Sldap.conf
What is the recommended logging level for this setting in a production setting?
J
I tried doing that but it doesn't have an option for computers or computer groups. The only things that you can select are users or user groups. If I restrict them down to a specific user group then they can't do anything on the computers.

Limiting directory admins rights
I am looking to create some dirctory admin users but I don't want them to be full directory admins. I just want them to be able to make any changes to the computers and the computer groups and not to be able to do anything with users or user groups. I think that it can be done in sldap.conf or in OLCBDBConfig {1}bdb then in olcAccess. The problem is that I everything I try nothing will work.
Any ideas on how to limit the access to only the computers and computer groups and not anything else.
It is OS X 10.5.4 and a clean install of Open Directory.I tried doing that but it doesn't have an option for computers or computer groups. The only things that you can select are users or user groups. If I restrict them down to a specific user group then they can't do anything on the computers.

Problem With httpd.conf and mod_rewrite rules Apache 2.2
I have some RewriteRules that are working on my Leopard Client Apache 2.2 machine - but when I try to implement them on Leopard Server Apache 2.2, they don't work. I don't get any errors, they just won't execute.
Could somebody with Leopard Server help me out using the below info?
Here are the rules I am trying to add: (below is the httpd.conf file)

=========HTTPD.CONF=============
#### Default httpd.conf for Mac OS X Server, Apache 2.2
#### This httpd.conf differs from the httpd.conf distributed
#### with Apache and the httpd.conf present on Mac OS X.
#### Feel free to edit this; the Server Admin app also edits this file but will
#### respect your changes unless noted below. See also ReadMe.txt.
## ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
## configuration, error, and log files are kept.
## NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
## mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation
## (available at <URL:<a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#lockfile>);
## you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
## Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
ServerRoot "/usr"
## PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
## identification number when it starts.
PidFile /var/run/httpd.pid
## ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information.
## Not all architectures require this. But if yours does (you'll know because
## this file will be created when you run Apache) then you must ensure that
## no two invocations of Apache share the same scoreboard file.
#ScoreBoardFile "/var/run/apache2runtimestatus"
## Server-pool size regulation. Rather than making you guess how many
## server processes you need, Apache dynamically adapts to the load it
## sees --- that is, it tries to maintain enough server processes to
## handle the current load, plus a few spare servers to handle transient
## load spikes (e.g., multiple simultaneous requests from a single
## Netscape browser).
## It does this by periodically checking how many servers are waiting
## for a request. If there are fewer than MinSpareServers, it creates
## a new spare. If there are more than MaxSpareServers, some of the
## spares die off. The default values are probably OK for most sites.
MinSpareServers 1
MaxSpareServers 1
## Number of servers to start initially --- should be a reasonable ballpark
## figure.
StartServers 1
## MaxRequestsPerChild: the number of requests each child process is
## allowed to process before the child dies. The child will exit so
## as to avoid problems after prolonged use when Apache (and maybe the
## libraries it uses) leak memory or other resources. On most systems, this
## isn't really needed, but a few (such as Solaris) do have notable leaks
## in the libraries. For these platforms, set to something like 10000
## or so; a setting of 0 means unlimited.
## NOTE: This value does not include keepalive requests after the initial
## request per connection. For example, if a child process handles
## an initial request and 10 subsequent "keptalive" requests, it
## would only count as 1 request towards this limit.
MaxRequestsPerChild 100000
## Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support
## To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you
## have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the
## directives contained in it are actually available before they are used.
## Please read the file http://httpd.apache.org/docs/dso.html for more
## details about the DSO mechanism and run `httpd -l' for the list of already
## built-in (statically linked and thus always available) modules in your httpd
## binary.
## Note: The order in which modules are loaded is important. Don't change
## the order below without expert advice.
## Example:
## LoadModule foo_module libexec/mod_foo.so
#### For Mac OS X Server: Note that the Server Admin application
#### and the apxs utility enable and disable modules
#### by removing and adding a comment character.

# Settings for hosting different languages.
# Required modules: mod_mime, mod_negotiation
# DefaultLanguage and AddLanguage allows you to specify the language of
# a document. You can then use content negotiation to give a browser a
# file in a language the user can understand.
# Specify a default language. This means that all data
# going out without a specific language tag (see below) will
# be marked with this one. You probably do NOT want to set
# this unless you are sure it is correct for all cases.
# * It is generally better to not mark a page as
# * being a certain language than marking it with the wrong
# * language!
# DefaultLanguage nl
# Note 1: The suffix does not have to be the same as the language
# keyword --- those with documents in Polish (whose net-standard
# language code is pl) may wish to use "AddLanguage pl .po" to
# avoid the ambiguity with the common suffix for perl scripts.
# Note 2: The example entries below illustrate that in some cases
# the two character 'Language' abbreviation is not identical to
# the two character 'Country' code for its country,
# E.g. 'Danmark/dk' versus 'Danish/da'.
# Note 3: In the case of 'ltz' we violate the RFC by using a three char
# specifier. There is 'work in progress' to fix this and get
# the reference data for rfc1766 cleaned up.
# Catalan (ca) - Croatian (hr) - Czech (cs) - Danish (da) - Dutch (nl)

========HTTPD.CONF==========I am modifying the correct httpd.conf file on the server, it just doesn't seem to work. - If I put the rewrite rules in the <Directory /> the rewrite works but it adds /Library/WebServer/Documents to the URL.
I also tried putting the rewrite rules in <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> but that did not work either.
mod_rewrite is enabled and running on the server.
I will post the rewrite rules again in the code brackets. Sorry for the long post. - If some one can try them out on their Leopard Server to see if they can get them to work, it would be much appreciated. Again, these work on my Leopard Client but I can't get them to work on Server.
-- The httpd.conf file posted above is just the default conf file found in /private/etc/apache2/

As the subject says. According to this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201684, they should. However according to the man page for launchd.conf. "launchd.conf is no longer respected by the system." Setting "umask 077" in /etc/launchd-user.conf should be forcing the default file creation permissions to 600, and folder creation to 700, but it is not doing anything.
I've tried this on a fresh install of 10.10.2. doing a "touch 1" creates a file named 1 with the perms -rw-r--r--. On a Mavericks install it creates a file named 1 with the perms -rw------- as expected.Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Does anybody else a a VGN-T150P or any of these problems? I'm not very good a writing/decoding xorg.conf files so if anybody could help it would be greatly appreciated
Last edited by jsh33 (2009-02-08 14:52:01)I download xf86-video-fbdev just for fun before I saw your post, I didn't do anything as far as I could see.
I commented these lines out:
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1"
Load "record"
Load "type1"
B, I didn't install any fonts but now I installed a buch of random fonts:
pacman -S ttf-ms-fonts ttf-cheapskate artwiz-fonts xorg-fonts-75dpi xorg-fonts-100dpi
and did some of what the X.org configuration wiki said:
fc-cache -fv
/usr/bin/fc-cache
/usr/bin/mkfontscale
/usr/bin/mkfontdir
ln -s /usr/share/fonts/encodings/encodings.dir encodings.dir
Then this I changed this:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "intel"
VendorName "All"
BoardName "All"
EndSection
EDIT, halfway through this post I realized I type in biagio's code wrong, I re-typed it and now my X works!
Thanks Everybody for the help! , here's the working xorg.conf for reference:

How to configure the rc.conf for a HUAWEI E220 modem
Hello.
I configured my HUAWEI E220 after the instructions in the wiki, and it's working well. BUT, I can't connect to the internet. I think that is because i didn't made any modifications at the network configurations in the rc.conf file. I don't know what to change. What should I write in it (i know that i can't use eth0 anymore, but what is the right interface for HUAWEI, ppp0, ttyUSB0...)? Thank you.I knocked together an RC script to start and stop the connection, which is ppp0
from it:
/usr/bin/wvdial three &> /dev/null &
route add default gw 10.64.64.64 &> /dev/null &
rm /etc/resolv.conf
echo nameserver 208.67.222.222 >> /etc/resolv.conf
perhaps this helps? -
In ERPI 11.1.1.3 Admin guide its mentioned we need to update the below , do we need to do the same in 11.1.2.2 version also
Updating the snpsagent.conf File
ä To update the snpsagent.conf file:
1 Navigate to the folder where Oracle Data Integrator is installed.
For example, C:\OraHome_1\oracledi\tools\wrapper\conf.
2 Using a text editor, open the snpsagent.conf file.
3 Search for: wrapper.java.library.path.1.
4 On a new line, add the following text:
wrapper.java.library.path.2=../drivers
5 Close and save the file.
Updating the Windows Environment Variable
After you update the snpsagent.conf file, add the ODI drivers path information to the
Windows environment variable.
ä To update the Windows environment variable:
1 On the desktop, right-click My Computer, select Properties. Select the Advanced tab, and then click
Environment Variables.
2 In the System variables section, select the Path variable, and then click Edit.
3 At the end of the Variable value line, add a semi-colon (;), and then add the Oracle Data Integrator
driver path.
For example, C:\OraHome_1\oracledi\drivers.
4 Click OK three times.
5 Restart the Oracle Data Integrator Agent Service.
ThanksYou should not have to do this in ODI 11.1.1.6 for ERPi 11.1.2.2.

Software raid won't boot after updating to "mdadm" in mkinitcpio.conf
After a power outage I've discovetred the config I was using (with raid in mkinitcpio.conf) no longer works, it's mdadm now - that's fine. I've updated that and re-run mkinitcpio successfully, however my system is unable to boot from the root filesystem /dev/md2 like so:
Waiting for 10 seconds for device /dev/md2 ...
Root device '/dev/md2' doesn't exist. Attempting to create it.
ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device '/dev/md2'.
You are being dropped to a recovery shell
Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
[ramfs /]#
As far as I can see from reading various threads and http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … AID_or_LVM I'm doing the right things now (although I'm not using lvm at all, which makes the installation document a little confusing).
I think I've included all the appropriate bits of config here that should be working. I assume I've missed something fundamental - any ideas?

Thanks!Hi magec, that's quite helfpul - I've certainly got further.
Before I was doing this to set up the chroot (which is what is suggested in the wiki article about setting up software raid):
mdadm -A /dev/md1 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1
mdadm -A /dev/md2 /dev/sda2 /dev/sdb2
mount /dev/md2 /mnt
mount /dev/md1 /mnt/boot
mount -o bind /dev /mnt/dev
mount -t proc none /mnt/proc
chroot /mnt /bin/bash
But based on your suggestion it's working better
mdadm -A /dev/md1 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1
mdadm -A /dev/md2 /dev/sda2 /dev/sdb2
mount /dev/md2 /mnt
mount /dev/md1 /mnt/boot
mount -t proc none /mnt/proc
mount -t sysfs none /mnt/sys
mount -n -t ramfs none /mnt/dev
cp -Rp /dev/* /mnt/dev
chroot /mnt /bin/bash
The boot is now getting further, but now I'm getting:
md: md2 stopped.
md: bind<sdb2>
md: bind<sda2>
raid1: raid set md2 active with 2 out of 2 mirrors
md2: detected capacity change from 0 to 32218349568
mdadm: /dev/md2 has been started with 2 drives.
md2: Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/md2 ...
unknown partition table
mount: mounting /dev/md2 on /new_root failed: No such device
ERROR: Failed to mount the real root device.
Bailing out, you are on your own. Good luck.
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job contol turned off
[ramfs /]#
The bit that really confuses me is this:
[ramfs /]# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid1]
md2 : active raid1 sda2[0] sdb2[1]
31463232 blocks [2/2] [UU]
md1 : active raid1 sda1[0] sdb1[1]
208704 blocks [2/2] [UU]
unused devices: <none>
[ramfs /]# mount /dev/md2 /new_root
mount: mounting /dev/md2 on /new_root failed: No such file or directory
[ramfs /]# ls /dev/md2
/dev/md2
[ramfs /]#
So the array is up, the device node is there but it can't be mounted? Very strange.

Hi all,
I have a single-user laptop, so I'd like to configure my X keyboard layout and options globally instead of doing it for any WM/DE I might happen to use. And most importantly, the desktop manager (GDM) should already use my layout. So my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf contains this section:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
MatchIsKeyboard "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "evdev"
Option "XkbLayout" "de"
Option "XkbVariant" "dvorak"
Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:nocaps"
EndSection
The result is that I have my German Dvorak layout in GDM and in whatever WM I choose there. However, the ctrl:nocaps option seems to be ignored. In GDM, CapsLock is still CapsLock, not an additional CTRL. Why not?
Here's the Xorg.0.log in case that might shed some light. (Well, it actually only shows that the options seems to be applied to all keyboard devices...)

Did you ever get this issue resolved? Furthermore, did GDM apply some of your keyboard settings but not others - were you getting a dvorak layout but not the caps-lock control key?
Yes, exactly. I do get the Dvorak layout that's set in 10-evdev.conf, but not the ctrl:nocaps option that's set there as well. -
Apache Plugin is not working with Cluster Entry in httpd.conf
Hi Guys,
We have a very particular issue that is happening here in our production environments. Before explaining the issue to you, I will just give a brief of our architecture.
We are using Weblogic Portal Platform SP4.
Our current Production Domain Consists of 1 Admin Server and 2 Managed Servers. The managed servers are in a cluster.
We have two Linux boxes on which the weblogic servers are running. These two machines have IPs: x.x.x.58 and x.x.x.59. Now, the Admin Server and managed Server 1 are started on the machine x.x.x.58 and managed server 2 is started on the machine x.x.x.59. Both the managedServers listen on port 8007.
This entire setup mentioned in the above paragraph is at a location A (lets say).
Now, the requests are proxied to the managed server cluster using BEA's Apache plugin residing on Apache. Apache is running on two Linux boxes that are present at a location B.
Location B is connected to Location A by a dedicated WAN Link.
Now, before the two Apache servers there is a physical Load Balancer that balances the requests between the two Apache boxes.
This means that whenever there is a request from the Internet to the weblogic cluster, the load balancer first sends it to either of the Apache servers and then the BEA Apache plugin on that Apache forwards the request via the 2 mbps WAN link to the weblogic cluster.
Now following is the description of the issue we are facing. We donot know whether the issue is with the plugin or with weblogic server.
In order that the plugin load balances the requests between the servers in the cluster and for failover, the following entry was put in httpd.conf on both the Apache Servers.
WebLogicCluster y.y.y.11:8007,y.y.y.13:8007
Note: Because of the WAN link there is natting used. This implies y.y.y.11 is natted to x.x.x.58 and y.y.y.13 is natted to x.x.x.59.
Here in lies the issue. When we use this plugin entry the following issue occurs.
1. First we go to the home page and login.
2. The user is then redirected to a Portal Desktop fitting those credentials.
3. Now on this Portal Desktop, invariably whenever we click any of the desktop's links, an HTTP 403 is thrown. This error is thrown because on the desktop there are entitlements so that it cannot be accessed without a user logging in with credentials. But this error indicates that the server is losing the session and entitlement details.
Why does this happen?
As a result, we cannot use that plugin entry. The current entry we have is
WebLogicHost y.y.y.11
WebLogicPort 8007
As you can see, here we are only redirecting to one managed server. This entry is not what we want, obviously because if that server fails, the plugin wont know which other server to pass the request on to. Also in this case there is no load balancing.
Our issues our,
1. How to resolve this plugin entry issue. How can we use the cluster entry without encountering this HTTP 403 Error?
3. Consider the following sequence of steps.
- Request for the home page is served by Apache Server 1
- User logins in, the login request is sent by the Load Balancer to Apache Server 1 and plugin on Apache Server 1 sends it to the cluster via WAN l ink. Then the internal mechanism works with creating the session id and primary server and secondary server and logs the user in and sends the response via Apache Server 1.
- Now, the user clicks a link on the desktop. The request now goes to the load balancer and it sends it to Apache Server 2.
The question is now does the plugin on Apache server 2 correctly understand and send the request to the primary server of that session.
Pls help me as to giving me some direction in resolving this issueFrom your Xorg.0.log:

Hi,
I need to config the file to direct the standard ApEx URL (ie: http://xxx.x.x.x:8080/apex/f?p=108:1) to a nicer URL (ie: http://xxx.x.x.x:8080/apex/test.html, for example) to the end users. I believe the file should be located in something like $ORCLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf in the Oracle HTTP Server Apache web server version. However, it's NOT in the Embedded PL/SQL Gateway version.
Any idea?
Thanks much,
HelenI don't think that you could do this using the native embedded gateway. Since it is not actually running Apache. It is actually running through the XML DB connectors.
2 options:
1) Use a front end server as a proxy, or as the mod_plsql gateway
2) Pretty up your URL's using the application/page aliases: http://xxx.x.x.x:8080/apex/f?p=app:page where app and page have been assigned as application and page aliases resp.

Not sure if an update broke pacman and resolv.conf
Hey guys
Sorry about these noobish questions but I have googled and i just cant seem to find a solution.
Couple of things.
First, I did a "pacman -Syu" and update the system earlier today.
Then, I tried installing a package and i saw pacman cold not connect to mirrors. I did some search on the forums and people were pointing at resolv.conf issues. So i looked there and turns out I had
nameserver 192.168.1.1
as the only line listed so i fixed it to google servers and also restarted for the sake of it.
after restart,
I noticed my resolv.conf had these lines
# Generated by Connection Manager
nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver ::1
How do i find what network manager i am using and what program is doing this ?
I couldnt connect to the internet with this.
so i went ahead and added the "8.8.8.8" server and i could connect just fine.
Not sure what caused this my machine was just fine before the "pacman -Syu" update. How do i check what packages were updated most recently ?
2. I just cannot seem to connect to the mirrors anymore although i am connected to the internet just fine.
Note: I did not change any config files unless the update changed these recently.
Here is what i see

Last edited by ibexmonj (2014-02-19 06:26:16)I only have a ethernet connection on my desktop and i believe the only thing i setup (its been a while ) was dhcpcd
so i even added "nohook resolv.conf" to /etc/dhcpcd.conf and after i reboot its still been overwritten
and here is the pacman log for the packages i was able to update just a couple of hours ago.
before this there was an update i did on 2/12 and that went fine as well. And i remember doing a few restarts then too.
not sure what i messed up here.

How to configure httpd.conf for multiple websites on one webserver
So, right now I have my primary website on a pay-for domain. A friend of mine wants a website and I want to host his and my sites on the same server. For his website, I'll use a DynDNS address.
So, pretty much, I want to be able to go to my domain and get my site and go to his domain and get his site. I've spent hours trying to get VirtualHosts to work, but haven't gotten it to work yet.
PS. In Apache, I have User set to Administrator (my user name).
MacBook Pro 2.16 Mac OS X (10.4.9)First, set the user back to www or whatever it was. To do namebased virtual hosting, you'll need to change two things. The first is to add a NameVirtualHost directive to /etc/httpd/sites/virtualhostglobal.conf
This is one of the VirtualHost stanzas from my Linux box, you just have to adjust the paths for your machine:
<VirtualHost www.mydomain.com>
ServerAlias mydomain.com
ServerAdmin [email protected]
DocumentRoot /usr/people/httpd/html/www
<Directory /usr/people/httpd/html/www>
Options Includes
AllowOverride AuthConfig
</Directory>
ScriptAlias /bin /usr/people/httpd/cgi-bin/www
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin /usr/people/httpd/cgi-bin/www
</VirtualHost>
Restart Apache and you should be good to go. If there are errors, could you post them from /var/log/httpd/error_log ?

"httpd.conf" Error - any one know how to fix?
Hi -
I'm trying to set up the development area. When I go to preferences to get to my computers website the following error shows up:
"Safari can’t open the page “http://10.0.1.4/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “10.0.1.4”.
So I opened monitor and did a config test and got an error message which I don't know how to fix:
agent-99:~ mac$ apachectl configtest
Syntax error on line 274 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
LogFormat takes 1-2 arguments, a log format string (see docs) and an optional format name
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've been worKing on it all day and no luck! any advice would be appreciated!274 is blank. directly below it is:
275 # Note that from this point forward you must
specifically allow # particular features to be enabled - so if something's not working as
# you
might expect, make sure that you have specifically enabled it

# This should be
changed to whatever you set DocumentRoot to.

Option A, 2 PE pair per Provider, Redundancy
Hi All, Requesting suggestions for the following scenario, let's say we have 2 service providers (SP) offering MPLS VPNs through Option A (Back to Back VRF). These SPs are connecting through two PE/ASBRs each, like SP As, PE_A1 and PE_A2 and SP Bs, P
