Skype ignores mic/cam settings, forces all enabled
This is completely unacceptable. No software should be permitted to bypass system settings without a confirmation dialogue, and it certainly should not be able to enable hardware which is explicitly (if not destructively) disabled.
The mic I can deal with (at least it has an option to use an inactive input), but not allowing the webcam to be turned off? Who thought that was a good idea?
I can never make video calls and I can physically block the camera, but why is that necessary? Why can't I just say "don't use this" and be done with it?
Eaxcatly the same symptoms for me - help would be appreciated

Downloaded skype and now my settings have all changed!
Im a new mac user. i used to have firefox and some other apps on my computer plus ALOT of music. I downloaded skype and it was running fine, but today EVERYthing has changed. firefox is gone, my itunes library is gone and all my settings have changed. is there anyway to restore or undo what i did last night? im wondering if available memory had something todo with it?
Hi Chreesta and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I very much doubt that Skype itself is responsible, you didn't by any chance rename your 'Home' folder did you?
If so refer to the following:
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/renamehomerecovery.html
and
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428?viewlocale=en_US
Good luck,

What's with Skype Ignoring My Privacy Settings?
I prefer to be invisible and not have announcements going out about when I'm online.
So why are my contacts telling me they're now seeing status changes about me?
I've configured all of the following:
Status: Invisible
[ ] Allow my online status to be shown on the web (unchecked)
Is there some other setting I need to throw?
Or is this a horrible bug in the latest version? If so, what's the process for reverting?
-Noel
Solved!
Go to Solution.I have a similar problem. I have skype on two computers for years, and I have always remained logged in to both. Both acounts are set to invisible, and, until recently, both stayed on invisible. Never had a problem. Now either will change to online without me doing anything. What can I do?
I do not want to log off of either computer and I had never had to before -
N8 Camera Settings not working
When i go to Camera Settings (either by turning Camera on and going to Settings from Options or by Settings in the Main Menu) the Home Screen or the Menu Screen appears.
Plz resolve this issue as i can not be able to change my camera settings at all.
P.S. Settings is working in Video Mode but i m having issues only in Camera modeThere was discussion about a similar problem on the BetaLabs site (about a N8 Camera beta version).
If you can access Camera settings in video mode then you could tap "Restore camera settings" there.
After that Settings should work from image mode too.
(All Camera settings are set to defaults then so redo any changes if you were not using the default values.) -
Bug Report: Enabling Application Frame forces all open documents into tabs
Steps to reproduce the problem:
Set Preferences -> Interface -> "Open Documents as Tabs" to OFF
Open a bunch of documents. Observe that they are separate floating windows, which is good
Choose Window -> "Application Frame" which will turn the default Application Frame off
Choose Window -> "Application Frame" which will re-enable the Application Frame and force all of your open docs into tabs, which is undesired!

Preferences -> Interface -> Uncheck "Enable Floating Document Window Docking"
This will prevent you from accidentally dragging a document near the top of the Aplication Frame and having it sucked into a tab.
That said, I think it is still a problem to have all documents brought into tabs when turning on Window -> Application Frame when all of the available "don't use tabs" options are chosen. -
QuickTime Broadcaster camera settings ignored
Since there does not seem to be a separate forum for QuickTime Broadcaster, I'll put my question here...
I am using a cheap little Logitech USB webcam with QuickTime Broadcaster. It works fine, but after I set up brightness, contrast etc in the camera Options window, the settings go back to the defaults when I turn on the broadcast. This is not the case if I use the built-in camera on my MacBook -- the settings stick where I want them. Any suggestions?
Thanks...I discovered that if I use the Macam app to adjust the Logitech camera settings, and save them, that those settings are then used as the defaults within QuickTime Broadcaster.
Problem solved. -
T530 Lenovo Integrated Camera not working, Lenovo Camera Settings does not Display
Hello, I have a new T530 with Windows 8 OS. I am having trouble using the integrated camera. It functions neither in the Windows camera app nor in Skype. In both cases I get a picture with a gray background and a camera with a line through it. In Device manager, the camera does appear, is enabled, and the drivers are up to date.
After looking through other threads, I tried checking whether the camera was plugged in and indeed it was. When using Skype and I set the camera to on (Skype did detect the camera), I still got the gray no camera image, but the green light on the camera itself turned on.
I also tried using Fn+F6 to check settings. Lenovo settings opens, but the when I click the camera settings Icon, the screen loads a blank page that says "Camera" in the top right and has a back button (left pointing arrow) in the top left hand corner. The back button does not seem to work and I must change the window to something else in order to exit/close settings.
I tried manually installing both camera drivers and "power management" ("energy management"?) drivers. Neither of this solved either of these issues.
Please help me to resolve this problem. Thank you.Hi, euterpenc
I would make sure that the BIOS is up to date in the system. The current BIOS for your system is 2.07 and can be found here. Also, I would ensure that the chipset drivers are up to date, and those can be found here.
Hope it helps, and let me know how it goes

What camera resolution mode is used by the Flash Player camera settings manager
What camera resolution is used by the Flash Player camera settings manager? I am referring to the camera settings that you have to pull up by right-clicking on a Flash Player swf that is running, and from the right-click menu you hit settings...select the camera tab...and then you can hit the little camera icon and will show you the live video feed from the camera.
In order for the live feed to be displayed, Flash Player requests a camera resolution mode to the driver. What mode is being requested?
For example, could it be 160x120 @ 30fps?
Or is it 176x144 @ 30fps?
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help04.html#117113I have the same cam as you (it's apretty darn good cam IMHO).
I don't ever see any resolution request when I click the icon.
My cam initializes at 1920X1080, per the logitech specs. The box in the settings is 4:3, but the cam is running at 16:9, in apps like Skype, or FaceTime (Mac).
It shows the same setup screen in WIn XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8, which ALL share the same cam on my setup.
Being as the cam feed in the setup is 4:3, I'd have to say the resolution is 160:120 as opposed to 176:144 which would be a 5.3:3 or 16:9. -
OS X 10.5.4 ignoring my preferences settings
I posted this question under a different heading, but after thinking about it I think the multiple symptoms are all attributable to OS X ignoring my preferences settings. I'm experiencing the following problems.
First, after working fine for months (since I got the computer), my mouse no longer registers my right clicks. The right mouse button works just like the main mouse button, even though my preference settings are for the right mouse button to be enabled.
Second, after working fine since the beginning, Spaces no longer opens applications in the space they are assigned. E.g., I have safari and mail assigned to space 2, and word and excel to space 1. They used to open correctly in their assigned space, but now they all open in whichever space is the active one. Again, the settings in the Spaces pref's pane remain unchanged.
Third, I had set my security preferences to require a password to wake from screensaver. The preferences remain unchanged, but now the computer wakes from the screensaver without requiring a password.
Fourth, I have the program "Text Expander" installed. It works as a preferences pane, but now no longer functions even though all settings in the preferences pane for the program remain unchanged.
All of this started last week. Logging out and back in does not correct the problem. I tried rebooting on Friday, which did solve all of these problems. After coming back to work after the weekend, the problems are back, and rebooting no longer solves them. I also tried trashing my finder preferences, but this did not seem to help.
Any advice appreciated.
- TomThank you for the reply and the advice. I downloaded MainMenu and ran the various scripts, including repair permissions, and then rebooted. This didn't fix the problem. I then added a new account to see if the problem was restricted to my own account or was system wide. The new account worked properly, and then after switching back, my main account also worked...
Until this morning, when it was not working again. I rebooted again, and currently the Mac is responding to the System Preferences settings. (We'll see how long this lasts, though.)
A couple of additional things I noticed while the Mac was not responding to system preferences:
Fast user switching, although enabled, did not work and the account name did not appear in the menu bar;
Items that I had dragged off of the dock reappear after logging on again.
Thanks,
Tom -
I have an Iphone6 plus and my photos are taking all my storage. I can't update or download anything, what to do?
Actually iCloud doesn't keep your photos until you back up your iPhone to iCloud: tap Settings > iCloud > Backup > enable Backup and tap Back Up Now. However, I have to tell you that iCloud backup file only contains your photos on your iPhone Camera Roll and can't be viewed unless you restore your iPhone with the backup file. For photos in Photo Library, you need to find a third-party tool to copy them to your computer. In a word, in my opinion, you'd better import photos to your computer: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support

Apple devices ignoring DHCP rules - using up all my IP addresses on the FiOS-G1100
Your lease time may be causing a bug in the DHCP client on Apple devices. That is an unusually long lease time so I wouldn't be surprised if it was something like an integer vs float vs signed integer problem in the code. Please consider cutting the leases down to 3600 minutes, and then use DHCP Reservation for any devices that you own which you would like to keep on a fixed IP.
Now if this is for guest devices, consider limiting your least time to 30 to 60 minutes. Many devices are mobile and do not need 90 day long leases. That's wasteful of an otherwise limited IP subnet.Apple devices ignoring DHCP rules - using up all my IP addresses on the FiOS-G1100 Hi all, I have now gone through two of the new quantum gateways and both allow Apple devices of all kinds to bypass the lease time that I set to something like 129600 Minutes for that specific IP Address (which is 90 days, or three months). People using our guest network end up taking all our non-static addresses and then we have none left to issue out to other users or staff. I'm about to receive my third g1100 from Verizon and I'm pretty sure it's not the box but the firmware. I've had to do 2-3 hard resets on both boxes since Jan '15 to erase everything and start over with loading custom settings back in. A Huge pain. Once all addresses are taken up and you login as Admin on the router, half of the UI options have now disappeared. Also in general there is no way to manually force the router to expire LAN IP addresses even after a hard reset. Or is there and I just have never seen this option? Anyone else experience this? I've spent about 3 hours with multiple reps who either don't believe me or have no idea how their product works. I'm beginning to either think I'm crazy or there's a bug and no one has reported it yet. Best,Lockdown

Skype interferes with microphone settings
I discovered the hard way that using Skype interferes with microphone settings in such a way that ViaVoice no longer recognizes the sound input device. It may affect other applications as well, I am not sure. I posted this issue back in July in a thread titled ViaVoice/Tiger, but no one had a solution at that time. After months of tinkering, emailing ScanSoft (no clue) and being very frustrated, I finally found the answer. I wanted to post it in its own thread to be sure people see it. Here is the fix:
After hours of trying different ways to get ViaVoice to work again after using Skype, I discovered this simple procedure:
1. Quit Skype
2. Go to System Preferences/Sound/Input
3. Select an input source *other than* the one you want to use with ViaVoice.
4. Launch ViaVoice SetupAssistant and click through the steps until you get the error message "It appears microphone is not connected .... "
5. Minimize all open apps so you can see the ViaVoice window, and select Quit ViaVoice
6. Now go back to System Preferences and change the input source back to the mic you want to use
7. ViaVoice will now function normally until the next time you use Skype, at which point it will break again.?Please GOD!! Help me, even if i dont?give a **bleep**?on you. PLEAAAASE........ Buddy. Does this look like a mixer? Nooooooo!!!I dont have Vista installed anymore, so i cannot give u a step by step howto. Search for a mixer like in WinXP, Win2000/ Win98/ Win95/ WinME/Win2003/Win3.x/WinNT/ and Win VISTA!?Try to right- click on the speaker- picture in your Task- bar. maybe this will help you.

How to configure default parental settings for all users (10.7)?
Hello,
I've made a silent installation of iTunes using MSI files and it works well.
I need to enable parental controls and configure it. Users must be preventing of changing these settings.
At the end of the iTunes installation I automatically created registry keys :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.\iTunes\Parental Controls]
"AdminFlags"=dword:001b7ac5
"AdminMoviesLimit"=dword:000000c8
"AdminTVShowsLimit"=dword:000001f4
"AdminRatingSystemID"=dword:0000000b
"AdminGamesLimit"=dword:0000012c
According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2102 it is the procedure to set default parental settings for all users and to lock these settings.
When iTunes is first launched, parental settings are not set nor locked.
I use iTunes 64 bits on Windows 7 64 bits.
Where is the mistake?
Thanks in advance. You can set up a system cache for sharing jars: See here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/javaws/developersguide/enterprise_config.03.06.html

iphone not my photos are appearing in the photo stream and it's all enabled what problem?
Welcome to the Apple community.
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
If this doesn't help you may need to reset photo stream. You can do this at icloud.com by clicking on your name in the top right corner and then the advanced settings in the pop-up dialogue box that appears. -
RAW Native Camera Settings for Nikon - do they convert?
Question on RAW processing in Lightroom. Can Lightroom show ALL of the the in-camera settings (WB, saturation, etc.) selected when the shot was taken? I prefer not to have to re-cook the RAW photos from scratch on every picture. Nikon NX2 provides this option (i.e. the RAW and JPEG can look identical as starting points on your screen) which I find helpful versus dealing with uncooked RAW images to start with each time. I am considering Lightroom for lots of other good reasons but this is a threshold issue for me due to time, etc.
Would love to hear anyone's experience on this. I use a Nikon D80.
Thanks much.
GaryRobert,
Specific camera settings, etc, are in fact stored in Nikon Nefs and can be read by NX2--or changed, if one wishes in NX2, but nowhere else, as has been stated.
Eric,
Presets, or profiles, may come close in some instances to reasonably good starting points for NEFs in LR2, so if that is all you need or use NX2 for, then your advice is reasonable.
However, at this point in time, NX2 has some distinct advantages, most notably much more advanced and faster local corrections tools than LR2 and soft proofing, to name two.
However, LR2 editing is integrated with a catalog database, and NX2 is browser based, and that may make LR2 worth the tradeoff for some users. Both, of course, offer non destructive editing.
Each has it strengths and weaknesses, so I use both to take advantage of the unique tools each offers.
