Skype mobile charges when overseas

i have skype on my mobile in Australia.  when i go to the USA and use skype then will it work with my Australian SIM card and what charges will i incur?  i.e. do i need to buy a SIM in the USA to avoid international charge rates?

Hi.  Skype does not relate to your SIM card.
Skype uses your mobile phone's mobile data internet (not the SIM card).
If you use your Aussie SIM card in the U.S., you will probably be charged
"roaming" charges for using your SIM card overseas, if you make calls
from your mobile phone in the U.S. . . . . . and . . . . you will get high charges
for using mobile phone data in the U.S. with your Aussie SIM card.
You will need a SIM card in the U.S. to get mobile calls and mobile internet data
at local U.S. prices without the international "roaming" charges.
So, to use Skype with mobile internet data, you will not want to pay international
costs using your Aussie SIM card.
To use Skype on your mobile phone, I suggest to see how much a U.S. mobile
SIM costs and U.S. mobile data charges etc., then you can use Skype in the U.S.
to call home in Australia at local calling costs without the international
roaming charges.
Don't forget, if you use a U.S. SIM with mobile data in the U.S., you can have Skype
running on your mobile and this will allow people in Australia (or anywhere in the world) to call from their Skype to your Skype on your mobile phone . . .  for free.

  • Using Skype to Go when overseas

Can anyone else please tell me how best to use Skype to Go when overseas. I live and have my Skype account in the US, but travel to the UK frequently. When I was last in the UK, I tried to use Skype to Go, it worked fine, and the cost of the Skype calls were low, but I was hit for roaming charges by my carrier which were really high and I might just as well have dialed directly without using Skype.

  • SKYPE PREMIUM CHARGES WHEN CALLING MOBILES

    Hi,
I have skype premium with unlimited calls to mobiles and landlines phones to France.
However, I am still getting charged when calling cellphones (I am getting charged on my skype credit)
Here is my skype name: jonathan.quirin1
You guys claim that by getting skype premium I have unlimited calls (mobile and landlines) toward any of the country in the list.
Why am I still getting charged?

    canadian_sam1 wrote:
I think that there is a connection charge fee for the operator , or some thing like that.
I have a same account from Canada to hungary and I get charged connection fee.
I know that wont help your problem but??
I wish there was a better help online from Skype.
    regards
    Sam
If Hungary is your selected country for telephone calling with Skype Premium, the subscription only covers calling to landline phones.  Click on "Skype Premium" below and then expand the list of countries you can choose from when calling telephones.  Only 4 countries have calling for both landline and mobile phones covered (USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore).
You would need to either purchase Skype Credit or a country-specific subscription that also covers calling to mobile phones in that case (click on "Subscriptions" below to see the options for Hungary, or other countries).  When using Skype Credit to pay for calls to telephones, there is a connection fee charged per call along with the per-minute rate.  This is detailed on the "Pay As You Go" link below.

  • Skype Mobile

When I first got my Curve I inadvertently refused phone access when setting up Skype Mobile. When I tried to reverse that, the app wouldn't let me go any further.  I tried to remove the app and reinstall it through the desktop software, as I thought it would only remove the app from my Blackberry.  Turns out, it removed the app option from the desktop software, as well.  Can anyone help me get it back?
    Thanks

    ok, cool.

  • Skype mobile showing as Invisible even when I'm on...

My Skype mobile version indicates me as Invisible even though I'm actually online. All my contacts are showing as offline and messages are not coming through. Any idea what the problem is?
PC version is fine this problem is only with Skype mobile.

I'm having the same issue with my PC version, but not the mobile version.
I'm only posting here because it's the closest post I could find to my problem, and Skype customer service appears to be impossible to access directly. I've found many posts of people that just get stuck in a loop, and then the Skype rep posting on that board just gives a link to the same loop. It's insanity.
If I don't find a solution in the next couple of days I'll (attempt to) cancel my account and start using a different IM service.

  • Does Skype always charge MORE EXPENSIVE of 2 overl...

Have 2 subscriptions to the same destination. First (cheaper) for landlines and Second (more espensive) for landlines and mobiles.  Based on FAQ below I expected landline subscription is used for landlines and landline + mobile for mobiles at least until one of them exausted.
However when I call landline I'm crarged minutes from the Second (landline and mobile) subscription.  So I cannot use my landline only subscription until landline+mobile is exausted and then Skype will charge me pay-as-you go rate for calls to mobile.
Is that how that supposed to work? Then either I miss something in the statement from Skype website below or this statement is misleading:
If I have more than one subscription that covers calls to the same country, which one is used when I make a call?
Skype is pretty clever about using the subscription that’s best for you. It ranks your subscriptions and uses them in this order:
By minute rate – lowest rate (i.e. cheapest) ranks first
By plan type – unlimited* ranks first, and limited ranks second
By next monthly minutes reset date – nearest ranks first

Any response to this from Skype? This is pretty phony practice IMHO.  Sure, couple of dollars stollen by Skype this way does not validate any serious action from single customer besides just stopping being fooled by this subscriptions scam.  But I hope that some class action lawyers monitor these forums.

  • Skype Mobile disconnecting since 2.3.3

Skype Mobile has always been a little flakey around the edges, but in general works as long as wifi is not enabled and 3G is strong. Since my Droid X upgraded to Android 2.3.3 five days ago I have noticed that Skype Mobile keeps signing out - basically going into the same state as when there is no signal. Even though the app shows on the notification bar, when I launch it, it goes through the auto log in sequence, connecting, etc. Other times I find it "reconnecting".
My wild guess was this is to do with Android 2.3.3 battery management where it "sleeps" the phone more than the previous version, but it is happening when the phone is on charge too.
I'd be way happier to use the Android Skype app, but it doesn’t support Bluetooth so is not practical when driving
    Any suggestions?

Thanks, that's a fairly accurate description, and you don't need to have any real traffic on the phone to get the effect, it'll happen just sitting there with all the bars on 3G.. I should have been more clear, Skype Mobile worked fine (as long as I didn't start a wifi connection with weak 3G) on the Droid X for months. I've spent hours driving and chatting, but after the Android 2.3.3 upgrade about 2 weeks ago it is logging out, shows me offline, etc, pop the app and it logs in again.
One of the confusing things is that it does it on charge and if I set the battery to full power too..
So, I think there's an issue with the current version of Skype Mobile and Android 2.3.3, might be worth the VZW support people taking a look at it
btw for those who think skype is all video, not so, it works pretty well for international calls, and the cool thing about the mobile version is it will work through a bluetooth headset, very handy for driving

  • Settings on iPhone to avoid charges when travelling question about carrier

    Hi
Want to check setting  on iPhone to avoid charges when travelling on iPhone 5 .
I have googled but still wanted to check as I only want to use wifi and with air plane mode I actually recovered a text message which led me to think I was not fully disabled for travelling and avoiding cost so I make the following additional changes but wanted to ensure nothing was missing.
    1.  Enable airplane mode
    2.  Then Settings - cellular data - off
I noticed that under Settings that Carrier is still set as Automatic and on.  Should this be off?
    Please clarify, thank you

Based from my carriers for my country, to be able to connect to an overseas carrier (to receive calls or sms from your home country) it can be enabled by contacting the carriers; with or without a charge.
Then, the carrier can be set to automatic/ON (connects to an overseas carrier automatically that is prefered by your home country's carrier) or OFF (choose the respective carriers that you prefer).
It is still best to switch off the cellular data when you're overseas.
    Just a precaution:
    Go Settings > Mobile/Cellular > Data Roaming > OFF
Data Roaming: Uses mobile data when you're connected to an overseas carrier (heavy charges apply).
    Hope it helps.

  • Why Mobilicity charges BIS for Blackberry 10 OS?

    Hello,
I have data plan with Mobility Canada, when I changed from Android to Blackberry, the data doesn't work.  I called my carrier a few times, they all told me the samething, they need to set up BIS for my phone, but when I explained to them that the 10 OS doesn't require BIS, they are clueless but insist to charge me extra to get it work.
Blackberry claimed that it will work with normal data plan, why it doesn't allow the user to change/update the APN instead let the carrier charge the user for a fee to fix it?  Or even automatically update with whatever APN that works with the carrier?

    Mobilicity wrote back to me:
"We are sorry that your were misinformed.
Mobilicity does not charge an additional cost for BlackBerry internet service for the BlackBerry Z10. If you purchase a third party BlackBerry Z10 you would be charged for the first month only."
I hope that explains things. If not, their number is 1-877-866-2458.
    Cheers.

  • Iphone 3g not recognized by computer(s). Windows 7. Charges when plugged into wall, but not PC's. Also not listen in Device Manager. I have hard reset/soft. reinstalled itunes after clean wipe. went through services... help! Windows 7

Hello all. My system is Windows 7 64bit. In the past my phone worked just fine, plug it into a usb slot, synced up, updated... but for months now it has not worked. Other Iphones will not work on this PC either with their corresponding cables. But my Iphone will also not work when plugged into other computers.. it will not show up at all.. no charge.. no itunes... no drivers show up in Device Manager. My phone works just fine when plugged into the wall with it's cable.. charges fine everything works.. but it will not charge when plugged into a computer.
So far... I have uninstalled everything related to apple... ran ccleaner.. fixed registry errors. Reboot PC, reinstall all itunes and apple components (all latest software) and nothing.
I have gonet o services and stopped and started apple mobile device. It is set to automatic.
I have hard reset the phone and soft reset it.
The cable obviously works. The Phone works when plugged into the wall.
Other Iphones will not work on my pc, nor will my iphone work on theirs
I have disabled windows firewall along with my Comodo Defense Plus and it's firewall. I have disabled my AV. I have scanned with ad aware plus, Avast, ran hijack this and fixed registry errors. Ran Ccleaner.
My device manager does not have anything related to apple in it.. I have no idea why. My Device Manager has no portable devices detected at all and does not recognize anything related to the phone.
    Core 2 duo 6600
    2gigs of ram
    Windows 7 64 bit
I have checked all the tech support stuff I can find. I am desperate. Apple will not help me on the phone without charging me 30$.

Also.... my phone works and can do everything fine when not plugged in.. I just can't get my computer or others to recognize the darn thing when plugged in!

  • Skype Mobile Global Issue

While traveling in the UK, after successfully using Skype Mobile to contact Skype parties back home in the US, I began today to encounter a message from Verizon Wireless (my carrier) when I tried to use the application that said, "Skype mobile can only be used on Verizon Wireless in the US..."  This is strange since  both Skype and Verizon advertise this as a free service.  Anyone experiencing such a problem that they have solved, or have an explanantion for?
The only recent change to the device was downloading and using the new Twitter for BlackBerry application, which required a reboot.  I have reloaded/replaced the Skype software.  I may try deleting and reinstalling the software. as well.

    Hi BrandonSHall,
I have make it work permanently :) tested by restarting system :), given below steps will help you to set Skype for bushiness even it's disabled by Admin or you are on Lync server 2013.
    1) Open registry --> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Lync\EnableSkypeUI
    change value from 0000  00 00 00 00 to 0000  00 00 00 10.
    2) now go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Lync --> right click --> permission
--> click on add --> deny "everyone" --> apply -->
Now restart your system and check.  steps are funny but this will work for everyone.
    please check and revert.

  • Skype Mobile for DROID X **NOT** VoIP!

I am a little dismayed that Skype Mobile for my DROID X is NOT a Voice-over-IP enabled app but only works over VZWs CDMA 3G signal!  I travel internationally and had not heard that Skype Mobile worked any other way than over WiFi technology.
If anyone at Verizon is reading this, I have two questions that beg an answer:
Why did Verizon go with a CDMA version of Skype Mobile rather that allowing it to use WiFi VoIP technology?  and
Will Verizon offer me the option to actually use my DROID X internationally in markets that don't have CDMA (most don't)?
I am here in Germany on business unable to use my DROID for anything useful without some sort of CDMA 3-G connection...

Honestly, you bought a CDMA only phone that has no advertised "Global" features.  Yet you are complaining that it won't work overseas?
The Droid X is a CDMA only device.  And as such is not a Global device.

  • Skype payment failed? skype auto charged 3 days la...

So for whatever weird reason I got a message on August 18th that my skype subscription payment had failed. It's a $2.99 payment and my bank balance on my visa check card was way more than $2.99 at the time. I did nothing at the time and then on August 22nd skype auto charged my same bank account again and my bank shows that I was charged $2.99. BUT when I log into skype today it says my account is ending in 9 days?? Why is it ending if you got my $2.99 on August 22nd???
ALSO the number I had with skype no longer works??? It is still listed on my desktop skype interface but when I call it I get an error message... AND when I call from it to my cell phone it is a totally different number that I have never seen before and is a totally different area code etc. ???
I wish Skype had real customer service and didn't make me have to post on a forum about this.

Hello and welcome to the Skype Community!
    1. You may have received the message in error. Your account shows that the $2.99 payment on August 18th 2014 successfully purchased a further one month"s Unlimited USA/Canada Subscription.
    2. Your last order for this was for 3 months coverage on December 17th 2011. The Number has since been returned to the "pool".

  • Skype Mobile - no audio

    Hi
I have the blackberry tour (I think - the black one that looks like the curve but has a rollerball, not the World) and downloaded the Skype application.
Calls come in correctly and another Skype user has even successfully left me a voicemail which I could hear. But when I answer the call, or place the call, I can't hear any audio and she can't hear me.
When I installed the app it asked questions about "sockets." I wonder if that is where I screwed up.
When I called Verizon Wireless, even though  the phone is marketed as "skype ready," they said they had never heard of skype for blackberry. They had to google how I could even download the app. I see in this forum some folks know about it so I am hopeful to get answers. This is why I bought this phone!
Thx in advance for any help.
    E

The Tour is Skype mobile capable.  Are you signed into skype mobile at the time you are getting a call? Here are the steps to sign in.
From the Home screen, press the Menu button then select Skype Mobile.
If not available, navigate Home screen > Downloads.
Enter the Skype name and password then select Sign in.
If the password is forgotten, refer to www.skype.com for assistance receiving a new password code.

First off, are you on a Verizon or an Alltel plan?  With that what PRL is your phone using?
I wonder if you were connecting to a former Alltel tower that somehow still thinks it an Alltel tower or your phone thought it was an Alltel tower.  Either way the Skype app could have not gotten the right message or code that "Yes, you are on Verizon.  Please continue connecting".  BTW There is no basis to this thought just past experience with issues with merged areas.
If anything , I hope this give you some ideas.
