Skype won't install on iPhone 3GS

Hello, Skype for iPhone won't install on my 3GS -- I am using iOS 6.1.6. I downloaded it a week ago from the App Store and it gave me an option to install an earlier version for my device. I had to restore it today and now it says that Skype isn't compatiable with my device and to upgrade to iOS 7! I'm not forking out €500 for a new iPhone that I don't want. If they'll take shirt buttons, then it's a different story. Can someone please help? ~ Random Person

This appears to be a restriction on the Apple AppStore:If you are attempting to download the app for the first time, the App Store will not offer the download of an older version. You must already own the app for the older version to be offered. Workaround:If you do not already own the app, one workaround is to purchase/download the app from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC using the same Apple ID you are using on your iOS device. The app will then be associated with your account and you should then be offered an older version if you attempt to download the app again on the iOS device. copied from: http://community.skype.com/t5/iOS-iPhone-and-iPad/I-need-skype-4-17/m-p/3412951#M29197

but since it can pair with the appletv then I guess it's not that

  • GPS not working in IOS6 when installed on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4?

Can somebody confirm that GPS location data (not from cell or wifi) is no longer functioning in IOS6 when installed on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4?

I have the same issue exept my phone doesn't ring for incoming calls. I've tried every fix, restored the phone and spent over an hour on the phone with Apple Care doing a second restore. The supervisor told me that he hadn't heard of the issue at all and came to the conclusion that I'd somehow broken the silent switch and that I'd have to pay $150 to have it repaired, despite my insistance that it was obviously a software issue since the problem started immediately after I updated to iOS 6. Total BS. I want this issue resolved immediately considering that the phone is virtually useless to me if I have to carry it around and continually check for notifications and incoming texts, phone calls, etc.

  • IPhoto won't recognize my iPhone 3Gs.  just says there's an apple iPhone, instead of the device name, and says there are no files to download, but there are 62 items on my phone... what's going on?

iPhoto won't recognize my iPhone 3Gs.  just says there's an "apple iPhone" instead of the device name, and says there are no files to download, but there are 62 items on my phone... what's going on?  as far as I can tell I have everything up to date and it's always worked in the past.

Have you already confirmed your Mac as a trusted device?  Try this:
    Lauch iTunes.
    Connect the Phone/iPad
When it asks you to trust it, say yes.
    Now try again to import.

  • Running Skype in the background on iPhone 3Gs

I was under the impression that the 3Gs could run more than one application at one time. I am trying to figure out how to start Skype and just leave it running as long as I am online (wifi, of course, I understand that Skype won't work over 3G). I want to be able to answer calls via Skype and not have to leave my iphone on Skype all the time.
Anyone know how to do this?
(I was really, really disappointed to learn that the iPhone/ATT deal doesn't include an app that allows me to automatically switch from 3G calls to WiFi when I get into WiFi range. My Blackberry did this without as much as a thought...totally automatic... Anytime I was near a WiFi network, anyone who called my cell phone number would be connected to me via VOIP. I'm really bummed the iPhone doesn't do this. )

What I'm trying to accomplish is to have an app which will accept VOIP calls open and running at all times so that I don't use cell phone minutes while I'm on WiFi. That was the joy of the Blackberry (also ATT): Whenever I was on Wifi, anyone who phoned my normal cell phone number was automatically routed through Wifi and connected to my blackberry, just like a normal cell voice call...but it was using VOIP and I didn't have to use my cell minutes. I was completely dumfounded to learn that this wasn't standard operating procedure for the iPhone. So I figured, OK, the next best thing would be to have the iPhone have Skype running in the background so folks could at LEAST contact me that way without it using my cell minutes.
So far, not so impressed with way ATT and Apple have this arrangement going. I hope I can find some Apps for the iPhone that impress me perhaps that will help redeam the (pretty lacking) VOIP integration that I've seen so far.
But I totally admit: I'm new at the iphone (Apple user since 84) and I may yet become convinced that this is a decent product.... Week 1 with the 3Gs, pretty disappointing.

  • Feedly app won't launch on iphone 3GS

Just downloaded the new Feedly app which is supposed to work and it won't even launch.  What do I need to do to get it to work?  I have an iphone 3GS with an IOS 4.3.  Yes, I know it is outdated, but have been told that upgrading will make the iphone slower and unusable.

Whatever "guys at the apple store" you talked to don't know what they're talkig about.  There are many millions of people runiing iOS 6.1.3 on the 3GS with no slowdown or problems.
you only have 8 to start with
"8" what??  The 3GS has 250 MB RAM and the version of iOS 6.3.1 for the 3GS was designed for that.
    Is your phone jailbroken?

  • 1 file in iTunes on Mac won't sync with iPhone 3GS

I have one big mp3 file (around 100 MB) that's in iTunes 9.2.1 on my Macbook that won't automatically sync with my iPhone 3GS (iOS4.1).
When I turn 'manage manually' on, I can drag this file to the iPhone and that does work.
But when I turn 'manage manually' off again, the next sync this file is removed again from my iPhone.
Any ideas how to solve this? I removed the file from iTunes and reloaded it back in, but no luck.

Thanks. I checked that already and the weird thing is, that is says 'Music' there, but in list view in iTunes it's ranked under 'Podcast' (in the Artist column). When I imported the file in iTunes, it was correctly categorized under the right artistname (not in 'Podcast'), but after syncing with my iPhone it was suddenly categorized as a podcast.
    Weird...

  • Why won't iBooks on iPhone 3Gs play video on "enhanced edition" book?

I recently downloaded Stephen King's "11/22/63" Enhanced Edition on iBooks for my iPhone 3Gs. The 13 minute film that comes with the download won't play at all. I'm running iOS 5 and my iBooks is 1.3.2

    Hi, bgrieb.
Thank you for visitng Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like these shows are in a HD format and are not supported on the iPhone 3gs.  I would recommend downloading the SD version of these shows and then sync these to your device.

  • WiFi won't work on iPhone 3GS

    Hi all,
I used to be able to connect my iPhone 3GS via WiFi to my Powerbook G4 without issue. Now, since the latest iPhone software update, I'm able to connect, but the phone reverts to the 3G network. It still indicates that I'm connected to WiFi (when looking at the WiFi setting panel) but the little WiFi icon doesn't appear - it says 3G.
I've tried resetting, reconnecting, restarting, refreshing, the iphone, but to no avail. I can't download any large files / purchases from app store unless I physically connect to itunes on my computer. No bueno. Any advice?

I frequently use a Computer-to-Computer network in order to link my iPhone 3Gs to my MBpro to use the Keynote Remote App when there is NO WIFI...this method is used to still allow iPhone to control Keynote with no wifi connection...
When I create that Comp-to-Comp network and then go into settings on iPhone to select that Comp-to-Comp it ALWAYS stays as 3G icon and not WIFI icon...
Even if I am in fact connected to my home WIFI...I tested this and created a Comp-to-Comp and as soon as I selected it and moved away from my home WIFI the icon immediately changed to 3G and yet it still controls my Keynote so I know the connection is complete...
In the previous cases you used this did that icon ever change to the WIFI???
Maybe a really obvious question...but why wouldn't you just connect the iPhone directly to the WIFI network and download the larger apps??? Why are you uisng the WIFI through a Mac laptop??
Lastly if you connect the iPhone to the Mac and allow the sync in iTunes...you can download and then update or install the new apps in iTunes while connected...

  • Anybody know why my Sony Vaio S series won't recognise my iPhone 3GS ?

I just bought a Sony Vaio S with Intel i5 chip, however when i plug in my iPhone 3GS absolutely nothing happens. The phone doesn't even charge - I've checked the cable with my old Dell and it works . I've downloaded the latest iTunes and can't seem to work out why I'm getting zilch from the laptop? I've tried all 3 USBs on the thing but still no good.

  • ITunes won't recognize my iPhone 3GS

I bought a new iPhone 3GS, when I'm connecting it to the computer it recognizes it as an Apple Camera.
I tried everything; Deleting iTunes, Restoring iPhone (in that case, during restoring iTunes does recognize iPhone but than an unknown error 1601 occurs and the restoring stops).
I tried connecting iPhone to a different computer, it worked there perfectly. So the problem is probably in my computer, what could it be? I heard something about a device driver I need to update maybe? how do I do it? Can you give me any other solution? My iPod Classic works without a problem on my computer if it means something...
I'll be glad to hear any response, Thanks!

  • ITunes won't sync to iPhone 3GS, iTunes appears to be wrong version?

OK this is really weird, my dad updated to iTunes 9.0.3 last night and his iPhone to OS 3.1.3, I confirmed this by checking Installed Updates under Software Updates in System Preferences. Software Update also says that the system is up to date.
If I go to iTunes > About, the version shows 9.0.1, even after I have re-downloaded iTunes 9.0.3 from Apple.com and installed it successfully, it still shows 9.0.1!
It was working fine for him before the update, now it won't let him sync anything to his iPhone (except e-mail, contacts etc...). With apps it says they are not authorised and it removes the icon from the iPhone page (the virtual one in iTunes that let's you position your apps where you want them), with his songs/podcasts they get sync'd, it shows up as 76MB music in iTunes that's been sync'd to it. But I went to the iPod app and it says there is no content there.
I just deleted something called the "SC" folder, and it when I went to Store > Authorise computer, it says "You already have two computers authorised including this one". So just now I tried to sync an app on the freshly restored iPhone, and it says "iTunes can't sync these apps to your iPhone because your computer is not authorised".
Soo, does anyone have any suggestions?
EDIT 1: I updated my iTunes and iPhone OS 3.1.3 before he did and mine is working fine.
EDIT 2: It seems I can sync Photos just fine, I've tried one podcast, and a normal playlist (not a smart playlist) without success, it shows on the capacity bar that I have 1.19GB audio (in blue), ~180MB photos (in yellow) and ~196MB of other (in orange) and FREE is at 27.78GB.
EDIT 3: In the iPhone under Settings > General > About, it shows 0 songs sync'd which is wrong, but shows the correct amount of photos (280).

It appears to be fixed, he had multiple versions of iTunes installed (since he put his iTunes in a different folder) the iTunes icon launched the old iTunes, even though the new was installed. it's working now.

  • ITunes won't update my iPhone 3GS from 4.1 to 4.3.3.

When I click Update (under Version in the iTunes Summary panel) I get a message saying that ITunes is updated to the latest version. Something is very weird here. I cannot find any way to update the OS on my iPhone!!!
I'm using a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.4.11 (Tiger). My iPhone is a 3GS.

You won't be able to update your phone until you first update your computer to at least Leopard & then update iTunes.
    Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)

  • HT1923 Upgrade install fails, Iphone 3gs unavailable

When trying up upgrade my 3GS to IO6, the installation failed, my Iphone disappeared from the Itunes menu, and my screen now shows a USB plug, arrow pointing to ITunes logo.  I've tried resetting the Iphone, no change.

I actually solved my own problem by unplugging all my usb devices, restarting my computer, then using a different usb port to plug in my iphone.  It was then recognized by Itunes as needing a restore.  It restored to the latest IOS.  After the restore, it used my most rececent backup to install my personal info, settings and apps.  Now all is well.
