SL can't print over the network to Epson AcuLaser CX11NF

I create a bonjour print queue in snow leopard to the Epson AcuLaser CX11NF and it fails to print with with Yellow Triangle Unable to connect ot printer; will try in 30 seconds
Then I get the following error
/Library/Printers/EPSON/LaserPrinter/GD2/filter/pdftoescpage.app/Contents/MacOS/ pdftoescpage failed
On the same network with another MAC running OS X 10.5.x it an print no trouble. Also if I connect to the 10.5.x shared printer I can print from SL.
I just updated to 10.6.1 and it didn't fix a thing.
I can print if I directly connect via a USB cable to the printer.
Why is printing so broken in SL, did they ship it before they completed development and testing ?

This may or may not be of help to Snow Leopard users, but printing to my CX11NF via the USB port on my Airport Extreme (the first n version, not the current one) is problematic but workable from both my Dual G5 and my wife's 15 inch MacBook Pro (late 2008), both running Leopard. There were no issues with Tiger, but Leopard introduced an incompatibility with Epson Status Monitor3. ESM3 crashes or freezes after any print job (or queue of print jobs), and this usually results in having to restart either the Mac or the Airport Extreme. I've found that manually quitting the Epson AL-CX11 driver, then quitting or, more often, force quitting the ESM3 after a print job allows subsequent printing without having to restart. (I do this using Dock menus.) The workaround isn't 100 percent successful, but it comes reasonably close. As this printer has been discontinued for a couple years now, Epson is extremely unlikely to update drivers for it. So far, I'm reluctant to upgrade my wife's MBP to Snow Leopard, as there's no way to know in advance if it will defeat the workaround. If anyone using Snow Leopard has success printing through an Airport Extreme's USB port to the CX11NF, please post it here.

  • Airport won't print over the network

I have a basic HP Photosmart C4200 series printer. It works fine when I plug it directly into my computer but when I plug it into the router, it won't print and this message comes up : "Unable to read response header - short read"
When I delete/add the printer from Preferences, it finds the printer and establishes connection but when I try to print over the network, it gives me that error message.
A weird thing I found was that when connected to the airport, my printer shows up under the iDisks tab under the Airport Utilities instead of being in the Printers tab...

    Welcome to the discussions!
A number of entry level printers are designed so that they will only work when they are connected directly to a computer, so that may possibly explain your problem.
To verify, you can work your way through Apple's troubleshooting guide to see if this is the case. If you've completed all the steps and still can't print, I think you have your answer.

  • Before I had Mavericks I was able to print over the network to a Windows PC. Now I receive the message, "connection refused." Any ideas?

Before I upgraded to Mavericks, I was able to print over the network to a printer attached to a Windows PC. Now, I receive the message, "connection refused." any ideas as to why this may be and what I can do about it would be appreciated.

I had reconfigured all of the settings the same as in the previous OS X. The only thing I can think of that may be causing this is that the printer is an older Canon Pixma iP4300 and the Canon site doesn't have a driver for the new OS X. The Canon site said that the new OS X may supply the driver. Is there any one with the same experience as mine?

  • Access Denied error when trying to print over the network

I just upgraded my Internet service and leased a new modem. My laptop is connected to the network and is able to browse the Internet. I have file and printer shared tuned on on both the desktop and the laptop. The printer is listed on my laptop, but I cannot print over the network to my HP PSC 1401 All In One. I get an Access Denied error even though the printer should still be connected to the network.

  • Remote Downlevel Document - printing over the network

I have a PSC (Printer Scanner Copier) HP F380 connected to a windows pc in my network.
I'm trying to print trough the network over Airport.
I can add the printer (it's found under the WINDOWS TAB when I'm adding the printer) and I sucessufuly login using the windows usr/pass ... (I have the correct permissions set in the printer).
The thing is all the documents I sent from my mac (Leopard) are showing up in windows as REMOTE DOWNLEVEL DOCUMENT, and tough they have the right size (it's not 0kb), they never print.
I tried desabling bidirectional support as I read on the web, but it was no help.
Any ideas ? Thanks in advance,
    Felipe, Brazil.

When it finds the drive automatically what driver name is displayed? That's the one you look for. If the PC printer is properly shared, then you should see a list of shared printers. Select the shared printer and the driver should be found. If it isn't, then select the one that was used when the printer was directly connected to your Mac.
If that doesn't help then see: iFelix's Technical Pages for XP and the Mac.

  • Unable to print to USB printer over the network

    Hi all,
I have an iMac and an Macbook Air, both running 10.6.4, and I've got an HP LaserJet 1200 printer connected to the iMac by USB. Both machines are on my home wireless network (Linksys, FWIW).
I seem to be unable to print to the LaserJet over the network from my Air. I've tried all manner of permutations of printer setup on the Air: IPP/LPD/HP JetDirect; entering the hostname (*.local) and the IP address of the host; leaving the queue blank and not; and leaving "Print Using" as generic vs selecting the LaserJet drivers. The printers appear in the "Default" Add Printer menu as Bonjour Shared, but this doesn't seem to work either.
Following other threads, I've tooled around with CUPS (resetting the configuration file, etc.), with no success. The other threads I've found on the subject seem to be more specifically addressed to folks trying to use an AirPort.
Any suggestions for what to try next?

In that case, let me elaborate on what happens when I try to set up the printer via Bonjour, in case there are any clues in the behavior that I'm seeing. The printer seems to appear twice in the "Default" pane, with Kind as 'Bonjour Shared' and Printer Names as follows:
    HP LaserJet 1200 @ (hostname)
    HP LaserJet 1200 @ (hostname) @ (hostname)
Selecting the first, it displays "Gathering printer information..." for a few minutes, then strikes out, suggesting Generic PostScript Printer rather than the correct driver. Whether I stick with that or select the correct driver manually and then try to print, it hangs on 'Copying print data..." (in the print queue).
Selecting the second, it gathers printer information only for a second or two before settling on Generic PostScript Printer. If I stick with Generic PostScript Printer, it hangs on 'Connected to printer...' but if I select the correct driver, it hangs on 'Copying print data...' again.

  • Can't Print Over Wireless Network to HP OfficeJet 6210 connected to XP Comp

I've been trying in vain for the better part of a week and a half to print from my MacBook Pro (w/ Leopard 10.5.5) over my wireless network (Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router) to an HP OfficeJet 6210 connected to my Dell Desktop running Windows XP SP3. I CAN however, both see and print to the printer with a PC laptop running Windows Vista. I've both re-installed and upgraded the drivers to the Windows XP desktop AND the MacBook Pro for the printer and still can't come to a conclusion. I am able to print to the printer from the MacBook Pro when plugged directly in via USB. I've tried to add the printer via "Windows" tab in printer configuration by choosing the network, then the computer, then entering the administrator accounts user name/password, however I'm still unable to print from the MacBook. Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi LukeZim,
Sorry, but drivers on OS X aren't like on Windows (yet), where a driver is just a component in a system that works for all the comm protocols the computer can do. That's the way it would be if manufacturers provided CUPS drivers (CUPS is the print control system on OSX). But most manufacturers are still providing Carbon drivers - where the comm protocol is limited to what is put into the driver. HP provided a Carbon, USB-only driver for your printer. You'll need to use a third-party CUPS driver to use Windows Printing.
Gutenprint drivers (included with Leopard) are CUPS drivers, for example.

  • Epson Artisan 800 can't scan over the network (wireless)

    Hi,
I installed the Artisan 800 all-in-one drivers and software. I can print wirelessly. I looked up Epson scanning setup help. When I open Epson Scan Settings.app, click on "Network", but all the buttons are disbled (unclickable). Therefore, I cannot click "Add" and all the subsequent steps. I tried adding the app to the "incoming allowed" list in Firewall, disabled the Firewall entirely, but to no avail. Funny thing is, it was working a couple of months ago when I had the printer new, but since then I have installed a couple of OS X updates (I believe I had 10.5.5 when it was working). In the intervening period, I also messed around with the OS X supplied Printer drivers (deleted a whole bunch of files, not sure if some required files were deleted), and I noted that the recent 10.5.7 update (and possibly 10.5.6 before) did not restore those files. However today I uninstalled all the Epson drivers/files using the A800 supplied CD, and reinstalled everything. I even tried installing the scanner files from Epson's webpage. Nothing worked. Please suggest something!

i had a similar problem -I connected by printer to an iMac via a network cable to a Time Machine 802.111 router. Could print but not scan. I could only get the scan functions working by setting up the wireless connection on the printer. But then I could not print until i reconnected the network cable between the printer and the TIme capsule. Tel support from Epson seemed more confused than me!
Should I have to have the printer networked by cable as well as wireless? That seems silly. I must be missing a step in one of the setups.

  • Problems printing over the network?

    Hello All,
I recently purchased a new MAC and I am trying to get my printer configured. I have a Canon IP6600D printer connected to a Linksys Wireless G Print Server. I downloaded the appropriate software from Canon to install my printer, which works when I have it connected via USB. However, when I try to install the printer as a network printer the MAC does not recognize the printer as a valid device. I try to add the printer as a Generic PostScript Printer; however, it still doesn't print at all.
I've tried enabling AppleTalk on the wireless print server, but still I get nothing. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much!!!

    Hello Phil,
The Canon driver cannot be used this way. It is designed for USB connection only. To get the iP6600D working for your environment, you need a product like Printfab. Check out their web site (www.printfab.net)

  • Can't scan over the network after clean windows 8 install

My wife's hard drive recently crashed (it was Windows 7 32bit).  I replaced the drive and installed Windows 8 64bit, and then upgraded to 8.1.  I did the 8.1 update before I installed any software (i.e., canon drivers).
Everything seems to work fine but when we try to scan to her pc via the wireless network we get the error message.  We are initiating the scan from the device panel.
MP Navigator EX corresponding to the printer  you intend to use, may not be installed correctly.  Reinstall MP Navigator EX, and then try again.
I've uninstalled and re-installed several times.  Tried running as administrator. There aren't many settings to change in the Navigator software.  I'll attach some screen shots.  If you need any more information let me know.  Any help at all would be great.  If we can't get it working we'll probably scrap the thing and get something else.
    Thanks!!!

I suggest uninstalling the full feature software from both PCs and re-installing and configuring the software on both.
Are you using the HP Solution center to scan? It is in Dutch, but the images are the same as what you should see in a correctly installed full feature software package.

  • Cannot find my printer over the network

    Hi,
I've been using my printer (HP Photosmart C6100 All-in-one) for some time... till today. I tried to print one document and got an error, that printer cannot be found. System and printer restart - no effects. I removed the printer under system prefs, reset printing module and tried to add the printer - no printer found. Then I tried to add the printer manually using IP address - it was found as Universal PS Printer and test page was printed correctly, but that does not solve an issue as scanning and faxing do not work, moreover I loose many settings like HP paper selection, etc. Next - I removed HP software - no effects as well. Installed 2.5.2 HP package from Apple - did not help to.
I've run out of ideas.... Please help.
    Kal

Tried everything and... as the result I cannot open Printer settings in Mac Preferences. When I try to open it I got Beach Ball and Preferences process being stuck.
What should I do? I cannot print, scan, fax, now I cannot even choose another printer or configure anything.
Should I reinstall my system then?????
    Please help.

  • HP Software finds the printer, but then "the printer was unable to be installed over the network"

I have tried to search for a similar issue, but haven't had any success yet.  I doubt I'm the first with this problem!
The computer is XP SP3, the printer is Deskjet 3050A, and it's a WPA-PSK WiFi.
The printer confirms that it is connected to the WiFi.
When I run the setup tool on the computer, at the Network Check point, the setup software finds the printer at the correct IP address.  It is the only thing it discovers.
I click next, ànd after a minute or two, I get the error "the printer was unable to be installed over the wireless network"  Click Retry to try installing the printer over the network again, or click Cancel to return to the connection options.
This just cycles with no progress.  I have turned off the Windows Firewall and also disabled the AV.  No change.
I can browse to the web interface of the printer - but still can't install the printer.  It is listed in the Printers and Faxes as being Offline.
I'll try once again removing it, and re-adding it - but has anyone come across this problem before, please?
    This question was solved.

I am having a similar problem as well.  The printer is recognized (most of the time) when I run the HP Network DIagnostic Utility.  However, when I run the Add a Device setup program to install my wireless printer, it is NEVER recognized.  I have even tried to use the advvanced serach to locate it using the IP listed in the Diagnostic Utility without any luck.  As an aside, I was able to add the printer through windows just fine and am currently able to print to it, but would really like to add it using the HP installation so that I can configure the "scan to" settings again.
To make matters worse, I no longer have the USB cord that came with the printer because the device has been connected wirelessly for over a year now with minimal issues.  Any help getting this brick back online and connected to my network would be much appreciated!
