Skype works, but can't load any websites via Chrome,Firefox and Safari

I am on Lion and I have been facing this issue since a week now.
I have 2 laptops connecting to the same wifi router. The other laptop is running Windows and browsers are able to load websites without any problem on that. But on my mac, I can run Skype, but browsers dont load any websites. Even I cant operate the Mail application, it opens but doesnt download any emails.
Since Skype is working I am sure the internet and my wifi are fine. I am guessing there is some issue with DNS. Am I correct ?
Although I dont know what to check to confirm whats wrong and how to rectify this problem. Has anyone faced and solved similar issue before?

mail would fail if the mail client is trying to resolve the mail server ie:   mail.yourdomain.com
if you want to test dns you can
open a terminal>
     nslookup www.apple.com
and to test dns via google public dns
     nslookup www.apple.com 8.8.8.8

Hello, I have an issue with surfing with Firefox. The browser starts but can't access any website. The same issue is experienced with Google Chrome. On the other hand, Internet Explorer works smoothly. Thanks

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set
to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your
updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow
    Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

What ever number I am dialing is ringing but no answer, that means the ringing tone I am hearing is not the actual ringing. I have checked with the person to whom I called through skype, they are saying that they are not getting any call. I have still my skype credit. Kindly help.

    Anybody had this issue?

Is there any message shown on the screen?
Power down the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait 10 minutes.
Plug it back in. Power it on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.
    Restart the computer.

  • STILL CAN'T LOAD ANY WEBSITES IN FF, ALTHOUGH NO PROBLEMS WITH IE OR AOL. I BELIEVE I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING SUGGESTED.

Mozilla FF page loads, but no websites whatsoever will open in FF. I've checked the No Proxy box, I've turned off my Windows Firewall. There is a Firewall for my Norton, but that's been there since day 1. One day I'm doing all of my FF things with no problem; the next morning I turn the computer on & nothing in FF will work. IE works fine; AOL works fine so my internet connection is not the issue. This is the message I get no matter what website I try to open (I also copied the troubleshooting text below this): Thank you for any help - this is truly driving me nuts!
    Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.aol.com.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

An update: as mysteriously as this began last Fri., it fixed itself (apparently) today. I left my computer on when I went out early this afternoon after again trying to open all kinds of websites in FF with no luck. When I returned from my errands it was back to normal - able to open all websites again. Evidently, the firefox elves snuck into my house while I was out & fixed whatever the issue was. I'd love to know what!

Hello, I have a 2nd Gen Ipod Touch and can't get any new games to load (because the 2nd generatiom requires new software, which isn't available). Is there a way to get older versions of games to load on the ipod?
    Thanks

To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was releases, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Safari fails to load any page. Chrome & Firefox all working fine. I've tried everything

Safari will not open any sites. I get the 'can't connect to the server' error page
Weird thing is the top sites page shows up and shows current website images, but click one and it won't connect
Its been like this for weeks, but isn't my main browser, and chrome and firefox have all been working just fine
I suspect it has something to do with the 5.1 update but can't really remember when that was installed
I've deleting the usual cookies and plist files, reset safari, trashed and reinstalled it, scanned for trojans, none have helped.
Now it's bugging me because i want to fix it before i upgrade to Lion

I have been having the same issue since upgrading to Lion and iOS5 last week.  I am not a Mac guru and have basic computer skills.  What are you referring to when you say:
"Someone had set a little snitch to deny connections to webprocess. Deleted all little snitch rules for webprocess, and it works just fine"
I would love to try this but have no clue what you're talking about.  General, basic English please!
    Thanks.

  • After updating firefox now I can't access any websites other than gmail and youtube

today I upgraded firefox now i can't open any windows on my computer except for google and youtube. can't go back to EI either.

    Hi,
I'm sorry you're having this issue with gmarks add-on. Maybe following answer from a top contributor will also work for you? (it helped another user whose gmarks didn't work after an update). See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/839481#answer-204324
    Thanks,

  • I know this may be a lame question, but can I use Thunderbird with my Chrome browser and gmail account?

I don't presently have firefox browser and have been very comfortable with Chrome for years now; can I use Thunderbird with my Chrome browser? I want to manage a large mailing list for a non-profit group that wants me to use Thunderbird.
    thank you,
    Reuben

If you got someone else email than that's a BIG error and it has nothing to do with whatever client you are using. You send your credentials to gmail and they connected to another account, not even Google would like to do that.
Either you send the wrong credentials and then you happend to have the same password as this other account. Try using webmail on that account.
Change your password!!! If you can access that account he/she can access yours.

  • Trying to install Presenter but getting no where with a "fatal error" message on chrome, firefox and safari.

Tried disabling firewalls, plugins, allowed java script... oy!  any ideas?

    Hi Jorma,
Thanks for your help   I initially tried to down load Captivate, but was having difficulty, it wasn't downloading, I looked at the specifications on the adobe site and realized I don't have a DVD-ROM drive.  I thought maybe that was my issue.
Upon further research I realized that the Adobe product Presenter could also work for my project and didn't have the DVD ROM requirement so I tried downloading that from the website.
I began using Safari, when I clicked the "trial button", it took me to the download page, where I logged in with my Adobe login and hit download.  Immediately an Adobe dialog box opened up - and it looked like it began processing the download, however within 5-7 seconds the fatal error appeared.  I tried several more times with the same result.
I googled the error message and was directed to the Adobe forum page, which was under construction but gave the advise to try the Adobe Twitter page.
Upon doing so, the agent who responded recomeended I try downloading from a different browser.  So, I did, I tried with Firefox and with Chrome, Both resulted in the same "fatal error" dialog box.
The agent recommended that i turn off firewalls, plugins, blocks etc... which, I tried... not sure if I did it right, but even so, got the same results and have been unable to download the trial.  Im not really that technically inclined to instinctively know what to turn off or on.... But I sure can follow directions   so, if you have an idea of how I could solve my issues that would be amazing!  I was just going to log on to the Apple store to see if I could get an appointment with a genius to try to help me... but would love to save a trip out in the sub temperatures and use up my day!!!!
.  I am using a Macbook Pro Retina, 15 inch (early 2013) with a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 of Memory, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.
Thanks again so much for your time!!!!

  • Can't load any websites. I do not get any "error messages", the "enter" button has no effect in the address bar. Works fine in the FF search box and in IE.

Entering a URL in the address bar and hitting enter does nothing. Neither the "enter" button or "address bar arrow", for going to the website, function. Website does not load and no error messages appear. "Enter" button works fine in the FF search box and in IE, so it's not my keyboard.
Tried most of the recommended fixes under the "Error loading websites" article with the exception of "DNS refetching", as typing "about:config" in the location bar does no good as the "enter button" won't function. I've removed and re-added FF back into the windows firewall, removed ZoneAlarm from my system, edited proxy settings, deleted and reinstalled FF several times. NOTHING WORKS!!! I'm a die hard FF fan and this is KILLING me. Please HELP!!!

You have a lot of information in packed in the "More system details..." (in the right-hand column), where it looks like you found a solution. If not take a look at "Problematic Extensions" the AVG Free installation of their "'''AVG Free Search'''" can cause such problems. Directions to fix that are specific and involve reinstalling AVG Free without the Link Scanner component.

  • Internet connected but can't access any websites

    Hi everyone,
I have wireless and my computer was working totally fine this morning. I didn't download any updates or anything and when I came home this afternoon it said that my computer was connected to the internet but when I try to open any webpages in Safari is just says that it is trying to load the page but never actually does. MSN messenger will not work either. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?? I know it is not the internet because our PC on the same network is working fine. Thanks in advance!
P.S. Not completely sure of my OS, still kinda new to Macs.

journey778, Welcome to the discussion area!
Your system information states OS 10.0.x. If you are using that version of OS X you do not have an Intel based iMac. I would suggest that you upgrade to OS 10.2 at least.
If you do have an Intel based iMac, you may want to try renewing the DHCP lease. Open System Preferences->Ethernet->Advanced... and click on the "Renew DHCP Lease".

  • Wifi will say that it is working but will not load any pages.

I’ve been having this problem for a while on my MacBook. It will connect to my home network and the little indicator says it is connected but whenever I try to load a page nothing will happen. I’ve tried a lot of things that haven’t worked and the router works for my roomates. I upgraded to mavericks and I think that has something to do with it. But I haven’t seen my specific problem on here so I thought I would give it a shot. If you have any suggestions that would be very helpful.  Thanks.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or your computer's firmware.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

    Hi,
Have you configure a DHCP role on your Virtual machine? To consider the DHCP conflicts issue, please first disable it or give it a pool limitation.
Then, let's check the DHCP client on your Windows 8.1 computer, if the status is stopped, please manually start it to check the results:
After that, please try to renew a ip address on your computer:
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
Can we get this issue fixed?
If not, please post back the event below for our research:
