SL update crashing iTunes?

Hey everyone,
Ever since I updated to Snow Leopard I've had some problems with iTunes crashing all the time. I've removed the .plist file from the preference folder and restarted, but that fix only lasts as long as it takes to remove the .plist file.
I've also used disk utility to fix any permission problems, but that still doesn't work. In fact, I noticed a new problem.
During the "verify permissions" stage, I've discovered two warnings that I've never had before.
*Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.*
*Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.*
After multiple attempts to fix permissions the above warning messages seem to always be there.
Does anyone know why I'm getting these warning messages? And, is there a connection in some way causing iTunes to crash?
Thanks everyone.

Hello J:

I think this article will answer your question:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
And, is there a connection in some way causing iTunes to crash?
I seriously doubt it.
You said you trashed a preference file. Try it again (com.apple.itunes.plist) and then restart your system.
When did the crashing begin (what was changed in your system)?

  • Firmware 1.0.2 Update Crashes iTunes and Won't Load on 80G Classic

Updating to 1.0.2., when iTunes tries to install the update on my new 80Gb iPod Classic, I get an unknown error message: 1462 ("iPod could not be updated") and iTunes freezes. Just before iTunes freezes, the display on my iPod indicates that it is ejecting. Once the iPod icon vanishes from my desktop, iTunes stops responding.
I know. I know; I'm still running with crazy-slow USB 1, but I see other folks with USB 2.0 are having the same problem. So I don't think we can blame this problem on that.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer a solution. ~Shawn

    hi,
i've got this problem, but the above fix doesn't seem to work for me.
nothing happens when i try to put the ipod into "disk mode".
well, to be fair, if i try the above instructions when it's
not connected, the screen goes blank, then comes back on when
i release the buttons. nothing happens at all if the ipod
is connected. [update: after some searching, i did manage to
put the ipod into disk mode - reset ipod (select+play for 10s),
press select+play immediately on seeing apple logo)...
but i still get exactly the same error trying to update.
for the record, i did the following
    1) clicked Install the new version (1.0.2)
    2) itunes hung up totally. i left it for 5-10 minutes or so. no indication that it was doing anything at all.
    3) the ipod was in interactive menu mode, indicating that it was fine to disconnect, so i disconnected.
    4) an error instantly came up in itunes saying cannot install (error 1462, i think)
    5) now every time i try to install, i get the same error (after the "Extracting software" dialog has appeared.
surely loads of people must have had this problem?
    any suggestions?

  • Installing iOS 7.0.4 crashed iTunes. Wait for a fix?

my iPhone 4 is now in recovery mode, as the latest software update crashed iTunes and wiped out the iPhone.  Best to wait for 7.0.5.

Update your iTunes to 11.1.3 if you haven't already.
    Reboot
Plug in phone - tap Trust Computer on your iPhone when prompted.
You should be good to go.

  • Updated the iTunes yesterday and now when I try to dock ipod, the com crash

I updated the iTunes last night and now when i go to dock the new 160gb ipod...the computer says that it has detected new hardware and then crashes. I have no idea what is going on but my old 30gb ipod works just fine when I try to dock it.

+the computer says that it has detected new hardware and then crashes.+
By "crash" in this context, do you mean that the computer freezes, or that it reboots altogether?

  • IPhone 3GS Update to 6.1.3 Crashes iTunes

About a month ago my mum lost her iPhone at work and later that day rung up O2 (her phone service provider) and got her sim cancelled or something along those lines. The next day she went to EE and got a contract and a new phone with them. When my mum returned to work she found her iPhone though and then gave it to me. I havent really touched it for the past month but now today i decided to start using it.
To start with, i tried connecting to the app store and recieved this error 'Cannot conect to the store. A secure connection could not be established. Please check your Date & Time settings'. So i checked the date and time settings both on the device and on my laptop (what i have iTunes on) and they were all fine but still this message persisted. I then thought that putting in my old 'non cancelled' sim card from GiffGaff might fix the problem; but no.
Next i turned to updating the iPhone. So i launch iTunes which i update to the newest version first and then attempt an update on the iPhone to 6.1.3. The update begins trying to backup the iPhone, which gets stuck right at the end of the bar for a few minutes before crashing iTunes. After a few more attempts of this, i try bypassing the backup stage by ending the 'AppleMobileBackup.exe' process through Windows Task Manager which worked and led me onto the iPhone restore stage. On this stage my iTunes loading bar displays 'Verifying iPhone Restore With Apple' and then after only a few seconds iTunes crashes once again.
Any help on fixing this error would be well appreciated,
    Will.

    Hello there, Will209.

  • Updated to iTunes 11.0.1 on my iMac 10.6.8 and it crashes every single time on launch.

As above, I foolishly updated to iTunes 11.0.1 after a software update prompt on my iMac 10.6.8, thinking I was doing a good thing getting my machine ready for my daughter's new iPad mini tomorrow.
As it stands, the iPad is going to be such a let down as iTunes is crashing every single time on launch, never my own frustration having no access to my tunes. Thanks a bunch Apple.
Can someone please state in easy to follow instructions how I might repair iTunes.
If it helps with a solution, I have a Jan 2012 backup of the app which I cannot open receiving the following message:-
"The file “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?"
The actual error the new iTunes is giving is below:-

    In anticipation, thanks.

    Thanks Mike.
What I have ended up doing is
purchasing Snow Mountain 10.8.2 & installing
doing the disk repairs as you stated
    rebooted
and eventually things seem okay with iTunes having synced an iPod, viewed playlists and played a load of tunes.
Disappointed Apple have again failed with a piece of software and have taken £13.99 that I needn't have spent but pleased to not be letting the daughter down tomorrow.
    Thanks for your help Mike.
    Happy Christmas.

  • Crashing after updating to itunes 8

Have just updated to itunes 8 and as soon as I plug in my ipod (classic) my system crashes and I get a blue screen. I have tried un-installing and re-installing itunes but it happens all over again. Any suggestions?

There is an application called "Console" installed under the "Utilities" sub folder of "Applications". It basically tracks any application errors and stores them for support reasons.
    1. Launch "Console" - it will display any errors found to date.
    2. Launch "iTunes" - wait for it to "terminate abruptly"
    3. Review the new messages back in "Console"
    4. Post your findings (remove anything that could identify you or your computer).
Worse case you could try uninstalling iTunes (you will not lose any music/videos/etc. through a simple uninstall).
I think you'll like find issues with either "WebKit" or QuickTime. If you can't launch Mail, Safari, or other "Apple" preinstall applications, than it is likely a "WebKit" issue.
The result may be a little technical but at least it is a starting point and with a google search you may find further support/answers.
    Post your findings.

  • Ipod Classic 120GB wont import CDs after 10.1 iTunes update - crashes

    Hi there
I recently updated my Itunes to version 10.1 with Windows 7
Ever since then if I try and rip a CD to my library it crashes as soon as I hit the "import CD" button.
I get a message saying "iTunes has stopped working and needs to close" or something to that effect "cannot complete this function"
I have ejected CDs, turned iTunes on and off again but it still does the same thing.
I checked my updates in iTunes and it says I ha e the most up to date version.
This was not a problem last week before I updated.
Can anyone help please? Many thanks

I get a message saying "iTunes has stopped working and needs to close"
First we need to check your precise version number. In iTunes go "Help > About iTunes", and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
Does it say *iTunes 10.1.0.54* ? If so, we need to get you updated to version 10.1.0.56 .
Version 10.1.0.56 likely won't appear for you in Apple Software Update if you have 10.1.0.54 installed. So you'll need to get the 10.1.0.56 installer from the Apple Website, as per the following document:
[iTunes 10.1 for Windows: iTunes may stop working and need to quit while importing or syncing audio|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3591]

  • Crashing of computer since last two updates of itunes - HELP!!???

I really need some help, I have tried everything. Since I updated to itunes 7 and now itunes 8, as soon as I connect my ipods (ipod nano (using usb lead) and ipod click wheel (using dock)) my computer crashes. Is there anyway to revert back to the version I had before I updated to itunes 7? I would uninstall it but I do not want to lose any of my music. Please can someone answer my question, I am getting quite frustrated with this problem now, as I cannot sync my ipods with new music that I have purchased. As I've tried everything else I really believe the problem is now with itunes and not my ipods, as I have connected it to my brother laptop and the laptop did not crash!

Doublechecking something. In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you worked through the suggestions from the following document? (iTunes uses QuickTime for video playback, so the same basic troubleshooting techniques apply.)

Lets see whether this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?

  • Update crashed my itunes app?

    update crashed my itunes app?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall for the network problem.
Also for the original problem try the following if Ana's suggestions does not work
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I've got it working now. I followed Apple's instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to completely remove all components of itunes in order. I rebooted after uninstalling and installing even though it doesn't prompt you but i don't know if this made any difference.
When you first connect your device it takes a minute to reinstall the driver software and now it's working. I'm downloading iOS 5 right now.
    Good luck!
P.S. After i upgraded originally i disconnected my device early and the driver install failed, i think this may have been my problem first time round despite trying to uninstall and install the driver after.
