Skype won't install - used to work

Skype used to work fine and then this morning stopped working. I have uninstalled it all and now it won't reinstall in the new or old version. Gives me the unexpectedly quit error - is this a skype problem or my mac problem.
Recently had to do a repair disk on my machine.
Thanks in advance

There is one version of Skype (v.5) that is for Intel Macs only.
The version we should use is v. 2.8.0.866 which you get from this link:

  • Skype won't install on iPhone 3GS

Hello, Skype for iPhone won't install on my 3GS -- I am using iOS 6.1.6. I downloaded it a week ago from the App Store and it gave me an option to install an earlier version for my device. I had to restore it today and now it says that Skype isn't compatiable with my device and to upgrade to iOS 7! I'm not forking out €500 for a new iPhone that I don't want. If they'll take shirt buttons, then it's a different story. Can someone please help? ~ Random Person

This appears to be a restriction on the Apple AppStore:If you are attempting to download the app for the first time, the App Store will not offer the download of an older version. You must already own the app for the older version to be offered. Workaround:If you do not already own the app, one workaround is to purchase/download the app from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC using the same Apple ID you are using on your iOS device. The app will then be associated with your account and you should then be offered an older version if you attempt to download the app again on the iOS device. copied from: http://community.skype.com/t5/iOS-iPhone-and-iPad/I-need-skype-4-17/m-p/3412951#M29197

  • Mic won't work with Skype on Windows installed using BootCamp Assistant?

I recently purchased a 17" MacBook Pro in Australia. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and updates as well using BootCamp Assistant. Everything works fine in Windows except when I downloaded and logged in to Skype and video-called one of my friends.
I could see my friend and he could see me, but we couldn't hear each other. I beleive there is a problem with the built-in mic, which Windows doesn't recognize or doesn't have the driver for it installed. If it's a driver problem, can anyone tell me which specific driver to download? It'd make things so much easier!
    Please help!
    Thanks.

Did you download and install the drivers? You need to download the drivers then install them from within Windows. See the Boot Camp Installation Guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
Also search these forums for links to the audio drivers from the manufacturers's site.

  • Skype won't install (WIndows)

I have used Skype many times in the past on other computers. Today I downloaded the install and have been trying to install it on a different home PC and it will not install. Every time, the install module launches no problem, the install starts, the progress bar moves, then eventually a message says "We are having problems connecting to the download server. To download an alternative installer for Skype, click "Download" button." I already have the installer (both versions -- the thin and the full version) and this is the result every time I try to install either one. Please help! Is this a Skype server issue? I am not having any other issues -- PC, connectivity, downloading, etc.

It's baaaack... I think the new version is up to 6.2 but not sure. I am getting the same message now. I downloaded the full setup twice through this and neither work. Why is it trying to connect to the Download server anyways, I already downloaded it! Edit: I see there are a lot of posts regarding this issue dating back more than a year. Personally I succeeded in installing Skype5.2 from an old installer I have. But I wanted to update to 6.2... and failed after several attempts. I am now attempting the Portable Apps Platform version which is a new concept for me but a very interesting one. Learning something here...

  • Skype won't install

I had to uninstall it because it would crash the second i opened it. Now that i'm reinstalling it, i open the SkypeSteup.exe thing and everything goes normally. The problem is, i've been stuck in the page that says "Skype is installing" for hours. The progress bar doesn't actually show any progress whatsoever.

OK, go to skype mobil.com and reisntall the application from their site.  In my case, I was re-directed to my carrier's site (Verizon) and downloaded from there.  Was able to sign-on after the download...

  • Skype won't install on Samsung Tab S 8.4

  • ILife '09 disk won't install on Lion - ejects!!!

I had to erase and reinstall Lion on my Macbook Pro. Now when I put my purchased iLife '09 software disk into drive it just ejects itself without installing. Any ideas why won't install as was working before Lion and I need iWeb??

Restart the computer first, see if that does anything.
    Then try resetting the PRAM.

If that doesn't do it, you have to figure out if it is the DVD or computer.  Do different disks work?  Does the disk work in a different computer?
Did you look at the bottom of the disk for finger prints and scratches.  Be nice when you clean it.  Don't scratch it more...
    Good luck!

  • When powering off my iPod touch, any application (facebook, viber etc)installed using App Store won't work again

When powering off my iPod touch, any application (facebook, viber etc)installed using App Store won't work again
    How to solve this issue?

Try a hard reset first. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If still no luck, try downloading and installing a new app from the App Store.  Doing so has cleared the issue up for several users.

  • I have iPhoto 11 installed on my iMac. Has been working for last several months ok. I am trying to create photo books but it gets hung up after I select create book. Does not create the project.  Used to work but won't create any projects

ILife 11 (iphoto 11) installed over a year ago with no issues. Have been creating Apple Books with no issues till now.  iPhoto now will not create books, calenders or anything else. After I select "create" it does nothing. Used to work Ok. Program seems to stall and do nothing. I can still look at events and other picture files but it will now not create a "project" / "book"  Anyone with a similar issue????

  • I have a PowerBook G4 with a non-functioning monitor.  It used to work with an external monitor, but I reinstalled the OS, which cleared the display preferences and now when I restart it won't detect the external monitor. How do I fix?

I have a PowerBook G4 with a non-functioning monitor.  It used to work with an external monitor, but I reinstalled the OS, which cleared the display preferences and now when I restart it won't detect the external monitor. This means I can't use the computer anymore. How do I fix? I tried using the Command+F2 keyboard shortcut, but it doesnt' work.  It's possible that since I reinstalled the OS, it still needs to be set up, so there's only a welcome screen (but since I can't see it I'm not sure).

There is no limit to the number of times you can re-install Office on the same computer.
    You can activate by telephone:

  • ITunes won't install on my Toshiba - it used to have iTunes!

iTunes won't install. It used to have iTunes, but I cleared it off when I thought I no longer needed the computer (big mistake). Now it's my only computer and I want iTunes back, but when I try to install it it reads "This installation package cannot be installed by the Windows installer package. You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer Service."
Now, how do I do that? I tried faffing about with installing this and that yesterday, but none of it seemed to work. I'm a stupid girl with no computer skills - I need definitive instructions!

Now, see, I did try that. My computer is now happily updating itself where it wasn't before, but still the same message. I also went and searched Google for a 'Windows Service Pack 2', which lead me to the microsoft site, which gave me the option of downloading the service pack. "Oh good!" I thought, "This will be fixed in no time!"
    Wrong.
I downloaded said service pack, tried to run it and it too decided not to work. It sprung up a message that was something like "There is nothing on your computer that needs this pack" or something like that.
Is my computer just so old that it's beyond saving? It is far older than a laptop should be, I know. I bought it in 2003. (I'd also like to point out that I'm not daft, I DID have a brand new laptop - which decided it didn't fancy having a working motherboard anymore. Clearly my ancient Toshiba is far more reliable.)

  • SKYPE won't work on 10.5.8

[Topic title updated by moderator to be more descriptive. Original topic title was: "SKYPE won't work "]
I have a MAC 10.58 and as of now (21/4/15) it won't let me open SKYPE how come as it worked yesterday?

Just to add to this when I try to get the latest version of skype for my mac version I get
Sorry, Skype no longer supports your version of Mac OS X.
You need Mac OS X 10.6.0 or above to use Skype. If you're thinking about updating soon, find out which version of Skype will work for you
Does that mean skype has stopped support for macosx 10.5.8? (I know many people including myself had problems last August regarding this, but don't recall anyone else having this problem recently).
Anyhow appreciate if someone can point me to the right direction (either use a different skype version or somehow hack the current one)

  • I am trying to install Mavericks on my McbookAir, but it won't install, saying that my hd is used for time machine backups. I have an external HD connected to my mbAir that I'm using for time machine.

2012 Macbk air, with OSX 10.8.5. See my question above. Mavericks won't install on my Air's HD, says that both the HD - AND - the external HD (which has a different name from the laptop HD) are used for time machine backups. I've deleted my time machine plists, restarted, repaired permissions, turned time machine off, repeatedly selected the external drive in time machine preferences. HELP. (Install went perfectly on my desktop Mac, which also has an external HD for time machine).

I need to add that the only place I have the "Backups.backupdb" folder is on my backup external disk, and it's not on my HD    :-(    . If it were, I'd delete it!

  • The computer I use at work is a PC. I know you are allowed to install the programs on two computers, one work computer and one laptop. My laptop is a Mac. Is it possible to install the second copy on a Mac?

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum for this question, but I don't know where else to ask about installing on cross platforms. So, the computer I use at work is a PC. I know you are allowed to install the programs on two computers, one work computer and one laptop. My laptop is a Mac. Is it possible to install the second copy on a Mac?

    Which Adobe product exactly?
    Cloud: yes.
    Creative Suite: no.

I think you mean Photoshop CS2.  Photoshop 2 is from around 1992.  The old Adobe activation servers were taken down. CS2 is about a decade old Adobe made a new download for old customers that legal customers can download and install. Download Acrobat 7 and CS2 products
