SL Install repeatedly aborts after 20 min, w/o error msg
My SL install goes well for 20 minutes, and then suddenly restarts, ejects the CD, and comes back in 10.5.8.
Here are the console messages from 2 instances:

This is after Safe Boot; no peripherals attached; Install DVD is verified by Disk Utility.

Following up:
The point in installation at which this happens is right after the Installer says, roughly, "Installer must now restart to continue installation." But when it restarts, it kicks out the DVD, there is a momentary flashing folder with question mark, and then it boots up in regular old 10.5.8.
(Also, I reset PRAM.)

Ok, Below is what worked for me somewhat.
Okay ... try downloading and saving a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe to your PC from the Apple website:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now download a trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.php
Open the iTunesSetup.exe with WinRAR, and try to run the standalone install of Apple Application Support from the AppleApplicationSupport.msi you find in there.
It works now BUT there are still problems. It is not allowing or recognizing my Cd/DVD player and i CANT burn. Looking still for this fix. -
Earlier today I was asked to update mu IOS which I did through my wifi (power connected). On return I just had the "connect to Itunes" icon. I've tried to restore the settings as suggested on the summary page but after downloading and verifying the connections and device the restoration locks up after about 30-40minutes due to an unknown error.

Safari crashes after 5 min - copy of error report
Safari will crash within 5 minutes of opening it...sometime's it immediately and sometimes it takes a little while...ive done everything i can think of to fix it and it still keeps happening...here is a copy of the report from the apple error message:

My macbook failed too.
After updating it didnt reboot. I waited for a very long time. In the end I had to force reboot it.
It booted normaly and stopped at the login screen. (Normal on this machine)
When I log in to any of the accounts it starts the process by asking for my name and adress and stuff that usually happens when setting up the machine for the first time.
I knew this was wrong but tried to fill in the info anyway.
After doing that it just reverts back to the login screen.
I am now trying to update it using combo update trough remote desktop from a mac pro.
Crossing fingers here....

It worked. After updating trough remote desktop and rebooting I can log in to my accounts.

ITunes gone-then after reinstall-won't open-error msg "unknown error (-50)"
While running, iTunes disappeared; then reinstalled; now states: "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)."
Also, keep getting msg that "parts of QuickTime are out-of-date. Updating to latest version could help this." We have, and still get that msg. Help -- can't access songs for ipod...!!!You might be getting two different problems here at once, Wendy. The (-50) could be a problem with your Apple Application Support or possibly an iTunes library file issue. The QuickTime message usually indicates old QuickTime componentry lurking in unorthodox locations on the PC.
We'll start work on the (-50) first. First we'll try working out if it's an AAS issue or a library file issue. (This isn't going to be a cure in itself, but it should eliminate one or the other of the possibilities.)
Head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights.
Now log out of your usual user account, and log into the new account. (Don't use fast user switching to move between accounts.)
Now try launching iTunes in the new user account. Does it eventually open to a blank library screen, or do you get another (-50) instead? -
Xcelsius Engage 2008 - Error msg during install
Would someone please help! I am trying to install Xcelsius Engage 2008 and recieve the following error msg's:
1. Office XP application: Excel, Word, Outlook or PowerPoint must be pre-installed. Higher versions work fine. (Clicked "OK")
2. Installation ended prematurely because of an error. (Clicked "OK")
My OS is XP Professional, and am running Office XP on my machine. Why is this occurring?javier,
I have tried this on 2 machines - one with Office 2003 and Office 2007. The install aborts on office 2003 (I uninstalled and reinstalled office 2003). I tried two different downloads of xcelsius 2008 (we have license for xcelsius 2008 enterprise) - one from this forum and other from service marketplace software downloads area for BOBJ. Same error.
Documentation says office 2003 and 2007 are supported. Frustrating -- the sap notes search does not even recognize excelsius key word (now that knowledge base is gone) - asks me if i misspelled..
any other clues?

After i installed updates for my mac mini server, the web services for the server app wont start, it gives an error massage: "Error Reading Settings"
The system logs reads:

undefined method `downcase' for nil:NilClassTo check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect. That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops. -
Repeated aborted captures because of dropped frames
It seems that since I use a CANON mini-DV camcorder, my Apple Software requires that I capture directly to the internal drive, instead of onto the external G-RAID (which I purchased from the Apple Store with the express purpose of capturing video from my Canon ZR500!).
Now onto the next problem (It seems I am to battle this software at every step in the process, right? It never does "Just Work", does it?):
After two aborted attempts to capture a 60 MN tape onto my internal hard drive, what do I do about dropping frames. Is this because of "Bottlenecking", something I heard happens and is exactly why we DON'T want to capture onto the computer's internal drive? How do I capture a tape onto my internal drive without repeated aborted captures because of dropped frames?
It's going on day two with this software, and not a single frame of tape has been imported successfully yet. . .Go to User Preferences > General. Uncheck "Abort on dropped frames" and "Report Dropped Frames." I have found that the dropped frames are unnoticeable while editing and during playback.

Satellite U400-22n and Win7 - screen hangs after 5 min
Hi, This is my first post
Ive purchased a new U400 with Vista preinstalled, last week ; 2 days ago Ive upgraded to windows 7 32bit professional when I stared Installing it windows prompted me that it requires a full installation , so I done a normal full install, windows 7 installed normally .
Now my screen hangs after 5 min and windows gos black and reboots after 3-5 min, Ive downloaded all the drivers from the Toshiba site Ive used the auto detect, and installed the drivers one by one and tested if the reboot stops , Ive reinstalled windows now 4-5 time returned my copy to the shop and got a new copy of the windows DVD, its the same,
Please has some one any advice for me. As the shop Ive perched this from will not upgrade to windows 7 for me.hi Mather,

you have to install all the drivers for win7 provided by toshiba in the right order!
first chipset and patchfiles if available...
i think a clean install will do the job!
make sure that the hdd is error free!
you can upgrade from vista 32bit to win7 32bit
but no chance to upgrade to a win7 64bit when a vista 32bit is installed... -
Get a LOUD repeating sound after upgrading to Leopard
I just installed Leopard on two mac minis and a macbook and all three will, quite suddenly give a loud ear-piercing repeating BRRRRRRR sound (kinda like a very high-pitched sports car that never shifts) that will only stop when the computer is placed on mute (when I lower the sound volume the sound does not dissipate -- it's either on or off).
I talked to Applecare and was told that no one else seems to have this problem (nice to be unique), and thought it was because of a faulty install disk. I did a Time Machine backup, traded the disk in at the Apple Store, and then did an erase and install (clean install) and then put my programs back on via firewire from an external hard drive - and the problem persists. It sometimes happens when I have external speakers on (which is a very nice affect!) and sometimes without external speakers.
Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!I just try to find out the reason. Did someone of you ever install "TheftSensor" from Orbicule (This used to be an alarm system for the MacBook to be switched on and off by the Apple Remote)?
I just ask, because TheftSensor made an alarm sound which could not be stopped in any way, except switching off the Mac or removing the battery.

I have tried to update my iPod Touch 4G to the latest update, I currently have iOS 4.1. After the 4 hours an error message appears saying iTunes had lost connection even when I am fully connected to the internet. I have repeated the update 4 times now with not luck. Any ideas?

AdamIf you get a network timed out error, try disabling the security software on the computer during the download and install.
You can also try a direct download andinstall by:
iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
