  • How do I transfer library and playlists from external drive to PC?

My old PC with iTunes died for good. Luckily library and playlists were save on and external hard drive. How do I transfer my library and playlists from that drive to another PC (Windows XP) and are the arrangement of tracks within the playlists included?

Correction to my last post (in bold): I'll try to explain what I did originally, not knowing everything that would be required to transfer, so you can better understand my situation. Just before my first computer died I saved my Music folder containing iTunes, Library, and Playlists folders to an external drive, so I no longer have programs, sub-folders or other information rooted in my first computer. I then downloaded iTunes to my second computer (Dell Vostro 1520, WindowsXP). I then dragged my Music folder from the external drive to iTunes 11.1.5.5 music tab and near as I can tell the library was transferred because in the Songs tab, the tracks are there in duplicate, one with the exclamation at the left and one that functions playback. (However, my total song number is doubled and that can be addressed later if it doesn't impede anything). In individual playlists each track within has a “not connected” mark. I have an extensive playlist catalogue so I would rather not have to reconnect them one by one. Can you think of a solution where I don't have to do that? Would you like more info? Aragorn

  • Quantum P2000 tape library showing NOBARCODE on tape drive

    Hi all,
We are having a tape library of ATL quantum P2000 which is having 4 tape drives.
In which we used to daily backup.
When ever we are keeping any new cartridges into the library we will run an inventory , During this time if their is any kind of cartridge in the tape drive their wont be any issue with that particular tape drive .
If not it is showing a problem of NO BAR CODE on the operator panel of the library.
and at this time it is not detecting on the legato software also.
Kindly help me in this .....
    Thanks in Advance....
    SWAROOP

I will use new words to repeat my first reply:
    You have broken hardware.
Broken hardware doesn't work when you expect it to work.
    For example:
but why my tape drive is showing no bar code error when no tape is presentHow can a broken barcode reader give you an error when you don't have anything in the library that has a barcode on it?
Go contact whoever you use for repair services and get the library repaired.

  • Installing Sun Storage C4 - Tape Library on IBM p550Q

    All,
Need your advise, what should we prepare to install Sun Storage C4 Tape Library attached to IBM P550Q?
I read the information about supported OS on C4 Tape Library are only Windows, Linux and Solaris. So, how do we reveal with this situation?

I'm looking for the same thing -
Were you able to location any documentation?
I've been trying to get my hands on the documentation
for the C4. Sun's doc site does not have this product
listed at all. The product documentation link
    (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/prod/1878#hic) just
returns " The requested item could not be found."
I've even tried opening up a case with Sun. First,
the support people had no idea what the C4 was. After
3 days and 3 support engineers, I finally found one
who understood what this product was, but I was then
told that getting the documentation would be on a
time and materials basis. I'd rather not have to pay
$400+ for documentation that should be on their
website, just like all their other equipment. I'm
currently using the Quantum PX502 documentation as a
reference, but I'd really like to see Sun specific
    documentation.
    Any ideas?
Thanks.I'm looking for the same thing -

  • Sharing Itunes library and backup on external drive

Would appreciate if anyone can offer help on their experiences of external / NAS drives. I've been looking for the best solution to move my entire Itunes library to an external drive that I can put on the network so can have access from PC's, Mac and Iphone. Just recently moved to new MBP but still have PC's in home.
Have looked at varying solutions and think I've got it narrowed down to going for either QNAP  TS212 NAS or dedicated Iomega Network hard drive but seem to come over a lot of conflicting reports of these items not working well with MAC, particularily some comments on the use of Iomega which is the more cost effective solution.
A little background was planning on 2TB drives and partioning for Itunes library, Time Machine backups and PC backups. Have the S/W on MAC to read/write NTFS.
From my research the dedicated NAS would be appear to be the best answer but a lot more expensive than a network drive.
Can anyone advise of a network drive that they have experienced working well for this type of configuration?
Also is there any issues with syncing Iphone to an external networked library?
    Any Advice Appreciated
    Thanks

    Trev,
changing iTunes media folder location via preferences > advanced tells iTunes where to put new additions to your library, not where the current content is.
also, with your library now on the NAS, you must make sure the NAS is mounted on your desktop before launching iTunes.
... still showed an issue with the file locations and the exclamation marks.
you may have done something wrong initially (during re-locating your library to the NAS) because the exclamation marks usually appear when media files were moved using the finder and iTunes lost track of their location.
you might be able to use this script:
    iTunes Track CPR v1.3
This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."

  • Delete songs from playlist, library and off the hard drive at the same time

I have playlists full of captured radio streams that I keep briefly for discovering new music. But periodically I want to clean them out. I know I can delete the files from the playlist, then go in and delete the song from the main library, and the authorize iTunes to go ahead and move those songs to the trash. But since these songs are nice and efficiently grouped by playlist, I want to have the option to delete the songs from the playlist and at the same time remove them from the main library and move the actual files to the trash. Any way to do this?
I know the idea is to keep you from accidentally deleting your original song files just because you want to take them out of a playlist, but I want the option to get rid of them all together.

Answered: Select the song in the playlist, hit command-option delete, and you'll get a dialog box with the option of leaving the song in the main library or moving it to the trash.

  • ITunes library and my external hard drive

My iTunes library is on an external hard drive (for well over a year with no problems). All of a sudden, my laptop/iTunes can't locate the files unless I manually go into the HD and find it. How do I get my laptop to automatically read the library?

Normally your iTunes library is created at <User's Music>\iTunes with the media folder at <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Media with the exact path to <User's Music> depending on the version of the operating system and your profile's user name.
With things in this layout you can move the main iTunes folder to a new path and things generally carry on working. (There is a minor exception for iPod Games/Mobile Applications if the library is in the pre-iTunes 9 layout.)
What tends to happen when people run out of room is that they read some advice about relocatiing the media folder rather than the library as a whole. This involves nominating a new location for the media folder, then consolidating all content to that new location, leaving the original copies behind to be tidied up by hand. While this works it removes the resiliance of the self-contained library.
Take a look at one of files that can be found. The path should be something like <Drive Letter:>\<Some Folders>\[Music\]<Album Artist>\<Album>\## <Track>.<ext>. Your media folder under Edit > Preferences > Advanced should be the same as this bit: <Drive Letter:>\<Some Folders>
Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
There is a hidden file called .iTunes Preferences.plist in the media folder that lets iTunes know if it is in the new layout or the old one. Occasionaly this file can be incorrectly updated which could be a cause of your current issue. There is a line in the file that reads <integer>0</integer> if the folders are in the old layout or <integer>1</integer> if they are in the new one. Correct the value if necessary and restart iTunes.
Again, if that doesn't fix it, try selecting some broken tracks and using my FindTracks script. If it works for them then it should work for the rest.

  • Integration of RMAN with virtual tape library

OS: Oracle Linux 5.5 UEK (Virtualbox)
    Oracle: 11gR2 11.2.0.1 Enterprise + ASM (Virtualbox)
    Hello,
I would like to test something about RMAN and writing directly to tape. For this I installed mhvtl, a virtual tape library. The installation was pretty easy. http://sites.google.com/site/linuxvtl2/
RMAN does not recognize any tape in the system.
ORA-19554: error allocating device, device type: SBT_TAPE, device name:
ORA-27211: Failed to load Media Management Library
What I found out is that in order to make backups to a media manager, RMAN must communicate with a media management library, which is a 3rd party library that is not supplied by Oracle. So I guess unless there is a Oracle MML library available for mtx I' out of luck here.
    Any ideas? Thanks!
    rpm -ivh mhvtl-0.18-13.x86_64.rpm
    rpm -ivh mhvtl-0.18-13.src.rpm
    cd /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/
    tar zxvf ../SOURCES/mhvtl-2011-01-11.tgz
    cd mhvtl-0.18/kernel
    make
    make install
    /etc/init.d/mhvtl start
    yum install mtx
The tape library and using it for backup from system seems to work fine:
    # mtx status
    Storage Changer /dev/changer:4 Drives, 43 Slots ( 4 Import/Export )
    Data Transfer Element 0:Full (Storage Element 1 Loaded):VolumeTag = E03001L4
    etc.
    # mtx load 1
Drive 0 Full (Storage Element 1 loaded)
    # tar cf /dev/ntape ./
    # tar tvf /dev/ntape

I installed Oracle Secure Backup Express and spend all afternoon with this strange product, mainly to troubleshoot the installation and setup. I'm not really sure everything works - it's quite a piece of software, as usual.

I finally got it running. I deleted the current library and drive configuration and used the webtool to configure the other library at /dev/sg17. it was also necessary to use the webtool to load a volume into the drive. Unfortunately I did not note down the steps in details. Maybe next time.

    Thanks..

    Hi Surajsid
Do you still have a support contract for this Library ? If it's still showing the same issues after power cycling the drive I would log a call with Orcale/Sun.
Have you changed anything in your backup environment lately ?

  • Tape Library - Extend Expired Tapes

    Hi,
I have several questions regarding the Tape Library behavior.
I have DPM 2012 R2 UR3 with VTL library. I have several PG that is using Long-Term-backup to the VTL. I have several protection Groups that is having long term backup. Each PG have its own Library with several tapes presented. The schema is 1 month
kept for 12 months and 1 year kept in 5 years. my questions are:-
    1. Is it possible to extend tapes expiration date? For example changing the 1 month to be kept for 10 years?
    i read this thread
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bf5115d4-a050-4aca-9759-8180c415d415/how-can-i-change-tape-expiry?forum=dpmtapebackuprecovery and Mike wrote
•Expiry dates for valid datasets that are already written to tape are changed when the retention range is changed during a protection group modification.
To change the behavior create the IsDatasetExpiryDateChangeInModifyPgAllowed DWORD value under the following registry key, and then set its value data to 0:
       HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\Configuration\MediaManager
Does that means if i add "IsDatasetExpiryDateChangeInModifyPgAllowed " and change the Protection Group retention range will that change the expire date for all tapes in the library?
    2. If i present a new Library to each Long-term PG and kept the old library presented in DPM Library. Will the tapes still be usable even if they will expire? the idea behind that is keeping each library and its containing tapes untouchable for like 10 years
and when the tape expires i will mark them as free (contain data) and recategorize the tape. in that way i can still use the tapes for a specific amount of time.
    thanks in advance,
    Laith

    Hi,
Without the IsDatasetExpiryDateChangeInModifyPgAllowed registry value, when you change the goals for LT tape, DPM will change the expiry dates on existing media.  Some weird behavior can occur if you have three goals configured then go down to two or
one goal, so the registry value is meant to maintain the original goals.
Expired tapes are always usable / readable by DPM - the only restriction is you only get the option to restore to a network location and not back to original location.  DPM 2012 R2 UR3 did change behavior so the tapes show up on the normal calendar
and not under external dpm tapes tree, so you may want test that and see if there are other recover options for restoring from once expired tapes.

  • Failed Tape Library (now replaced with alternate) - Tapes inside still included in tape report as Ready for Offsite

Our tape library failed and we ended up replacing the library without it ever coming back online. We removed the tapes still loaded inside it when it failed and sent the tapes offsite.
In order to clear the failed tape library from DPM Management, we removed all disk based replicas that were copied to the failed tape library and updated the Protection Groups to reference the new library. There is no longer any reference to the failed tape
library in the DPM Management window.
However, our tape report still shows the tapes in the failed library as Ready for Offsite.
I am recalling the tapes that were in the old library to load them into the new library in the hope that DPM will see the tapes are now present in a different library and clear the Ready for Offsite from the report when I remove them.
Is this correct or do I need to do something nitty gritty?

    Hi,
That should work - once the tapes are loaded in the new library and an inventory is completed, then DPM should recognize them as the original tapes and show them offsite ready. Now when you remove them from the new library, the tapes should no longer show
    on the tape report.
NOTE: You may need to wait until summary manager job runs at midnight before the tape report is updated.

  • I've tried moving my iTunes library to an external hard drive but it is still on my local C drive?

    Hi there,
I am working on PC equipment here, not Apple.  I have tried consolidating my my iTunes library and changing the "iTunes Media folder location" to my external hard drive as described on some discussions on this website  and at first it seemed to work.  But when I disconnect my external hard drive (E: drive) and click my iTunes icon on my desktop, iTunes still comes from my local C: drive, so iTunes is still there taking up all my memory space on C:drive.  What I want to do is set up my iTunes to be entirely on my my external E: drive and not on my C:drive at all (it is taking up WAY too much memory on my c:drive).  So here are my questions:
    1.  If I have correctly copied all my iTunes library onto my E:drive - is it just a copy and all the original information is still in C;drive as well?  If so, how do I go about clearing my library in C:drive?
    2.  Do I have to 'unistall' iTunes from my C:drive to get rid of all my memory robbing iTune files.  If so, how can I make sure that all my information has been copied onto my external E:drive before I get rid of all my music?  I don't want to lose everything?
I just want to clear up my local C:drive on my laptop to get my memory back, what can I do?
    Thanks.

Thanks so much for your tip!!  I did that, but it says there's no files in the library.
Originaly in Itunes > preferences>advanced>under folder location I put in new path pointing to the Ex HD.  made a new folder for my son's library "Nick's Itunes Library". (Keep itunes media folder organized is checked).
    Clicked on change.
Then i was prompted ot move the exisiting files over which I did.  Went to File>Library>Organize Library>consolidate files>OK
I did all that.  I closed itunes, went to the external HD to verify all the files were there.  They were.  Went back into itunes on the mac mini HD and deleted the files one at a time.  I realize that this whole thing is not a deal breaker as it is all in iCloud.  And can be downloaded again if necessary.  But I want to know how to do this manually.
I just checked the external HD again. The files are there, Itunes isn't recognizing them is my guess.

  • How do I connect my library and playlists to iTunes 10 on PC.

My computer crashed. Luckily I had my extensive library and playlists on external drive. I have a newer PC now with Windows 7. I have tried to download a version of iTunes 10 but I am uncertain of how to connect them. I have made a link with my Library on my external drive and then dropped the library into the Music title on the iTunes window. It took a while to catalogue, making up album playlists, and then a window appeared saying "iTunes has stopped working." I doubtlessly did something wrong along the way. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out of this predicament and set me up in a working iTunes 10 that will take my my playlists and iPod Nanos 6th and 7th gen. I'm willing to start from scratch.

there are a load of suggestions in itune - this is not an icloud issue as wifi sync is seperate
many people have found success by restarting the applemobiledevices process and opening some ports on the firewall - all detailed under itunes support

  • L20 and IBM tape drive

    Hi all,
I have StorageTek L20 robot (FW 2.12.06) and IBM Ultrium-TD1 tape drive (FW:59C0) which i updated with latest firmware.
Now robot cannot recognise tape drive, with code: 00 Unknown Drive
I assume this is firmware related problem, so the question is:
Will robot firmware update to version 2.15.03 resolve this issue, and bring online my backup?

I have used external IBM SCSI drive with Solaris8 and legato without any issues.
What kind of a tape drive is it? What is the Sun Hardware platform being used? Are there any messages logged just before the panic? Is st.conf configured properly? Is there a problem on the scsi bus?
You might want to send the core files to Sun, if you have got suport on the box or use kdb yourself.
