"Skype Phone" and "Online Numbers"

I just found out that “Skype Phone” and “Online Numbers" are the same thing. I was not told that when I signed up, I was told I needed both? I have been charged for both for the last two years?
I would like to be reimbursed, even if it is prorated for some reason?

  • RTX Dual Phone and Online Number

I'm planning on getting RTX Dual Phone with an online number to replace my land line. The requirements specify Broadband Internet connection (I have DSL service and a router with open ports).
The requirements also state 'landline operator subscription'. What does this mean? My objective was to replace the landline?
The RTX dual phone package comes with 2 handsets. How many will it support and where do I buy extra handsets.
Can I set Skype on my computer to the same online number, so that it rings when my computer is on.
    thx
    Visitor John

Hi, If you buy a Skype phone and an online number anyone who calls it either from a landline, mobile or Skype ID, the phone will ring. If you are signed on on another device be it a computer or IPhone app all devices will ring. As long as the Skype phone is switched on and has Internet connection it will be online 24 x 7. If you need any more info please get in touch.

Skype's Australian Online Numbers are not allowed to be used as Caller ID when calling from Skype.  Only numbers from a few countries (Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Hong Kong, Poland, Sweden, the UK and the US) can be used as Caller ID when calilng telephones from Skype accounts.
I don't know the exact reason(s) why Australian Online Numbers can't be used for Caller ID.  I have an Australian Online Number myself (a Melbourne 03 xxxx xxxx number).  It could be limitations from Skype's partner in Australia that provides the Online Numbers and the connections to the Australian telephone network, or Australian regulations that prevent the use of these numbers as Caller ID.
    Sorry!

  • GE 31591 Skype Phone cannot make SkypeOut calls to...

I just purchased a GE 31591 Skype Phone. I also have a SkypeIn number and have SkypeOut. I am signed into my (only) Skype Account on my computer, the GE Skype Phone, and an Ipevo Skype wifi phone. When I dial my cell number, or any other landline and select SkypeOut Call, the screen immediately shows "Call Duration 00:00" and goes back to the main screen. I KNOW I can make SkypeOut calls to landlines because using my Ipevo Skype Phone and Skype on my computer to dial the numbers works perfectly. What's going on?
Also, is there no way to reduce the amount of rings on the GE 31591 phone to four rings so that it will forward to my mobile number quicker?

Add me to the list of people who are having this problem. I can make calls from my CPU and Android phone's Skype app but not on my new GE phone. I get the exact same thing as the people above me.
It will actually call landline numbers of the contacts I have on my contact list but not a number I dial manually.
Also, when I log in to my account I can see the numbers I am trying to call on my recently dialed list.
I have updated the software on the phone, set the time and date and made sure i set my country to USA.
Any help? I don't feel like paying per minute when I already have an active subscription.

  • Receiving calls to online numbers all attached to ...

    Hi all,
I'm starting up a home business where I want to have different Skype online numbers for different purposes. I want them to all be activated at the same time, from the same account. What I mean is that I want to be logged in and I want all of these numbers to be reachable.
Is this possible? I do understand that if I didn't answer a call, it'd go to Voicemail.
Any advice appreciated, and Kudos will be given where due!

If you want to use different Online Numbers for different purposes (i.e., different voicemails for each number, or different call-forwarding settings for each number), you would want to create separate Skype accounts for each Online Number.  Then you would have access to a separate voicemail and call-forwarding settings for each number.  If you wanted to forward calls from each of those Skype accounts to different telephone numbers, you would need to purchase Skype Credit or a subscription for each of those accounts.
With a single Skype account, all Online Numbers on an account share the same voicemail and call-forwarding settings.  You can have up to 10 Online Numbers on a single Skype account, and for individuals this may be adequate.  For businesses, or for people who just want the flexibility of controlling each Online Number, this is where the number needs to be on its own account.

  • Skype accredited Skype phone supplier "Chat & Visi...

Chat & Vision is OK when everything goes right but when there is a problem beware as you can see from various other reviews.
We ordered a Skype phone and it was eventually delivered within an agreeable amount of time. not rapid, but fair enough. As we live way out in the countryside here in Spain we have problems with DHL as well as other companies delivering to us.To alleviate this problem we had an arrangement with a Spanish friend in a local village to accept deliveries for us. We ordered this phone with the belief as stated in their website "Worry free ordering all dues taxes and delivery charges included". 2 weeks after delivery our friend receives a demand from the Spanish Customs Authority that she appear before her local Tax authority due to unpaid duty on the goods that she received for us.Which involved a round trip of around 45kms. She was informed that the declared value by Chat & Vision was $12 and they insisted that they see the invoice from Chat and Vision which of course read €75. After another round trip of 45kms with the invoice she was then told she would be informed as to how much duty was to pay and also that there could possibly be a fine. We were of course keeping Chat & Vision informed of all of this ongoing problem.
Assurance from customer support that we would not suffer as a result of this as they would recompense when it was finally sorted. Well the Duty turned out to be € 15 and no fine, but as we were so embarrassed about the time and cost our friend had incurred we recompensed her for her time and fuel costs € 50 only to be told afterwards that she no longer wished to receive any more goods for us. So a €75 phone from Chat and vision has cost us €140 which we could have purchased from Amazon for €79 and know that we would have had much better service as we are still waiting for any recompense from Chat and Vision that was in May we are now in September and still waiting, for something that is obviously not going to happen.

  • Can someone pls recommend this app of Skype Phone? + I used the Wi-Fi skype

    Good Evening!
Can someone recommand a Mac friendly Skype phone that
    1. the base unit plugs into the (or Router) and the phone(s) are wireless
(just like using a 2.4Ghz wireless phones on a cable router)
    2. To to be extra clear..... expansion phones that will work off the same base but it would be a drag to have to buy each phone with a base station just to expand the system.
    3. I used the Skype Wi-Fi phone this week if anyone is interested just post and I'll post my findings and what applications and lifestyle it may or maynot fit.

Hi Bill, I will follow below with what I've found but you'll have to see if it fits your application....
My application: To lower my Cell Phone bill to it's min. and to cancel my home cable ip phone from CableVision.
    Phone: SMC Wi-Fi Skype phone
Technically the phone sets up in a snap, first make sure you charge it the full 8 hours. No software required so the lack of Mac Phone support is not an issue here. There is s/w required however for the Skype account on your computer and now Skype does have a package out that works just fine with Mac.
After setting up your Skype account and charging your phone you should be ready to go.
Important to keep in mind: Skype is not a completely free service, if you live in the US you would pay approx $30 for SkypeIN for your own phone number of the Skype number and the ability to have any phone service, PSTN, Cell, Cable etc call you.
If you wish to use this phone for outcalls as well, your will pay approx $0.02 per min. unless your calling Skype to Skype.
In order to use your phone at home it's easy to for the phone to find a Wi-Fi network of yours and if need by enter it's security Key. Finding Wi-Fi networks outside the home is a different story.
Please remember that there is no 911 service so there is a risk there. Perhaps and hopefully not you have an emergency in the home at 2AM your skype is not charged, what happens if your Cell is not charged, so the risk here is giving up your landline. As a single parent, too big of a risk for me.
Inbound calls will ring both on the Skype phone and the Computer and I expect anywhere else you have the registered Skype service.
I'm not crazy about the inability to only store contacts for Skype Users in the phone. Now I have to go to my Treo Cell phone and bring up the contacts to call out on my Skype phone just to save some min. on my cell plan. Not worth it. So should I keep the Skype wifi phone just to have incoming free calls? maybe as a cool item for on 10 year old so he does not want a cell phone anymore.
I'm much more comfortable putting a Skype "Base" station in next to my Mac Desktop, attaching my presently owned Wireless phone base to that and using Skype as my Home service whereas I can use it as well on my Mac and use it as I travel on my MacBook Pro simply by using the iSight Mic built in to the MBP.
Bottom line is that while the Skype service may be fun and find some usage, it's a long way from taking over the world but Skype knows this and appears perfectly fine with it's niche for now.
Bottom Bottom line is if I work from home what does the Skype wifi buy me? Nothing at all and if I cancel my landline, I loose 911 which I'm not comfortable with.
Perhaps when Skype becomes more mature and feature rich and there are ALOT more users for Skype to Skype calls I'll look again.
    Thanks
    Tom

  • How can I receive SMS on my Skype phone?

I've just setup my new Skype phone and tried to send myself an SMS from another mobile. Seems that the call can go trhoughm while SMS don't - any reason for that?

You cannot receive SMS on any iPad.
The iPad is not a cellular telephone.  SMS relies on cellular telephone networks.
You can send/receive iMessages to other Apple devices.

  • 2 skype phones 1 office, 2 calls at the same time?

Hi, I am currently using the skype software you download to your computer. I know when I'm on a call, and someone else rings at the same it, it rings in my ear. If I had 2 skype phones, and I was on a call on 1 phone, and someone else calls, could someone else pic up the second call on the second phone?
    Tom

        Nelcris,
We want to welcome you Verizon Wireless. The iPhone 6 Plus is a great phone. You can contact 2 people at the same time and then merge those calls. If they call someone and then merge those calls you can have more people on the line. The most that you can call out is 2.

  • Skype-to-go and Online Number

    Hi,
I am an American graduate student who will be living in Canada for a year.  I plan on purchasing a Canadian cell phone plan but would still like to be able to call and be called easily by my family and friends in the states.  I was considering purchasing both a skype-to-go plan to call people in the US and getting an online number so that people in the US could call me for free (as well as an unlimited us/Canada plan).  Would this work, as long as I get a mobile plan with a lot of minutes, or would there be additional/roaming fees? I know that Skype-to-Skype would also be possible but, I'm not sure that I'll have a data plan.
    Thanks!

What you outline is good, stuff you can use Skype for. There is a sequence you would want to follow, which will help you save a little $$$ in the process.
First thing you should probably do is get your Unlimited USA & Canada subscription.  This covers calling to landlines and mobile phones in both countries at US$ 2.99/month.  If purchased on a yearly basis, you get a 15% discount, knocking the price down to just over US$ 30/year.  Once you have this, you will be able to make calls from Skype to landline and mobile phones in both countries, and use this to cover the calls forwarded from Skype to your Canadian number.
Once you have the subscription, purchase the US Online Number.  Ideally, you should get it in the same city as the people who would call you most, trying to make the call for them a free local call.  Skype does not have Online Numbers in all 50 US states and not in all US area codes, so take a look at what's there.  Even if you can't get a number in the same city as your friends and family, at least it would be a domestic long-distance call instead of making them call a Canadian number at international rates from the USA.  With the subscription, you can get a 50% discount on the price of the Online Number.  For a year, that makes the Online Number US$ 30.  Not a bad deal. You would not be charged by Skype to receive calls on the Online Number.  With the subscription as outlined above, you can forward calls to any number covered by your subscription (in Canada or the USA) for no additional charges from Skype.
Then get the Skype To Go number.  You may be able to get the number so it is a local call for you wherever you are going to be in Canada.  Be very careful about the city and area code/prefix combination for the Skype To Go number, as this could be a long-distance call for you.  Using the mobile phone, those calls may be covered by your mobile plan.  Not all calls to all area codes for a particular Canadian city may be considered as free local calls. You can then set up Skype To Go to remember your Canadian number, so you don't have to enter a PIN code every time you call the Skype To Go number to make calls.  These calls would either be covered by your subscription (free calling to US and Canadian numbers), or require Skype Credit if calling somewhere not covered by the subscription.
You will have to consult with your mobile carrier on the particulars for receiving calls.  Some plans may give you unlimited incoming calls, where others will allow you a specified number of minutes per month.  The cheapest monthly plans will probably charge you some amount per minute for incoming calls.  All of this is outside of Skype's control, so make sure you're set up for this and know what you're getting from the mobile carrier.
As you stated, you will need to have some sort of data plan if you intended to use the Skype app on your mobile phone in Canada, and use the mobile network as your Internet connection.  If you have access to WiFi, that would take care of the Internet access, but do make sure of what you get from the mobile carrier.  Chances are good that you won't have an "unlimited" data plan option from the Canadian carrier, just like how the US mobile carriers are going now, so make sure of whatever you are getting in this regard.
On a past trip to western Canada a couple of years ago, I did a similar thing as you are going to do. I already had a US Online Number and a subscription covering calls to the US, and obtained a Vancouver Skype To Go number so I could access Skype from Canada when not on the Internet.  I purchased a Rogers Wireless prepaid SIM in Vancouver with a Vancouver number which had an optional data plan (paid per day), so I could avoid roaming charges from my US mobile carrier.  I set up Skype to forward calls to the Canadian number while I was in Canada, so callers to my US Online Number didn't have to change anything they did to reach me.  Whenever I called back to the US, I rang my Vancouver Skype To Go number, then made the cross-border calls using Skype (covered by my subscription).  I saved a lot of $$$, compared to using my US mobile number in Canada and getting clobbered by roaming fees.  I ended up only using Skype when on WiFi, instead of paying for that optional data plan on the prepaid Canadian SIM. It takes some thought and work to set up, but it was worth it.
    Good luck!

  • Theft of phone and skype account still being used!...

    Hi.
My wifes phone was stolen on th 19th of April during a camping trip.
We reported the theft to the police.
I have gone onto skype today, and the account is still being used.
My wife said the only two places skype is installed is on her stolen phone and on her laptop, which isn't on at the moment as she is at work!!
So whoever stole the phone is using the skype account right now!!!
I need to find out the IP addresses that have been logged against the user [Redacted for privacy] since the 19th of April.
I have tried to email support, but the contact form keeps giving an error, so please someone respond as soon as possible so I can relay info to the police please!!
    Kind regards,
    Glenn.

These two commands, when entered into a chat window, may prove helpful:

Sign out all other instances except the current one. This will also stop push notifications on all other instances.
    /showplaces
Lists other instances where this Skype name is currently signed in.
Important: Always make sure you are using the latest version of Skype. Some of these commands may not be supported in older versions.

If your wife still has access to her account, she should consider signing on to her account details and removing any saved payment methods on file.
Skype does not release IP addresses except upon request from law enforcement agencies, who can file to receive this information via official channels.

  • Skype phone numbers; what do I get for what I pay?

Hey all, first time user here so please bear with me.
I'm ditching my home phone and getting a Skype phone instead.
My plan is to get a 12-month unlimited plan for Canada and the US, and a Skype Phone Number.
Problem is, I'm not sure if I can get a Canadian number.
If I *CAN* get a Canadian number, I need to know if I automatically get one when I sign up for a 12-month unlimited plan.
Finally, I need to know if I can log in to any Skype-supported device and use this unlimited plan, be it on a computer, mobile phone, iPad or game console.
Thanks very much for your help!!

  • Skype Online numbers down? Major problems at Skype...

It appears from viewing the message boards and our own experience, that Skype Online Numbers are down at the moment.  All calls to online numbers either don't ring or go through, OR the caller recieves the dreaded three tone "this number has been disconnected" message. What's up Skype?  Is this to be expected regularly now that Microsoft owns you?

Just signed up for Skype and online number a few days ago. Online number not working, simply get a busy signal when number is dialed. How do you get something like this rectified from Skype. I don't see any way to contact Skype. Help!

  • Recent changes to Skype Numbers (Online Numbers)

    Hello everyone,
I’m creating this post to explain you recent changes in Skype Number’s (known also as Online Number) functionality.
Last week Skype has enabled recurring payments for Skype Numbers.
So if you use PayPal, Credit Card or other payment method, which has a recurring capability, your number will be renewed automatically.
Some of you, who have more than 30 days  to the Number’s expiration date , received an email which informed you that you are on preapproved agreement from now on.
And for those of you, who have less than 30 days to the Number’s expiration (or used payment method which doesn't have a recurring capability), received an email about recent changes. But you are not on the preapproved agreement,  (will be when you extend your number next time).
Please have a look at screenshots below:
    a)      If you are NOT on the payment agreement, you can see “Extend” button.
    b)      If you are ON the payment agreement, then you see “settings” button, and when you click it you see “cancel your Number” option.
I suggest you all to sign in to your Skype accounts on www.skype.com and check  Skype Number’s settings.
Please also be informed that if you decide to cancel the number, you will be actually cancelling just a payment agreement. Number will be active until the end of billing period you have paid for
I hope it is more clear now, and if you still need a help do not hesitate to ask!
If my answer helped to fix your issue, mark it as a Solution to help others.

At least you have got a settings button - I can't even see that.
