Hello dear assistant.
I desperately need to find a version of Skype that will run on my iBook G4 with OS 10.4.11. As it stands all the former versions of Skype that I have installed prompt the following answer upon sign in: "unable to establish connection with server"

If I recall correctly, the Skype version that I liked best on my Iron Age G4 was 2.0.0.3. It was readily available at oldapps.com, but it's unfortunately not available there any longer. You might have to do a bit of searching on the Internet, but if you can find it, v2.x did work. I say DID work. It may no longer be compatible with newer versions of Skype.

Just what is the newest Skype version for mac?...

I keep getting messages about a new skype version, or my skype keeps wanting to update but wont... The version I've got currently is version 6.19 (422). Is this the most latest one? Because it never actually tells you what skype version you are downloading/updating to on the website...

Just ignore the updating, Skype is maintained now according to MS standard.
See my post about "NO to upgrades". The problem is that there are different versions for every platform, and they have no release policy, so the moment a new version is made for MS Windows, they try to do the same on all the other platforms.
Sorry Skype, but learn quickly never to touch anything that works. So upgrading is something you should never do, that may render you Skype useless. If it works, do not touch it. If it fails, go look for an old version that works. The novelty they have introduced is more bugs and slower systems, integration with Microsoft accounts (which I do not have) and they are probably working hard to replace servers out in the net, with their servers which is doomed to be a disaster.
Never change software that works!

What PSE version will work on an iBook G4 that has Leopard 10.5.8 on it? I have PSE 2, since upgrading to Leopard it will not work and
my computer will not support pse 8.

Incidentally, 3 is better thann 4 if you can find it. PSE 3 can still run tons of photoshop actions that call up underlying features that were disabled in PSE 4, and PSE 4 doesn't have much in the way of new tools over PSE 3.

Will be released a new Skype version for Symbian?

A new version of Skype for Windows/Mac was released this week that adds Microsoft account compatibility and others resources about Windows Live Messenger. Aditionally, the current Symbian version don't support video calling or conference (it's terrible, I can't invite anyone to conference, I can only enter on a created conference by others).
I want to know when a new version will be available since I really need these features, and Skype is now of Microsoft and Microsoft is allied to Nokia, so... Is ironic don't release a new version!

I think it's not worth waiting for a new version in the near future given that the Symbian Operating System is losing popularity each day.

am new to MAC and am really inerested in iphone dev , i bought a used PowerMac G5 with OS X 10.5.8 , am trying to install xcode and ios SDK's but am not sure which version should i install , i browse apple website and i really couldnt get an answer , anyone can help ??

If the profile details you listed in your post are correct, Safari 1.3.2 is the most recent version of Safari that can be used on OS X 10.3.9.
Edit: If you also installed Safari 3.1.1 on 10.3.x by mistake, the easiest way to recover from that is to perform an [Archive & Install|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710] to restore your system. Due to the various system files that are updated, it's not as simple as just replacing the Safari application.

Where can I download an older version of ibooks for my 2nd gen touch?

My Ipod touch crashed, then when I tried to restore from a back up it said the back up was corrupt!
I now have no way of reading any of my books.
When I move my books from Itunes to my ipod I get a message telling me that I must install Ibooks to read any of my books. But as I have a 2nd gen Ipod i cannot download the new ibooks
Is there anyway I can download an old version of Ibooks or use another app to read them? I have tried installing kindle and stanza but they require a newer IOS.
I have installed ereader but it can't locate any books in my library...

And I don't mean apps that you failed to download when they were issued in a version that would run on iOS 4.2.1 and that now require a newer version of iOS.
In any case, if you're that unhappy, go buy an Android device, then. But I suggest you price them out first. You may find that they're really not cheaper, particularly if you want to keep up with anything like current Android releases. I doubt anyone here really cares if you find some other product you think suits you better.

It is not broken. It works for me and it has always worked for me - every version of iBooks in every version of the iOS that I have ever run on my iPad. Therefore - I do not think that it is broken - or it would not work for me - and for countess others using iBooks and the current iOS version 5.1.1.
What have you done or tried to this point in order to get rectify the situation with iBooks? Have you restarted your iPad, quit iBooks completely and then tried again? Rebooted the device? Uninstalled and reinstalled iBooks?

Skype, FaceTime or Hangouts equivalent for G5 (PPC) running 10.5.8?

My Big-Mac (G5-PPC) has Leopard 10.5.8 and cannot be upgraded to Snow Leopard which was INTEL based.
I have Skype installed on Big-Mac and while it runs, it fails to connect to the Skype server - the Skype website now says that the minimum OS X is 10.6.
As for FaceTime, it only came in with the Intel-based OS and so it too cannot run on Big-Mac.
I then looked at Google Hangouts as an alternative but this needs Google Chrome but that too needs a minimum of 10.6. So buggered all round......
What are my options then for using my iSight camera for either voice or video calls?

Perhaps you had the disgusting experience of Skype cutting off your service if you were running version 2.8 because it's cleaner than the current spammy crappy versions or because you have a PowerPC (PPC) mac that can only run this earlier version, or whatever your reason, and you have been informed that MS / Skype will no longer work on your computer. I am practicing my best restraint here not to use all the 4-letter words that came to my mind when MS did this and screwed us.
It took a lot of searching, but I found a work-around that solves the problem for the time being. You have to edit a .plist file so that the Skype server thinks you are running a modern version when you are actually still running 2.8. Here is how to do it:
I will write up the geeky way that definitely worked. You may be able to accomplish the same thing using the Finder, Show Package Contents, and an editor like TextEdit, but I ran into permission problems when I tried that, so I switched to doing this through the Unix terminal and this worked fine.
1) make sure Skype is not running (Quit if it is) and run /Applications/Utilities/Terminal. From there....
2) cd /Applications/Skype.app/Contents/ (if this is where your Skype is)
3) ls (this (LS in lower case) will list the components there, and you can confirm that one is named Info.plist)
4) sudo vi Info.plist (this opens Info.plist in the vi editor) you will need to type your admin user password.
5) /2.8 <return> (this searches for and finds an instance of 2.8 in the file, so you can edit it and change it to the currently "acceptable" skype version)
6) type the letter i. this puts you in insert mode and you can edit the file.
7) replace whatever 2.8 version you have with 6.15.0.334
8) type <esc> to exit insert mode
9) repeat steps 5-8 until you have replaced all instances of the 2.8 version number. (I found 3)
10) after done editing, type :wq (this saves the file and quits the editor
11) launch Skype, and you should be good to go!
On some later versions of Mac OS X, the package contents are more challenging to access, but you can search for how to do that, separately. The main take home from this is that you need to edit the Info.plist file in package contents of the Skype application and change the version number from 2.8.0.866 (or whatever version you have) to 6.15.0.334 (of whatever version skype is now requiring). There are other terminal editors, such as "nano" and "pico" that you can use instead of "vi". Please post other methods to accomplish this in a more streamlined way if you find something that works better for you.
