Skype Keeps Hanging Up

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend.
"I recently got a new Macbook (aluminium) and installed Skype. Everytime I'm a few minutes into the call, the call automatically hangs up and it says "Connection Lost" on the window. I have an iMac at home and it doesn't gives me such problems. What can I do?"

Skype keeps hanging the video/audio every few seconds why?

I daily speak to my disabled son in his hospice some miles away.
I am running OS X 10.9.1 on a mid2012 rMBP using the latest version of Skype.
He is running the same OS and Skype on an iMac.
For many weeks we have been suffering from repeated hangs of video/audio during the conversation, this happens about every 5-10 seconds and lasts about 5-10 seconds. As you can imagine this is very frustrating. Before you say it I have tried FaceTime and that is even worse.
Now today after screaming at my ISP last night and at their suggestion I turned off my Firewall during the conversation and lo and behold the hanging stopped. Switching it back on during the conversation the call remained stable without hanging - v.strange.
Now I then dropped the call switched off the firewall and recalled - the hanging continued.
Additionally I notice that the Video changes from 4:5 to 16:9 and back again regularly and I think this is due to a poor connection but my end has had no errors and runs at 78Mb/s down with 16Mb/s up (sons is 35 down 16 up - no knowledge of error situation).
The firewall is of real interest since there appears to be many reports of issues with Skype and Mavericks.

Ever since Microsoft bought Skype I have been experience more and more issues like this. I used Skype to keep in touch with my family in Europe and for the past year or so Skype got so bad that I am slowly switching to Viber and FaceTime, depending on is available to the people I talk to. Even when I talk to friends in US abour 3 hours away I still prefer Facetime over Skype.
if you tried FaceTime and it didn't work for you, I am not sure what else you could try. if you don't need video, just try Viber.

Skype keeps hanging on log on

Alright, so, I've been using Skype fine for the past few months. There was a minor hiccup I got around a few months ago, but other than that it's been smooth sailing. However, today it's just decided to start playing up. It consistently hangs on the login screen, the white dots just infinitely spinning around. I'm using AVG and Windows Firewall, I have Skype whitelisted on AVG (that was the solution the last time this happened), though I also tried straight up disabling my antivirus, which still didn't work, I've already tried renaming the %appdata% profile folder, uninstalling and reinstalling Skype, and clearing all of my internet history on IE. I can sign into my mobile Skype fine, as well as the metro app, but the desktop app consistently does this. I'd prefer not to have to uninstall my Anti Virus, if that's at all possible. I'm on Windows 8.1 (with Classic Shell Version 4.1.0, if that does anything), Skype version 7.6.64.103 and Internet Explorer version 11.0.9600.17842. Please help.

Skype keeps hanging up on me?

Going back years ago and I mean years my friend in the US and I could use Skype without a problem but over the last year or so we have nothing but PROBLEMS. We both have noted this on the 'how did skype go today panel' and even though we put our answers as all bad!!! There has been NO change infact it has got worse!! Skype is free so I dont think that we should have to pay and from what I hear it makes no difference anyway?? Can someone help me out or explain why???

i wish i could help, but my mac book... not even 24 hrs old did the same thing. i spent all night on the phone with tech support and they told me to bring it in to a mac store... i think i am just going to exchange it because i am thinking that i got a lemmon.

Skype constantly hanging up on android samsung gal...

Hi folks.
I often use skype to talk to my buddies during evenings. I have a samsung S4 I9505 (vers 5.0.1) while a majority also have samsung phones, with a variation of models. The contact I spend most time talking to has a samsung (unsure of the model, some kind of lesser expensive galaxy, firm 5.0.1). Now to my questions.
I have been talking to my friend every day, constantly for a month. During the conversations, Skype spontaneusly at least three to four times per hour, regularly. What happens is that suddenly, I stop hearing my friend and there is silence for six to seven seconds and Skype hangs up. I will try to describe in detail:
We both use Wifi.
We both have chargers connected while talking or at least I do.
Skype actually hangs up "call ended", but does not crash, the program is still active.
I have no problems with other apps whatsoever.
Both of our phones aren't tampered with in any way, they have stock firmware and they are automatically updated.
My other question is that I have noticed that Skype automatically increases volume if it senses a say, tvshow or blender in background, spontaneusly increasing volume of background noise so becomes like really, really loud. Especially with speaker on. Is there a way to switch off this feature? There is a way on PC, was just wondering if I'm missing something.
I am sorry for starting a potentially redundant topic, been searching around but found nothing that at least fits my description.

I've run into a similar (but opposite) situation recently. I upgraded my Mac to 10.10.3 around the same time I upgraded to the latest Skype application (around April 13th). Now my non-Skype contacts do not appear in any of my custom lists. My contacts are only in the "All" list. They still are fine on my iPad, however.
When I select a contact on my Mac, all of the checkboxes for which custom list the contact should be in are blank (unchecked). I've reinstalled older versions of Skype for Mac and wiped out the settings. This did not make a difference which makes me think the list settings stored on the Skype servers have been damaged.
The iPhone version of Skype doesn't seem to even have access to these custom lists. Skype keeps getting worse and worse with each update!

Please help! Safari keeps hanging/not responding and freezes everything else up.

I've got a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and Safari (5.1.9) keeps hanging/crashing. I'm afraid I'm not very good with these things so I'll just have to tell the story...
It's happening when I start up Safari, either the home page (Google) doesn't fully load and the pinwheel appears, or it loads but as soon as I try to search or use bookmarks the pinwheel appears. I'm unable to quit Safari, open or close Finder or any software, and it won't shut down normally either. I've tried using Cmd-Option-Esc to Force Quit but the pinwheel appears again and nothing happens. The only option left is to do a hard shut down. After repeating this 5 or 6 times it eventually lets me use Safari, but will almost always hang again unexpectedly at some point during the day. I know this isn't the best way to deal with it but I don't know what else to do!
I'm sorry if this question has already been asked and answered, but because I don't have an error report I don't know whether my issue is the same and don't want to start messing with things when I'm not sure what I'm doing. Thanks in advance for your help!
P.S. The unexpected hanging and freezing started while I was running Leopard and an older version of Safari. I tried to back up and reinstall the OS but my optical disk drive wouldn't read the disk, so I had to take it to an Apple store where they couldn't find anything wrong but installed Snow Leopard and hoped that fixed the problem. It didn't, and it's since started happening on start up, as described above.

Open Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then click Verify Disk.
If the disk needs repairing, you will need to use the install disc(s) that came with your Mac.

Brand new iMAC keeps hanging

Hi All
I received my brand new iMAC today - having never had a MAC anything before - decided to switch as fed up of hanging, viruses etc on PCs and also need more multimedia options.
Have set it all up it keeps hanging - for no reason i click on force quit and sometimes it will and sometimes it won't even do that - I am totally confused it has done it to me on MAC Office, iCalc, i photos, i tunes etc etc
Do i have a dud machine am i doing something wrong???? Please help.

Welcome to the forum. Chances are you don't have a dud. In case you haven't read the manual I would recommend doing so before playing with your machine, you will be surprised what you learn.
Also when you mention the machine is hanging please describe with a little more detail so we can understand exactly what you mean.
You are covered by 90 days for free telephone support, if the problem persists take advantage of the support and give Apple a call. In the rare event you did get a dud they will replace the machine within 14 days of purchase.
Last IMHO it is a good idea to get AppleCare, this gives you 3 years of phone support and an additional 2 years of warranty. You can find it online (Amazon for example) for less than Apple charges.

My mac mini keeps hanging

hi everyone, newbie here, bought a mac mini solo cos i loved its looks and functions. however, a couple of moths later, the darn thing keeps hanging on me. its very frustrating! can anyone advise, cos i dont know what's wrong. thought it was overheating, so put it on its side, turned on air-con, but its still hanging very often.
any help is apprciated! thanks.

how long have you had the mac before it started doing this ?
certainly a reinstall wont hurt, i would do that and then see.
best to copy all your documents / music ect to your ipod and then do a complete re-install without saving any files, just incase.
if it solves it, great.
If not at least you have eliminated software issues, then best call apple and see if they will sort it out for you, or take it to your local apple store and see the guys at the bar

Why my itunes keep hang on syncing backup?

I had tried all troubleshoot but i still having trouble with my itunes.
I cant sign in to Itune store & when I tried to sync it keep hang on part 2 ( backing up )

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

I currently am facing some problems with my zen. I have used the zen for 2 mths without problems. When I recently updated the firmware, my zen keeps hanging and it turns on with dim lighting. Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
If that fails:
Restore from your back up, repair the Library and try again.

Help -- OS X keeps hanging

Hi guys,
One of my accounts keeps hanging on me when I try to do certain things (like open a pdf document or open any of hte MS office apps), and I have to restart the whole computer. I was told it is a software problem. I have tried updating my software, and the problem seems worse than ever; in the past I could wait 5 minutes for word to load, but now it just refuses to load.
Any suggestions?

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, and enter ~/Library/Preferences/ as the folder's location. Select the plists for those applications, and then drag them to the desktop. If the system works properly without them, drag them to the Trash and empty it.
How do I transfer all my files and preferences here?
To transfer over your files, move them to the /Users/Shared/ folder, and then log in from the new account. Drag them from the /Users/Shared/ folder to your current account's home folder while holding down the Option key. You should not move over your preferences until you've isolated which file or files is responsible for your issues, as it may cause the same problem to occur in the new account.
