Skype: Microphone input won't work

Good evening,
after multiple tests and trying out the error resolving hints I found on the arch forums (with reference to the skype forums) I am still not able to get some input which can be heard by my counterpart.
Here's a screenshot of alsamixer.
I configured Skype to use the default in- and output device, as the alternatives produced in- and output errors.
Do you guys see  possible solution to this problem? I might be blind but I'm rather clueless what to do next.
Thanks in advance for your help
regards,
~cg

I think the microphone should be work. I hear also an little noise, if i push on the microphone with my fingers
KMIx
Alsamixer
An test with audacity also won´t work. Speaker = on but microphone = off.

  • Microphone(s) won't work

A recounting of the problems on http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=342778:
I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 on a Lenovo T500 Thinkpad. I'm experiencing an issue with my microphone input, which is barely detected by Windows or other programs when testing. If I try to apply boost to it, it goes completely nuts with static. Testing in Steam, I practically get static no matter what settings I apply. To sum up: The volume is horribly low, and there's nothing that seems to improve it.
I've tried playing with the Sound Recorder settings to no avail, as well as plugging in three different microphones with the same result: Low, but occasionally decipherable, volume. This suggests that the problem is OS- or hardware-related, and from what I've read on the internet (http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=Vista&thread.id=4300&view=by_date_asc...), Vista seems to be the culprit.
I have no other computer to test the problem on, and people in threads all over the internet can't seem to find a solution to the problem, which, naturally makes for an inconvenient future using Vista. And playing Left 4 Dead.
As it reads in the linked thread, the problem doesn't seem to be with the microphone, as all three microphones (two regular, one being a Logitech, and a clip-on) I've tested suffer from the same to some degree. Vista must be the culprit.
I've tried the suggested reinstalling audio drivers, testing volume and boost levels, and some other weird stuff. No dice.
Another person suggested getting a jack-to-USB converter, as this will have Vista detect the external mic, but it's a hotfix, and an inconvenient one at that.
I had completely forgotten that I have an integrated Lenovo microphone in the laptop, but this doesn't work either - I suspect that this is the microphone always displayed in Recording Devices, though, meaning that the external mics probably aren't even detected at all.
I couldn't be more clueless as to what I might do to remedy this weird problem.
PS: And this time, don't delete my thread without any notice, as you did with my graphics driver thread - please.

Your graphics driver thread wasn't deleted, it just got a new link when the T forum was split into two. Here is the new link.

  • Audio line-in input won't work

    Hello,
have used Garageband several times in the past, and have had no problems setting the input as audio line-in to record my guitar. However, I tried again for the first time in a couple of years the other day and neither my Powerbook or my iMac would allow me to do it. In System Preferences, the audio line-in input option was not in the drop-down menu. I could only choose iSight or built-in microphone.
I don't think it is the mini-jack adapter that I am using that is the problem. It hasn't been damaged as far as I can see and fits in the socket fine. I tried it in the headphones socket and it clicks in place there and registers in the system preferences. Has there been some kind of bug in a recent(ish) update that has killed audio line-in inputs?
Am running Leopard on PowerPc processors. Realise that the tide has turned against these two computers and that they will need replacing in the next year or two.
    Any help massively appreciated ...

Did you see the fix for this problem and did you try it?  I use to do a lot of direct line in recording with my guitar and now I have the same problem. I won't be able to try to fix till tonight. I am in Oregon.  So I was just curious if you got a solution.
Cause I am kind of ****** about this.
    I would appreciate you feedback!
    Thanks

  • Input won't work, Headphone jack's gone mono

A little while back I was doing some home recording running direct into my Macbook.
After doing a bass track I lost all direct input signal and ever since I can only hear the left side through the headphone jack.
The bass player I was recording failed to mention we were running 4ohms out the back of his amp and I think it may have blown my input/output. The internal speakers still work so I think the sound card is fine.
Any insight on this would be wonderfully help full.

yip it sounds like you have fried a circuit..
have u tried different head phones? the input/output should be different circuits so not sure y the output is going funny?
you looked at the input/output settings on the macbook?? what about the "AUDIO MIDI SETUP"?? it may have an inbuilt cutoff that tripped??? well hopping it has for ur sake..
    good luck...

  • Skype 2.8 won't work with Mac OS 10.4.11

I'm using the first gen Macbook Intel running Mac OS X 10.4.11 and I'm trying to install Skype 2.8.  The program downloaded but when I tried to install it, it gave me an error "This version of Skype is not compatible with this version of Mac OS X".  According to Skype's website the minimum requirement is 10.3.  Any help will be great.

Firefox 3.6.28 is the latest version of Firefox that works on 10.4. [[Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.4 or PowerPC processors]] You unfortunately have a PPC processor, so the only way you can use modern software is to purchase a new PC. Or, you can try using [http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/]. But please note that you will be using a community project that may or may not work.

  • Please Help Me - Tascam Input Won't Work on iMac

Hi there! I have a mic hooked into my Tascam and the Tascam is set on the Mac as my sound input. When I sing into the mic, the Mac registers the sound (in the settings area). However, when I go to record a new vocal track in Garageband, I sing into the mic and nothing happens. Do you know what I can do to get Garageband to accept the Tascam input as a track? Thank you so much!!
    Jason

I needed to change the preferences in my Garageband as well as in my System Preferences!

  • Skype microphone stopped working

I am operating OS "X", 10.9.2 on my old iMac.  Last night I downloaded a huge software update from Apple.  Now all of a sudden my Skype microphone out will not work.  Anyone having this problem or know how to fix this?  Again, I can hear and see the party I'm connected to, they just can't hear me. I called Skype to make a test call and my voice did not get recorded in the test.

Answering my own question. On one of my machines the problem turned out that Skype could only use my microphone if it was the only input device enabled under PulseAudio. While other apps would happily use whatever sound input available, Skype seems to have been confused when faced with any kind of choice. The solution was to disable all other audio inputs and to speficially set my external USB mic as the sole input. In addition I had to change the setting for Built-in Audio from Analog Stereo Duplex to Analog Stereo Output.
I wasn't so lucky with my laptop, where I'm using the internal microphone and therefore can't change the Built-in Audio settings (it needs to be set as Duplex for the mic and speakers/headphones to work). Because of this I'm now unable to use Skype on my laptop. As a result I'm now exploring the possibility of using SIP/XMPP voice and video with an open source client, which is too bad given I've been a Skype user/customer for so many years.

  • Audio Inputs no longer work after upgrade to 10.4.10

Anyone else having trouble with audio inputs after upgrading to 10.4.10? Here's my deal:
MacPro dual 2.66, 4GB RAM, running 10.4.10 as of this morning.
Upgraded to 10.4.10 today and the mic on my Plantronics USB headset quit working. 'Phones still work. Here's what I did:
    1. Tried multiple audio input devices. None work.
    2. Tried all USB ports, problem persists.
    3. Tried the 1/8" audio input, problem persists.
    4. Zapped PRAM, problem persists.
    5. Called AppleCare and they had me do an Archive and Install on the system software, which installed 10.4.7 and the problem went away. Then, at their suggestion, I let Software Update reinstall 10.4.10 and the problem came back.
    6. Rebooted the system from a 2nd internal drive running 10.4.9 and the problem went away.
Seems pretty clear to me that this issue is with the OS, yet Apple's support staff insists the problem is "with the data on my boot drive". Thing is, the data on the "problem" boot drive consists of exactly the same applications on the other drives, and only those applications. There ** is no ** data on the boot drive other than the OS and some applications. Yet the other drive I can boot from that runs 10.4.9 and doesn't cause audio input issues contains all sorts of junk.
So, to reiterate, I'm booting from a clean boot drive with nothing but OS 10.4.10 and some pro applications on it and the audio input won't work. I boot from into any other Mac OS on this drive or any other and all is well. Yet this problem is supposedly with my data?
Is anyone else out there seeing issues like this?

I used a UVC-compliant USB Logitech camera (the
    Fusion) driverless
    under OS X 10.4.9.
FWIW, none of these devices are actually driverless. They rely on drivers either supplied separately by some company (not necessarily the vendor of the product) or bundled into the OS. Usually, the bundled drivers are based on open standards like UVC mentioned in the link. Apple writes a lot of the bundled driver code itself but some of it comes from outside sources like LSI or Intel.
An unfortunate fact of life is that open standards are not always as well defined as they ideally should be. Another is that certain companies sometimes set their own standards that aren't quite compatible with open ones, sometimes to implement real or imagined improvements on an open standard, sometimes to gain a marketing advantage.
The good news is that the market usually -- eventually -- favors the open standard. The bad news is that it often takes some time for this to happen, leaving users -- particularly Mac users, who still represent a smaller market force than those using Windows -- without a solution for an uncomfortably long period of time.
Your best or only recourse for now may be to downgrade to 10.4.9 until this gets resolved, but you should also take into account that not all users are having these problems so it may be something other than the update itself that is causing the problem. I just video chatted with a colleague using an Intel Mac mini who is having no problems whatsoever -- we are both puzzled why he is unaffected while others are.
Sorry this couldn't be of more help.

  • My microphone won't work in a skype call

My mic won't work at all when I make a call. I've tried multiple times but it just refuses to work for me.

I took it to the apple store and it was determined to be a mechanical problem. Since I had apple care, they replaced the phone.

  • External microphone won't work on Macbook Pro

My external microphone won't work on my Macbook Pro.
My mic is an SE2200 A, and I'm pluggin that into a Behringer Eurorack UB802 (with Phantom power). This is then connected to a 1/4 inch to 3.5mm adapter so I can plug it into my Macbook Pro.
If I plug this directly into my Macbook Pro into the headphone socket (which I've been told doubles up as a mic socket), and go to Settings -> Sound -> Input, the mic does not appear on screen at all.
If I plug it into a 3.5mm to USB adapter, and plug it into a USB port on my mac, then the USB PnP Sound Device appears on the Settings -> Sound -> Input, but no sound is picked up.
Could any suggest why this isn't working?
    thanks

You have to use a cable that will break out the 3.5 mm TRRS jack into mic, L, and R.
I haven't found the right wiring yet and the cables I have tried don't seem to work.
See this post: What is the wiring digram on the MacBook Pro 3.5 mm TRRS jack?
