Skype just started crashing on multiple clients

Question

Been using skype for many years every single day. Today, randomly, it crashed. On restart, it crashes repeatedly, within seconds.
verion: 7.5.85.101
What I've tried:
Deleted %appdata%\Skype and %appdata%\local\temp\skype\dbtemp. Same result.
Compact view. Same result.
Other computers. Same result. One is win7 other win8.1. Different versions of skype.
Android Phone, where it was working earlier today also. Same result.
I've never had "citrix reciever" installed.

I found out what's doing it. I was in a skype chat with 70 people. Someone typed a very particular string, which I won't paste here to save everyone, but all 70 people had this issue. Everyone needs to log into old client or web skype to use skype from then on. And there's no way to get out of the offending chat on the affected skype's, as it crashes too quickly to do anything, and it doesn't save any state.
