SL - subscription to password protected calendars dropped?

Did anyone else notice that it's no longer possible to subscribe to password protected calendars, e.g. on an FTP server, in Snow Leopard? One can only enter a URL, but no account information. That's really annoying, since I have subscribed to four important family and work calendars this way which are no longer updated...
Or do I miss something? Are there any workarounds? What other free solutions should I try to share family member calendars? Your help is greatly appreciated!
Kind regards,
kingkaramel

  • Publish a web-viewable password-protected calendar?

Is there any way to publish a web-viewable password-protected calendar?
There is info here about publishing to your iDisk w/ password protection:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61725
But I need something that doesn't require iCal to access! For instance something that I could access via a web browser on a public computer, and would have to input a password to access.
Is this possible, or is this a missing functionality?

Hi UniAce, apparently in one of the recent versions of iCal you can now publish your ICS file (from iCal 'publish' command) onto a private server that is not WebDav... which was the requirement in the past.
View your iCalendar on the web
Here is a link to a program called PHP iCalendar that basically uses your ICS file that you've 'published' via iCal and makes it into a viewable HTML calendar.
    My problem with it
I don't have .Mac and haven't tried it with that, but even though the program works great after a bit of installation (you should be comfortable with HTML editing to use PHP iCalendar, but not necessarily PHP) I could not get iCal to export my ICS file properly – it appeasr to upload properly in iCal, but then the file is 0 bytes on the server which is, in turn, making PHP iCalendar have a problem viewing it.
    How I got around it
I ended up finding the 'resource' file that had my calendar and setup an automator action that locates that file, copies it to a location on my hard drive, renames it then 'opens' it with a Transmit droplet, which uploads it where I want it.
Hope this helps, let me know if it's something that may work for you.

  • Publish Password Protect Calendar for Web-Browsers?

I read the various help resources in OS 10.4.11 and online and can't seem to figure out if a calendar can be shared with password protection so that anyone using a web browser who knows the password only can access it. From what I've read, Apple says I can post the calendar to a private (presumably password protected) website, but while users can subscribe to it using iCal, they won't be able to read it with a web browser which sort of defeats sharing it privately over multiple OS platforms.
Anybody know if there's a way to keep my online calendar private, password protected? Thanks in advance!
Sorry If I am repeating, but I cannot seem to search the discussion forums anymore.

Thanks for your help -- I'm not an expert by any means -- this is my first website... just wanting to put up a family website to share with friends & people I know.
    OK, the url is http://www.hickorytech.net/~rmgrazi/
Right now I just have a blank page up that says "test website"
My .htaccess file is located in /rmgrazi/public_html/ (yes, I put it inside the public folder in order to password protect my whole site).
By the way I'm using TextEdit in OS X, so when I upload the original file with Fetch, it looks like htaccess.txt -- after it's uploaded (as text, not binary of course) then I simply change the name to .htaccess
My .htaccess file includes the following:
    AuthUserFile /rmgrazi/.htpasswd
    AuthName Members Area
    AuthType Basic
    Require valid-user
Then I uploaded the .htpasswd one level up to /rmgrazi/ like it says in .htaccess.
The text in this file is just one line with my username:password (the password is written in code). I found a website that does this automatically. Then I just cut & paste it in apple+v
I tried using the Terminal application in OS X panther to see if the server path needs to be longer -- I logged into my ftp.hickorytech.net and entered "pwd" -- that command is supposed to show the server path. /rmgrazi/public_html/ are the only folders I can see. "/" is as far back as it will show.
In Fetch I can change the permissions for .htaccess and .htpasswd by clicking Get Info -- I tried all different combinations, 644, 711, etc... Maybe my permissions are set wrong?

  • Password Protect Published iCal on MobileMe

I would like to password protect calendars I publish on MobileMe. Is this possible? If not, it should be.
    Thanks.
    Mark

I agree -- even a hash would be better than the plain-text, everyone-can-find-it link that the publish option provides.

  • IPhoto - MobileMe gallery subscription - problem with password-protected

I am having a peculiar problem with subscribed galleries from MobileMe in iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09. For galleries that have password-protection enabled, the full URL of the gallery subscription feed is pulled through as the Subscription title instead of the gallery title.
    For example "http://gallery.e.com/ACCOUNT-NAME/XXXXXX/?webdav-method-truthget&depth=infinit y&feedfmt=atom....
This doesn't occur for public MobileMe galleries. The title of the gallery comes across and the URL of the subscription is hidden.
Anyone having similar problems? Local Genius Bar couldn't help and assumed it was just a bug, but it doesn't seem to be typical of Apple.
As an aside, it would also be nice to have these feed subscriptions behave similarly to the way RSS subscriptions work in Mail, with the ability to select how often the feed is queried and indicate the number of new items. This would alert users of changes to feeds.
    Joe

Upon further research, it appears that this problem occurs when publishing from either iPhoto or Aperture to MobileMe. The problem seems to be when a gallery is published and one chooses not to have the gallery appear on the main gallery page (hidden). It seems to have nothing to do with whether or not one protects the gallery with a password.
So, Apple, if you are listening, can you provide any information on how to have the title of the gallery come through when subscribing using iPhoto while at the same time not listing the gallery on the main MobileMe gallery page? This seems to be a fixable bug.

  • Password Protecting Contacts and Color Coding Calendar

I just got an iPhone today and was wondering if there is a way to password protect my contacts. Either all of them or certain records so that I will be prompted for a password before seeing a record (or all records). I had a Palm Centro before this and absolutely loved that feature since I could keep all my passwords in my phone and not have to worry about anyone else accessing them since the file was password protected.
I haven't used the iCal much but is there a way to color code entries by event type (e.g. Birthday, appointment, meeting, etc.) This is another feature that my palm had that I really loved and was hoping I could duplicate it in some way on my iPhone

The answer to your first question is no. You kept your various passwords with your contacts?
Regarding iCal, you can create multiple calendars and have a different color for each. For example I have a Business and a Personal calendar with business and personal events separated. I can view all calendars combined or I can view an individual calendar by itself.
The iPhone includes a Birthdays calendar that is linked to birthday entries for your contacts in Contacts. iCal includes the same linked to birthday entries for your contacts in the Address Book. The iPhone supports syncing calendars/calendar events with iCal and contacts with the Address Book on your Mac.

  • Password protect published Calendar?

It's a couple of click to publish a calendar to .MAC
But is there a way to password protect the published page so only authorised people can view it?
I tried to upload to my own server but cannot accomplish it...

    Hi,
Don't know if your still trying to do this or not but I managed it using iWeb 08 and .MAC
The problem with the Apple solution is that you have to give out your .MAC user/password which is far from ideal. If you create a website to hold your calendar(s) using iWeb and give the site a username/password and then publish it to your dotmac account you can then publish your calendars using iCal to a private server (your dotmac account) and users will use the username/password you provided in iWeb NOT your .MAC ones!
To do the publishing bit in iCal simply select Private Server and type in:
    http://idisk.mac.com/username/Web/Sites/yoursitename
Make sure you provide your .MAC username and password, this will be used by iCal to access your iDisk but users will use the username/password you provided in iWeb!
Not sure if it works with previous versions of iWeb, you only need iWeb to set up the site and make it password protected.
    James.

  • How can I set up SMB file sharing to share my PC external hard drive on my Mac with no password protection?

I am having the worst trouble with two things. I am very aware how to get the server to show up via SMB, but every time I log off the Macbook, the server's disappear. OK, so I went into "System Preferences" and hit "Users and Accounts" and added the server as a log in item. Worked well, except how do I stop that password prompt from coming up? I am using a Guest account with no password but I continue to get the password prompt. There is nowhere to hit remember password or anything. I have the option to remember the password in the keychain but I have no way of preventing the pop up.
Another issue I'm having is I have a Canon Pixma MP620 printer connected to my PC through USB. Three other PC's can connect wirelessly to print through the home network. My Mac does not find the printer, and when I manually add it, it recognizes it but WILL NOT print. It comes up with error messages like Authentican Required and connection issues between printers.
I have no password protection on my PC and have enabled sharing of all devices and folders through the Homegroup on the PC. I just can't figure it out. I am new to Mac and would love to get these two things figured out.
    Thanks in advance for reading!

Hi Bengt, Thanks for your input, much appreciated.
I have a WD 1TIG hard drive and are using usb connection, is it possible to use fire wire with these? I have had trouble with a lot of the videos I Imported, once they downloaded the file in the viewer window showed up blank and when I mouse over them it places a picture of another file in the window and wont drag and drop into the movie window, like their corrupted or something? Had to delete just about all of them and start again. Also is it possible to select a bunch of videos in the viewer window as to change the dates to the correct dates? All I have been able to do is "select all" which is no help.

  • Password-protected Excel file

I am trying to create a connection to a password-protected Excel 2003 file.
When I go to Create New Connection/Access/Excel(DAO)/make New Connection - I enter the filename path, choose Excel 8.0 from drop-down, and click the box for Secure Logon, and I enter the database password in the first box that un-greys and then leave the other 3 blank.
I get the following error message : "Logon Failed. Details DAO Error Code: 0xc59 Source: DAO Workspace Description: Could not decrypt file"
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

You can use the Excel 8.0 Native Driver for Excel 97-2003 (.xls file extension) or use ODBC driver as well but the the only thing is you need to open the Excel workbook before connecting to Crystal Reports.
    Thanks,

you will have to take the help of Professional Pdf editind tools such as Nova pdf or the Full version of Adobe Acrobat i.e. Acrobat Professional ..
also check the links below ..
    [LINK|http://techblissonline.com/how-to-password-protect-pdf-documents-or-files/]
    and quote from the same
How to password protect PDF documents or files?
Open the PDF file in Acrobat
Select File > Document Security from the menu
    Got to the u201CSecurity Optionsu201D drop-down and select u201CAcrobat Standard Securityu201D
Find the box labelled u201CPassword required to open documentu201D and place a check mark against it.
    Edit or type the password
You can also add a password requirement for changing permissions or password. To add a a required password check the box against u201Crequired password to change permissions or passwordu201D and enter the password. However note that this password must be different from the one that you entered for securing or password protecting the PDF file.
If you want your PDF document to be password accessible to users with previous versions of Acrobat Reader (versions earlier than 5.0), do not change the 40-bit encryption setting. However if your users or audience will be using version 5 or later versions of the Reader (or the full Acrobat program) then you may use 128-bit encryption.

  • I can not seem to password protect a pages document

I created a document with pages.  I thought I had password protected it.  However document is not requiring password to open.
I used password protect from the file menu of the document.  I even changed the password but nothing sticks.  What am I doing wrong?

When you choose File > Set (or Change) Password… if you always want a password challenge, even on your own machine, then do not check Remember this password in my keychain from the drop-down Pages password sheet.
If you did, you may have to remove the password, and subsequently re-add it following the above guideline.

  • How can my end user password-protect a document that has been digitally signed?

    Hello,
I have seen some threads that indirectly address parts of this question, but am still left unsure about whether this process can be done - and if it can, I could use your help in understanding it - thank you.
Two of our end users use digital signatures (certificate-based) in Acrobat 9 Pro to sign documents attesting the accuracy & calibration status of lab equipment for use in a legal environment.  These end users are concerned that their documents could be altered or edited, and asked me if password protection can also be applied to their documents that need to be digitally signed.
Thank you in advance for your advice.

If you apply "Permissions" password (with or without the "Open" password) make sure that "Changes Allowed" include Filling in form fields and signing existing signature fields" or "Commenting, filling in form fields and signing existing signature fields". If permissions do not allow you to sign, you cannot sign.
Be aware of the alert that Acrobat pops up when you apply "Permissions" password that all Adobe products respect permissions that you set but that 3rd-party PDF Viewers may not (and many do not).
That is exactly what I was missing! I apply only "Permissions" password, but had the "Changes Allowed" drop-down set incorrectly - it was set to "None."  After changing that setting to allow "Filling in form fields and signing existing signature fields," the end user was able to digitally sign the document, her desired goal.
    Thank you so much.

  • How can I sign a password protected PDF doc?

I am trying to sign a password protected document, downloaded from a government site. I can use all button and drop-down menus and also validate the document but then, when I click on the line where I have to sign, there is only the cursor flashing and I cannot sign it. It seems that the document was created with version 8.1.7. and I have 11.0.02. Does anyone know what I have to do to sign this doc?

Is the thing you're clicking on a text field or a digital signature field?

  • Password protected iweb site hosted on godaddy

    Hi,
I am using iweb 08, and i host with godaddy.
Is there any way of making the password function from iweb work with godaddy?
so far i can't get it to work.
    Thanks
    Dave

    Dave:
That's one of the features of iWeb that are not supported by non Mac servers:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Blog RSS Subscription
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ Enhanced slideshows
There are methods using php I believe but, again, have no experience with them. One of these sites may be what you're looking for.

  • Is there a way to password protect a movie?

We have imovie in our school. We were looking to password protect our movies so other students could'nt tamper with them. Is this possible? If so how?

Have the students create a Sparse Disk Image, This also prevents fragmentation of the project across your disk. Set the target size at about what your intended goals are. Here I show Custom 20 GB.
Disk Utility>New Image>set the dialouge boxes as shown.
    http://www.megimage.com/easyupload/picstore/200702/200702000000068.tiff
Sorry the format should have been Sparce Disk Image and not read/write disk image on the botton drop down list. A read/write will always remain the size you select in custom.
After the steps shown you will be required to type in a password and verify it. Before each use they would have to mount the disk image with thier password and when the movies is complete it will only take up the actual space used.
With MPEG-4 you can also protect your completed movies in various ways to be able to share it over the internet, DVD and prevent the content from being saved, copied or even viewed elsewhere as well. Some tools are available and it is my understanding that you can "create" your own. Contact Apple directly and they may be able to direct you to some educational resources for MPEG-4 IPMP-X or DRM software.
