SLED11 SP1: CUPS printer settings after ZMD image installation

Using ZMD10 for creating an image of SLED11 SP1 with CUPS and iPrint
Client I noticed that the printer settings on the freshly installed
machine are off.
More specifically all documents are printed single sided even if duplex
printing is specified. Opening the CUPS configuration at localhost:631
and setting the printer options again fixes the issue, But then I do not
want to log in to every single machine in order to make this adjustment.
Creating an lpoptions file with lpoptions has no effect. So I'm looking
for a solution on how to make this work. Where does CUPS store the
printer configuration other than in the ppd files, lpoptions or
printers.conf? All these files are included in the ZMD image.

iPhoto 08 contact print problems - after 5 images. prints pt a screenshot

Okay - So, I teach photography and have my students print contact sheets from iPhoto version 08.  I have one student (out of forty) having the following problem (I have removed preferences, reinstalled iPhoto, used the iPhoto updater for 7.1.5, reloading the printer driver and upgrading the system software to 10.6.8 {I teach in a high school, so no funds for newer software})
The problem is isolated to one student - the others on the same machine do NOT have the same problem.  When this student selects more than 5 images, the resulting output looks as if he has taken a screen shot - the palettes on the left of the frame show and the titles he has inserted (using Batch Change) are moved on to the pictures.
At this point, I am going to let him screenshot his submissions, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
    Thanks!

  • AutoVue 2D loses configuration and printer settings after 4 or 5 days

AutoVue 2D loses configuration and printer settings after 4 or 5 days, and resets defaults

I purchased a single Oracle AutoVue 2D Professional License. It is loaded locally on a windows 7 workstation with full administrative rights, our network server runs server 2008, all updates are current. We use AutoVue primarily for viewing and printing autocad files, but some other graphic programs and pdf files also.
In configure/general I add the force to black option, in font paths I add the path to our AutoCAD fonts folder, and in colors I change the background to black. In the printer dialogue box,  I set page area to "limits", check "force to black" and "skip blank pages". I then modify the pen settings and save them as a named setting. That's it.
It all works very well for 4 or 5 days then everything resets to defaults, even the named pen settings are lost. It's like I have a trial version and it's only functional for a few days unless its activated, but Oracle says there is no license key for this software I tried loading it on a different workstation with the same results.
    thanks for your help

  • CUPS: Printer crashes after a few prints

    Hi all,
I have a Canon MP600 printer/scanner connected via USB to a small print- and scan-server running Arch (last update was yesterday). The printer is shared over the network and can be accessed from a Windows 7 client. But from time to time after 1-2 prints the printer crashes. I that happens, only a power disconnect can bring it back. In addition, I have to delete the printer from the CUPS config and add it again. While this happens, CUPS shows the status "Sending data to printer". The printer is set as a raw printer. Same happens, when the printer is installed with the gutenprint driver and accessed from a Linux machine. "usblp" is blacklisted.

I do not have any idea what to do here. A Google search did not help. Every hint is appreciated Thanks in advance!
I posted the problem also in the German Archlinux forum.
    Best regards

The same for me. iPhone 4S, itunes match and upgrade to ios7 by air.
    So what we have:
    1) Music app does not launch (white screen then close)
    2) About screen crashes (I guess once it tries to calculate music space)
    3) Spotlight does not show any results (no care what I set to search in in the preferences)
    4) iTunes Match slider can not be set to Off. However, it is possible to logout from AppleID, then it off. But this does not change the situaton at all
    5) Podcast app does not launch
I tried to reboot, to sign in with another Apple ID, to turn off itunes Match, to reset all preferences. Nothing helps.
    Things to try:
    - reset all preferences and content
    - reinstall ios7 with itunes from scratch
    - switch to windows phone

  • CUPS Printing broken after 10.4.11 upg

I have just combo updated 2 x PowerPC and 1 x Intel Mac to 10.4.11 after which they will not print via the FieryCupsFilter to a PostScript Minolta printer - 10.4.10 and earlier Macs are still OK. Printing appears to be normal in that the Print Monitor shows the file being processed after which nothing comes out of the printer. I have re-set the printing system and re-installed the drivers to no avail. Any help appreciated.

What I would recommend is that you post your problem to the Tiger Printing & Faxing forum area here:

  • HT1551 How do I fix a 2nd generation Apple TV that does not restore to factory settings after a failed installation of software update 6.0?

Yesterday, I got asked by my 2nd generation Apple TV if I wanted to update download and install the new software update. I clicked "Yes" and the download and installation process began. Nothing out of the ordinary happened and when the installation completed the Apple TV automatically rebooted itself, which is what has happened with previous software updates.
Alas, after reboot, the only thing that appeared on screen was an old iTunes logo (the one with the CD in the background) and what looked like a USB cable. I went online and found out that other people had been experiencing similar problems with the newly released Apple TV 6.0 update and that they had also ended up with the same image on their screen.
As it turns out, this image apparently means that you need to restore your Apple TV to factory settings by hooking it up to your computer using a micro-USB cable and then using iTunes to restore it in a way analogous to restoring an iPhone via iTunes.
I followed all of the instructions to the letter such as disconnecting my Apple TV from all cables including the power cord and then hooking it up to my computer with the micro-USB cable. I opened iTunes and absolutely nothing happened. The Apple TV does not appear as a device so I am not able to restore it.
I have attempted rebooting my computer and leaving my Apple TV disconnected for a while before hooking it up to my computer since it apparently has an internal baterry that keeps a charge for about 30 seconds after being disconnected. Nothing has worked.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    System configuration:
Apple TV 2nd generation running update 5.3
    iTunes version 11.1 (126)
Mac OS X 10.8.5 on an Intel Core 2 Duo

Did you follow the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367
Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.
Also some microUSB leads don't seem to work - try another if you can. Disconnect superfluous USB device/hubs too if possible.

  • Cannot recover Satellite to factory settings after Win XP installation

I was running windows recovery then I choose option "delete all data.... "something like that.
Then in the middle by mistake I turned off the system.
After I tried to started windows if was giving error "operating system missing". I manage to install WINDOWS XP so I might able to access HDD RECOVERY but nothing happened.
I tried pressing "F8" key and also "0" key when computer start at "toshiba" logo but it's still not giving me option to recover my computer back to windows vista or you can say "out of box state".
One Important things is, while installing windows XP its showed me that HDD recovery exists and only 973MB is free out of 5665MB. It means I still have all the windows and drivers on HDD. Now please help to recovery system back normal or OUT OF BOX STATE.

    > After I tried to started windows if was giving error "operating system missing". I manage to install WINDOWS XP so I might able to access HDD RECOVERY but nothing happened.
The Win XP installation has damage and deleted the boot manager and the options preinstalled by Toshiba and supported by Toshiba image.
This means that if you will not be able to recover the unit using the HDD recovery option.
You could recover the unit back to factory settings only using the Toshiba recovery disk!!! But I assume you didnt create such disk is it right?
Well, in such case you could order such disk from here:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

I just bought an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and the printed images look yellow. I calibrate my MacBook Pro monitor with a ColorMunki Display. I want to make sure my Lightroom print settings are correct.

This what I have been trying......  Maybe my eyes are screwed up or don't understand the process....
What I have been trying to do is squint and make the apple disappear by moving the sliders around in each step. Is that correct?

I have reported the problem of pasting settings to multiple images for many versions and this simple bug is STILL present in LR4!
In develop module, make changes to an image, click Copy button, select settings to copy.
Now, select a range or a number of images to which you want to paste the settings, click Paste button.  Guess what?  Only the first image gets the settings!
This functionality should work and is even documented in the manual.  There are other ways of copying settings but I can never remember how to do this.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a genuine bug that only seems to affect a few people (I did a web search for V3), or do people just not use this function?
Please developers, fix this bug if it really is a bug!

    Thanks Dorin for the information.
I guess I am just frustrated that the program does not work the way it is documented.  There are two very prominent buttons, Copy & Paste and they don't work as documented or as you would expect them to.
With sync you have to navigate menus to do what one click of the mouse should accomplish.  All I want is some acknowledgement from Adobe that this is a bug and for it to be adressed.  As a long-time IT person I know this would be VERY easy to fix.  If it cannot be fixed then update the documentation.
Oh well, enough said.  I still love LR!!!

  • Don't have printer settings for Epson CX9400fax since upgrading to SL

I recently upgrade my operating system from Tiger to Snow Leopard (after a HD crash). I have an Epson CX9400fax all-in-one machine and I am able to print, but I no longer have the Printer Settings options as before - where you can change paper, ink, etc. I'm trying to print from Photoshop CS5, if that's relevant at all.
This is what I am looking for:
    tons of options/setting to adjust
And this is what I have now:
    basically just print.
    Here's the driver info:
Is this something on Epson's end that hasn't been updated yet?
I've looked around, both here and online and haven't really got anywhere. If ANYONE can help, I will be very appreciative.
Oh, and I'm a first-timer so please be nice :0)

    Hi,
Welcome to Apple Discussions. I had the same problem with my Epson printer and solved it by going to Apple Support [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4169]. You can rearrange your printer settings using CUPS from there. Also, click on the triangle to the right of the Printer Name window to get an expanded menu.
Good luck and a Merry Christmas.

  • Color Printing Problems after update dec28/07

Last night I installed the latest updates for PS CS3 on 2 machines and both machines have the exact same color issues while printing with two different Canon printers.
    The Problem:
Since this last update all images I try in print from 16bit ProPhoto or AdobeRGB 16bit, converted from Canon RAW through ACR look sepia tone, there is virtually no color (images still look as they did before on my monitor). In order to get the color to print I must convert image profiles to 8 or 16 Bit sRGB. I have not changed any settings after the update and confirmed that the update made no changes to the printers set up. sRGB 8bit jpeg images print color as seen on the monitor.
BOTTOM LINE: I can no longer print ProPhoto or AdobeRGB color space on my 8 color Canon Printer

    Thanks Jeff
Both computers are PCs, one on XP, one on Vista, and printers are Canon i9900 and Canon ip4000 both are printing exactly the same way. Swoped printers between PCs with same outcome. Only changes made to both PCs was the CS3 update.
Jeff, I thought the problem may stem from the ACR RAW conversion as regular sRGB jpegs print the color as seen on my monitor. I have also submitted this question to the general PS forum...
Thanks again for taking the time to reply..

  • Print settings on Photoshop CS5

Has the ability to select print settings (size and type/profiles of paper to be printed) with Photoshop CS5 been elimnated?   Is there some different  way I can select the settings?
I am now unable to find a way to select size and paper type, even though I was able to until very recently. There is no longer a File>Print Settings pull down menu selection.  FYI: I'm using a Mac 10.9.2 and a Epson Sylus Photo 1800 printer. It seems when I go to print with Photo Shop the paper size is stuck on 4 x 6, even though when I hit Print, the window shows that the image is a larger size. There is a Print Settings button, but nothing happens if I click it. (I can print on larger size, like letter, if using any other application. I can get a decent print on 4x6 glossy paper, when that's the set image size.

Gooie dag! Fiery... I have worked with one in the past... My first gut feeling would be to try to reinstall the printer driver on that machine after Photoshop's install, but you indicate having done that already.
As an alternative, did you try to repair Photoshop's installation by running the installer again?
So, you cannot print, or cannot see the settings after the Photoshop print dialogue?

  • Printer settings not retained in preferences

    Hey Everyone
I need a little help. An error occurs everytime I try to select my Canon MP460 from the printer Preferences menu in the System Preferences window. I click the add button, it shows up with the driver and location filled in the pull down menus/boxes. Then I hit the Add button and a message comes up "An error occurred while tryint to add the selected printer. The printing service is not available."
I have tried holding the control button down and resetting the printer settings. To no avail. I did go to Terminal and type Sudo Cupsd.
That worked and loaded my printer. BUT, after I rebooted the machine, the settings were lost and I received the same error message as above when trying to add the printer again. So it seems I have to go to Terminal everytime I boot and type "Sudo cupsd" to load my printer.
Any thoughts? Thanks (I also trashed the printing preference files (plist) in an attempt to fix this problem, again to no avail.

Fixed the problem. Thanks for reading my question. For those with this problem, I found permissions errors on the org.cups.cupsd.plist file in Launch Daemons, which is strange considering I do not remember touching this file in any way. But after the repair, I opened the System Preferences:Printer and Fax settings. It gave me the error. I used Terminal and typed in "Sudo cupsd" and then my password. This allows the Printer/Fax Settings to be set in System Preferences without any errors. I set the printer as the default in Printer Settings, I restarted and it retained everything.

  • Print settings for photos for HP Photosmart 3180

When I first hooked up the HP3180 I tried printing photos from iPhoto and could select 4x6 from the iPhoto Print window. I printed several photos easily.
After my daughter had been using the MacBook for several weeks (wirelessly connecting to printer through Airport Express), the Print settings changed. Now, my Paper choices include many choices of strange sets of numbers numbers but none are 4x6, 5x7, etc. Also the Presets used to include "Photo Paper" and other choices. What happened to those settings? Is it Express or Bonjour-related. There is no way now to select 4x6 in the Print window.

All of the directions received from all parties still do not solve this problem.
The correct printer Epson Stylus 2200 is selected in System Preferences as well as in PS Elements.  There are any number of dialogue boxes that open none of which allow a selection for type of paper or quality.  It even warns you when ready to print that the quality is only 220 dpi.
With my photo on the screen and a Command P or selecting print from the PSE File Print Menu the screen has the following settings
    1. Select Printer          Epson Stylus Photo 2200
    2. Select Paper Size    Letter
    3. Select Print Size      8" x 10"
    x     Crop to fit
    Print 1 copies of each
Help     Page Setup     More Options....                         Print     Cancel

System Preference all settings are correct Epson Stylus Photo 2200.
Note again all suggestions received work just fine if in IPhoto Command P opens screen with a selection called presets and it allows selection for photographs and type of paper.
Again thank you all for your help and patience.
