SL user can save to Windows Server first time, but can't overwrite/modify?

We upgraded both Mac's in our organisation to Snow Leopard a couple of months ago. Since then our users have been struggling when saving to the our fileshare.
The fileshare runs Windows 2003.
Basically the SL user can save their file to a folder that they have full rights to on the File Share, but cannot modify the document.
Instead they have to save the document locally with a different name and manually copy it to the File Share.
Its obviously a bug/permissions issue. Has anyone else experienced this?

You didn't say how they were mounting the shares. AFP or SMB. Win 2003 is a little screwy in which by default the volume using AFP is read-only. If it is a new share with OS 9 legacy files in it, you should use SMB. Otherwise, on the server, right click on My Computer, select Manage, then in the side bar, select Shared Folders, then Shares. You should see two Share names -- one for Windows and one for Macintosh. Right click on the Share with Macintosh as the type and select Properties. Click off the radio button that says "This volume is read-only." If that isn't it, click on the Security tab and set up your permissions accordingly. Check and make sure that Modify is allowed in addition to Write.
