Skype has stopped working

My Skype on my Windows Vista 64 bit desktop hasn't worked for quite a while. I've finaly fixed the issue of it rolling back to an old version, but now as soon as I try to log in Skype stops responding, and crashes. The Event Viewer bit is as follows:
Faulting application Skype.exe, version 7.0.85.102, time stamp 0x54897b0f, faulting module Skype.exe, version 7.0.85.102, time stamp 0x54897b0f, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00ac882a, process id 0x9cc, application start time 0x01d02615cc0bb380.
I have no clue how to fix this, and support would be gladly accepted.
Thanks in advance!

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit option).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.

  • "Skype has stopped working" Error Message Windows 8.1 Skype 7.6

Hi, I just now installed the desktop version, I was previously using the other Windows 8 version, not sure what it's called but that doesn't matter. I was trying to call my friend and it said there was a problem with my mic. Well I bought a new mic and came home and it said there was a problem with my mic. I uninstalled it and installed the desktop version, thinking it would work better, but the desktop version tells me that it cannot detect my soundcard and to reboot my laptop. Upon starting up at the welcome screen, I continued to log in, and wait for my programs to load up. I opened skype, it closes without showing up, three more times I do this before running as admin. It tries to load and then gives me the crash report "Skype has stopped working" and says windows will let me know when they find a fix.

  • 'Skype has stopped working' problem

    Hi,
For some unknown reason my Skype has started refusing to work.
As soon as load it up it logs me in then briefly shows me my contact list for a few seconds before a pop up appears saying:
    'Skype has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...'
After another few seconds the pop up changes to saying
    'Sype has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.'
I had a look around on google and tried some suggestions but none have worked. I have uninstalled and reinstalled skype about 5 times so far. Twice using previous version of Skype but even they don't work.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Currently running Windows 7

Most likely this is one of the several cases when the latest Skype 7.0 version is not able correctly to interpret BIOS data. At least, this was the issue with the previously reported cases with this error message:
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x00d527d7
It seems that Skype has identified the issue and a fix is promised in one of the upcoming Skype versions.

Meanwhile, the working solution is to uninstall the 7.0 version and install the previous 6.21.0.104 Skype version:

Most likely, your Skype is crashing due to this new "http hack".
