If you want to see the regular Skype login screen then the only option is to make Internet Explorer to work. You can try to uninstall the currently installed version and reinstall the IE8 version.
http://filehippo.com/download_internet_explorer_xp
The other option is to make use of the “legacylogin” workaround, which should enable login to Skype using the old legacy login window. However, you will not be able to login using Microsoft account (email address).
Quit Skype. Make sure that you don’t see any Skype.exe processes in Windows Task Manager. If necessary, then stop these processes.
Open this folder on your computer:
C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\
You should see there the Skype application file (Skype.exe).  Right click on the Skype.exe file and select: Send to – Desktop (create shortcut). Right click on the newly created shortcut and select Properties and then the Shortcut tab. In the Target field you will see now:
"C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe"
Click with your mouse on the text in the Target field and move your curser one space after the last quotation sign and add the text /legacylogin. The text in the Target field should now read:
"C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe"  /legacylogin
Click OK to save the changes. Start Skype using this new shortcut. Try now login to Skype?

  • Login Window Blank When Connecting to Public Hotspot

I have a new MBA running 10.7.2.  Whenever I go into an airport, the open Wi-Fi is detected, and then I am presented with a pop-up screen whose title says "Joining....ABC Wifi" (ABC = whatever the hotspot is).  However, the screen is completely blank.  No buttons on it or any content.  I know that this is a new feature that OSX Lion brought in, so that we wouldn't have to authenticate through a browser window, but with mine being blank, there's nothing I can do to authenticate.
When I open a browser window, all I get is a message saying the security certificate is invalid.  The two airports I use appear to be using Cisco technology for their public hotspots.
Funny thing is that it works fine on my iPad and iPhone.  But on this MBA it doesn't.  And I also tried it on a regular MacBook that I upgraded to Lion - same is

Well I've waited a few days and it looks like my discussion will end up like the rest of the unresolved discussions.
I have one last update for future Macbook Air or any Macbook user for that matter.
I am here at a Barnes and Noble and came here specifically to test out the public wifi. Nothing much has changed on my laptop since the last time I used it at the library per my original post. The one thing that did change was that I just received a UEFI update this morning. For those of you not familiar with it, it is a BIOS update.
Whether or not that had anything to do with why my Macbook Air is working now is beyond me, but I can confirm that yes it is suddenly working now. Perhaps it is because it is sometimes an intermittent issue that the threads before me died.
I would like to clarify though that when all is working correctly, a splash page pops up the moment you join the wireless network. It's not in Safari, it's in its own app/window. What this means is that you should not have to open up Safari to find the webpage although I suspect it's possible to still see it in Safari if you didn't properly accept the terms of use.
I don't want to say it's 100% yet because for me it's only been 50% success, but I hope that if anyone at Apple is listening that I hope that this issue is resolved. A Macbook Air without wireless access may as well be a car without wheels. Hopefully this car doesn't ever lose its wheels again.
    Thanks.

  • Login Problem:  Blank screen after the login window?

I have a user who has a 2008 MacBook Pro 15" Intel laptop running 10.5.4. It is bound to AD, with managed mobile account on the laptop (cached user credentials). The user is off the LAN right now on a road trip and is having problems logging into the laptop. When she logs in with her user ID and password, the login window takes a long time (15 minutes!) to authenticate her, and then when the login window finally goes away and the user's profile starts to load (expecting to see the Finder, Dock, menu bar UI etc), nothing happens - the screen sits at the default desktop picture and the user's account never loads.
Her AD password has not expired. She is a local admin on the laptop too.
Other local user accounts can log into the laptop without problems.
I have 100+ other identical users who dont have this problem.
I assume that a user-specific file has been corrupted. Any guess on which ones?

Due to the number of problems with "upgrading" to this OS level, I suggest you try the very clean and very forceful AutoLoader OS Reload:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-OS-Device-Software/Upgrading-OS10-devices-using...
Beware that it is completely destructive...the device will be "like new"...no data, no apps, no accounts, etc. Be sure you take a full backup first, as well as make full manual documentation of all apps, accounts, configurations, etc. Sometimes a restore reintroduces the very corruption one is trying to eliminate, and manual reconfiguration is necessary.
You can also use this to fall back to a prior OS if you desire...you can install any OS level for which you can find an AutoLoader. (Hint...search over on the CB site!)
Good luck and let us know!

  • My MacBook Pro Retina's Bluetooth chipset unknown/odd login message on the login screen states Login Window Authentication Login window Name edit text has keyboard focus. In addition, the login screen is not remembering me

I have been experiencing several issues with my MacBook Pro Retina mid 2012. My MBPR is scheduled to go into the depot. However, I am wondering if anyone may be able to shed light on a few issues as this is the third "official" time my MBPR is going back for service ("one depot" trip; "one authorized" dealer; several in-store visits).
My Bluetooth is stating that the Bluetooth Chipset is Unknown (0). I also have had Bluetooth Preferences mysteriously change on me. In addition, while Bluetooth is off there are two serial modems turning on. I have turned them off, but they continue to pop up.
In addition, when I log in, my MBPR is not remembering me and my login name is not appearing on the slate-gray screen. The name and password are blank and the following message appears in the lower left hand corner. "login window authentication login window Name edit text has keyboard focus."  As a side note, I am the only user. The login issue is a recent occurrence as we just totally wiped it again via a Command + R, and I don't believe I have an accessibility setting set to anything that would cause this, but wanted to check.
Should I be concerned here? Has anyone else had issues like this? I don't want to worry if I don't have to. I have had so many issues over the course of nine months. 5-6 wipes. Airport card replaced and I am about to pull my hair out if my MBPR doesn't come back worldly like clock work this time. I just can't send my days trying to get a $2300 product to work for me any longer. No idea what is wrong with it, but it is driving me insane. Cross your fingers for me and any guidance you have or thoughts would be welcomed. Thank you. EMM

    A few more issues...

My guest files are locked, but again I am the administrator of MBPR.
I am worried about a keystroke logged or at least, trying to rule it out.
    Also:
Mdworker32(225) [and other mdworker numbers] are sandboxing; stating deny Mach-lookup
Com.apple.Powermanagement.control, etc. long attachment with those files with version: ??? (???).

    WARNINGS in Console include:
[NSImage compositeToPoint:fromRect:operation:fraction:] is deprecated in MacOSX 19.8 and later. Please use -[NSImage drawAtPoint:fromRect:operation:fraction] instead.
There are a ton of other warnings. Before I go through this again, can someone tell me if this is normal (all of it -- above too); or if these are symptoms is a keystroke logger or hardware issues?
I ask because originally, when my computer went in for diagnostics (more than once), Apple stated the hardware was fine (other than Airport Card -- finally). However, if I've done 5-6 total wipes; created new users; do not have sharing set-up; have not played around in Terminal; and am up-to-date with versions -- and various issues KEEP COMING BACK -- I am left wondering if a keystroke logger would be possible here?!? I thought maybe a faulty logic board, but why would diagnostics be okay, then? Not trying to be hyperbole, just desperate.
Please help me rule keystroke logger out or at least, tell me so I know, so I can take appropriate action. If you think it could be the logic board with symptoms above, that would be a great too.
All I want to do is use the computer as intended, but I can't seem to get a real answer, so after nine months -- I am turning to the communities to see if anyone -- anyone at all -- can help. The last thing I can do is have the MBPR come back from the depot and the same thing occur. Any guidance or advice would be so gratefully appreciated.

  • Linking between Skype login and microsoft login - ...

    hi
I've created a skype login, then tried to link to my microsoft account, but cant find any command to do that.  In desperation I tried logging out of my sskype account and then loggining back in using my microsoft account, and now I seem to have to totally unrelated accounts.
What have I done wrong?  and how do I link ?
Sorry if its a dumb question, but tearing my hair out here

I probably shouldn't reply, as I'm only taking a stab at this and it's a guess.
But I recently bought a new Windows 8.1 computer, so I had to quickly become familiar with the whole outlook/skype thing. I think upon first registering with Skype, if you don't do it with your Outlook Adress, then they are now separate accounts that cannot be linked. Like, I decided to make a new Skype account with this computer, and in the beginning had the option of using my Microsoft account to make that Skype account. Had I chose a different email address, then they would not be linked.
You'll probably have to use your outlook address to make a NEW Skype ID if you want them to be linked.

  • Database login windows when using DataSet ( CR2008 )

After executing this code, I get a database login window when using a DataSet, wondering why I am asked for user/pwd when using DataSets.

Thanks Jonathan for the tip. I tried it before and after the setDatabaseLogin call yesterday, but got the same results. I'm still going to follow your suggestion because that makes more sense.
Turns out it was the configuration of my ODBC/System DSN that was causing the problem. I reconfigured the System DSN by clearing the check box to provide username/password and now I don't get the Database Login anymore.
I found a different blog post that answered the OLE DB issue I was seeing where the DatabaseName was coming up blank:
    Login Error Database at Runtime
Haven't tried it yet and probably won't because I got the Viewer to work with ODBC the way I like it.
    Thanks for the help!

  • On startup of Mac Mini running OS Mavericks login windows are invisible. Login is possible but there are no white boxes for username and password. Keyboard inputs also do not display.

Mac Mini with 2 Ghz Intel Core i7 running OS X 10.9.1. Recent problem with startup screen where I get a gray startup screen that is blank and does not show the login windows for username or password. Mousing over where they should be does provide a cursor change and I can click into the invisible window and login. Also, I can just type the information and hit enter and login without problems but the keystrokes do not appear either. This is not a big problem if I make sure that I type my login information correctly, but if I make a mistake it can be difficult make sure I am in the right place before I retype. Any ideas why the screen is just gray and does not show the windows? Once I type in the login info in the invisible windows and hit enter the computer starts up, loads finder, and runs without any other noticeable problems.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • X201s does not initiate hibernation on Fn+F12 just goes to login window

Hi! I have an X201s system on Windows 7 64-bit. Hibernation worked when I bought the machine factory-installed. I recently reinstalled the system from original recovery media then installed all updates through Microsoft and Lenovo update, then installed all my software. Now I have the problem that on Fn+F12 (or on selecting Start->Shutdown->Hibernate), the system only blanks the screen, but that's it, it does not even start to try to hibernate, it just sits there, and when I move the mouse I just get to the login window. I am already trough the following steps - Disabling and reenabling hibernation with powercfg -h off / on + reboot - Deinstalling, rebooting and reinstalling Power Management driver and Power Manager (currently running the very latest Power Manager 3.62 and Power Management driver 1.62) - Updating the BIOS to the latest through Thinkvantage toolbox. Power Manager 3.62 solved the gauge disappearing / background gauge monitor crash issue (see elsewhere on this forum), but the hibernation still does not work. Lenovo support only suggested to reinstall from recovery media, but what the heck, that's exactly what I have only so done, and I won't re-install all my software yet another time. I'm a freelancer and time is money, re-installation takes a week's work and this can't be the solution anyway. Does any community member have any further clues as to what I could do to debug the issue? How can I debug which driver or application is having trouble when I press Fn+F12? By the way, Fn+F4 sleep works normally. Best regards, Tobias

Hi, I checked all entries in the Windows event log down to Information level for the time when I pressed Fn+F12 and vor the last re-start before that. Nothing. There were no helpful entries at all during the time of the failed hibernation attempt, and during the last reboot, I only see errors about CdaC15BA.SYS and DgiVecp not being loaded. I should fix this, but i don't think it is related to my hibernation problem!? Best regards, Tobias

What you are seeing is due to non-standard settings for the .css class in your Windows Registry. You can resolve this issue with few simple steps:

  • Finder keeps crashing on login window

    Hi,
I have a 27" 2011 iMac 2.7GHz i5. Running Mavericks 10.9.5. Ever since we had a power outage 3 months ago, my computer has acted awful. Shutting down randomly or when using heavy memory intense programs like photoshop. Ran disk utilities several times to fix issues that would not repair the first few attempts.
I setup Time Machine on an external and that took about a week before I could finally get a complete back up without it restarting during the process.
The problem today is the finder keeps crashing at the login window. So it takes me 10+ tries just clicking on a user to get into a user account. You click on a user icon, then the screen goes white and comes back to login. Sometimes it spins and comes back, sometimes it shows spinning beach ball.
I took the computer to Apple store and they told me I had bad 3rd party ram. The ram has been in it since 2012 with no problems. So, I put new ram in it and it still does the same thing. Oh, and it went blank while I was typing this and back to the login screen. Luckily this site autosaves your post.
I also saw posts to delete finder prefs. That file does not exist in my preferences folder...com.apple.finder.plist, nothing with the word finder shows up in the prefs folder.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • User and password fields vanish in login window

    Hi all
I'm scratching my head. I have a managed 10.7 client, bound to a 10.7 OD, for various testing. Set login window to show user and password text fields. Sometimes (but not always, haven't found a rule yet), there is a little left/back arrow left to the user field. If I click it, user and password text fields vanish, leaving me with a more or less blank login screen except for the restart/shutdown/sleep buttons. Nothing I tried will bring back the text fields, and the only option is to do a restart.
Anyone seen this? What should it be good for?
I thought that maybe this should be something like in Windows, where you have to press ctrl-alt-del to get the actual login screen to show, but neither cmd-option-shift-enter nor cmd-option-ctrl-enter have any effect. Nor does esc or ctrl-option-esc.

Finally got the upgrade rolling again.  Not sure which trick did it, But the last thing i did was this.  I changed the password for the user SAP* using the configtool under cluster-data -> Global server configuration -> services -> comn.sap.security.core.ume.service -> ume.superadmin.password.  Type in the value field, hit "set" and retyped it in again. Hit save, restarted the instance. I had tried this earlier under the single instance server.  But that didn't seem to take effect.

  • Allow network users to login at login window option missing

I hope someone can shed some light on this.
I have bound a 10.6.2 machine to a Windows 2003 domain successfully. However, the checkbox to "allow network users to login at login window" is missing completely. There's a blank space. I've looked at a few other machines that haven't been joined to the domain and the option is missing from there as well.
Am I missing something simple? Did I miss something during the OS install? This is a fresh 10.6.2 install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is keeping us from allowing domain users to log on. Thanks in advance.

I installed ADmitMac and the option shows up. I removed it and the option goes away. There's obviously a flag being set somewhere. Any thoughts?

  • Can't get to login window or my account

    Greetings,
This post concerns my new-ish i7 MBP (early 2011), running 10.6.8.
My normal practice when closing the MBP is to Fast User Switch to the loginwindow, then close the machine to put it to sleep (with my primary user still logged in but the login window showing).
Earlier today I followed that procedure.  I don't recall if I saw the "spinning cube effect" back to the login window.  In any event, some time later, when I opened the machine, the first thing I saw was the "spinning cube effect" to the login window screen.  I entered my credentials but at that point the system did not switch over to my account.  Instead, I received a blank "aurora" wallpaper screen.  I don't recall whether the spinning cube effect preceded that or not.  In any event, I am now stuck in GUI limbo.
Is there any way -- a magic key combo, for example -- to return to either my account (doubtful) or the login screen (somewhat less doubtful) without doing a hard reboot?  (I take it Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn't work... )  Any guesses as to what got me to this unpleasant spot?
    Many thanks.

There's no point in that. Require a password to wake from sleep in the Security preference pane.
I do, and on occasion I do just close the lid, but I prefer the other method.  I got bitten by the password-on-wake screen a couple times before on a previous machine.  That screen refused to accept keyboard input and would go back to sleep within 30 seconds,  requiring -- you guessed it -- a hard reboot.  Once I switched methods I never had another problem.  That, and the fact that the login screen requires you to enter both login and password (the way I have set it) makes that my preference.
I guess that if you close the lid while the rotating-cube effect is playing, the system may hang. You could call that a bug,
Why, yes, I would!  Bear in mind, of course, that the system didn't hang.  Upon awakening, I got the login screen, gave it my credentials, and then I got the blank (aurora) screen.

how can I make sure that my or other's adress ( login names) will not be registered in the login window box?
this is automatic. How to cancel it or delete them??
    Marcus

Unfortunately, it is a feature that can't be disable.  There is a way to delete your name in the dropdown list in the login window. However, it will appear again after your next login (you need to delete it again).
