Skype No sound! [SOLVED
Hi Arch forum.
I've got a IBM R51 with 0.7.1 Noddle on it. I've found out that in AUR there was a package that contained Skype. That I have a lot of friends around the world, I installed that package.. Without any problems.
But whan I tried it - I have a problem.. There's no sound while using skype..
Normally I have Alsa installed and my sound is working great. Is there any way to solved that problem..
I've also tried to put my headset on the machine - but with the same result..
Have anybody any ideas about solving this problem????
Thanks
Peque

[SOLVED] Skype notification sound breaks sound in totem
The problem is as follows:
When skype plays his notification sound, sound volume in totem is going down to zero. When skype notification sound is finished, totem volume is back. I can distinctly see this process in the last tab of gnome sound settings.
I use the following softwate:
# pacman -Qqs alsa
alsa-lib
alsa-plugins
alsa-utils
gnome-alsamixer
lib32-alsa-lib
lib32-alsa-plugins
pulseaudio-alsa
# pacman -Qqs gstreamer
clutter-gst
gnome-video-effects
gstreamer0.10
gstreamer0.10-bad
gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins
gstreamer0.10-base
gstreamer0.10-base-plugins
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
gstreamer0.10-good
gstreamer0.10-good-plugins
gstreamer0.10-ugly
gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins
perl-gstreamer
totem
# pacman -Qqs pulse
lib32-libpulse
libao
libcanberra-pulse
libpulse
pulseaudio
pulseaudio-alsa
I have no extra configurations for any of this packages. All packages are up to date.
The problem is only between skype and totem. Skype doesnt conflict with gmusicbrowser, flash players.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Last edited by evaliauka (2012-06-30 11:01:22)Hi,
I have actually the same problem, but apparently pulseaudio has changed since the last solution above because my file /etc/pulse/default.pa is not the same.
There is no longer module-cork-music-on-phone module, and load-module module-role-cork is already commented out.
Does someone have the same issue? Is there another solution?
Thanks in advance! -
Skype ring sound comes from earpiece
Hi everyone,
On my Nexus 5, when the phone is locked, skype ringing sound comes through the earpiece instead of the loud speaker. Most of the times I am missing calls because of this. Any solution for this?
Skype Version: 5.0.0.52727Hi, I had the same problem and now i fixed it.
I am using Sony M2 aqua with sony smartwatch that means my bluetooth is always on. You should change the mood of Bluetooth from your skype. When you are calling someone from skype (when it is ringing), Bluetooth icon will appear right beside of camera and mic icons. Then you should tap it and change the icon to out load mood icon. It will work out again and you can hear call from speaker on the bottom. I crosschecked with receive and dealing calls while Bluetooth was off, it was working too. -
[SOLVED]cmus && skype no sound
Hello,
I'm experiencing quite the issue with my laptop(Asus N53SV, i3-2310M model). Cmus gives me the annoying "Error: opening audio device: internal error" and with skype I only have "Virtual Device" in the device lists. I noticed this happening a couple of days after an update so I rolled back root(had a backup made with rsync the day before the update). I've tried stopping/starting the daemon, fiddling with "/usr/lib/systemd/system/fluidsynth.service", "/etc/libao.conf" aswell as reinstalling both the programs and pulse/alsa to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Robert

Windows 8.1 skype no sound thru headpnones
after upgrading to windows 8.1, sound in my headphones when using skype calling is not working ( when making phone calls thru skype) I hear the voice in my laptop speakers but not in my headset. can you help, anyone with similar problem?
my system is a HP Pavilion g6-2249 wm notebook pcSince sound works everywhere else properly, it is probably a setting within Skype that needs to be changed. These aren't specific to Windows 8.1, but it might give you an idea of what to look for:
How do I configure Skype to work with a new headset, microphone or speakers?
How do I use my USB phone or headset for Skype calls and my loudspeakers for all other audio in Skyp...

Hi,
My integrated audio line outs have been mute since I got my mother board four months ago. I finally managad to solve the problem. It was a loose jumper in a front panel audio connector on the motherboard. You couldn't notice it by naked eye. MB didn't redirect sound back from the front panel connector to the integrated line outs. Hammering the jumper obviously solved the problem.
Now, I need to get ICH5 and Maxtor Diamondmax SATA play together =)
Mikko OhtamaaGood Find .........And Good Luck on trying to get those two(Maxtor S-ATA) and the ICH5 to play well together, As last I heard they were still Fighting ........Maybe a Patch for the S-ATA Drives is in the Works ..........Sean REILLY875

Calling my skype number: sounds like modem, fax
When I got my US subscription and skype number, I tried calling it from another phone (att cell phone, and tried my work land line) to test it out and skype doesn't ring... It is just a weird modem, fax sound coming from the headset of the other phones. I do not even get a voicemail message from my skype number after the strange 'rings.'
I am using skype on my ipad mini. It is the latest app, too. I have tried calling when The ipad is connected to 4g and from my home wifi. I cannot receive any calls, ipad app does not ring.
Can still receive a skype to skype call, though. What's going on?RoseRobin wrote:
Hi I wanted to see if my skype number worked. I tried calling it from my land line from my house in France. I got an auto message saying the number is invalid. I tried with and without the national code. Please let me know how my friends and family can call my Skype number. I'm traveling starting from Oct 1 in Mexico, and I would like it to work before I go. Thank you.

I sound like a robot in Skype, but sound perfectly...
Hi! So this is my first time having this problem. I have a Logitech USB headset. When I do a free voice call, I sound like a robot! It has really bad quality like there's a little background noise. My internet connection seems fine because my computer literally sits next to my router. Is there any way to solve this problem so I can be able to call my friends? Thanks!
Hi,
Are you hearing this only in World of Warcraft?
What about music and movies, are you hearing this too?
Try a different game, that should tell you if it's the game or something else. -
Skype Robotic Sounds & Voice Delay Problems
Hi
I've recently downloaded the latest version of Skype. Although others can hear me very clearly (and have no problems with other Skype users) the sound on my side comes through as garbled and robotic noises.
Any idea what steps I can take to try and troubleshoot this? My internet connection is fine and I have no other programmes running in the background.
Thanks
NickHi all,
I am having a similar problem with my Mac Air computer... Sometimes, when I run the skype and try to talk with someone, the person that is trying to hear me cannot... My voice appear as a robotic and Its impossible to have a conversation... The other person cannot hear anything that I am trying to say... At the first time I thought is a memory problem... But without a background program and anything, the problem continues...
Could someone help me on it?
Thaks a lot. -
After I run skype I am unable to get sound out of flash (youtube, gmail chat notifications, etc).
I recently decided to branch out from my simple openbox setup and I'm still a bit lost in kde. I've read multiple threads and have tried both phonon-mplayer and phonon-xine, currently using alsa. Any ideas? Is it the case of http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/All … Play_Sound or it's just Skype misbehaving?

Received new Kindle Fire 8.9 HD Skype no sound
I received a Kindle Fire HD and can't Skype since the sound doesn't work in this new version. How do I get the old version? Don't say cloud since I didn't have one before now.<br>This was the main reason behind this gift was to be able to Skype. Please help. I've tried removing the app and installing. No good.
I have no sound either but I do have a page of code. This is why I bought this for skype and small things and it was a refurb which usually is a better buy!Sherry.lynn wrote:

Gaim-Skype ANooying problem- SOLVED
Hello Everybody,
I 've just migrated from debian to arch.
And i am impressed with the speed of arch.
Very very nice
I've solved much much greater problems than this curently(k3b,digikam+canon,my scaner, kernel recompile) but this one i cannot solve.
With debian when i closed the gaim or the skype window, the program won't be terminatedm instead it would be put with a nice icon next to the time in gnome-panel.
In arch, when i'm closing this programs.. they are terminated... And i have to keep them constantly runing in the "taskbar".
Is there any solution?
I've searched in the forum with no resault
:xWell.. Sorry for the disturbence everybody
Problem solved!
I've just had to put add a new gnome panel tha shows the notifications icons..
The gaim and skype programs where not terminated.. there where runing in the background.. i just had no way of bringing them back
Sorry again, -
New install from ftp and cd no sound SOLVED
Hi,
I've done everything I can find to get sound on this new ftp install but can't get sound to work with the 2.6.23 kernel.
I've updated a couple of other systems to the new kernel and it has kept sounds working fine but not this new install. I've unmuted everthing and raised levels etc.
modprobe .conf has this from running alsaconf
# --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
# --- ALSACONF version 1.0.15 ---
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
Please can you give me some tips. I've a feeling it's something silly I've not got quite checked off right in alsamixer.
/etc/rc.d/alsa start is done and alsa is in my rc.conf daemons.
Thanks
Regards
edit;
I've done another install from cd this time and said no to update to kernel 2.6.23 so now I've got 2.6.22 and sound still does not work. I've done many Arch installs before and never had this problem. what could I have overlooked? xmms with streamtuner is receiving signal but no sound. No system sounds either.

Though i noticed in the volume mixer, i now have 2 devices, which i don't think i had before...
Usually i'd have my webcam or usb headset plugged in, but they're not atm, just my soundcard. -
Xbmc-standalone no sound [SOLVED]
Hi All,
I have re-installed my media box and decided to go standalone this time instead of using a window manager.
Everything has installed fine except when stock standard xbmc plays music/video there is no sound.
Alsa libs is installed but alsaplayer also does not play anything .... what am I missing?
I have made sure that pulseaudio is not installed as I have heard issues with that ... how do I get ALSA to play?
Is there a way to check devices and if they are muted?
Thanks,
B.
EDIT: I found I had to unmute the IEC958 output (optical coax) by the command "amixer set 'IEC958' 100 unmute"
Now at least I have system sounds ... i.e I get the clicking sounds while navigating the menu items, but still get no sound
when playing music/videos etc. XBMC complains about: "cannot initialize output device"

What's the output of
aplay -L
Have you unmuted the everything relevant in alsamixer?
Have you set up the audio output in XBMC's settings? (System --> Settings --> System --> Audio Output)
