Skype, Messenger, and your Microsoft Account

I have posted this on the Microsoft forum too but think it's pretty relevant here.
So...
I have Windows Phone 8.1, my partner has WP8.1, she is my contact through her Microsoft account which she also signed into Skype with. We attempted to use the feature of going to a Skype video call from a standard phone call and the Skype button is greyed out...
I then notice she does not have any Skype details in her profile on my phone - only email (her Microsoft account) (which is also her Skype account). So I search for her using her Microsoft email address in Skype and she appears as a non-contact who I have to send a request to!
So now I have her twice in Skype; Once for Skype and once for Messenger!! I tried linking her accounts in her profile on my phone - which then shows her as one contact at outlook.com too - who I can Messenger chat with AND start a Skype call at outlook.com!!
I have repeated this with a friend who was also previously a long time Messenger user that has downgraded to Skype.
None of this was previously an issue as we all still used Messenger and could chat with the now GREATLY missed built in Messenger chat on Windows Phone, but now this has been dropped we are forced to use the depressingly slow and awfully clunky Skype app(s). This is what has brought the cross-app disconnect to light for us.
Why do we now have 2 accounts using the exact same email address? This REALLY needs fixing ASAP.

Hello,
Thanks to
this post @ Microsoft Answers, I was able to make Microsoft Store use correct information of my current country residence.
//The drawback in my case was that I lost the possibility to pay with Paypal, although Paypal supports payments in Russia, and, most importantly, I lost access to US marketplace, all comments/reviews are now in Russian. What a bummer! Honestly, I'd
like to have access to US store... Seems like the only workaround it to switch Home location for the time I purchase an app and change back when the app is purchased.
To change the Country/region data used for Payment and Billing in Microsoft Store,
Press WindowsKey+W to show Start screen and focus on searching in
Settings.
Type 'region' (without quotes) and open Region dialog box when found.
In the Region dialog switch to Location tab and change the country of choice in the
Home location drop-down list.
Click OK to apply changes and make them effective.
Open Store and press WindowsKey+I to show settings charms then choose
Your account.
In the Your account screen click Add payment method to configure your payment settings that will be used for purchasing apps from Windows Store.
Notice Country/region value has changed.
This country will be specified in Country/residence within Payment and Billing in Microsoft Store app.

  • Skip "Sign in to your Microsoft account" (Windows 8.1 Setup)?

I have an RT tablet and updated it to Windows 8.1. The update basically performs the new PC setup. I can't get past the "Sign into your Microsoft Account".
Clicking "Next" does not allow me to proceed (and provides an error hint for an email address). Repeatedly clicking "Next" with no information has not allowed me to bypass the screen (I've tried 20 or 30 times now).
Clicking "Don't have an account" does nothing because its not linked.
The other two options are "Create an account" a "Privacy statement". I don't want to create an account for this tablet, and I'm not interested in Microsoft's perverted terms of service for an account.
In Windows 8.0, we were given the option to use local authentication (if I recall the name correctly). The link was basically hidden, but it was present.
How do I bypass this f**king feature? Or how do I go back to Windows 8.0?

Actually IT IS NOT COMMON SENSE! Common sense would be for Microsoft to use the existing accounts, since it is an "upgrade", without EVER prompting one to do anything else. DUH. Anything less that that is NOT common sense. But the practice of tricking people
into giving up their email address and/or creating/signing in to Win 8 with a "Microsoft" account etc is just plain EVIL!. It is NEVER in the best interest of the user to give out personal info just to use an OS. And for Microsoft to trick people in to doing
so by HIDING the options to avoid it should be criminal. At the very least it is extremely immoral of them to do so. Metro/Start is nothing but a mini monopoly waiting to happen, just like the new Office 365. It should be avoided AT ALL COSTS! By DEFAULT the
ONLY moral option that should be offered by Microsoft is to setup an account that DOES not EVER want to know your real name etc so that ALL web surfing etc is 100% anonymous, so much so that Microsoft can't even tell who you are. Nothing less than that should
be illegal to say the least. But lets face it those powers that be that own our government are not about to let that happen. Heaven forbid they can't track us and spam us at will, not mention making it easy for the NSA to spy on us etc, and Microsoft is not
about to step up and do something to protect their customers form such intrusion.l In fact they want to be in on it so that they can get a cut of the profits. In fact they would like to fix it so that they will get a cut out of ALL the spying and spamming
that goes on on the internet and is one of the main reason they want your email address. HOW DISGUSTING!!!!!
The real correct answer is that Microsoft STOP collecting email addresses and starts recommending that users NEVER give real info when setting up Windows or any other software etc and that they are encouraged to use pseudo names for the account. Never a
real name or email address. NEVER! Anonymity on the web should be guaranteed by MS not the opposite.

  • [Microsoft Store][Profile][Billing] How Do I Change Country/Residence for Microsoft Account? Editing Your Microsoft Account Profile for Microsoft Store. SOLVED: Change Home Location

    Hello,
I am experiencing problems with using my Microsoft Account for billing and purchasing apps in Windows store.
I am using my old WLID that I've created several years ago, and I have obsolete information including my country residence there. Now when I go to
    https://billing.microsoft.com, I see that I have 2 profiles:
    Personal profile: US
    Business profile: Russia.
Now the problem is that I want my personal profile be changed to Russia as well. Having US in the profile makes it impossible to make purchases from Microsoft Store because Store does not allow for changing country when making purchases via PayPal.
    Currently I have this information:
I need the Country/Residence information to be changed to Russia. How do I do that?
    I am stuck.
How do I change country for my Microsoft Account?
If it's not possible, would I be able to continue using my Microsoft Account with old residence/country information while making purchases through a new Microsoft account where I have specified my current residence?
Or is it the same as with Windows Phone 7:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2692008
If yes, do I understand that I have to start all my 'virtual living' from scratch to use Microsoft Store? In other words, do I have to sign-in into Windows 8 with a new Microsoft Account that will have Russia specified as a Country/Region to purchase apps
    from Microsoft Store?
If yes, can I use this new account only for purchasing apps while continuing to use my old account or all purchased apps are strictly tied to this new Microsoft Account I will use for purchasing?
    Thank you.

  • Cannot telnet between windows 8.1 Update computers in a workgroup using NTLM authentiation and a Microsoft account

    Forum,
I have set up telnet on two computers on a non-domain network. I have a user account on both machines linked to the same Microsoft account. My user account isn't an administrator, but I have added my user as a member of the TelnetClients group on the server.
I can connect to the server, but it will not authenticate me. Only NTLM authentication is allowed. When I enable password authentication, it prompts me for my password, and I can successfully log in. I can also successfully log in when I use the
built-in Administrator account and give it the same strong password on both computers. Here is how I'm invoking telnet:
    telnet {target} -l {remote username}
Has anyone gotten telnet working using a Microsoft Account, workgroup computers, and NTLM authentication only?

Hello everyone, I am a young Indian designer. I have used Edge Animate to integrate your facebook account stats in it and with that I have performed an animation which is cool... Checkout that animation @ www.creativemantra.net/kaushiksavla
    correct link updated

I'm watching this thread with intertest, because I am experiencing the same thing with an Edge Animate file brought into my Muse project. Everything previews in browser just fine... works as expected when I publish to Business Catatlyst. But when I export as html and ftp the files to my web host (not Business Catalyst)... everything BUT the Edge Animate animation works as expected. The EA simply does not play, even though it is set to 'autoplay'. A look in the site directory shows the necessary files 'in place'. I'm stumped...

  • Connect MS account instantly fails 0xd0000022 "We're sorry but something went wrong. Your Microsoft account wasn't connected to this domain account"

First. I'll make another post about this but worth mentioning - the dialogue when opening Cortana then having to connect with a MS account is barely usable. The "Next" button is completely black so had to guess that was where to click. When I select
any other window or click outside the dialogue disappears until I hit the Start button, Windows Key or the Cortana/Search button. Makes it near impossible to say copy what is written there when something goes wrong...
Not that MS will care or do anything right?
Anyway. Domain account, no restrictions that I know of from that side (my home/test domain). Attempt to connect MS account and get below literally not even a second later, it's basically an instant failure with the message:
    So what now?

Nevermind, did have GPO there blocking it!

  • Hi, i just bought microsoft student edition and download it, it also downloaded a Microsoft messenger and another microsoft app, i cant delete them, what do i do?

hi, i just bought online  my microsoft mac edition point, word, outlook and excel, with the download came two microsoft apps which i try to delete and i cant delete them, how do i do?

I don't believe you read Victor's question CT.
    Victor,
Anyway, Office comes with an Uninstaller in its Microsoft Office folder found in your Applications folder, if you wish to remove office.   You have to quit all open applications.  command-tab keyboard combination will tell you most things that are open.   Without knowing which Mac OS X version you have, we can't tell you for certain how to tell if other things are running as Apple's utilities have varied across operating system version.   One thing you can do, is reboot the machine in safe mode, holding the shift key down.  This forces memory resident programs not to run.  Then you can simply drag and drop the applications to the trash that don't have an installer.  Be aware though, if you go back to install them, they may not handle it well if a different version was on the machine earlier.

  • Unable to link Skype and Microsoft accounts

I am really confused here.  I haev tried this on Windows, Mac and iOS no matter what I do cannot link my current/old SKype ID with my longtime Microsoft account.  I've followed the KBs poste don this site and I am missing the step where I am offered to link my Microsoft account with my Skype one.  E.g I will reference the iOS guide :
    Logout of existing Skype ID
    Choose login with other account
    Choose Micrsoft account
    Login with Microsoft account
Choose option for "Already using Skype?" <-- This option does not exist for me on any platform
Not sure why this refuses to work - has anyone else seen this?  I had thought initially my Microsoft account TFA (two-factor auth) was throwing this off, and so disabled TFA but still got the same issue.
Then I thoguth that by using one of my aliases for my microsoft account it was not working properly, so I tried the explicit alias I have <username>@outlook.com but that did the same thing.

Ok, I got through the process... of getting back to Skype Community after merging, which is not as easy as it seems. Beware of that! When you merge your accounts, you won't be able to get back to your Skype Community profile due to the merging process that somewhat deletes your "standalone" Skype profile. Your Skype community profile is account-based, not info-based. So even if you will still be using the same Skype name and the same e-mail address, you won't be able to login to your Skype community profile if you created it using your Skype-only account refering to the same e-mail address has your MS one. You will need to create a new Skype community nickname using a completely different e-mail address (like a Gmail or another hotmail, outlook,... that you own). But, doesn't matter if you don't plan to come back to the Skype community, everything else will be fine.
Here's the real stuff! Here are the steps to merge your Skype account with your Microsoft account even if you don't get the prompt asking if you already own a Skype account when logging in with your Microsoft account.
    0. Make sure to log out on any Skype app that could still be connected to the service with either of your accounts
    1. Go to Skype website and login using your Microsoft account
    2. Once on your personal profile page, select "Account Settings" at the bottom of the page
    3. Beside your Microsoft account that is listed on the page, click on "Unlink" and complete deletion process of this "ghost profile" (shouldn't be any contacts saved on this profile if you didn't add any contacts in Skype with your Microsoft account)
    4. Go back to any Skype desktop or mobile app, login using the "Sign in with a Microsoft Account" option
    5. Then, you should be asked again if you own a Skype account, click "Yes", then enter your Skype login information to proceed with the merge.

  • Can't link Microsoft account to Skype account, sam...

I signed up for skype in 2008. Downloaded the app some years later and started using on electronic devices. Bought credit through iTunes. On sept 26th received 3 strange emails from skype telling me that 1. my “skype credit active again,” 2. “currency conversion from USD to EUR was successful,” and 3. “registered email changed to [e-mail removed for privacy and security].” None of these changes were brought on by me so I went about getting my account frozen/released.
In trying to deal with this hacked Skype account, I had to create a Microsoft account. I used the same email tied to the hacked Skype account – [e-mail removed for privacy and security]. When I tried to linking this Microsoft account to my Skype username, it didn’t recognize my password so I reset it. My Skype username didn’t recognize the reset password, only the Microsoft account registered to e[e-mail removed for privacy and security] allowed me to use the reset password.
My question is how can I link the two if I can’t get access to my old Skype account. My “new” Microsoft account uses my old address but now has live:   in front of it, but has none of my old account history, contacts, information etc…I have tried reinstalling the programs on all devices but am never prompted to link accounts as seen in tutorials. Even if I were, I wouldn't be able to sign in to my Skype account.

    Hi Bunais,
Thank you for posting this issue on the TechNet community forums.
From the description I understand that you're having problems switching your local account to a Microsoft account and are receiving the error message: "The password you signed in with is different from your password for your Microsoft account".
    Is this correct?

  • Can't sync anything with my microsoft account and can't create a new one?

    Hi,
I have recently done a software update to Windows 8.1 and now every time I try to access an app it prompts me to sign in to sync my data. I follow the screen prompts using my email address and password (the same as the one I have used to access this forum
so my current working microsoft account) and it says a microsoft account with this email address already exists on this PC.
I get through to the validation code page section, the code is sent to my phone, I enter it, the cloud information page is displayed the switch to microsoft account option appears I click switch and it says an account already exists on this PC???
If  I try to choose the alternative option of creating a new account with the same email address (my main email account) I have the same issue which is an account already exists.
I have lost data and can't sync any music tracks etc - hugely frustrating!
    What do I do??

    Hi,
What's your current User Account? Local Account or Microsoft Account? If local account, please sign out and switch to Microsoft Account. If not, it should have problem with your Microsoft Account, please try to delete it from your system and readd it for
    test.
