Skype installation error 1603
Hello, 8 days ago skype started to malfunction on my laptop and I get this error and it says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." and this happens when I click to open the program, I also unistalled then reinstalled the program and I get to errors and it says "Object already exists." and the second error I get says "Installing Skype failed, code 1603 A fatal error occured during installation" I tried everything I can to resolve this error from Google then youtube. Please help me!
The "Object already exists" error message is known to be caused by the recent Windows Security update KB2918614. Due to changes this update made to Windows Installer, not only Skype, but also several other updates (e.g. Adobe Reader, Java and even updates for Sophos Antivirus) may suffer from this behaviour. Uninstalling this update will rectify the issue, and this update can always be subsequently reinstalled (when the affected application is successfully installed/updated).
Try to uninstall this Windows Security update KB2918614.

Remember to reboot your computer after uninstalling this update.
After uninstalling this update try again to install Skype.

I receive an installation error 1603 when I attempt to install software from Olympus cameras (and only from Olympus). I have tried registry fixes, I have checked rights to files and folders and nothing has worked. When I have had a previous version of Olympus installed I seem to remember a Visual C++ error which led me to uninstall and attempt to re-install. Since all had been working fine I assume cause is a Windows update but no idea how to repair.
Thanks for any help.Hi froven,
Do you find a log file for the installation that provide more details for this error? 1603 doesn't say much except that the installation failed. Maybe there is some more info in the Windows event log?
It could be a problem with the Visual C++ redistributable if there was an error related to that.

Here are the steps how i did solve this issue
Since VMM 2012 R2 Requires ADK 8.1 and this requires SQL 2012 Express.
In order SQL Server 2012 to be installed successfully .Net Frame Work 3.5 feature on Windows Server has to be enabled first, in this case it is not not being installed by ADK Installation wizard as a result SQL service fails to start, which results on VMM
installation to fail.
Please try to enable .Net Frame Work 3.5 feature on Windows Server 2012 R2 before you install ADK 8.1 -
I'm getting an error when installing my AIR app, specifically
error 1603.
Adobe AIR Runtime was installed as Administrator (WinXP Pro),
but user's permission is a power user. When I check system logs, I
get the following error:
Product: MyAirApp -- Error 1925. You do not have sufficient
privileges to complete this installation for all users of the
machine. Log on as administrator and then retry this installation.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Sooo... How do I configure the installer to not install for
all users and just the current user? There doesn't seem to be an
option anywhere in the packager for this.
Thanks!
- KevinThere is no option for per-user install; you'll have to be
admin to install the application.

Fatal error during installation - Error 1603 ONLY on XP
My Dears,
while installing any CS3 or CS4 Adobe product for my friend, at ~90% of installation error comes up:
"Adobe Photoshop CS4
Error:
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation."
I am struggling to solve it for 3 days now, and of corse I have seen and tryied all things proposed in posts like this: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/373577 , but still nothing helps me.
Thats list of all things that I have tryied to do:
- CleanUp fix
- Uninstalling all Adobe before fix
- Turning Internet off fix
- Turning anti-vir things off fix
- Registery fix
- Starting from CLEAN new system fix
- Changing language from US to International fix
Still nothing. Probably thats the point of problem:
Current Situation:
Got ACER ASPIRE x3200 desktop width Windows Vista (preinstalled), did clean installation of Windows XP and dumped Vista
There is no official drivers for XP, but got cracked chipset driver and official nVidia 8200 driver for XP from Internet
Got all Service Packs
100% legal
If nothing is working, maybe thats becaouse of my PC?! Installed it on my laptop with Vista 32b - WORKS (it means that installation CD is not corruptet or something). But then I have tryied to install it on another laptop with XP PRO - fail as with my PC. It seems that Windows XP Pro is not good for CS3 or CS4, BUT it did months before in my old unbranded PC.
Help! I really want to install that stuff.
Best Regards,
WestmidlanderI was only speaking very generally... This is all common sense...
Adobe and other software makers are moving on from XP in their development. Thus XP becomes more and more troublesome to use as the likelihood of problems increases.
In the case of installation, a lot of very specific things are required of an installer so that it can work on Windows 7. The User Account Control (UAC) system and other security measures such as file permissions have to be completely and properly satisfied to install software on the newer systems. Indeed, the application itself even has to work differently to be compliant - reference the recent 12.0.2 issues with loading scanner drivers for example, or the fact that Photoshop needs to put some things under C:\Users\... now that always used to be put under C:\Program Files\Adobe\...
It's not hard to imagine that Adobe isn't testing software as thoroughly on XP as they once did either. Perhaps they missed one of the quirks of XP in pursuit of getting it to install properly on Windows 7.
You're putting a new cutting edge software application on an operating system designed nearly 10 years ago (an epoch in high tech). That you don't see even more problems is a testament to Adobe's committment to support XP.

TEMPRO 1.1 fatal installation error 1603
Hello,
I cannot install TEMPRO 1.1 for "CS" language. It always fails in msiinstaller with an error 1603 just after the welcome screen and pressing "Dalsi>" (Next) button. I am attaching the log file of the installer, or rather the important lines.
My HW/SW: R500, Vista Business CZ.
By the way, if you want to grab the application as well, do not start at the page: http://ce.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?LNG=21&service=CE&ID=TEMPO_HEL P_1_2&PRODUCT_ID=TEMPO_HELP_1_2#Q2
Here, you can read "fetch from our website" (Czech: "stahnout z naseho webu"), but the link is in bold only.
Could I ask why Toshiba did not implement the simple TEMPRO application in Java? It would run for many years as in the case of some other non-Toshiba laptops.Hello,
if I wanted to be lucky, I would not use computers at all :-)
Are you sure that the English version of Tempro will not replace the Czech software components with English updates?
Mores, you may use Toshiba for a longer time...do you know an offical channel where "a user" could report all the bugs? Do you know anybody who works at the Toshiba control quality department? Their software has more features (aka bugs) than anything else I used before. -
I Tunes- Installation ERROR 1603 ?
I have disabled fire walls and virus protection, cleared temp files and defraged.
Have a clean install of XP and STILL get installation errors- - 1406, 1402, and the killer is 1603
Any ideas would help me retain my hair !

Update Installation Error 1603
Get update error 1603. I have tried the suggested solutions to the extent I was able. Could not change the settings on the Windows color folder (the settings were grayed out). I have not uninstalled yet because the only software download on my account is the 2012 upgrade to XI and I am not sure if that will give me the full version of the software if I delete what is currently on my PC (Windows 8.1).

Upgrading to 7.1.1.5 - receive installation error 1603
I was running iTunes 6 and need to upgrade to 7 for AppleTV support. Unfortunately, I can't.
When I run the installer is quickly ends and says it has encountered errors. I looked at the log file in the temp directory and the only error is a 1603 (not very descriptive).
I've tried all of the suggestions for cleaning out directories, removing conflicting programs, upgrading the installer, etc. and nothing helps.

Skype installation - Error 0x80070002
Hi,
I'm on build 9860, but Skype won't make me login, despite several attempts, restarts and shutting downs.
So I've decided to uninstall it from PC Settngs and re-install it from the Store. Easy right?
Well not, apparently I get this error 0x80070002, so I've downloaded the iFixit application from the Microsoft Website, but it didn't solve the problem.
There are no downloadable content in Windows Update, so I kindly ask you if you have any suggestions to fix this problem.
Thank you very much
Giulio VitaliHi SkullkidLink,
Glad to hear that the desktop version works.
The skype APP works at my side, Windows 10 Technical Preview 9860 version.
If next time you encounter the same error, we may take a try with the steps mentioned in the follwoing article:

I have updated some apps, some of them did, a couple don't, I assume I'll wait an update of the windows store.
Skype it's not essential as an app right now, so I'll not create any more trouble and just wait, if something changes I'll update the topic, so that someone in the same condition as I am will find a solution :) -

Thank you.
Regards,Mine is solved.
Was because I removed VMM 2012 R2 on the same host (again, because R2 doesn't do P2V conversions) but the uninstall failed to remove "Microsoft Web Deploy 3.5". When VMM 2012 SP1 installs uses Web Deploy 3.0 and was blocked by the newer version. uninstalled
3.5 and then the console install worked.
hopes this helps someone out there.

I personally whould not recommend that, because uninstalling the update KB2918614 places the Windows Installer service back to its original design, but also leaves it vulnerable to the reported security issue https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS14-049
more info about this here: http://windowsitpro.com/security/bug-or-feature-kb2918614-alters-windows-installer-behavior
so, the right way to solve this this, is fixing user credentials and permissions, that could be corrupted by a virus.
1 - Reset File Permissions: http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/reset_file_permissions.html
2 - Reset Registry Permissions: http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/reset_registry_permissions.html
3 - Repair MSI (Windows Installer): http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/repair_msi_windows_installer.html
after that, you can try uninstall KB2918614 and then install KB2918614 again from Windows Update in Control Panel. -

I'm having trouble locating a windows installer log. The %temp% folder would be in docs&settings\userid\local settings\temp, I would assume and I've looked through the folders for the acct that is doing the client install as well as all the other acct folders and can't seem to locate any logs with a current date/time stamp. Any idea where I would look?
Also, BTW, I reinstalled MSI 4.5 before I did this last client installation, but I did it remotely/silently, so no prompts or data returned... I just found the errors below in the \windows\KB942288-v3.log file... might be related?
