SL can't access setup for aluminum Bluetooth keyboard

Snow Leopard can't find my bluetooth aluminum keyboard when I click "Setup Bluetooth Keyboard..." button in Keyboard portion of the System Preferences. When I go to System Prefs and try to access the settings, SL just spins the progress wheel and times out. Here's the screen shot:
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/6061/screenshot20090904at420.png
I've tried removing batteries, deleting the keyboard from the Bluetooth prefs and then repairing it. Still, I cannot access my keyboard prefs.
Anyone have some ideas?

I am having a similar problem. This problem was happening in Leopard and now also in Snow Leopard. So perhaps it is a bad keyboard.

The thing is, it actually sees the MAC address. But that is only when I first turn on the keyboard. So perhaps it is only discoverable for about 1 second because when it tries to connect to the keyboard it always fails. Even if I turn it off and then back on while it is trying to communicate. Lame.

  • Getting quite frustrated with my iPhone 4S.  Can't access WIFI and/or Bluetooth nor will my computer allow it to be a "hotspot" unless physically tethered to computer.  It started acting up after download....it also has messed up some app

I've only had this phone since Sept. and have already had to have the speaker replaced.  NOW I can't access wifi and/or bluetooth (both are grey).  I can't use the Personal Hotspot either (and the passcode no longer shows up).  I can only access internet via the phone through the USB.  This started over the past few days (and after I updated to IOS).
Some of my apps no longer work either...over 100+ hours of audiobooks on Audible can't be accessed as the Audible app just shuts off.
Any recommendations on how to recify?   I'm pretty rural so downloaded anything takes going to the next town over to get a signal from the library...  and all of my searching is eating into my 5gb limit through ATT....so it is a bit irritating

called Apple Care this a.m....new upgrade on 12/31/12 is supposed to fix the "bug"

  • Can iPad be setup for subscription to podcast? How?

Can iPad be setup for subscription to podcast? How?

Not as a standalone solution if you want stuff like live view and all the camera controls on the iPad. If it's just for transferring photos to the iPad for immediate viewing after shooting the Shuttersnitch app comes to mind. Shuttersnitch however requires a WiFi connection that most Nikons don't happen to have. Nikon's wireless dongles for the consumer range of cameras are also somewhat awkward to use whereas the wireless/Ethernet units for the pro range happen to be very expensive. WiFi SD-cards are also a possibility for retrofitting WiFi but they tend to be unreliable, slow and their setup is quite often finicky.
Another solution would be tethering the camera to a laptop (Win or Mac) through USB and connecting the iPad as a secondary wireless tethering device to the computer. There are programs for Mac and Windows incorporating this feature. I once set this up for a friend who does a lot of studio work but it ended up that he just uses the USB-connected laptop almost exclusively. And unless one would be out for a timelapse shooting already carrying tons of gear not a solution for shooting in the field.
Last not least but also not exactly inexpensive is the Camranger remote control for Nikon and Canon DSLRs. It connects to the camera through USB and has its own server and WiFi built in which allows to connect to iOS, Android, Mac and Windows (apps for all available by Camranger themselves). Probably the most flexible and comfortable solution especially when considering that it can be used for multiple cameras and will mot likely also work with future cameras. More information can be found at http://www.camranger.com (I'm in no way affiliated with them and personally don't own a Camranger remote so I would advise some more web research on user experiences).

  • Trick for Pairing Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse With Windows 7 in BC 3.1

    My Mac:
    Mid-2007 iMac 20", 2.4 GHz; OS X 10.6.2; Windows 7 Home; Boot Camp 3.1
    My Problem:
No matter what I tried, including all kinds of tips and tricks found in this forum and elsewhere on the web, I could not get my Apple aluminum bluetooth keyboard and bluetooth Mighty Mouse to pair in Windows 7. Windows 7's bluetooth setup panel would see them, from time to time, but never connected.
The same pair connected quite easily with Snow Leopard, and the keyboard connected before I installed BC 3.1 in Win 7 (never did get the MM to connect in Win 7 with BC 3.0). But with BC 3.1 in Win 7, it was no dice for either one until I made an accidental discovery.
While prepping another Apple bluetooth aluminum keyboard for my wife's Mac Mini, it was seen by my iMac's Win 7, which wanted to pair with it.
Aha! A Big Clue! The Win 7 BC 3.1 generic bluetooth drivers wanted to pair with an aluminum keyboard that wasn't already paired with the iMac. So, I booted back into Snow Leopard, connected a USB mouse and keyboard, renamed the bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and then deleted them. I rebooted back into Win 7, then easily set up both renamed mouse and keyboard which paired quickly with Windows.
Note that I first tried deleting them from the Snow Leopard side first, but Win 7 still wouldn't pair with them. That's when I went back to Snow Leopard and renamed them but didn't pair them with the iMac until it was booted into Win 7.
Finally, I rebooted back into Snow Leopard and paired the keyboard and mouse with OS X. Done.
Hope this trick/tip/hint helps someone else with keyboard and mouse bluetooth pairing problems.

You're welcome. My discovery was quite accidental, but that's often how things happen ... if you're paying attention and are looking for clues.
Sorry you had to trial and error before you succeeded, but as you've probably found, it is necessary to rename the bluetooth devices first, then delete them from OS X.
I don't understand why this trick was necessary, or even what caused it to happen. I've got 6 Win 7 installations via Boot Camp on 6 Intel Macs (2 white MacBooks, 1 Unibody MacBook, a Core Duo Mac Mini, a 27" iMac and the 20" 2.4 Mid-2007 iMac). All were running 10.6.2 and Win 7 (aren't Family Packs wonderful?) via Boot Camp 3.0 more or less without problems, except as noted in my first post.
Only the 20" iMac had problems after the Boot Camp 3.1. Not only did I have a devil of a time pairing the keyboard and mouse, but I also lost the Win 7 activation on the iMac 20" and the OS X partition started showing up as "EFI Boot". All happened right after I updated Boot Camp 3.0 to 3.1 via download from Apple while running Win 7.
I've heard reports of other Mac users discovering Boot Camp had done a FUBAR job on their machines, but this is my first experience. My guess is that there's some dialogue going on between 10.6, Win 7 and Boot Camp that shouldn't be happening. What I really don't understand is why my other 5 Macs didn't have any problems at all with the Boot Camp upgrade to 3.1. Let's hope the Apple Boot Camp team can reverse engineer my discovery and improve the next version of BC.

  • Aluminum bluetooth keyboard problem

I have an apple aluminum bluetooth keyboard. It is one of the older models that requires 3 batteries. It has had very little use. I am going on a trip and decided to take it and the green light comes on, but won't blink for pairing with my new MBP. I have tried numerous sets of new batteries. The light will come on when depressed, but then goes out and won't blink, so the pairing can't take place. The pairing will start, but then the light goes out right away and won't blink. It doesn't matter whether I turn it on with a short or prolonged press on the on button.
    Any ideas?

No Luck. Deleted the old one. The keyboard will pair with another Mac...but hangs with this one. The computer sees it, attempts to pair with it, and then says that the pairing was unsuccessful - without even giving me a chance to enter the numbers that one normally does. It just says, "The pairing was unsuccessful. Make sure you device is in range of this computer, turned on and "discoverable." When ready, click Continue and try again."

  • Aluminum Bluetooth Keyboard - Caps Lock Issue

I've purchased the new Apple aluminum bluetooth keyboard, and I'm noticing that the caps lock key has some issues... first off, the little light that indicates the key is on/off rarely comes on. Second, the capslock key doesn't register each time it's depressed, making typing very awkward because I'm quite the proficient typer, and I use the capslock key to type all my uppercase characters, even single characters (goofy, I know), so I often type a word or two in caps before I stop myself and go back.
I've been using Apple laptops for several years now, so I'm quite used to the flat keys and I'm sure I'm depressing the key correctly as I type. I've also tested it quite thoroughly by carefully pressing it down, just to see if I'm certain, although these tests are somewhat hampered by the first issue (no light to indicate wether it's really on or not).
The keyboard is brand new (it's not even a week old), and I'm not sure if it might just be a manufacturing flaw with this particular unit or if it's software related (as there has already been one patch for this line of keyboards this week). Other then that, it runs great and feels amazing (especially being used to a laptop keyboard). It's also light as a feather! However, is anyone else experiencing any issues like this?
    Alex

New development: I've noticed my caps key (incl. light) has been working how I would describe as "as intended" for the last few hours; ever since I bumped the power key on the side of the battery tube earlier while picking up the keyboard. I'm not sure if this is the cause of my recent success, but I'll look into it.
I'm thinking more and more this is a software related issue. Perhaps Apple will look into how the various states the keyboard can be in (I'm sure there must be a few, or perhaps in relation to the state of the system) might affect the caps key. It sounds weird, I know, but things seem to be working just fine now. I'm not sure how long that will last of course; I'll post again if/when it stops working, which my guess will be tomorrow after I've let my system go to sleep for the night, but that's speculation based on the fact that my MBP has other "wake from sleep" quirks I've learned to deal with...maybe this is one of them.

How can I access and use the alphabetical keyboard of the phone ? I cannot find the answer in the manual of use.  Thanks for your help !

RE: iPad Air and Apple Wireless Keyboard
HI,  I have an iPad Air paired with an Apple Wireless Keyboard.  Can I access emoji from the wireless keyboard?
Thanks for any help on this subject!

Eureka!   I kept searching and found the solution.   So, if anyone wants to know here is the solution:  press fn and the up arrow on F Keys (top) row (it's the one all way to the right.  The iPad keyboard will then pop up on the iPad and from there you can access the emoji keyboard.

  • Internet working but can't access AirPort for configuration changes

I have an AirPort Express and it connects to the internet properly through my cable modem -- solid green light and all -- and allows my PC to surf wirelessly.
    Sounds pretty good, but...
For some reason I can't access the AirPort Express to change any of the settings. For example, I would like to change the SSID and the IP numbering scheme to give out 192 IPs, but when I open the Admin Utility I can't see the AirPort Express. When I try to access it manually in the utility by hitting "Other..." and entering the IP that my PC is assigned on the network (10.0.1.2), it puts up a window that says "Reading configuration from base station", then an error message with code -6753.
I know it is working, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this right now, but how to I access it???
Thanks in advance for someone helping me out.

journey778, Welcome to the discussion area!
Your system information states OS 10.0.x. If you are using that version of OS X you do not have an Intel based iMac. I would suggest that you upgrade to OS 10.2 at least.
If you do have an Intel based iMac, you may want to try renewing the DHCP lease. Open System Preferences->Ethernet->Advanced... and click on the "Renew DHCP Lease".

  • Just updated to osx, can't access quicken for Mac anymore

I just uploaded OSX to my I-Mac. I like the upgrade but it does not support quicken for Mac 2007 and suddenly I cannot access it. I can purchase quicken essentials for Mac but need to know how I can access the old records and transfer them to the new program. The new upgrade will not open the old files. Do I need to remove the upgrade first?

Quicken has an upgrade for Qicken that will run on a Mac. It is not Quicken Essentials, as far as I know.

  • IMac will not connect to my aluminum bluetooth keyboard

I have the original aluminum bt keyboard from Apple (the one that takes 3 batteries, instead of 2). It will not connect to my 24" white Intel Core 2 Duo iMac at all. I've tried everything I can think of and it's just not connecting.
The bluetooth magic trackpad connected just fine. The bt on the iMac must be working.

I am not sure the "three days" has anything to do with it. I had the same issue with my keyboard and my imac. I called apple support, did several resets, talked to the second level support to which he said your keyboard is connected to another mac. I disconnected from my other mac it worked.
Now my MacbookPro with a different keyboard has the same problem. It must be the lion and the bluetooth update ( I read there was a "speed up" on bluetooth).
The support guy also told me that there is a Lion update coming up, hopefully in a couple weeks. This is a major snafu for Apple when their own keyboards don't work with the new version of the operating system.... Oooops!!!
