Skype doesn't charge for receiving calls so the charge would have been levied by the recipient's cellphone carrier. Please ask the recipient to check with them.

Webcam that works on skype out-of-the-box ???

I know that this is an issue that has been discussed many times, but i would be appreciate if someone can propose me a webcam which work with skype out-of-the box.
At the moment i have a Logitech Communicate STX but i 've the green horizontal lines although i've tried the LD_PRELOAD trick.
Which webcams are you using with skype ?

I don't remember exactly how it was, and since I run Skype from a 32bit directory I'm not 100% sure if this is applicable. For some reason I couldn't get a one-line command to work, but if creating the above mentioned executable file, which I gave the name skype_video, it works perfectly well when I run schroot -p skype_video. Otherwise it always complained about not finding that v4l1compat.so file.
Test to create a file in for example /usr/bin/ like mine and see if it works. In my case the camera works excellent, and gives very good video quality for the price.

Macbook X 10.6.8. Epson SX218 failed to print every fifth line, but only in MS Office documents. I updated Office. Now that line is slightly blurred as though the printer had missed out a pass.

I am helping a disabled person with a printing problem involving a Macbook, an Epson SX218, and MS Office for Macs. The Macbook had been recently updated to OS X 10.6.8, and the printer driver reinstalled, by an Apple store. She complained the printer failed to print about every fifth line. It turned out there was no problem at all with printing web pages and emails, but only with Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). I updated
Office. Later all lines were printed, but imperfectly with a bit missing from bottom of every fifth line, as though the printer had missed out a pass, so I am not sure the Office update is what made the difference. I am not at all sure whether this problem arises from the Mac or the printer or Office.

It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

Get skype out of my outlook NOW!

Here's the deal:
I want skype OUT of my outlook account, i'm sick and tired of being logged on forever because of the MORON who had the sad ideia to link skype account to outlook account, and to make things more lame, skype and microcrapsoft don't allow me to contact them, but if i'm a company, suddenely, the "internet page" becomes avaible, instead of "not avaible now".
Skype is becoming more lame and privacy invader, i shut off the automatic USELESS updates, and it still comes to live to annoy the living heck out of me, and now, the crap outlook has skype built in?
What is next, you useless skype developers? Put gas prices, news and romantic movies built in too?
You deserve a facebook movement against the BS you have been throwing us with.
Rants aside, any ideia how to get rid of this lame issues made by morons at skype and microlamesoft?

The Internet connection speed that you obtain on your network will be limited by the plan that you have with your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
No device on your network will be able to make that connection go any faster.
If you need a faster Internet connection speed, you will need to speak to your ISP about a faster plan....at a higher price of course.
The AirPort is capable of providing far higher speeds than your ISP can ever hope to provide. Kind of like having a car that can go 400 miles an hour, but the speed limit is 40.

Im opening up a company and want an office number for the UK and the US
But both come through to me at home. Can i get two skype out numbers for these and use them at the same time? I dont want to open one then close it and open another?

You can have up to 10 Online Numbers on a single Skype account. So you could purchase numbers for the UK and US, and you would receive those calls on your Skype account. You'd still need Skype Credit or a subscription if you want to call telephones in those countries, or anywhere else, as Online Numbers do not give you any privileges for calling telephones - except that you can use certain Online Numbers as Caller ID when calling telephones.
For your example, numbers from both the US and UK can be used as Caller ID when calling telephones from Skype. You can choose to use one of these numbers as your "default" Caller ID number, and there is an option where you can use a specific number for calls to the country that number is in. This means you could set the US number as your default Caller ID, but the telephones you call in the UK could see your UK number, not the US number. Or vice versa - use the UK number as your default Caller ID number, but callers in the US would see your US number.
I have 4 Online Numbers - in the US and UK like you are interested in, along with Australia and Mexico. These are great tools to have callers avoid international call charges. Good luck!

TRYING TO UPDATE CREDIT CARD USED FOR SKYPE OUT NU...

I have been a Skype user forever and have had a 'Skype Out' number for several years now. My card is due to be charged for my 'Skype Out' number but I have to update the expiration date etc. Now I am not talking about my subscription only the 'Skype Out' number. I have had no success in this new and grossly unimproved website and trying to find the support chat proved another dead end. I can't even enter the c/c info as a new card. Can someone that really knows how to do this please explain it to me. Thank you.

Thx! Been paying $25/month for a data plan since my first iPad. Bought this one and gave other one away. But I didn't know I didn't need the plan for this version. Cancelled the credit card and got message fr/AT&T to change card so I thought that meant I no longer has Internet access. That's why I started researching how to get to that option to change cc info.

Skype out on Mac bad quality after update to Version 7.9 (746)

Hey, I've been using skype out on a subscription calling from US to US or Canada, for over 2 years now. After the latest update (on 7/1 I believe) skype out on my computer became unusable... everyone complains that they can't hear me properly. But when I call the same person with my cell phone(on the same WIFI) they hear me perfectly... same headphones too. Anyone else dealing with this? I'm thinking of cancelling my skype subscription and getting an unlimited Canada/USA cell phone package! regards,

When I say "grayed out" i mean that the botton is there but faded.. get me? Its like an option that is no longer available. e.g. while going thru normal options like FILE or EDIT and the like the options that are not available are "grayed out" or faded. And yes I am using Software Update from the blue Apple menu.
I am not well versed with the Mac, it's my girlfriend's Mac, I know a bit about it but I try not to mess with it too much.
I didnt know that I was able to update any other way (System Preferences > Software Update > Update Software) I will try this and see what I can find. But I would guess that all those settings are at DEFAULT.Is there an option to make it look for updates automatically on a set date/time or everyday/week/month? I was only trying to update recently cuz I heard that some Mac viruses were loose and I want to update her Mac. I hope to get this fixed soon.

Skype Out and Yahoo Voice

I have my Mac Pro and a Windows PC connected to my network thru an airport extreme in bridge mode. The main router is a Linksys. I can't seem to get my Skype Out or Yahoo Voice (the one that lets you call to real phone numbers in cheap rates).
When I connect to my router directly, it works just fine.
Any idea what could possibly happen?

I am not certain that this version of Yahoo Messenger has video chat.

It says it has webcam support, but I'm not sure which webcams may be included in that support.
Personally, I use Apple's iChat (which uses the AIM protocol) for instant messaging. iChat is included with Mac OS X 10.3.

Skype Out quality so poor it is now unusable

Dear Community,
Is anyone else having major issues with Skype Out quality lately?
I am based in UK with a very fast (40Mb/s) internet link and a newish MacBook Pro, but when calling the US, NL or UAE within seconds of making a connection the line bandwidth appears to be narrowed so far that I cannot hear or be heard.
This started a few weeks ago and has got so bad that I now have stopped using Skype Out.
Is anyone else experiencing this or do I have a problem? If the latter, any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Sorry to hear about the bad call quality you were encountering. Did you use the post call feedback option to share this experience? This way we can easily detect call quality degregation and take appropriate actions.
I can see that you have had several calls that lasted longer, so it seems not all of your calls in the past weeks were affected. Is that correct?
This leads to believe the problem is actually not on your end, but when terminating the calls. And for that Skype needs the call quality feedback information to be able to identify how these bad calls were terminated. Sorry that I can't share any better news/solution yet.

My Skype Out subscription is up and I am researching other VOIP alternatives. Current I pay $30.05 USD, is that what I will be billed if I renew in November?
Also, if I want to purchase an online number for 12 months, what is the cost for that?

1. The cost of a subscription to a Call Plan depends upon which Plan you have.
Please advise.
(It wouldn't be a "SkypeOut Subscription". We don't have such a product.)
2. The regular price of an Online # is $60 for 12 months and $18 for 3 months.
If you are subscribed to a Call Plan (any length) the discounted prices are $30 and $12 respectively.

Yes, you can have multiple Skype Online Numbers on a single account. I think the limit is 10 Online Numbers. I have 4 (one each in the USA, Mexico, England, and Australia). All ring into my Skype account, and - depending on where the calls are coming from - I will receive Caller ID information for those incoming calls.

Out of Band Dial Up... (Regarding Module Support)

Can I use the PVDM2-12DM module for Out of Band Dial Up management of CPE routers. Dialing to remote connected modem with Call Back function.
Might sound stupid, but I would also like to know whether the same is supported on Japanese PSTN system.

SWIA -- Forwarding option is grayed out... can not forward Work Item

When I use SWIA to forward one Work Item to another user, that option is grayed out there.
While another use with same access is getting this option for the same work item.
Any user specific setting preventing this?

Usually when you try to forward an already forwarded item then the option is greyed out. Which is why one user can forward it and another cannot.
