SL and SPSS

Have just installed SL and very pleased opening all programs and starting back to work. However, my SPSS v17 will not work as apparently not compatible. Can i uninstall to go back to leopard or is there another work-around?

If you want to go back to Leopard, then you will need to do an erase and install. I would first try the Leopard (i.e., 10.5) DVD. But, you may have to use the Snow Leopard (i.e., 10.6) DVD for the erase part. Let's assume the first for now. Startup from the DVD by holding down c when starting up. Next, when able, choose your language and stop. Then, using the menus at the top, select Disk Utility and erase you drive. Next, quit Disk Utility and continue the install. After the install is complete, insert your Leopard applications disk and install the programs you want. Now, you are done.
In the other case, you will have to exit the installer after exiting Disk Utility. Next, you would startup with your Leopard DVD again by holding c down during startup. Now, after selecting your language again, just click install. After the installer is finished, install your applications as above.

  • Oracle and SPSS

    Hi,
Is there someone that already use SPSS with Oracle??????
I would like to call SPSS in my PL/SQL packages. I want to use some SPSS functions. and after use this results to continue my treatment in my PL/SQL
    procedure.
    how????
    [email protected]
    thanks
    bye

SPSS can act as COM-server. I'm not sure does DCOM-gateway works on OS others than Windows. You can purchcase Oracle database for NT (if none) and set up COM-controller in PL/SQL. Then move data to production database on Sun. There is special book in Oracle documentation set about writing COM controllers in PL/SQL

  • Trying to sum up the QHD/scaling problems and solutions

    Hello all,
For a while I've been thinking about buying the Yoga2 -pro, yet I was (and am) worried about the high resolution making everything too small to work with.
Since there are so many posts (some with conflicting stories) in this forum regarding this issue, I'm trying to sum up where things stand at the moment,  especially as for what solutions are there at the moment and how do they work.
My uses are very simple, I surf the web allot using chrome, I read many pdf files using PDF exchange viewer and zotero as a file manager, I also use office 2010/13, dropbox, and also two research related software called atas.ti and SPSS.
From what I've been reading there are two solutions -
    1. Using windows 8.1 new scaling option. This works for most programs but not for all.
My questions are: how bad is it when a progrma does not scale right. Is it still possible to use it ?
If anyone uses one of the programs mentioned above and can tell me how do they handle the highdpi setting It  would be great.
    2. I've seen some posts about people how set their screen resolution to a lower resolution, (usually regular HD) then the native one.
Is that works well as if the screen was a regular hd screen, or does it create different problems ? (if not that might be the solution for me, as I really don't care much for qhd)
    Thanks

I'm running 3200x1800 at 185% Windows scaling, and everything looks perfect.
Really, the screen is so good and sharp that going down from this resolution to 1920x1080 feels almost like going down from 1920x1080 to 1366x768.
There are only very few apps that don't scale properly and look tiny. Adobe's apps such as Photoshop, Viber, Dropbox, FastStone Viewer. Viber anyway has modern app, which works and behaves perfect.
If you want to keep your laptop for more than a year then I'd say it's well worth to go for a higher resolution. This trend is just accelerating.
But, even right now, practically all everyday desktop apps work perfectly at regular 3200x1800 resolution, with Windows scaling that you can choose, 200% being a default one.
When resolution is changed to 1920x1080 the resolution doesn't look at all that bad as I expected. In fact, it looks pretty decent. Maybe not as sharp as native 1920x1080 display, but pretty close. I bet most people would hardly notice a difference...
Normally, LCD displays look all blurry if set to anything else than their native resolution. But Yoga 2 Pro has pentile display, which doesn't have full 3 RGB subpixels for each pixel but more like 2 and half, and so it actually scales better and sharper when set to non-native resolution.
Additionally, the very high native resolution makes everything look better at non-native resolution, such as 1920x1080.
Bottom end - there's really no need, if at all, to run any other resolution than native 3200x1800. You just adjust Windows scaling to what you like and enjoy the super sharp screen.
I've read about this issue before I bought my Y2P, and was concerned a bit, but now that I have it and use it I see there's no reason for any worry.

  • Why SPSS 19 does not works with Mavericks?

I upgrade my operating system Snow Leopard to Mavericks and SPSS 19 does not work again.
I tried to install it  again and send me and SPSS show me and error of licence. Can you help me please?

Why do you want to use a h:commandButton and not an <input type="button"> or a <button>? I don't think that you want to execute a backing bean action. Anyway, in this case you can also add return: false; to the onclick event so that it prevents the button from submitting the form to the server.

  • SPSS is throwing up error 1327 after I installed Acrobat Pro. Any idea as to why + fix?

I recently installed Acrobat X for one of my users and he is now having an error with his SPSS software. Nothing else was done to his machine, so I beleive this has something to do with Acrobat or some of the other Adobe products I threw on there. This has never happened before and I have done countless installs.
    Thank you for your time.

Nevermind. Reinstalling the latest versions of the software fixed this issue. It looks like some files were overwriten and SPSS kept trying to reinstall intself.

  • SPSS amos

    Hi,
I need help with my macbook pro with Retina display: 2.6GHz Dual-core Intel i5, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM, 128GB PCle-based Flash Storage. Operating system: OS X Mavericks.
I want to install SPSS Amos on my mac (statistic analysis software from IBM).
I used to have SPSS Amos 5.0, which is free and available for download on internet. I looked for it, but from the information I found it looks like an SPSS Amos is not supported by Mac. I was not able to find any version to download.
Do you know how to install and run SPSS Amos on a Macbook?
In alternative, do you know any similar software I may use instead?
I thank you in advance for your help.
    Kind regards,
    Katia

Since SPSS Amos is only available to run under a Windows configuration, you have two choices. Install Windows as a Virtual Machine with a host program such as Parallels Desktop or use Boot Camp to create a Windows partition on your machine and run it there.
Since you only have 128GB of storage I would probably recommend going with Parallels (that, and it's what I use so I'm more comfortable with it). You would need to purchase Parallels ($80 USD or so?) and whichever copy of Windows you prefer (and SPSS Amos might use a particular flavor of Windows most efficiently so you'll need to Google and ask around).
There were rumors that SPSS Amos was going to be available for OS X a number of years ago, but those rumors never reached fruition. You'll just have to run it under Windows on your Mac.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Mac newbie returns to Windows

I was really looking forward to kicking Windows into touch. No more virus software, no disk defragging required. Simple Tiger operating system. Fast performance. Throw in a Mac Pro and I should have been full of joy.
The reality has been pure frustration. I found I had to dual boot to windows to make so many little jobs I do as routine work on the Mac Pro. Boy is Tiger lacking in so many areas. Mac Mail or Entourage are just so dated and frustrating to use. Office 2004 for Mac - well come on guys, does it really have to be that creaky? Compared to the Windows version, and the latest Office 2007, it is really so limited. Can't compress pictures in a document, for example so have to send larger folders with pictures in as a PDF.
The performance of Adobe Photoshop CS2 for Mac should have been stellar. Nope. Thrashed by CS2 running on my 4-year old IBM Thinkpad laptop; the programme did storm through work in its Windows version on the Mac, but you do not by a Mac to run Windows full time do you?
Much as I want to join your club it will need a few changes. Like simple, affordable personal finiance software that allows easy migration for MS Money. Or an email programme that allows you to list contacts by first or last names. Or a system that allows you to turn off certain toolbars and keep them turned off. Software that allows simple routeplanning to be made. The ability to run RAW picture conversions without locking up. Safari allowing personal data to be stored, so allowing access to multiple on-line bank finance mangement systems from one site. Support for keyboards that help those with RSI. Ditto with track balls. Or even a few more printer drivers; failure to work 2 out of three of my printers, the oldest of which is 2 years, is not encouraging.
I could go on. In fact I did - I spent over 50 hours just trying to make a working system of of a Mac and OS.X Tiger operating system. It just could not be done. I even tried doing it the Mac way for five solid days. It was like going back to an abacus.
All in all I am just so dissappointed. My 2 weeks with an Apple Mac has shown me the grass is not greener on the other side. Windows XP may stink - Vista is too dreadful to even consider - but the Tiger was so tame I won't be coming back.
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

As another Mac newbie I thought I'd share some of my frustrations with OSX, but also why I won’t be returning to windows anytime soon. I've built PC's for almost 7 years, so I know exactly how much flexibility you have in both building and operating a windows PC. I also know the exact definition of compatibility. Thousands of different manufacturers making parts for PCs is a nightmare, if you don’t believe me build a computer, I dare you. Over my years building computers I have pulled out more hair, lost more files, and nearly broke so many parts I prefer to not talk about it. So finally when it was time to upgrade I thought about a Mac. Problem was I wanted a computer that had some flexibility in terms of upgrading. I was absolutely blown away by the cost of powermacs. I could build a new PC, no exaggeration, for well less than half of what a powermac would cost me. Not to mention a powermac g5 was already a generation old. So I caved and bought a dell for dirt cheap, cheaper than even what I could build a PC for. Not only that I thought maybe vista is a savior so I got my new dell with windows vista. Lets just say my brand new computer (I bought the dell in February) ran drastically slower than the nearly 6 year old computer it was replacing. Not to mention I had to go buy a new wireless card, and most of my software didn’t work. Vista looks pretty, actually it looks just like OSX, but it runs terrible unless you have a top-of-the-line computer. Anyway to make a long story short someone on craig’s list was getting rid of their powermac and they needed a new windows PC so we traded. I also recently bought a powerbook g3 so I’m 100 percent Mac now. I’ve been using OSX for a few weeks now and I’ve read some articles on making the switch. I’ve found how incredibly easy OSX is to use and how intuitive many of the features are. There are a few downsides to using a Mac I certainly understand. One is the lack of software support. I regularly use Reference Manager and SPSS, two programs that are unfortunately not supported in OSX. However I normally use these programs at work, so for now I can go without them at home. I suppose there are two other complaints I have about Apple and Macs. I’ve found that first, Macs don’t like non-Apple parts. Buy a third-party anything and you’re in for a headache. Second, what was common knowledge on a PC means nothing on a Mac. Installing an airport card took me more than a day because I didn’t know what I was doing and my mind was still thinking windows. I’ve been frustrated more than a few times with my new Mac, but the problems have been entirely because of my naïve understanding of Macs and OSX. All in All though I completely understand that Macs aren’t for everyone, especially people who use a lot of professional software. For me though the choice is easy, I want a computer that is easy to use, does basic tasks, and for the love of all things holy doesn’t crash and lose my data. Everything after that I will learn to cope with. For these reasons I am sticking it out and learning the full feature set of OSX.

  • Does quality of screenshot image depend on screen res?

I have to include screenshots of  data analysis screens (Excel and SPSS) for some writing I am doing. I have been capturing screenshots and saving them as .png files. My question is: does the quality of the screenshot image depend on the resolution of the monitor, or is it independent of the display? That is, if I take a screenshot from a low-res monitor versus a high-res one (e.g., retina display) of a particular Excel spreadsheet, will it make any difference in the resolution of the image that is saved? Wondering whether the screenshot takes an image from the actual displayed image or from the source code (in which case it may be unaffected by the quality of the monitor). I need screenshots as high quality images, as these will be printed by the publisher.
I am using Grab on a Mac and also using GreenShot on Windows to take the screenshots.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Subbu

After thinking about your post and you are sending this project to a publisher/printer. You best bet is to give the publisher/printer a call and ask them. If you send something that they can't use... they will have to redo what you have done and charge you for it.  A computer screen shot when it comes to printing is low-resolution. Especially images that contains mostly text, for example; Excel spreadsheets. You will be sending them a grayscale image. (You should be sending a bitmap image. Bitmap images need to be three times the resolution compared to a grayscale image.)
(I was in the publishing/printing business for over 28 years and had to deal with this on a daily basis with customers supplied images. Either the images were too blurry or pixilated when printed... looks good on the screen, looks bad on the printed paper. Nine times out of ten we had to redo the customers supplied images.)

  • Undergraduate student interested in Analytics

    Hi,
I am currently an incoming 3rd year undergraduate student studying economics and statistics. I want to apply for a masters in business analytics. It is to my understanding that knowledge of languages such as SQL, SAS, and SPSS will all be important for what I want to do.
I have some programming experience with VBA and Java, but I want to learn these three. I want to show on my resume and have some metric of defining my own progress through certifications.
Knowing SQL is a really important skill because it is valuable for database queries for analysis. I don't want to be dedicated to databases and structures and would rather use them as tools for the purpose of deriving valuable analysis and models. I think it would be useful to take the certification for SQL Fundamentals 1 (1Z0-051) and see how that goes, next use it as a basis for potentially taking SQL Certified Expert (1Z0-047). For 11g? I'm not sure which version I should try for.
My other option is the Microsoft Solution Expert: Business Intelligence. However, I would eventually want to work for a fortune 500 company which mainly use Oracle. Also the MCSE is divided into too many (5) different tests, which cover potentially valuable skills, but I am not sure how applicable they would be.
For SAS I will try to get my SAS Certified Base Programmer for SAS 9.
And SPSS, IBM Certified Associate/Specialist SPSS (Maybe)
What do you guys thinking? Am I over my head with this?
    Thanks.

I don't know about SAS and SPSS, so won't comment on that.
I know that MCSE Business Intelligence and SQL Certified Expert are very challenging/complicated. Even MCSA SQL Server is for pro. IMHO you can't pass those tests without real world experience. And I also think that those exams made for people with IT background (not economics and statistics).
Try to pass SQL Fundamentals 11g without brain dumps. You will see the level and effort you need for preparation. I guess it's a good first step.

  • I found Error in Statistics Express about the algorithm for mode

LabVIEW 7.1 was used. today I acquired a lot of data and analyzed using Statistics Express in LabVIEW 7.1, whereas the results of mode were not correct because I analyzed the data using both Excel and SPSS. so I think there must be something wrong with Statistics Express in LabVIEW 7.1. Attached is the data which mode is 57.24 by SPSS, but the result of Statistics Express showed the result of 32.608.
    will someone please help me?

    Hi,
I agree the 2 places of decimals is a cosmetic property and I have no issue with that....
I have my vi setup such that at one call it gets the mode of distances between points on lines. The second time I call the mode it is to get the mode of distances between another set of points. Two separate arrays in a fairly large program. I've attached a shortened sample hopefully the error still appears. Also I was wrong about wiring the intervals wire, this did not change anything.
If I run the 2nd mode operation on it's own without the previous call it works fine, only when there is a previous mode operation does it fail to "re-initialise" and returns the result of the first mode operation.
The only thing I can think of is that the first set of data has many different distances and gives a clear mode, whereas the second set has values approximately the same, with the odd multiple (ie 20,22,19,41,62,20,21,23). However, going against this is the Express Statistics vi which calculates the correct values in the Express Window (double clicking on it and selecting the statistics) but when wiring these to an indicator the result from the first mode operation is returned.
    Any suggestions welcomed.
    Kind regards,

  • ODM Decision Tree result

I am using Oracle Data Miner with an Oracle 10g Database. I would like to know if there is a tool or a plug-in for ODM to watch the Decisional Tree, resulted of executing the Decision Tree Algorithm, as a tree. Could you help me?
    Thanks in advance!
    .javier

    HI Javier,
I know I responded to your internal email on this question but I will respond here as well for the OTN folks.
ODMr 11 will be providing a full decision tree graphical viewer.
ODMr 10.2 does not have any plugin capability.
It is quite reasonable to implement a decision tree viewer of your own, the first step would be to locate a diagram tool that meets your needs and then use the ODM api to get the detail data.
ODM also has partnerships with Inforsense and SPSS(Clementine) that do have dt viewers but I am not sure if they have fully integrated them for ODM yet.
    Thanks, Mark

    Hi Joachim,
I recently recieved the same error with my new Mac Book Pro, running Lion, and SPSS 18.  I believe this is an issue related to v18.0, and if you update to 18.3 and run the hot fix, you problem should be solved (it worked for me).  Instructions can be found here  http://www.fizur.com/professional/technology/spss-pasw-mac-patch-18-0-3-and-grap hing-fix/, as IBM no longer seems to support earlier than 19.

  • Clinet device mapping..

I am trying to use CDM so user could use Windows share folder. I am following the direction listed in ‘Admin Guide’ on page 262.
This is what I did so far:
I started creating a share folder on one of the Windows 2003 machine. Machine name is SGDOFFICE10 and folder name is SGDOFFICE. Shared folder is available and easily could be mapped from any Windows machine.
I also installed SGDEnhancement Module for MicrosoftWindows on same machine.
Next, I modified client.prf file as listed below:
    ## Config file for the ttatdm daemon.
    [setup/version={(4.5)}]
    [nfsserver/mount/port={(4242)}]
    [nfsserver/mount/realserver={(sgdoffice10)}]
    [nfsserver/mount/mountpoint={(/sgdoffice$)}]
    [nfsserver/client/timeout={(5)}]
    [nfsserver/server/usercache/mode={(0)}]
    [nfsserver/server/encoding/rpc={(UTF-8)}]
Then I logon to SGD admin site and enabled CDM under global settings.
Next I am trying to start CDM process on application server:
    # /opt/ta_tem/bin/tem startcdm
    But getting the following error:
    # tem startcdm
    Starting the ttatdm daemon...
Using configuration file client.prf from /opt/tta_tem/etc.
    Started OK. Process ID: 30553.
mount.nfs: mount point /sgdoffice$ does not exist
    Failed to mount /sgdoffice$
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Habib.

    Hi Dave,
That’s true, I am trying to map Windows shared folder through SGD client via web.
    http://server.com/SGD
    Regarding
    - what's your application server (what applications are you accessing via SGD)?
Windows 2003 servers running SAS and SPSS applications.
    - what's your client platform?
Windows XP or Windows 7, using IE 8.
If you are only doing Windows server share to SGD server, how do you plan to make that available to your users? And to what user devices?
Based on my understanding of what I read (I may be completely off) I am assuming this is should be available as another mapped drive within application.
I am looking at this site:
    http://secure.accessaims.com/tarantella/help/en-us/base/gettingstarted/cdm.html
I would like to accomplish almost same, except instead of physical drive, I would like to map a shared folder.
Looking at the ‘Client Device’ portion of ‘Global Settings’ in SGDADMIN console, it says:
Gives users access to the drives or file systems on their client device from applications running on an application server. Changes take effect for new user sessions
I am wondering how that file system works without being mapped this on client machine.
Technically when we RDP to windows box all the mapped drives on that box is available to user, worse come worse I could map the shared drive there.
Thanks again for all the hlelp.

  • Can't install drivers, help!

So after my 4 year old Macbook began having serious issues that Apple could not figure out they decided to give me a new computer to replace it. And since the old Macbook had a Firewire port, and the new ones do not, they upgraded me to the 13" Macbook Pro. On my old system I was running OS10.6.3 with the most updated version of Windows XP on the 40GB partition. I used Winclone (recommended as a full backup software by the Bootcamp tech at Apple Care and cloned my XP onto an external drive. I got the MBP and it has the configuration below. I partitioned the drive as an NTSF successfully. I then used Winclone and was able to successfully load my Windows clone from my old computer. Much to my delight Windows booted up and seemed to work fine. Then I started getting "new hardware found" popups like crazy. It is also asking me to register the copy of Windows. So I inserted the OSX disk and tried to load the drivers. It loaded the NVIDIA drivers successfully. However as the computer starts trying to load the "Keyboard drivers" it does not progress, even overnight. I followed Apple's bootcamp instructions and used Windows Explorer to locate the individual drivers on the disk. They act like they are loading but never do. Then I tried going on line to search for drivers, but found that I do not have wireless (drivers I assume) on the Windows side. Also, the SPSS software, which was the only reason for me to put Windows on the MBP, now says it is not licensed. So I need help figuring this out. Any further info needed please let me know.
    Hardware Overview:
    OS: 10.6.3

    Hi,
transfering a Windows installation from one computer to another one is always a feat.
The outcome can range from 'it worked' to not even be able to boot, due to the very nature of different hardware components.
Microsoft offers a tool called Sysprep http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B302577&x=7&y=11 for such a task, but for you it is now useless.
XP wants to be reactivated due to these hardware changes. Maybe with SPSS ist's the same.
What you may try, short of a complete reinstall of Windows and SPSS, is to completely remove the old Apple BootCamp Drivers (via Control Panel - Software) and then use the OSX DVD that came with your new MBP to install the Drivers from scratch.
If you can't successfully boot into XP the normal way, you can try the safe boot options as described in here http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B315222&x=10&y=11
For just troublesome graphics driver, DriverSweeper is a tool you can use http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
    Hope it helps

What are the supported Macintosh Operating System versions for IBM SPSS Statistics 18,19 and 20?
    Question
I would like to know what are the supported Macintosh Operating system versions for IBM SPSS Statistics versions 18, 19 and 20?
    Answer
    Please see the list below:
    - IBM SPSS Statistics 18 and 19 releases are supported on Apple Macintosh OS 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) with Intel processor.
    - IBM SPSS Statistics 20 release is supported on Apple Macintosh OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and 10.7 (Lion) with Intel processor.
    - The IBM SPSS Statistics versions 18 and 19 are not supported on Mac OS 10.7 (Lion).
THIS MEANS THAT TO USE LION ONE FIRST HAS TO UPGRADE TO SPSS STATISTICS 20.

Whilst the 2012-02-15 edition of IBM's matrix does not mention Lion, a few users have noted that:
    • 18.0 can be troublesome
    • an updated version of 18.x should be better.
