Skype on Windows 10 tablet - on-screen keyboard problem

Hi,
I would like to point out, that Skype on Windows 10 tablet in current state is unfortunately completely useless. As modern version of Skype has been depreciated in favour of desktop version (http://blogs.skype.com/2015/06/11/a-more-efficient-skype-experience-for-your-pc/), desktop version is the only way to go. However it seems, that no one has tested that version on any Windows 10 tablet, because apparently nobody has spotted, that because of different behaviour of on-screen keyboard, message textbox, as well as latest messages are covered by that keyboard.
Switching keyboard behaviour (docked/not docked) has no effect.
Please fix that as soon as possible, because in current condition, usage of Skype on tablet is basically not possible.
See attachment for the details.
Thanks a lot!

It's been almost whole month since Windows 10 premiere, and still – nobody from Skype/MS has interested in this problem. Thanks a lot...
That's kind of pathetic, that "so awesome and great" OS on tablets lacks of basic functionalities, such as IM. The funniest and saddest thing about it, is that other platforms, like Android and iOS has Skype working on tablets, but not MS, as the owner of the Skype itself...

  • [Solved] Tiling window managers and on-screen keyboards

I've got a small, old tablet pc with a 10" touchscreen, and was hoping to use a tiling window manager so that I could have an on-screen keyboard (onboard, cellwriter etc) stuck to the bottom third of the screen, and other applications 'fullscreened' in the rest of it, preferably in tabs.
I've tried a few tabbed tiling wm's (i3, xmonad, wmii, ion3) and while I can get the layout I want, I'm unable to use the onscreen keyboard due to focus switching - clicking on the 'keys' of the keyboard (or in fact, moving the cursor into it's frame/window/whatever) moves the focus to the keyboard, so it sends the typed text to itself.
Since tiling wm's are usually targeted at keyboard users, I'm having trouble finding which wm's listen to the onscreen keyboard's 'nofocus' properties. Does anyone know of any tiling wm's that respect that property and work with onscreen keyboards? Or even if there are simple config changes I can do to stop the keyboard from getting focus?
Failing that, any other window managers I could try? fwiw, I really liked twindy (http://www.niallmoody.com/twindy/about.htm) but it suffered from the same problem (and wasted a fair amount of space with its sidebar).
    Thanks!

Ah, thanks, that got me looking for and finding an xmonad patch that should make it not focus on onboard and cellwriter, amongst others: http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=177 Its a shame that the patch still isn't in the darcs repo, but I guess a working open office is more important that the few people using onscreen keyboards!
...time to compile from source... ugh - only got a single core running at 900kHz...

Even changing my regional settings to use the full stop "." I still get the comma in the numeric layout of the  On-Screen Keyboard. Changed the location/region to South Africa as well, still not helping.

  • IPhone 3GS On-Screen Keyboard Problem!

The number, space bar and return key on my iPhone 3GS on-screen keyboard is not working until you tilt it to landscape mode! When I tap the number key, it activates the cap key. When I tap the space bar, depending on weather I'm taping the left, middle or right, it will activate the "X, C or B keys, respectively and when I tap the return/done key, it will activate the backspace key! This problem happened suddently about two days ago!
What on earth is the problem and can anyone please help me?
Thank you very much in advance!

Try pushing the "home" button twice rapidly to get the multitasking bar to open. Hold on the icon for the app store for a few seconds until you get the option to close it. Then try reopening it and see what happens. That will probably fix it.

  • Skype on Windows 8.1 lock screen

When I first upgraded my Skype to 7.6, it asked me whether I would like to put Skype as an app on my lockscreen but all slots were filled at the time so I declined it, thinking I could go back later to make room for it.  Now that I have, Windows does not include Skype among the programs I can run on lock screen. I tried uninstalling, restarting, reinstalling but the prompt won't come up anymore. How do I fix this? Thanks!

  • Windows 8 remote desktop touch keyboard problem

I have been playing with the HP Elitepad Tablets at work for some users, who need to connect to terminal servers, or their PC. The issue that they have is that the standard RDC does not support the touch keyboard (different then the onscreen keyboard or
virtual keyboard). When they connect into the remote session they are able to pull up the touch keyboard, but by a series of maneuvers that I don't expect anyone to have to fight with (swipe in the charms, tap settings, tap keyboard, and then select "Touch
keyboard and handwriting panel". Then they are allowed to type into a field but if the keyboard needs to close so they can actually view the screen then this has to be done again). I have downloaded the Remote Desktop app from the Windows Store and have
used this and it works well, you can tap the PC you're connected to at the top and select the keyboard, but not every user has a Microsoft Account, and I am not in the position to have them sign up for one just to get one app not to mention issues of using
their personal email for their work PC.
Is there a way to get the Remote Desktop "App" from the Windows Store without having to sign in with a Microsoft account?
Is there a way to add in Remote Apps to the Remote Desktop app for easy switching between RPDs? (Swiping from left to right or selecting the dropdown from the Remote Desktop app and switching between RDCs)
Any help would be appreciated. Again this is only for a few devices, we currently have less then 10 of these tablets on our domain.

  • HELP! Screen & Keyboard Problem!!

Can anyone please help me out? This have been driving me crazy for a month. I just got a new 15" Powerbook G4, and after about 15-30 seconds if I do not touch a key or the mouse (whether it is plugged in or not) the screen dims and the keyboard light goes out. How can I change this setting to keep this on continuously? Drives me nuts. Please email [email protected] Thanks!!

    Hi Barry,
Rather than emailing you directly, it is customary to reply to questions on the board here so others who may have the same problem can easily find the solution as well, so I hope you get the reply here.
To extend the time before the screen dims (or to eliminate it entirely), click on the apple symbol at the top left of your menu bar and select System Preferences, then Energy Saver. The setting you want to adjust is on the Sleep tab. Just slide the slider to the right for when to put the display to sleep.

Ps. this problem occurs on all tablets we have (5 pieces). :-(
    thanks,

    Hi,
This issue can be caused by corrupted system files during update installation or incompatible update.
    Please first try following suggestions:
    1. Update your keyboard driver in Device manager.
    2. Run command SFC /SCANNOW as admin, any error, post back the cbs.log.
    3. Run this command to repair Windows:
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
If there's no changes on this issue, please restore your system back to the point when the Keyboard work fine, and manually install checked out updates one-by-one, after each one, please restart computer to check the issue.
Then let me know which update cause this issue.

  • Windows 8 Tablet / Touchscreen - On Screen Keyboard shortcut missing on Desktop

    Hi
On a windows 7 tablet, on the desktop, if I clicked a field (e.g. in Windows Explorer) a small keyboard icon appears with a shortcut to the on-screen-keyboard (OSK).
On windows 8, this no longer appears. Instead you have to click the field, then select the OSK from the taskbar, and then click back in the field before typing.
    Technical Stuff:
So far we've found that in Windows 8 there is no 'Options' window for the Input Keyboard in the Taskbar. In Windows 7 there WAS an 'Options' window which included the setting "For tablet pen input, show the icon next to the text box". This setting controlled
the shortcut icon that appears when you click in a field, and changes the following setting in the registry: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\TabletTip\1.7\ShowIPTipTarget. This setting does not appear in the registry on a Windows 8 machine and adding it in makes no
    difference.
    Rant:
Within 5 minutes of issuing a new Windows 8 tablet this problem was noticed by the end user, rendering the device almost useless if you want to work at any pace - and it was promptly handed back. Very frustrating and annoying as this feature appears
to have been removed. With Windows 8 pitched directly at the tablet market, surely this setting is in there somewhere - I can't think of any reason why it would be removed.
    Any help much appreciated,
    Andrew

I fully agree with ssxIdent and all other posters who find the new touch keyboard rather dumb.
There is no point in explaining why MS has decided to do things this or that way and what philosophic reasons they can come up with. MS needs to understand that software has to be accepted by the users and should not irritate them.
    But this is irritating.
I thought one of the main concerns of MS was to be as intuitive as possible and provide a most satisfying user experiance - this is definetly not.
Has anyone at MS ever tried to e. g. rename several files in a directory with the touch keyboard? Especially when you get to the bottom of the screen. Then you not only need to have show/hide the keyboard permanently, you even have to bother moving it or
resize the window. That is NO GOOD USER EXPERIANCE!
I'd find it intuitive, if there was a way for developers in WPF or in Windows Forms to tag any UI element if it
Needs a keyboard (making the touch keyboard appear automatically) or
Would like a keyboard (showing a symbol next to the box, just like the X in WindowsStoreApps.TextBox, to trigger the keyboard or make it pop up automatically, if the keyboard had an option that can be set by the user to respond to these UI elements) or
Can have a keyboard (behaviour as is now)
Once an application was built this way, users would intuitively be able to navigate through their beloved apps haveing the keyboard at hand when they will need it anyway, being able to access it just with a twitch of the hand if they want it and not being
annoyed by it when they normally would not need it AND not being annoyed by permanently having to show/hide/show/hide that dratted thing by making miles of hand movement for nothing.
For applications that are not tailormade this way some options to adjust the keyboard behaviour would help, too. Just provide an option to hook the keyboard to any focus change, and give users a selection of options to what major control types the keyboard
should respond. For geeks you could even provide white list where they can add the GUIDs for classes the keyboard should show up automatically, a black list where the keyboard has to disappear and a gray list where the keyboard comes up on enter and disappears
    on leave.
Some other thing I'm not happy with:
I know Modern UI came somehow via Windows Phone 7, but our tablets, touch enabled laptops, ... are no telephones, so why has the touch keyboard numpad have the "1" at the top left corner and not at the bottom left like every other hardware keyboard
or even the MS Windows OSK???????? In this point I contradict the explanation in the otherwise quite interesting article about the
Design Concept because typing in numbers has more often to do with maths than with telephoning or switching TV channels. And calculators have the 1,2,3 in the bottom row, as have HW keyboards. The other misconception lies therin that you don't need to find
1,2,3 quicker with your eyes when you are typing lots of numbers e. g. into spreadsheets. The fingers of HW keyboard, calculator or cash register users are so used to the conventional position of the digits that won't be easy to reshape. Additionally when
typing in quantities of numbers right handed users (90% of world population)  will have the hand rest on the keyboard, the thumb on 0 and index finger, middle finger, ring finger doing their respective columns low value low down, high value high up. Who
is dialing phone numbers or changing TV channels this way? But what will users do more often with the numpad - especially when dealing with loads of input data?
Why can we not at least have digits on the alpha keyboard like on Android with long press on "Q"="1" ... "P"="0"? Password policy sometimes forces you to add digits in a PW, calling for switch alpha/num/alpha/num which
is annoying, too! Even with the peek thingy, since you need two hands.
Why is there no indication what special characters are hidden behind a long press? It's possible when you press Ctrl, despite most people already knowing what Ctrl+C means. e. g. where is the paragraph sign "§"on the touch keyboard? Or have
you left it out, so lawyers can't sue you for developing this touch keyboard ;-) You have added a set of emojos, but forgotten to put a character on that is on virtually any other keyboard??? Rather give us a layer user/developers could fill with their own
set of special characters and swap the Ctrl hints for a special character preview.
When I have my keyboard docked I can split the alpha key gaining access to the ODD numpad in the middle, but why can I not have the numpad when the alpha stays unsplit in the middle having a big black block to its left and right - there was space, why have
you not used it properly??? Nevermind feeling crowded, as mentioned in the article, give us an checkbox in keyboard options than we can decide if we want it or not. Since the article argues that users tend to get comfortable with the keyboard after a while
and needn't look at it, this "over crowded" feeling would fade away just the same. Or you might even dim it a bit when there is no finger near it.
Where are the Fn keys? Give us an option - we'll decide if we want it e. g. on the left side of the alpha block. Just as with numpad this could be dimmed, too.
I'd have a lot more suggestions to throw into this, but I fear you'll not even pick up on the easiest or most fundamental ones.
Prove me wrong! Please do! I dare you!!!

  • Windows 8 tablet touch keyboard DISAPPEARED from login screen!

I recently bough an Asus VivoTab Smart running windows 8 and everything was fine up until today when at some point the touch keyboard stopped disappearing whenever i needed to log in to the tablet! its annoying to have to find the on-screen keyboard and
i would like to have the touch keyboard back.
I have tried restarting many times and that does nothing, i have tried updating the driver but i cant as it says that it already has the driver up to date and that its running properly!
Any help is appreciated! thank you,

I don't know if this will help you but it solved a similar problem I had on my Windows 8 touch PC:
If you are able to reach the Start/app tile screen or desktop and from there "view local services" which you can find by typing "services" in the Start screen scroll down the list until you come to the "Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service" which
should say "Automatic (triggered)" and "Running"
From there "right-click" that service (or otherwise get into its properties), click the "Log On" Tab, click the first option under "Log on as:" (circle button "Local System account") and make sure to Check box "Allow service to interact with desktop"
For me this box somehow became unchecked when I "Refreshed" my windows 8 to solve another issue. Once I checked the box, the keyboard started to reappear at the login screen.

  • On Screen Keyboard Glitch in Tablet Mode - On Screen Keyboard minimizes / disappears / slides down

    Hi there -
New Yoga owner here ( just bought it yesterday) and within minutes of setting the computer up I noticed that the on screen keyboard was malfunctioning when the yoga is in tablet mode. Specifically, it pops up for about a second and then, without me touching or clicking or doing anything, it quickly slides back down. repeated attempts to bring up the keyboard end up, frustratingly, with the same result. what is perplexing to me is the on screen keyboard works fine in laptop mode (when I need it least).
Someone else already started a post on this BUT it was marked as 'solved' (which it wasn't) so I figured I'd start new thread. The solution on the previous thread was to simply 'refresh' windows to get rid of any new drivers that were downloaded since purchasing the yoga, but I did not download or update anything prior to this problem arising (as I said, the problem seemed to occur within a few minutes of turning the machine on for the first time). In any case, I tried the refresh and it did not work so clearly my problem is not that I downloaded an incompatible or faulty driver. Please Help! I love this machine and I'm trying to see past the other flaws I've noticed so far (subtle screen flickering, inconsistent touch sensitivity etc), but this issue is starting to really undermine my confidence in the product quality and, from a productivity standpoint, it is a real deal breaker to not have full tablet functionality.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I had the same problem with the disappearing virtual keyboard within hours of starting to use my new Yoga 13.  I read somewhere that it was a problem with an incompatible Synaptics driver, and when I looked in the control panel, it showed that the Synaptics driver had been updated on my Yoga as of the day I bought it.  I think somehow by agreeing to automatic updates of the software, the Synaptics driver is updated to an incompatible version.   So what I did was I removed the Synaptics driver, using the Windows program uninstaller tool, rebooted, and then found the Synaptics driver at the Lenovo site which is specifically labelled as the Yoga 13 driver.  I installed that, and the keyboard is now working fine.

  • Windows on-screen keyboard

    Hye,
I'm trying to make Windows on-screen keyboard open right after any text box is getting focus,
right now, as default, the user must click the text box twice to activate the keyboard which is a problem, becasue it's on a tablet and not always the 2nd time is in the box and tablet is not real accurate and so on..
so, I want the virtual keyboard to be visable right after the first click,
is there another way or calling OSK.EXE everytime the user click on text-box is the only way?
    thanks is advance,

  • On Screen Keyboard for Windows 8

Is there a way to keep the onscreen keyboard from opening automatically? When I am on my tablet with an external keyboard and am using Word 2013, every time I scroll through or click on the document, the on screen keyboard comes up. It was easy to disable
in Windows 7, but I cannot figure out how to disable it in Windows 8.
    Thanks!

That works, if you consider a manual solution:
    1) Starting and stoping the Win8 virtual keyboard, and only the keyboard:
I put two commands into two batch-files:
    "net start TabletInputService"
    "net stop TabletInputService"
    2) Creating Shortcuts
I created two shortcuts and attached them to the taskbar
    3) Playing tricks on the UAC
Now you are stuck with the UAC. You can create an elevated task in the task scheduler and call that, but its complicated. I personally used a software to create an "elevated shortcut" in step two. There are some out there, e.g. "Elevated Shortcut".
But of course you would have to trust such a program. :-( I do. ;-|
This is not cool, but it works.
Problably you can check the  service's state and create a batch file toggling it. So there would be only on shortcut left. I did not try that, instead i wrapped that in a little C#-Programm.
Well, might be for my vaio duo 11, Sony itself should have provided such a program, because it is their keyboard. Microsoft did so for theirs' on the surface, as I mentioned above. Actually I don't know if there is a standard API to check if an
perferred keyboard is in typing position.
    Greetings,
    Frank

  • Using Photoshop CC 2014 on a Windows Tablet without a keyboard and mouse

Using Photoshop CC 2014 on a Windows Tablet without a keyboard and mouse can be quite a challenge. Even if you use the experimental 2x UI. You can not use your fingers or to quickly change tools and change settings. You have no shortcut without popping up Windows touch keyboard or leave it up taking a great deal of screen space.  If you're using the 2x UI Photoshop uses the screen at half resolution so it displays 1/4 the amount of pixels it could.
Fortunately I found a little touchkey utility on the web the lets you design your own touch keyboards. The can be transparent and you can even paint under them as long as you start the stroke  outside the keyboard area. The keyboards can be toggles on and off so you can actually use Photoshop.  The utility is small and requires not installation can be run form anywhere.  I purchased a Surface Pro 3 a week ago.  Its a full fledge PC.  Through the home group I can access all machines in my house and using network shares I can access all files on my machines and the network drive on my router,  I can print on my Epson 4800 printer. I can show slideshow on my HDTV via   Bluetooth using a Microsoft wireless display adapter.   I can plug in my Wacom Intuos Pro wireless receiver into the USB  3 port and use my Wacom tablet.  Have a very touchy machine.  Touch on the keyboard touch pad touch on the Display display and on the Wacom tablet.  Could have touch on a mouse but I prefer the Microsoft comfort bluetooth mouse that has six buttons and a four way wheel.
As a tablet its under two pounds.  Its quite impressive cost why mor the an iPad but worth the cost to me for with windows I can get at the file system.   If you have a Surface Pro 3 you should check out  "Touchkey" its handy.

Do a screen screen capture and post it here so we can see what you stating about a white layout...
