Skype webcam freeze

Hello everyone,
I am having a problem with skype on my laptop. When in a skype call, my video feed randomly freezes for the person i am calling with, while i can still see myself and the light on my webcam stays on.
If I then disable my webcam by clicking "Turn off video", the button turns grey, but the webcam light still stays on. After this, I can't re-enable my webcam anymore.
Restarting skype shows the message that another program might be using the camera, while Skype is the only installed program that ever will.
Does anyone know why this happens and how to prevent it from happening?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a Lenovo G580 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with Skype 7.2.
I included the DirectX diagnostics results in the attatchments.

  • Webcam Freezes during call

Hi, I hope someone can help me here.
I have an HP probook 6565b.
What happens to me is that after a few seconds of transmitting video, my webcam freezes and stops transmitting leaving a still image of me up there. I can turn off the video and turn it back on. It starts to work again for a few seconds and freezes once again.
The funny thing is that I can see my webcam video fine if Im not in a call under the tools-otions-video menu.
Ive tried updating my audio and video drivers as well as uninstallnig skype and trying an older version. Right now im using 5.6.0.110
I appreciate any ideas to fix this
    Thanks

Have you checked to see if there's an updated driver for your webcam from Asus?
Do the specs on your built in webcam say it's supposed to do HD?
Any chance you may have or be able to borrow an external USB webcam to plug in to a USB port and try as a troubleshooting step?
The symptoms you're experiencing seem strange and I'm trying to come up with a way to pin down where the problem actually lies.
Please note: I do not respond to requests for help via Private Message.

  • Record Skype Webcam?

This may not be the right place to put this question, however, I have a client that does quite a bit of conferencing etc via Skype, using the webcam built into a 17" Macbook Pro.
They would like to be able to record the incoming Skype webcam and audio, so I can then bring it into FCP and pretty it up a bit. I can do the local stuff later, with a higher quality set up.
Is there a program that will record the incoming Skype webcam and audio directly onto the MBP hard drive?
    Thank you.

A quick google brings up SkypeCap and Call Recorder ... both look like the sort of thing you're after.
Plus you can of course also use any number of screen recording software to capture the video ... the lastest Snow Leopard's Quicktime X application can do this. Its "free" if you have OS X 10.6 although its perhaps not as fully featured as some of the third party alternatives like ScreeFlow, iShowU and Snapz Pro
You can also use scan convertor hardware such as the Matrox MXO to capture it directly to regular video recording hardware.

  • Skype webcam buffering - unable to see video

My Skype webcam just started buffering; the skype screen shows a grey screen with the loading circle, but will not load video. My webcam is also doing this, and the person who I was calling said it was happening to them too. I tried to run Microsoft Fix It, but it said Windows 8 wasn't supported. The audio was a bit sketchy as it would run normal audio, and then it would lower significantly before going back up to normal audio again; this happened randomly. This is the first time this has happened to me, and this computer is new; an ASUS ROG G751JT, which I got last december. The video cards seem fine, though I'm not sure if they need to be updated. Like I said before, this is the first time this has happened to me. I'm not sure what I should do, please help. Thanks!

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool. Go to Windows Start  and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. • Panasonic TC-L55ET5 Skype Webcam

Bought the Panasonic TC-L55ET5 on Black Friday.  Would like to use the Skype feature but don't want to pay the $100 for the webcams that are advertised.  Are there any cheaper alternatives for a Skype webcam that is compatible with Viera Connect on this set?  Thanks in advance for any help.

what is the model number of your receiver?

  • Webcam freezing- HD versus SD

Is a high definition webcam more likely to freeze than a low definition webcam? The problem is my video image freezes and is slow on the receiver's screen.

It's basically on autopilot and does this based off your connection.  Some people force HD through 3rd party software so that would change the default behavior.  So while it may do this based off connection, it might not be able adjust it if the receivers video performance is lacking (not necessarily the CPU).  The call technical detail will tell you what video mode both sides are in.  It's possible one version of Skype may have different tolerances vs. another.  So you always have the option of trying other releases of the Skype client to see if the overall performance changes in any way.

  • Skype video freezing constantly

     Hi,
So when I make video calls using skype, my video would freeze. Generally when I run skype without any other graphic intensive program, video calling would work normally. But at times, the video would suddenly freeze. This has the consequence of also disabling the mic which is also on the webcam. The only thing I am able to do is to click turn off video. Upon doing so, I am not able to switch video back on and mic is also still disabled.
This problem becomes more prominent when I run a graphic intensive program like games.
The only way so that i could continue the call is to unplug and replug the webcam.
I've tried using a different webcam but the same would also occur. I've also tried updating drivers of my webcam and also reinstalling skype on my computer but with no luck.
My operating system is windows 7

    Hi Sali02,
could you please enable logs according to the instructions in https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12321/how-do-i-create-log-files?, reproduce the issue and upload resulting logs here, so that we can have a look?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Webcam freezes while Skyping

    Hi Everybody!
I have a pretty annoying problem with my macbook pro. Lately these days I've noticed that during a skype conversation, the green light beside the webcam turns off for a sec and then turns on again. After this, the my webcam image on Skype freezes and keeps doing the same repetitive movements forever. Then I have to return the call and do another one. Why's that? It happens more often when the internet connection is not really good. But I tried with another computer on the same connection and it doesn't freeze. Could it be a problem with drivers? How can I solve it? Thanks for your answers. Have a nice day. Marco.

    Hi,
I tried Skype when it first came out and was independently owned.
I use Little Snitch to check where and on what ports an App is calling.
For instance iChat using just an AIM Login will contact about 4 servers during the login process.
These deal with the actual Login, the Buddy List (which finds out who is On  Line), the Buddy pic server and the one that deals with Status Messages (they all  tend to be separate).
Of course you may have multiple AIM logins and also Jabber ones and the server count will go up.
However the time I tired Skype I got to about 40 alerts from Little Snitch about servers all over the place.
Skype does not use a central server system and seems to rely on the bandwidth of the people logged in to spread the load.
A Buddy of mine claimed he allowed it to continue and got to over a hundred connections.
That would seem to make things very vulnerable.
So I have not trusted Skype for many years.
Now it is owned by Microsoft  and I have not really followed the progress it may have made.
I would tend to check the Skype web site and then the App Store to see if the "Latest" appear to match.
I would not like to guess at the time it takes to get any Update listed on the App Store.
I did see this on the Skype site
    Skype for Mac
    1GHz Intel processor.
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and above.
    100 MB free disk space.
Either USB or regular headset if your Mac does not have a built-in microphone.
Download drivers if you are using an external webcam.
For voice calls recommend broadband connection with 100 kbps down / 100 kbps up.
For group video calling everyone on the call needs Skype 5.0 for Windows or Mac or higher plus webcams, and at least one person needs a group video calling subscription. For best quality we recommend you use a high-speed broadband connection of 4Mbps down/512kbps up and a computer with a Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz processor. As a minimum you’ll need a high-speed broad connection of 512kbps down/128kbps up and a computer with a 1 GHz processor.
The Mac running OS 10.6.8 has drivers included  for all USB 2.0 USB Video Class (UVC) cameras that you could plugin.
The drivers the link points to are for USB 1.1 cameras which would be very difficult to even find nowadays  (pre OS X 10.4.8 OS-wise or around the time of Vista  on Windows machines).
The Minimum Speeds exceed those needed for iChat or Messages in 4 way Video Chats.
It seems to suggest the version is number 5.

  • Skype keeps freezing when trying to log in with Mi...

I always skyped with a good friend of mine, but his laptop had a hardware issue which got fixed recently, so today we tried skyping again but it doesn't work for him anymore. When he opens skype, he clicks on the login with a microsoft account and then Skype just keeps loading and then freezes, he isn't able to log in at all.
We tried uninstalling the skype and downloading the newest skype and installing that a few times, but the same problem keeps coming up.
We tried deleting the shared.xml file in appdata, but after that Skype is nowhere to be found on the computer and when he installs skype again the file is back.
He has windows 8.1, the newest skype and he uses AVG antivirus, it has always worked like that before. I hope someone can help us out.

Try to reset all Internet Explorer settings:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
    Next reset LAN settings:
Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN settings. Make sure that the only option selected is “Automatically detect settings”.
Next clear all Temporary Internet Files:
Open Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> General. In the section “Browsing history” press the “Settings” button and in the next window the “View files” button. Delete all files from the Temporary Internet Files folder.
Reboot the computer and then try to start Skype.

  • No Video on Skype webcam Yosemite

I am using Skype 7.2.412 there is no video just a black screen (although ledi ndicates that it is on).
Tried also with Skype_7.1.665 same problem ( did try to reinstall, reinstall + reset computer) nothing seems to work.
    MacBookPro11,2
    OS: Yosemite 10.10.1
Note: The same webcam works on Facetime and other programs that uses a webcam. And no, I am not using any of those programs when trying to use skype.

Try removing the app and adding it back. If that doesn't work
    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

Are you using Skype for text chats only? There is neither webcam or microphone connected to your computer.
Digital Audio (S/PDIF) is used for sound output. I doubt. I doubt that this is suitable for Skype.
What do you see when in Skype you open Tools -> Options -> Audio settings?
