Skype refusing to Start up on Windows 8.1

For a while, Skype wasn't sending my messages, so I just closed out of it. Upon attempting to start Skype up again, this window displayed. The "starting up" animation plays, but does not go anywhere (I've sat for 30+ minutes waiting for it to start up). I tried deleting my login infromation and reinstalling Skype, but it still brings up this animation and nothing more.
I use the Desktop version of Skype on Windows 8.1, and it stopped functioning as of several hours before posting this issue.
Thanks!

That type of problem can be resolved by doing some IE and Windows maintenance:
Reset IE settings:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
Clear IE temp files:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/delete-temporary-internet-files
Clearing Windows temp files:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2143502/windows-8-1-update-tip-clean-up-that-disk-space-now.html
I would suggest rebooting and trying again after performing the above.

Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Browsing History" if Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.
If you use CCleaner then make sure that Session is unchecked in the settings for the Firefox application.

  • Dreamweaver cs4 refuses to start. Error window pops up but there is no message

I recently downloaded an Dreamweaver extension (HTML5) for cs4. Shortly after I got an error while I was working in Dreamweaver about the ssi.html server. When I closed dreamweaver and tried to restart, Dreamweaver refused to start. There is a popup message window with an OK button but there is no error message in it. I already removed my personal configuration files but that didn't help. Any suggestions. I looked on the Adobe site but most links to technical notes that could be helpful, were broken.

I have exactly the same problem, except that I regularly open up the npr site. But here is the real problem. I open firefox>preferences>advanced>encryption>view certificates>add exception. But here is the problem. I can not click on the box to permanently store exception. This box appears permanently closed.
I am currently running firefox 9.01, and I've got to say I never had any problems with firefox in all the years I've used it. But ever since it went through this dizzying series of upgrades from 3.6 to the present it has given me problems.
I am a regular npr listener, and so this annoying error message is really making me consider permanently leaving firefox for chrome or safari.

  • Skype won't start up Windows 10

    did not help

Try to reset all Skype settings. Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old. Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder. Restart Skype. N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

I can see that Skype is running in Task Manager (processes) but the application is simply not starting up.
Its driving me mad as I have spent hours since yesterday to try a solution.
    Please help

Try first again to reset all Skype settings.
If this will still not help, then  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.

My Skype NO LONGER starts with Windows anymore!!! I HAVE to manually open Skype!!! I cheked the options and "start Skype with Windows" IS checked!!! I tried unchecking the option and rechecking it, made no difference!!! how do I fix??

Just because Skype isn't starting up automatically doesn't mean it isn't trying.  Other applications you have loading at startup could be slowing down Skype's ability to start.  You can run msconfig ( Start - Run  (Wink key + R) -  "msconfig".  Under the startup tab you can see if Skype is set to start or not.  You can also uncheck everything else but Skype and see if it comes up them.  If it does, using a process of elimination you should be able to determine the application causing the probelm.  If you do not see anything for Skype you can use the registry files provided to toggle that feature on/off just as the Skype program attempts to.

  • Stop Skype from starting automatically on Windows 7

Hello, I have seen some information regarding how to stop Skype from starting automatically on Macs, but for Windows 7, I have yet to see any information. If someone could provide me an answer as to how to stop Skype from opening as soon as I start my computer, that would be great. Thanks.

My laptop have refused to start up, it will just show windows boot manager on the screen, and me to choose an operating system to start or press tab to select a tool but when I tryed all those things none of it will respond

Thanks also Star 1. I have gone the route you suggest also but with the same results as I explained to the hatter. I have about a dozen die-hard Windows friends and they have been trying to help me also. We have tried everything and I have read a several pages on how to do it but nothing looks like what they are saying it does. When in Vista, Vista says it is the default SU OS. When in XP, XP says it is the default SU OS. So there is nothing to change. Only the Windows Boot Manager (which is really not a manager but a boot selector) shows Vista as default and XP next. I've learned again what I already knew. Windows is a conglomerated piece of crap that is hard as heck to use.

  • "Skype has stopped working" Error Message Windows 8.1 Skype 7.6

Hi, I just now installed the desktop version, I was previously using the other Windows 8 version, not sure what it's called but that doesn't matter. I was trying to call my friend and it said there was a problem with my mic. Well I bought a new mic and came home and it said there was a problem with my mic. I uninstalled it and installed the desktop version, thinking it would work better, but the desktop version tells me that it cannot detect my soundcard and to reboot my laptop. Upon starting up at the welcome screen, I continued to log in, and wait for my programs to load up. I opened skype, it closes without showing up, three more times I do this before running as admin. It tries to load and then gives me the crash report "Skype has stopped working" and says windows will let me know when they find a fix.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool. Go to Windows Start  and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post. Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

    Okay!
I'm newbie here, but it doesn't matter. I dont want to do here anything else, just write off my opinion about the Microsoft's "new" Skype, and I hope they will read...
This is a cropped image - of course hungarian, because I'm hungarian, but I think many of us could see this as well. How this is possible? "The Skype can not start because the system is not available" *** What kind of system? The Skype was on a P2P system, where is impossible that the system is not available! This is why the skype was much better than the Microsoft's messenger. Then they bought it, and make it wrong...
I found a solution for this problem, this can happen if my client is not updated. But IT IS!
How does it works? Can we use the **bleep** Skype how we would like to use? Or this time we need to find an other application (like Viber), and using that while they not buying that as well, just because that is better?

  • Skype has stopped working - message on windows 8.1...

This error message comes out everytime I start the desktop version...
The app from windows store though works , but I do not enjoy using it at all... the desktop client was always far better.
The problem rose when I upgraded my windows 8 to 8.1 , and since then the desktop client is always forced to close with a message that it has stopped working.
I did a few things that I found reading through posts where people were looking for help with their skype issues:
    uprgraded my graphics card
    disabled my integrated webcamera
    uninstalled java
    installed older skype versions
tried to rename the roaming skype directory to old_skype
    disabled automatic updates
but... once again i'm helpless, and it seems that none of those solutions I found is at least a bit helpful for me...
I'm pretty much desperate ( I apologize if I did write my post into the wrong place)
    hope someone can help me

I had never problems wih installation of lightroom. suddenly lightroom refuses to start when I try to from a picture i have taken with my nikon D500 and transferred to WINDOWS 8.1.  i have tried to re-install lightroom : the procedure asks for the serieal number , but refuses to accept the number that always worked. PLEASE help!!  jan

If you are certain you have the right serial number, there really isn't much we can help you with here. You might try downloading and installing the last version of Lightroom 2. It will be the trial version, but when the trial screen appears there is an option to indicate that you have a serial number. Incidentally, Lightroom serial numbers start with the first four digits being 1160.

  • Compressed hard drive to make space and now computer gives error message and refuses to start up.

    Hi,
I wanted to make space on my T43 and made the unfortunate mistake of compressing the hard drive. Everything was fine till i turned the computer off. Now when i turned it on the next day, it refuses to start up and gives an error message saying ' AEQSPQ is compresse, Press ctrl+alt+del to restart' . But when I press these, it does not restart but temporarily shows me the IBmM logo page where I have an option to interrupt normal startup by going into the BIOS utility, and then it goes back to the same error message. I do not know what to do in the BIOS part.
I am getting an ATA hard drive case to back up my computer memory but i do not know how to fix this problem. I have important documents on my computer that i need urgent access to and cannot. Desperate need of help here. Would appreciate advice. Thank you.

    Hi,
Thank you for the prompt reply. I chose the built in windows option to compress and it did not distingusih it as a non compressible file. I went to my computer and right clicked on drive C, where i chose 'compress files to make space'. It took a few minutes and was done.
The error message in itself does not give any hits on google but i found some similar cases of hard drives being compressed and people getting the same error message as me but with a different file name.
My case is very similar to this case, : http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xprepair/thread/39f3b8cf-419f-435b-818d-11cd05d17ff..., only difference is that she has an HP and I have an IBM.
According to the post above, it is a very common problem and HP has even written an article about it, with step by step instructions on how to fix the problem but i do not know how to apply these steps to my T43. You might have guessed by now that I am no computer whiz. Hope u can assist. Once again, thanks a bunch. I appreciate your help.
