Skype Restarts Itself After Quitting

Skype starts up with my computer, and I almost always end up quitting the program. Lately, though, it's been restarting on its own a few minutes later. The program disappears from the processes list after I quit, but after a few minutes it opens itself back up and I have to quit again. How can I keep it from doing this? I don't mind it starting up when my computer does, but I don't want it opening itself after I quit.

I am unable to close Skype even from windows Task manager. If I right click and click "End process" / "End Process Tree", it's still not closing.. I am unable to login to Skype as well as it is showing the message that I have already logged in that system and asking me to sign out. How to overcome this?
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode and then try to reset all Skype settings.
Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
Reboot in normal mode and try to start Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • Why does Airbook sometimes restart itself after shutting down?

My MacBook Air sometimes restarts itself after I shut it down. At first I thought I was carelessly choosing the wrong command, but now I'm clear -- it's the Airbook.  Also -- I had thought this was unrelated, but now I'm not so sure -- it's been forgetting to start up automatically some mornings.  And yesterday at 3:19 pm it informed me that it was getting ready to shut down, "as instructed" (the actual instruction in the Energy Saver is for midnight).

    Sounds like a Broken Drive...
Most of the times this will be solved with a HardDrive Replacement
    although,
    you could try this
Restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R).
Keep holding these keys until the Apple icon appears.
This indicates that your Mac is starting up.
After the Recovery System is finished starting up,
you should see a desktop with an OS X menu bar and a "Mac OS X Utilities" window.
After you do this, select Disk Utility and run it.
    On the next screen,
Select the hard drive in the left hand column,
the First Aid tab on the top, and click on Reparid Disk. (bottom left)
When that is done, click on Repair Permissions.
When that is done, quit Disk Utility and restart.

  • ITunes 10.5.3 restarts itself after closing the program. How do I fix this?

iTunes 10.5.3 restarts itself after closing the program. How do I fix this?
    Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
    iTunes 10.5.3 64bit

I've had this problem on my Windows XP for years. it's been around, unsolved, or no solutions in these forums.
It keeps reminding me why Apple will never be the primary office computer company. Anyone running a business cannot have software running that will not behave, won't shut down, or behaves without any explanation, and this problem has no explanation, or solution that I can find except to use task manager to kill the process and only use iTunes when I'm expecting to shut down or kill the process.

  • Oracle Linux 6.4 installs, runs, and manual shutdown OK ...  but restarts itself after 10 minutes or so

    Hi Guys
Successfully installed Oracle Linux 6.4 operating system , which subsequently runs as expected.
When Oracle Linux 6.4 is shutdown using  standard GUI  system/shutdown ,
it does a clean shutdown and power-off as expected  ....
UNTIL some 10 minutes or so later , when Oracle Linux 6.4 reboots all by itself from a fully powered-down state.
Likewise when Oracle Linux 6.4 is shutdown using  standard command line " shutdown -h now" ,
it does a clean shutdown and power-off as expected  ....
UNTIL some 10 minutes or so later , when Oracle Linux 6.4 reboots all by itself from a fully powered-down state.
Clearly it is NOT desirable to have the operating system able  restart of it's own accord.
A manual shutdown is typically  done for good reason , and the server should remain shutdown.
The previous version, ie Oracle Linux 6.3 did not exhibit this behavior.
When Oracle Linux 6.3 was shutdown, it stayed shutdown
    Question
    ======
Does anyone know how to STOP Oracle Linux 6.4 from restarting itself after a successful shutdown ?
    Thanks

Assuming your network interface is eth0, execute "$ ethtool eth0", like below, and indicate what you get for the lines "Supports Wake-on" and "Wake-on.
    lx04:/root $ ethtool eth0
    Settings for eth0:
            Supported ports: [ TP ]
            Supported link modes:   10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                    100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                    1000baseT/Full
            Supported pause frame use: No
            Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
            Advertised link modes:  Not reported
            Advertised pause frame use: No
            Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
            Speed: 1000Mb/s
            Duplex: Full
            Port: Twisted Pair
            PHYAD: 0
            Transceiver: internal
            Auto-negotiation: on
            MDI-X: Unknown

Then check in your BIOS (usually under APM) for any enabled power-on settings associated with PCI or PCIe bus (your NIC will use one or the other).

  • Why does my Power MAC G4 keep restarting itself after I shut it down?

    Hi,
    Thanks for reading this.
Why does my Power MAC G4 keep restarting itself after I shut it down?
This JUST started happening only 4 days ago.
Most recent installation was Limewire, but I removed it to see if this problem would go away.
I have 3 internal drives (See drive types below) that all have OS 10 on them in order to be able to boot up from either drive in the event of trouble.
    However...
No matter WHICH drive I use as the start up drive... the computer STILL restarts itself after it is properly commanded to shut down.
Prior to the Limewire install... the ADOBE creative suite was installed.
There is a Lexmark X83 printer hooked to the computer, which, it seems doesn't matter if it is left on or off... the computer still restarts itself.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Tommy!
If you still have problems, trash the following three preference files, then shut down and do a PMU reset. (PMU reset procedure for the QS is the same as is shown at the link for the Gigabit Ethernet.)
    HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
    HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist

  • Satellite P300 keeps restarting itself after initial start up screen.

My Satellite P300 keeps restarting itself after the initial start up screen.
The initial start up screen with the F2 & F12 options at the bottom appears, the screen then goes black, then a cursor appears in the top left hand corner and flashes a couple of times. Then the laptop shuts down and restarts itself and goes through the same process over and over.
This is all with the power adaptor plugged in. If unplugged, it will go through the above mentioned process and shut itself down with no restart.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

F8 is not listed in this meny, just F2 and F12 but F8 should help you to enter Advanced boot options .
Can you please give an answer to C3POs question?
Have you made some hardware upgrades in the past (RAM, HDD)?
    Have you changed anything?

  • 2008 Mac Pro restarting itself after waking from sleep

Recently, my Mac Pro has taken to restarting itself unasked upon waking from sleep. I just moved to a town with a hot summer, and my room has no air conditioning and gets quite warm. Could the temperature in the room be causing this? I don't think so, because it happens in the cool of the morning after an all night sleep, too.
Another factor I just discovered is that one of my RAM chips has stopped showing up in the system profiler.

Replace the pair of DIMMs first.
    Monitor the temps inside.
    Install and use SmcFanControl 2.2
    Run Apple Hardware Test
You may want to try a clean system install to test with once you have the RAM replaced. Faulty RAM can cause all kinds of issues. And dirty files. Some deeper check for corrupt files than Disk Utility is probably in order.
There is a significant "Inrush-current" on boot and wake from sleep with the 2008s. They need good power, a 1500VA/900W UPS, and sensitive to other equipment on the same circuit.

  • Why does my 2010 MBP keep restarting itself after upgrading to Yosemite?

This problem actually started once I upgraded to Mavericks - my MacBook Pro will randomly restart itself every 30 seconds - 15 minutes or so. I don't really have a good estimate of the occurrence though since it is so random and there seems to be no rhyme or reason. The only thing I can say is that it pretty much always restarts if I am resizing windows. When I upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks, it kept restarting itself but now it restarts twice every time! It's added an additional restart in the middle of the boot up screen. I reformatted the drive, reinstalled the original software and then reinstalled all the software upgrades and the problem persists. I know I should probably take it in to see a Genius as my best guess is that there seems to be an error with the graphics card, but I'm a college student on a very tight budget, so if there's anything I can do myself to fix this that would be great! Any help is appreciated! Here is the text from the last kernel panic:

Just thought I would reply here in case anyone finds this post and has the same problem.
I downloaded this app: https://gfx.io/  and set my graphics card to "integrated only" and it has solved the problem. Just remember to always set it to "integrated only" if it's not already set to that after anytime you restart your computer.

  • Mail keeps relaunching itself after quit.

I have this issue with Apple Mail. It launches itself fairly quickly after I log in (no, it is NOT set to do that, Open at Login is not checked) and if I quit the app, it almost immediately relaunches itself again, and again, and again. It is, as expected, independent of the "check mail" setting, and does this even when that is set to Manual. Which I would expect, as I have never seen the check mail option launch the app.
Anyone have a clue as to what this might be? If I did not know better, I would think that someone put a 1 second cron job in to launch mail as a joke (does not appear to the case), but that is how it acts, relaunches right after quitting.
Running 10.5.6 on a new Macbook, 2 GB memoy
Any suggesitons on where to look would really be appreciated.
    -Owen-

Well, of course, I have been chasing this for months, and JUST today, I decide to post the question here, and just today, I discovered the answer myself. Painstakingly I removed programs one at a time and re-logged in.
I discovered that when I removed the Soonr backup software "Soonr Desktop Agent" the problem went away. This agent scans your computer for things that need to be backed up, it has an option to also backup mail and address book data as well. Seems they feel they need to launch mail to do that, and that they need to launch it all the time for some reason. When I turned off the agent, the problem went away.
Turning the agent back on, I unchecked the "Enable retrieval of content from Mail and Address Book" and mail stopped launching itself immediately but backup seems to run, but perhaps not backing up mail now. Oh well.
I will report that as a bug to Soonr, but strange that it feels it needs to launch Mail to get data but not the address book.
Sorry all, problem solved by myself. Left here for reference.

  • A Macbook restart itself after 30 seg without working

After 30 seg without working this macbook show a message for restart, shutdown, etc, like if I was touch the power button and it restart itself automatically. You have to still push one key to work. I think that is a hardware problem, Someone know something about it?

Is it overheating? The macbook will powerdown if the device is overheating.
Here is a guide for some symptoms and solutions of overheating:

  • IPod classic restarts itself after connecting

After installation of iTunes 9 my iPod 120GB often wouldn't connect, but I think that happened to all of this iPod users. Today I plugged it in, but after showing "Connected. Eject to disconnect" for about 2 seconds, it restarted itself, showed an Apple logo for 10 seconds and disconnected. After that it connected itself again for two seconds, restarted, disconnected, connected, restarted, disconnected...
Also: there is some of my iTunes Library on the iPod, but only podcasts can be played.

Yea mine is doing the same exact thing right now. WELL its an older model than yours most likely...

  • My Ipod classic says its syncing but restarts itself after disconnect what's going on?

I have a second generation Ipod Classic.  When i connect it to my computer to sync to Itunes it says its syncing then proceeds to go through "steps" to find which songs need to be synced; syncs them then takes forever to connect then allow me to eject.  When I correctly eject the ipod from the USB, the Ipod device basically restarts itself and does not have any of the new music on it. I have tried a force restart and it's still acting this way.  Any input before I throw in the towel and opt to buy a new device?

    Hi kristenleducphotography,
I have a link for you that will help you troubleshoot this issue with your iPod classic. This link is to a troubleshooting assistant that will take you through the steps necessary to determine the source of the issue:

  • Safari restarts instantly after Quitting

Hi, I need some help to identify and troubleshoot the following issue.
For a few weeks now, Safari does not quit normally anymore. I am unable to fully kill the application.
Each time I quit a session, Safari reopens on its own within a couple of seconds.
I have tried all possible options I could think of: normal Quit; Force Quit; clear cache; disable extensions; delete extensions; restart iMac in normal and safe mode...
I have 2 users account on the same iMac - the same issue occurs on each user's side.
Still no success. Safari always gets back live automatically after I quit it. This is weird + likely ***** up CPU unnecessarily.
Any idea where to look at? Daemons? others?
    Safari 7.0.1. / OS X 10.9.1

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a couple of minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter
    exec sh
in the window and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know your password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
    8. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If it happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Photoshop is run again by itself after quit.

After update to Yosemite the cunning issue popped up.
I can't quit Photoshop. I press quit (by menu or cmd+Q), Photoshop is shut down, but then is run again by itself.
The only way i found to quit is use Force quit menu.
I'm using the latest version of Photoshop CC 2014.2.1.

Turn off Monotype sky fonts, and check with Monotype for updates to fix the bug.

  • Mail launches itself after quit

Recently I have noticed that Mail re-launches itself within seconds after I quit it, and also at startup. I rarely log off or reboot since I'm on a desktop so AFAIK the culprit could be anything I did in the days or weeks since I last quit Mail. It's not set to launch under my account's Login Items, nor is there anything under /Library/StartupItems, and I have never used email notifications in iCal - those are the only possibilities I am aware of; I don't where else to look. Yet something is causing it to launch - any other ideas?

Never mind - I found the cause of this. I am running GeekTool and icalBuddy, which I am using to display flagged messages on my desktop. Didn't occur to me that Mail had to be running to do this.
