Skype on Chromebook

I have seen a couple topics that have already discussed this, but I am really looking for a response from Microsoft. I need to know if Microsoft has any plans to release a version of Skype compatible with Chrome OS. My parents are divorced and my dad doesn't have any computers with Windows OS--he only has Chromebooks. And I use Skype everyday for business, so half of the week I cannot get in contact with anyone for business.
I hope Microsoft understands that they need to start listening to their community and partner with Google to create a Chrome OS application, therefore pleasing the users whom have asked for this since Chromebooks were released. Thank you.

I think the above answer is being disingenious. In 2013, Chromebook sales amounted to 21% of all notebook sales (source: http://bgr.com/2013/12/31/chromebook-sales-growth-2013 ). Estimated at about 2.1 million units (source: http://www.zdnet.com/abi-research-states-chromebook-shipments-reach-2-1-million-for-2013-7000027944/ ). Hardly insignificant! ABI Research, cited in the source link, forecasts an increase of annual growth rate to 28 percent and reaching 11 million shipments in 2019! (source: http://www.zdnet.com/abi-research-states-chromebook-shipments-reach-2-1-million-for-2013-7000027944/ ).
Although there are other options out there for the Chromebook video conferencing (e.g. Google+), I think that the Chromebook is here to stay and that Skype ignores it at their peril!

Skype for Web on chromebook

Hi!
When can we expect to see a working version of skype for web on the Chromebook? The only solution to running skype on it currently is either a (crappy) third party app/website or installing the android version which, to be blunt, is badly optimized and kills the chromebook in terms of battery life and RAM/processing power.

I'd been looking for a way to get Skype on my 2-year-old Samsung Chromebook for a looooong time. Lots of posts, either requiring installation of another OS, Ubuntu, or very complicated instructions that were beyond my capabilities, or that just didn't work. I was so frustrated, because I really need Skype to work on my Chromebook, which I love totally. This Skype glitch has been the only problem. (I do some volunteer video language tutoring, and some students haven't been able to get Google Hangouts to work on their computers.)
I did not give up, but kept Googling, and several weeks ago found this post that actually worked, and had instructions I could figure out pretty easily:

There were some minor differences, but nothing I couldn't figure out pretty easily. So anyway, I installed it and have been using it successfully for about three weeks with no problems. I have made regular phone calls, sent text messages, and conducted several long video calls, including sending multiple texts to the other person. All worked perfectly.
So I'm a happy camper. I just wish Microsoft and/or Google would get off the stick and have a Skype extension available right from the Chrome appstore. This little competition thing is ridiculous.
Hope this helps someone else. I posted here months back, but nobody seemed to have a solution that worked for me. For those of us with the inexpensive Chromebooks, it's not an attractive option to take up so much memory to install a second OS. I know Google is working towards making it easier to install Android apps on Chromebooks. But it still irks me that I can easily download and nstall Skype on my Kindle and my phone, but not on my Chromebook!

I did too and am very disappointed.

I, too, would like a web-application for Skype functionality. The problem, is that for full web-app functionality, the browser would have to support HTML5 elements, and unfortunately, now that Microsoft owns Skype, don't hold you breath. The same company that owns now Skype is the same company that makes Internet Explorer - and if there are any other web developers here, they know, too, that Internet Explorer isn't exactly 'cutting edge'. HTML5's getUserMedia() would surely support using the webkit browser - Chrome - to grab the user's microphone and/or webcam, and Chrome supports web sockets, so, what's the problem?
Politics. Why would Microsoft want you to use Skype on a Google product, and why would Google want you to use Skype when they have Google Talk / Hangouts? As usual, the consumer gets screwed.

Can I use Face Time to husband's skype?

Mother broke her hip in TN. I will need to be there perhaps months. I need to video chat with my husband at home. I have iphone and ipad, husband does not? He has HTC Rhyme and computer, also Chromebook. Can anyone help me out? Suggestions? Thank you.!

FaceTime only works with iOS devices. Use Skype... there are Skype apps for both iOS and Android.

When installing Skype, I get error 2001

Every time I try to installing Skype, I get the iTunes error 2001 (not very helpful at all)!
The message push-up after I push the "Get App" button.

Thank you for responding. I'm experiencing the same runaround. I don't know which Illustrator link to click, and the one I did click wound up giving me the same error message. I think the problem is I need to download it to the Cloud or to Google Drive. I don't seem to have an option for where Illustrator can be downloaded. I read on the Chromebook website that there is no hard drive on a Chromebook, that everything needs to be downloaded and retrieved to/from the Cloud. I need CS6 Illustrator and also need Adobe Photoshop for my class.
When I tried downloading I also noticed I was in an area for people who haven't paid. How do I download it as part of my subscription?
If downloading to the Cloud is possible, how do I access and retrieve programs downloaded to it?

Unable to redeem free skype minutes

Hello all,
My accoutn got hacked a some time ago. I reseted my password but my account is blocked. Recently I subscribed to office 365 and wanted to redeem my free skype minutes. But I cant since my account is restricted.
I filled out the verification form 10!!!! times. Gave them my email adress, registration date of my account, more then five contacts in my list, and still im getting the automated email to fill out the verification form over and over again.
The funny thing is I could link skype to my microsoft account. But I cant unlink it now.... Im totally screwed. Mycrosoft wont help me unlink my account, they say only skype can do it. So I cant delete, unlink skype and I cant register a new account for my two used email account.
Im so pissed, I could even send my ID cant to support but no. Still they cant verify my identity. This is aboslutely ridicules. Im stuck and cant do anything...

Hi Jersh,
On the Chromebook you should be able to go to http://drive.google.com/redeem and it will validate and add it to your google account.
There are a few restructions such as 1 per account but they'll have that spelled out on the site.

Partial Emergency Solution for skype chat on iPhone

install the Puffin Browser on your iPhone then try the web beta for Skype- works for conversations and IS IN SYNCH! No voice or video however. if you don't know about Puffin you are in for a treat- it supports websites needing FLASH by offloading functions to a big server. Peter in Arlington VA.

I am going to keep the skype web address in my iPhone Puffin bookmark for the next time the regular skype for iphone goes bonkers! it is a good emergency backup. No voice or video but I get messages just fine and reliably. I also tried the web beta on my chromebook and it is fantastic - have been waiting years for this and it was worth the wait. Thanks

Yoga tablet 2 pro microphone does not work with Skype or Google+ hangout

I have a new yoga tablet 2 pro, with most recent build and most recent version of skype for android.
When using skype or hangout, the other party cannot hear me (unless I speak directly into built-in microphone hole from a few inches away). The mike works fine with OK google, etc. Skype and hangout also work well with earphone and external mike combo.
I think there is a problem with apps accessing microphone gain....... is there a fix?

Skype hangs when I login with my ID

I have two skype accounts. One for office and one personal. Till yesterday I was able to use both. Today am able to login to skype using my office ID but when I login using my personal skype ID ([Removed for privacy]) skype stops responding. I am able to login using this ID on my phone. I uninstalled and installed skype again, changed my password, but nothing seems to work. Please look into this issue.
I can also login to skype.com using this ID and post this topic.

Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
If you are on the latest Skype 6.5/6.6/6.7/6.9/6.10/6.11/6.13/6.14 version, then do also this:
Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

Yes, that is correct. The alternative is to quit all applications prior to logging out. Lion will then have a chance to remove the saved states.

This was true only for the Finder. Prior to Lion, no other apps would launch unless they were included in the Login Items for the account. And the OS would not restore windows for other apps.

Facebook and skype notifications

I have a lumia 920 and can't get fb and skype notifications work.
The worked just after the installation of the apps, but then they stopped working.
The apps are fine, I just don't see toast nor tile notifications.
Any ideas? This isn't a borderline issue for a smartphone..

I'm not talking about FB chat. That is ok on my phone.
I'm referring to facebook notifications instead (comments, likes and so on):
Me tile has too much limited functionalities (for instance no groups notifications..), thus I installed FB Microsoft app.
In the app notifications are sometimes working. But most of the time I couldn't get them, even after a long time after their publishing.
It seems to be a facebook app issue in this case, but is it possible on a smartphone to lack social functionalities like this? I'm not talking about minor socials web sites, but Facebook.
The forum is plenty of topics describing exactly this issue, but no solutions yet.
Does someone have any news?
