skype
2. Drag older versions to your desktop
3. Using File Manager, go to c:\Users\[UserName]\MyMusic\iTunes\iTunesMedia\Mobile Applications (yours may be different; this is mine)
4. Drag your newest version of skype to your Desktop
5. Drag the newest 'old version' of skype to the Mobile Applications folder
6. Double click the old version which is now in your Mobile Applications folder. You will receive a warning message that you are overwriting another version. Click ok.
7. Go to iTunes and try to install Skype on your device. If it intalls, great. If not, you need to repeat this process with an older 'older version.'
8. When you get it installed, you can delete the old version from you Mobile Applications and replace it with the newsest version. iTunes will not update the ap on your old device because it knows it can't. If you have multiple devices in the house, people with newer 'stuff' get the latest version. People with older 'stuff' now have the older stuff.

My ten year old grandson has an apple ipod touch 3rd generation (32gb) that he plays on and I would like to install an ereader app to it but every app I've found so far needs an ios of 6 or greater and his is 5.1. What happened in the year or so that he cannot use this thing. Do we have to fork out 2 to 300 bills each year just to keep up with apps? I'm retired, tired and just plain to old to find another job this late in life. If anyone knows of a site I can download an ereader I would heartily appreciate it. Does the new update for ipod touch ( ios 6.1.6 ) restore your device?
There was a software update that came out a few days ago. A while back I updated my software ( a few month back ) and it restored my ipod, I had 89 apps ( 10 i paid for ) just a few pics and 127 songs - some i paid for.
So I had to pay for it allllllll again. I don't want to make the same mistake twice.
Could Someone Give Me Any Advice?
I know you can back it up to itunes or icloud and that.... but it still restores it!

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Some countries limit what yo can redownload without having to pay again.
Transfer iTunes purchases to you computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
Make a backup of your iPod too
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
Note that the iTunes backup does not include any synced media like apps and music.
The iCloud backup only includes iTunes purchases. -

“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”

It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.

Went to update apps on ipod touch IOS 4.2.1. I did a factory reset and now I can't get most of my apps back & can't download version 5.0 which I need to get back some of my apps. I paid for some of these. I've tried my backup and it didn't put them back on.
If your iPod Touch is too old for iOS 5 or later... there is not much you can do.
When/if you get a later model iDevice you will be able to Download Past Purchases using the Original ID that made those Purchases. (providing they are still supported by the Developer)

All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory. The 4G only has 256 MB
Also, you are not addressing Apple here. We are all just users like yourself. -

Download iTunes 11.1. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. Select your device under the Devices heading in the iTunes' sidebar. Click on the Summary tab in iTunes' main window. Click on the Update button.
Note that the update servers are under heavy strain today. -

I found an article talking about buying an upgrade for the iPod touch iOS 3.1 Software (1st generation) then decided to buy. That afternoon, I bought it, but so far so I can not download update. I receive a email informing me of my purchase, but when I'm redirected to the download page. I click on start downloading, but nothing happens. I wanted someone who went through this to help me, because I wanted this update!
