Skype on the iPhone.

Dear all:
According to an article on Macworld AT&T as announced that it would start allowing users to use Skype for long distance calls over its wireless network without forcing them to use Wi-Fi. The link to the article is the following:
http://www.macworld.com/article/143165/2009/10/att_voip.html
This article was published on October 6 (almost a month ago) and I thought that by now Skype would already be working. Sadly I just tried and for some reason I get a message on my iPhone stating that I need to be online in order for Skype to work.
What gives ? Have a failed to do something I need to do in order to make Skype work on my phone ? I have checked and my iPhone currently has the latest version of Skype available for download ? Any ideas ?
Thank you in advance,
JRC

Does anyone know who to talk to at Apple to get any information on this? Customer support is very friendly, but has no idea what's up with this.
I was hoping to find out what the time frame is for Apple's update to the AppStore policy on VoIP over 3G. I purchased the iPhone specifically for its ability to to use Skype in order for my wife to talk to her family in the UK while we live in the US. On other AT&T phones (Windows based), Skype can use the 3G network for communication. If Apple's written policy doesn't change soon, I will have to return my iPhone (which I do indeed like) for a Windows phone.

  • Skype on the iPhone - current status.

What is the current status on Skype on the iPhone ?
It has been months since AT&T announced they were allowing Skype to be used on the iPhone. There have been threads here discussing this and elsewhere including Skype forums. Skype claims it already has software ready to allow iPhone connections over AT&T's wireless network and the delay has to do with Apple itself. Every piece of information I have found including posts here in this forum also indicate the same. Since AT&T itself is okay with Skype on the iPhone why then is Apple blocking this feature ? This would be a great service to customers specially those who often need to make long distance or international calls.
Why is Apple taking so long to respond to customers needs and blocking Skype full functionality on the iPhone ?
    Thanks,
    Joseph

This is a user to user forum. No one here knows what is going on between Apple and any developer. You could email Skype and ask them. They may have a reason to hold back their app for now.

  • IM+Skype for the iphone

Alright I have a question about the skype for iphone service. I thought I understood but aparently not the case. So first to use it i must pay $25 for a lifetime purchase or a $4.95 a month fee. Alright so it's free to call someone's skype account from it and it only costs a small fee to call a real phone? I had thought prevously that it also uses your air time minutes. However, the skype website says it is for the ipod touch as well. How can it use airtime charges then? or is it only free when hooked up to wifi?

what i can gather though is it calls you back. My girlfriend is currently in london so i am trying to find the best way to call her. All I have is my cell phone and a pc, i'm in a dorm room. Otherwise i would just use a calling card and pay $0.03 per minute. Heard about skype for the iphone, I use skype to talk with her over the pc. just would be nice to talk anywhere.

  • How common an App is Skype on the IPhone?

I am researching remote viewing via Skype on an IPhone. I had a comment it was not a common app. I thought Skype was compatible with all smart phones? If you needed to do remote viewing, would one choice be Skype for Apple and Non-apple users? Can an Apple Iphone user talk to a person with a different manufacturer smart phone?
What problems might be encountered say if one person was in Massachusetts and another in Las Cruces New Mexico.

Skype is available for iOS, Windows, and Android. Compatibility will depend on the OS version being run, I suspect. Yes, it will work between devices of different manufacture and running different OS vendors. Its use on iPhones is quite common.

    None in particular.

Hello, I've updated the iPhone I have got I have a problem I hope you respond to some of the applications no longer work, such as the safari and skype and many applications are no longer working with the ios7.0.4

    Standard troubleshooting...
    1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider.  Slide to power off.  Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
    2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    3. Remove apps from Recently Used (multi-tasking) list...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Swipe up on the app preview card to remove it from the list
    - Press the home button when done.
    4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
    5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
    6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

How can I contact Viber support? When I go to their website there's no such thing as 'email us' or 'contact us'.
They may have a do-it-yourself troubleshoot system but that doesnt help my problem at all.

  • Running Skype in the background on iPhone 3Gs

I was under the impression that the 3Gs could run more than one application at one time. I am trying to figure out how to start Skype and just leave it running as long as I am online (wifi, of course, I understand that Skype won't work over 3G). I want to be able to answer calls via Skype and not have to leave my iphone on Skype all the time.
Anyone know how to do this?
(I was really, really disappointed to learn that the iPhone/ATT deal doesn't include an app that allows me to automatically switch from 3G calls to WiFi when I get into WiFi range. My Blackberry did this without as much as a thought...totally automatic... Anytime I was near a WiFi network, anyone who called my cell phone number would be connected to me via VOIP. I'm really bummed the iPhone doesn't do this. )

What I'm trying to accomplish is to have an app which will accept VOIP calls open and running at all times so that I don't use cell phone minutes while I'm on WiFi. That was the joy of the Blackberry (also ATT): Whenever I was on Wifi, anyone who phoned my normal cell phone number was automatically routed through Wifi and connected to my blackberry, just like a normal cell voice call...but it was using VOIP and I didn't have to use my cell minutes. I was completely dumfounded to learn that this wasn't standard operating procedure for the iPhone. So I figured, OK, the next best thing would be to have the iPhone have Skype running in the background so folks could at LEAST contact me that way without it using my cell minutes.
So far, not so impressed with way ATT and Apple have this arrangement going. I hope I can find some Apps for the iPhone that impress me perhaps that will help redeam the (pretty lacking) VOIP integration that I've seen so far.
But I totally admit: I'm new at the iphone (Apple user since 84) and I may yet become convinced that this is a decent product.... Week 1 with the 3Gs, pretty disappointing.

  • Free Skype Calling on The iPhone?

I'm wondering since Skype is an online application and therefore uses internet resources, if I can make calls through Skype for free?
I wouldn't think this to be a problem since Skype is easily available online and the iPhone has Safari. Then i'm assuming I'd be able to make a call through Skype thanks to the fact the iPhone has a microphone.
I've been watching videos on YouTube of people doing this through some site called "SoonR".
I would think this all does not break any rules while using the iPhone, I don't want to break any rules here.
But I see this as a great thing to do: making skype calls to landlines and mobiles through my Skype account.
Obviously this makes me ask the only question I need to ask: Would making Skype calls through my iPhone use my ATT minutes?
*I'd assume not since I'm using Skype through my Safari Internet.

SOONR actually calls you back on your IPHONE to complete the call, therefore your are using yor minutes. I use SOONR for international calls - then I only get "charged" as local minutes

  • While using skype on my iphone 4s i found after an hour or so the iphone was very warm and actually bit hot. Is this normal for other users too?

While using Skype on my iphone 4s i found the phone was heated up. It was very warm. I had used for 1 hour or so. Is this normal for other users aswell ?
And also sometimes when i get the call no matter how much i try to slide the cursor, it doesn't move. I miss those calls. It looks like it is freezed. Has this
    happened to others too?

    *Update*
I thought I had found the offending 'app' namely "Songpop."
I regularly use "Songpop" on my phone late at night via my wifi connection.
All enteries on my phonebill are at midnight (even though I have a data allowance it was excluded from allowance). I switched 3G off on Friday, played "Songpop" at midnight and at the exact time I got a "Server Error" message.
I posted a message on the "Songpop" support forum. At first they said this was a problem relating to my ISP.
I have spoken to my ISP and asked if there are connection drops at the time I have been billed (ie to establish if my wifi dropped and 3G kicked in without my knowledge) and have been advised that there aren't any connection drops at that time.
"Songpop" have now responded that "This is an issue to take up with Apple Support"  see: http://support.songpop.fm/songpop/topics/playing_songpop_on_phone_via_wifi_but_i ncurring_download_data_charges_for_3g_useage?utm_content=topic_link&utm_medium=e mail&utm_source=reply_notification
Hopefully someone at Apple can respond ....

  • UK Skype Number on iPhone 5s

    Hi,
I am doing this for the first time.  I am currently travelling alot and as such need to be contactable on a central number.  I would like that central number to be a UK number from skype where people from the US, UK and the Middle East can call me.
However in addition I was wondering, since I have the skype application on my iphone 5s, if there was a way that when someone calls me from the US, UK or the Middle East on the Skype UK number, if I can make it so that the number ports the call to my local number of the country I am in?
For example, I am in the North of India at the moment.  And say I have obtained a UK skype number.  Someone from the Middle East calls me on the UK skype number and diverts to my India mobile number.  However I dont want the caller to know that I am in India or that the call was diverted to my India number. I want the caller to still think he/she is calling a UK number.  This would be the ideal scenario.
However, I think what does happen and am not sure . . . in the same above scenario . . . when the person calls the UK skype number, it rings on my iphone but it rings on the skype application which means while the person thinks they are still calling the UK number, I am limited to always being around WIFI in order to accept the call.  If I am out and about with no WIFI, I cannot get the call.  What happens to the call then - does it go into some sort of voice mail where once I am within WIFI range I can return the persons call back?
The other question I have - what happens when I call the person from the skype application.  Is there a way that I can call overseas and have them only see the UK skype number that I have obtained from skype?
Any advise on what is the best method for me to follow so that people can reach me on one central number that is a UK based number and they think they are calling a UK number no matter where in the world I am.  AND when I call them all they see on their end is the same UK number.  And of course I would love for the solution to be economic in terms of cost and not to technical to use as I am not technical - I prefer the phone rings and  I pick or I pick the phone and I call kind of easy process .  And of course it should be compatible for my iphone 5s
    Many thanks in advance . . .

    http://techcrunch.com/2013/06/10/ios-call-blocking/
iOS 7 will offer call blacklisting, which in reality is not true call blocking.  It allows a call to connect, compares the caller ID information with a database of blacklisted numbers, and if a match is there, it hangs up the call without ever riniging.
The feature is part of iOS 7, not specific to the iPhone 5s at all.

  • I want to get iBook, Facebook and Skype to my iphone 4.2.1 through my iTune, but I coudn't because it is said that it requires a newer version of iOS. Please I need your help. Thanks

I want to get iBook, Facebook and Skype to my iphone 4.2.1 through my iTune, but I coudn't because it is said that it requires a newer version of iOS. Please I need your help. Thanks

If your iPhone can't be updated to a higher iOS version then the only way to get them is if you downloaded versions of them which were compatible with iOS 4.2.1 and you still have copies of those versions somewhere e.g. on your computer or on a backup - only the current version of each app is available in the store, and as apps (and other content) are tied to the account that downloads them, you will need to have older copies that are linked to your id

  • I want to install Skype on my iPhone.

I have got an iPhone. I want to install Skype on my iPhone. When installing it throught iTunes, it is showing that Skype is a free application but when I continue to download and install it, it asks for payment through credit cards!? So what is the meaning of showing the skype application as "Free"?
Or if it is really free! Please let me know how to install it.
    Thanks.

There are no charges for free apps. You're just opening an account. If you don't buy anything you won't be charged anything. In addition to Credit Cards, you can also use PayPal, or set up an account without a card following these instructions. You must be at least 13.
      iTunes account without credit card:

  • How do I download a lower version of skype for my iphone 2g?

How do I download a lower version of skype for my iphone 2g?

This isn't official, but you would have to search your trash bin for a lower version of the application (backups on your computer move older versions of apps to the trash), then just delete the new app from your iDevice and iTunes, then drag the older app into iTunes and sync.
