Skype won't open on HTC wildfire s

HTC Wildfire S (A510e) w/ CyanogenMod 10.1 & WiFi (home/office network), Skype v5.1.x or above
Skype gets installed but dosn't open, the icon just fades in after tapping andfades out after a while , no crash,no bug report, no FC.
Whereas an older version 4.9.0.x working smoothly fine.
Help here! fix the issue
let know how can I send you anymore detail

I fixed it myself. It was an OS problem. Doing a safe restart cleaned up the system by deleting cache files that must have been the culprit(s).

  • Safari, Mail, iTunes and Skype won't open

    Hi there Apple-Support-Team,
a few days ago I did an update of Safari, suggested automatically by Apple, but wasn't sure if the update was successfull (I had to leave the house).
Now all applications with internet connection (Safari, Mail, iTunes, Skype) won't open anymore. Not from the dock or the application folder. I checked my internet connection which seems to be working.
I've seen quite some reports in this forum but I am not sure if I'm having the same trouble as the other users. I get no error reports or anything else, the apps just don't open.
    Mac OS X version 10.4.11
    Safari 3.0.4
    Many thanks

    Welcome to the forums!
Did you restart your Mac after the install?
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have) and it is misbehaving:
N.B. Never delete Safari, never run it under Rosetta, don't use proxy settings, and don't change the application's name or move it from the top level of the Applications Folder to a sub-folder.
(If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall. Alternatively you can download Safari directly:
Safari 4.1.1 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
Safari 5.0.1 for Leopard (and Snow Leopard) can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070
Make sure you download the correct version for your system.
Also, observe the recommended procedure for installing software: repair permissions and close all applications, install, then repair permissions again.)
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta and which was updated to v.3.1.2, and now Tiger uses Safari 4.1.1 and Leopard uses Safari 5.0.1, as does Snow Leopard albeit a different version. If these latest versions of Safari are not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to a previous version of Safari can have repercussions, as previous versions of Safari used a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, but if you really want to do this post back for instructions on the safe way to do so.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-ons that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet, and the dreaded CT Toolbar. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for the latest version of Safari on your current operating system.
You must also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates. These require a restart and a permission repair.
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
    • Home/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
Lastly, the Safari updates require a restart of your Mac, and sometimes even a double restart is required.

  • Skype Won't Open (Concord ZTE V768)

As the subject states, Skype won't open. When i press the icon or press 'open' on the Google Play page, absolutely nothing happens. No error message, no attempt to open followed by immediate shutdown, no opening of the app. Any idea what might be happening here? Is Skype incompatible with my device?
Thanks in advance for your time.

I also encountered a similar problem with LTE phones 3. I have found the older version to install Skype on http://www.omnetic.com/apk/download-skype-for-android.html.

  • Skype won't open links

When someone sends a link on skype it won't open anymore. A few days ago it was working but then one day it just stopped. I have a Mac and I've been using Google Chrome.

    Hello,
Can you please confirm that the problem you are facing is different from the one reported earlier - [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/961242 Firefox not opening links from Skype].
Or is the issue that there is no activity when you click on a link from Skype. Do other links (say in Outlook / Word) open Firefox when you click them? We want to narrow this down to see if this is a Skype specific issue.
    Thank you

  • Skype won't open on a MacBook

Does anyone have any ideas on why the latest version of skype fails to open, and how to solve this problem?
    Many thanks.

maybe it would help to uninstall skype via appcleaner (free app) which claims all the data belonging to skype, then empty your trash, maybe reboot your mac and then just try to reinstall skype..
AppCleaner is a small application which allows you to thoroughly uninstall unwanted apps.
Installing an application distributes many files throughout your System using space of your Hard Drive unnecessarily.
AppCleaner finds all these small files and safely deletes them.
Simply drop an application onto the AppCleaner window. It will find for the related files and you can delete them by clicking the delete button.

  • Skype won't open, can't install any new software

Having initially been unable to install the latest version of Skype for Mac (v2.8) - a problem I seemingly overcame - I am now unable to open Skype at all.
I use Mac OS X 10.4.11. I have used Skype v2.7 for months with no problems. When I attempted to upgrade to v2.8, I had various problems with the installation process.
The program downloaded okay, but would give me an error message when I tried to open it to add it to my 'Applications' folder, saying 'disk image failed to mount - codec overrun'. I Googled this problem and found I could avoid it by hitting 'skip' before the error message appeared. Sure enough, the box appeared with the Skype icon which allowed me to drag it into 'Applications'.
However, even though I now have dragged the Skype icon to my 'Applications folder' and it appears to have have copied successfully, Skype will not open at all. When I attempt to open Skype, the icon simply bounces once on my dock and then stops. The program cannot be opened through any other means that I can find. Please help, as I use Skype regularly to keep in touch with my family back home.

Hi oldmateskip, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode. Reboot.
    Download a new copy...

  • Power outage and now Skype won't open (Fixed)

What it said in the title.
When I try to open Skype a new process is started and it appears to be doing something but nothing actually opens. (I'm computer illiterate but the process is about 70,000 K which seems large enough to actually be doing something)
I can attempt to re-open Skype but all that does is stack new processes.
I uninstalled Skype and re-installed and ran into the "problem connecting to download server" and I did all the things pertaining to that:
    SkypeSetup.exe
    SkypeSetupFull.exe
    SkypeSetup.msi
But after all that I still can't get Skype to "open".
...Right then, it's been 30 minutes since I last tried to fix it and for old-times-sake I tried to open it one more time and now it's working.
*sigh* I'm going to post this anyway cause something was wrong and something with the "fix" didn't work until enough time passed(?)

    Hello Elena,

What is the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer?
In Internet Explorer go to Help -> About Internet Explorer.
P.S. Please, don’t say that you are not using Internet Explorer. This is irrelevant. Skype depends on Internet Explorer.

  • Skype won't open or respond

Hello I am looking for some help. I downloaded skype about a week ago on windows 7 64bit and was working fine everyday now it will not open or really even respond when I click on it. My curser turns too a loading icon for a few seconds then nothing. I have uninstalled and re installed twice but the issue still remains.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Try first to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • Skype won't open with my mail user account

When I got my MacBook Pro, I transferred all my user accounts and applications over, including my Mail accounts. Now when I try to launch Skype, it appears to be opening, I see all my contacts but then the application quits.
I had 5 minutes at the Apple Store advice desk and they had me create a completely new user account. When I switch to this account I can login to Skype. They thought it might have something to do with authenticating online and that being blocked.
Any idea what might be the problem when I try to login with the account I actually want to use? Could part of it be corrupted? Any idea what I might try to get rid of or clean up to make Skype work?
    Thanks.

I meant "main" user account (not mail user account). thanks.
