Sleek Ph

Hey, forgive me if this has been posted already, but the sleek photo has been put up on the creative products section: http://uk.europe.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=23&subcategory=24&product=425 9

I find it interesting that the Sleek Photo, just like the Micro Photo can't view pictures while playing music. I haven't kept uptodate on the discussions here on the forums, but I wonder if its the limitation of the hardware that does not allow the two players to view photos and play music at the same time.
It's nice the Sleek photo is finally gonna get released. Gi'ves people more option on the player they choose since most people don't need or want to play video files.

  • Creative Zen Sleek and the Now Playing-part of the firmw

    Hi,
this week I got my Creative Zen Sleek. I'm very satisfied, except for one thing - the Now Playing-part of the firmware (the list with all the songs queued up). In the old Nomad Jukebox Zen firmware, the list was divided by artist or album name. On the Zen Sleek, however, the list is just going on without even showing which songs belonging to which album etc.
This is really annoying me - would it be possible to fix this, or at least consider the possibility for this to be integrated in the next firmware upgrade?
    Sincerely
    Hein Haraldson Berg

& Putting the X-Fi into Recovery Mode and selecting clean up seemed to fix the problem, but it does still come up randomly.
The clean up puts the player menus back to their defaults though... any chance that in a future fix for the player, this wouldn't occur?

  • Creative Zen sleek, folder based explori

Ok, long story short. i upgraded my Zen sleeks firmware, and for my disapoint, i founded out that whit the new firmware i cant use the "Creative media explorer", and im "forced" to use ether the crappy Mediaplayer 0, or the the "drag and drop" function.
The problem is, for example i got folder "AC/DC" where i have lot of ACDC music, some of them are named by only the songs name, some of them are like "AC/DC - Highway to hell", some of them "ACDC - ****" and some of them "AC-DC - ****", now when i transfer that folder to my player, i got artist "AC/DC", "ACDC" "AC-DC" etc etc. Now, is there anyway to get rid of that "Artist, album" etc based browsing, and start to browse my music by folders?
Or, is there anyway to get the new firmware to work whit the creative media explorer? Since whit media explorer it was possible to convert folder names to "Artist names".
    thanks. Carl

Cat, this firmware is also available on the Creative US site; though the US Sleek was MTP/Janus out of the box (and its specs require WinXP), the specs didn't show Audible support. So there's definitely also a version of this firmware available that's not subject to EU volume-limiting regulations.
With the similarities between the Sleek and the Micro (similar controls, possibly similar chipsets?), does this indicate that an Audible upgrade is pending for Micro firmware (.x and/or 2.x)? And if so, will the 2.x upgrade also include the battery fixes in ..02?

  • Creative Zen Sleek Photo Firmware Download does not recognize my pla

My Creative Zen Sleek Photo recently froze up. After restarting it, the "firmware problem" screen popped up. After reading up on it a bit, I decided to first clean, then reformat, and then reload the firmware. Everything went smoothly until I went to load the firmware back onto my Zen.
For whatever reason a screen pops up that says that my device is not connected to the computer, when it, in fact, is. I have tried several things including uninstalling Windows Media Player and repeatedly cleaning and reformatting in hopes that it would recognize it.
I have had no prior problems with the computer recognizing the device and I have loaded quite a bit of music onto it through this computer. Can anyone please help? Any more ideas? Anything will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks?

HelloHave a look at this thread http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ead.php?t=6328?I had a similar problem with a Zen Sleek Photo and I am sure that this was the thread I used to recover the player when a firmware upgrade failed. Regards?

  • Zen Sleek -WMP 11 - PC Music Library -Playli

Since December I have been unable to create/edit/delete any playlists using the PC Music Library, ?my preferred method with Creative MediaSource Organiser, on my Zen Sleek 20GB which was bought in Sept 05?& has performed wonderfully until then. In fact the PC Music Library doesn't seem to recognise the Zen Sleek even though it is connected and confirms as much. The Zen Sleek &?the PC Music Library don't seem to synchronise when new tracks are being imported.Around this time I did download Windows Media Player , at first without being aware of the compatability issues and the firmware requirements. I have corrected these and upgraded where required. I have rolled back to WMP0 but this has not changed anything and have indeed gone back to WMP because of this. The only (marginal) success with playlists is with using the Organiser's synchronisation facility but it is very inconsistent in transferring files.Any Suggestions

  • My Creative Zen Sleek is bro

My Creti've Zen Sleek got dropped, so only half of the LCD display currently works. I have sent emails to Creative through the website asking for the necessary details so that it can be fixed, but have received absolutely no response. I understand that as it's accidental damage that I'll have to pay for the repairs and have no issue with this, so can someone please let me know the contact details I need so that I can send my Zen Sleek in to be fixed? I'm finding the zero response from Creative very frustrating, as I would like them to fix my device, rather than having to go elsewhere to try to get it fixed.

    Thanks Cat,
I have sent 2 emails, one quoting my work email, which I thought might have blocked it so I sent another quoting my yahoo email address, which doesn't have spamguard turned on, but still no reply. So as the messages don't seem to be getting received, I don't know how I am meant to be able to get the details I require. Any further assistance would be much appreciated.

    Deanna

    Deanna,
Perhaps try running a Cleanup in Rescue mode first. Also, what are you using to transfer those music? MediaSource or WMP0? Have you also try different software to transfer and see if you face the same thing.

  • ZEN Sleek Not Recogni

I've recieved a ZEN Sleek a litle less than a year ago and it was working perfectly until about a month ago, when my computer suddenly stopped recognizing the player. I've followed the directions in the FAQ section and I've only been able to have the ZEN player show up in the device manager, but it is still not recognized by Windows Media Player or the ZEN Media Explorer. I know there's no problem with the cord, since the player is can connect to other computers and can still be used as an external dri've on my computer. I'm stumped as to what I should do. Any suggestions?

Maybe this can help you! It solved my problem on my Jukebox Zen USB 2.0.
I read this in an old thread, the tip came from SSR:
Try running a disk cleanup on the player. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.

  • Zen Sleek Photo Freezes/Locks Up after about 5 minutes usage (need to drain battery to recov

    Hi,
My 20G Zen Sleek Photo has just recently transformed itself into a useless brick.
No matter what I try and do, it always ends up freezing after about 5 minutes usage. When you force a reset it does unlock but when it comes back on it sticks on the Creative "copyright" start up screen.
I've reformatted and re-installed the firmware several times but with the same result.
    font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
The only time it totally unlocks is when you either:
() let the battery fully drain and then recharge it or
    (2) you disconnect the battery lead and then press the On/Off switch for several minutes.
I've looked everywhere for a solution/reason but nothing. You find plenty of people with the same problem but no answers. Surely someone knows how to fix the problem
Is it a faulty battery (unlikely because mine charges up fine and holds it charge well)
Is it the hard dri've (very unlikely since the player can start up correctly [given the above recovery procedure] and play tracks within the 5-0 minutes you have available)
Is it the firmware (I doubt it, I can't see what the firmware's got to do with a delayed lock up, having worked fine up to that point)
Is it the motherboard (maybe....., to my mind it points to a component failure that allows an electric charge to build up and not dissipate, the only way to discharge it is to short the battery pins [with, I hasten to add, the battery removed!])
    font face="comic sans ms,sans-serif">
Has anyone within the Creative community successfully solved this problem Has anyone received a decent answer from Creative
I find it staggering that the guys at Creative have washed their hands of this problem. They, after all, are the most likely people to identify the problem - only they have a schematic of the motherboard that would allow them to investigate and locate the problem.
For the record the firmware I'm using is v .0.0.
Any guidance would be much appreciated,
    Victor

Is there really no one with an answer to this problem or have I overlooked a previous post that explained the fault.

  • My Zen Sleek Only works with USB 1.1 not 2

    For Reference ( http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=953 )
So I figured out that when my Zen Sleek is connected to any USB port on my computer, (it's USB 2.0) it doesn't work.
It works in that I can browse the files, etc..etc.. but when i try to copy a song or some songs, it will crash after the first song is transfered.
So I have a USB . Hub, and I plug the Zen Sleek to it and well even though it's slow, it actually works. All songs transfer fine.
So I buy a new Belkin USB 2.0 Hub, same problem happens.
I have an EPOX 8K5A+2 motherboard, built in 4 ports of USB 2.0, gig PC2700 Ram, AthlonXP 2800+ etc.. Latest VIA Detonator drivers... Deleted all the USB ports and what not in Device Manager, rebooted, etc.. tried everything.. Any Ideas people?

Confirm you've installed the Media Player 0 updates KB902344 (http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...4-x86-INTL.exe) and KB8922(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...08-FD6E7827CD8) on your XP system. I experienced the same transfer issues you report until after KB902344 installation.

  • Ipod cable/accessories for Zen sleek

I don't know why Creative decide to use a new connection for Zen Sleek instead of the standard mini 5 pin USB2 connection.
While looking for a new cable (and a compact car charger) for my new Zen Sleek, I noticed that the new Philips HD MP3 player and all Ipod seem to have the same kind connection.
Have anyone attempted to use Ipod cable on Zen Sleek? It seems that most after market accessories are made for Ipod so it would be very very nice if Zen Sleek uses the same connection. Perhaps I am day dreaming.

OK, don't get caught by this - there's a company that specializes in travel & replacement cables for cell phones, PDAs and MP3 players. Their name is Gomadic, and they have a very slick system - there's a standard USB male on one end and a receptacle like a mini-headphone receptacle on the other. You can get a very wide variety of end-connectors that plug into that receptacle and mate with just about anything you can think of. They claimed to have the connector for the Sleek, and I ordered it. However, when I got it, the end connector was a standard mini-USB male. I called them and they said "oops!" They just found out that Creative put this oddball connector on the Sleek while all the rest of Creative's players use the mini-USB. I can still use the thing for my camera and some other stuff though. They told me to keep it and gave me full credit on my credit card because of the error. So, I guess if you want a free travel connector for any of your kit that uses a mini-USB, order the cable for the Sleek from them before they correct their website!

  • Can't Create or Organise Folders on Windows XP Home with a Zen Sleek (2

Any idea why my home computer, which has Windows XP home version, won't give me the option of creating new folders or dragging/dropping files in and out of folders when I open the Zen Sleek dri've on 'My Computer'? And yet on my daytime computer (with XP Pro) it's as easy as anything to open new folders, drag and drop, etc. I, perhaps foolishly, installed all the extra software at home that came with my Creative Zen Sleek thinking this would surely solve the problem, thinking surely somewhere in all that stuff I would find a programme allowing me to open folders and re-organise my files....but no. The screens just remain sort of 'frozen', not allowing such basic functions. Please -- any clues as to the way forward here? Many thanks to the community for all the help on these boards!

Me again -- just looked at all my files in my Zen Sleek - none of the folders are there. Am I totally off base? Is the Zen system just something other entirely than folder based? Where does a newbie get up to speed? Many thanks.

  • Best way to hook up Zen Sleek to Car Ster

    Dear fellow Zen owners,
I have a Zen sleek and love it. I want to integrate this into my car as much as possible. I have a Alpine CDA9827 Reciever with an aux in. I just ordered a PIE LD- Amp that amplifies the aux input to make the zen sound better.
What I am mostly looking for is a vent mount that will fit this player. Another thing I am looking for is a DC power adapter for the sleek in my car so the backlight will always be on showing what is playing.
I found this dc adapter on the creative site.
    http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=3&subcategory=&product=2204
I dont understand how that will plug into the sleek unless the picture is wrong.
Please give me feedback on a good mount for this and a dc adapter.
    Thanks,
    Mike

well, that adapter plugs into the headphone jack, I assume. They need to start releasing some FM transmitters that hook up to the Sleek's dock connector, which would charge it and have music playback. Like the iPods have.
Or, can that connector at the bottom even be used for audio output, or is it just for USB transfer/charging? Can anyone confirm this?
Edit: *most* iPod mounts should fit the sleek, may it be a bit looser or tighter. Both players' dimensions are near the same. I haven't seen or heard of any specifically made for the Sleek. Creative needs to get on the ball as far as accessories go..Message Edited by shotgunxmessage on 09-5-2005 06:6 AM

  • My new Sleek + Real Rhapsody. A revi

I've seen acouple questions from people about the Sleek, so I figured I'd post a review of mine. Sorry if it is too long-winded.
I?ve owned a Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen NX for about 2-/2 years.<SPAN> Overall I was happy with it, but I wanted to take advantage of Rhapsoy?s ?to-go? subscription service, so I needed a new player.<SPAN> After much research, I settled on a Sleek.<SPAN> It is not on the list of Rhapsody?s approved devices, but a member of this forum (TheBobke) let me know that it worked.<SPAN> Best part was that the Sleek was on sale at BB for $87.<SPAN> I had to get it!
My first impression out of the box was ?wow?.<SPAN> It is tiny compared to my Jukebox NX.<SPAN> Smaller than an ipod, with curved edges, it fits my hand very nicely.<SPAN> The vertical touch pad is not hard to learn, especially if you set the sensitivity to LOW.<SPAN> That being said, I think a tactile button for up-down navigation would have worked better.<SPAN> No need to copy ipod?s design.<SPAN> I don?t use the FM tuner a lot, but it seems to work fine for me.<SPAN> I like having the option of a voice recorder.
Set-up was easy.<SPAN> The firmware on the Sleek was version 2.0.03, so no update needed.<SPAN> I have used MediaSource (MS) for years, and despite its bad rap, I think it works fine.<SPAN> I used MS to transfer all my tracks from my NX to my PC, and then on to my Sleek.<SPAN> No problems.<SPAN> I don?t like the specialized USB connector.<SPAN> I have one connector for my camera, BlackBerry, and NX.<SPAN> I really don?t want to carry another with me.<SPAN> Also, that velvety carrying bag included with the unit is a joke.<SPAN> I?m looking for a mini bottle of Crown Royal to put in it!
My other small criticisms have to do with the software. When viewing the Sleek through Mediasource (MS), all the music is grouped into folders by the album name.<SPAN> I?ve seen this mentioned on these boards, and I think this is more of a ?PlaysForSure? problem than a Creative problem.<SPAN> Still, I?d love to sort music by artist, track number, file size, etc. like I could before with MS and my Zen Extra. Interestingly, when I view the Sleek with Rhapsody?s program, I can sort by track, album or artist.<SPAN> Not sure why Rhapsody can do this and MS cannot.
The other problem I?ve encountered with MS is with tracks I?ve transferred from Rhapsody.<SPAN> Instead of showing up in ?Album? folders, it shows up in ?Artist? folders, with a sub-folder for the album.<SPAN> I?m not sure what causes this inconsistency, but it makes creating playlists a bit more difficult.<SPAN> Also, if I delete a Rhapsody to-go artist from the Sleek, the information for that artist still shows up in MS (even after re-syncing with Rhapsody).<SPAN> I will say that these are minor quibbles for me, and that the Sleek works nearly perfectly with Rhapsody.
One note:<SPAN> I have had the Sleek freeze up on me several times.<SPAN> Mostly when I remove it from the USB connection before I shut down MS or Rhapsody.<SPAN> In these cases, I need to hit the re-start button and wait for the library to rebuild.<SPAN> Now I make sure to close the program and then disconnect the player.<SPAN> Even then, the Sleek will freeze up now and then.<SPAN> I will watch out for this problem to see if it gets worse.
As for dust under the screen, I saw my first spec yesterday (!).<SPAN> I used a compressed air can and blew it out, but it concerns me that this is a problem.<SPAN> Seems like Creative should have seen this problem coming.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.<SPAN> For $87, I think I got a steal.<SPAN> I listen to a dozen or more new discs each month, and I needed a compatible ?to-go? device.<SPAN> The Sleek fits the bill (almost) perfectly.

    Nice review
and yes you should always close off the program which you were using with the player otherwise it may freeze up or cause more problems for you when the player is disconnected.
