Sleep Button Issue

This is not a question but an issue which I found with my wife's iPhone 3G which I was able to resolve.
Her sleep button would not put the phone to sleep and if I pushed it, it would take photos even if I was not in camera mode. So, after looking through the discussions, I found out that I could do a soft reset by holding the sleep button and home buttons together for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears. Its working fine and my apps are still saved. Thanks for the tip even if it wasn't specifically what I was looking for, it still worked for me!

That is Funny to say Neurologic or arthrithic disorder. The button has gotten to the point that it now does not respond at all. so i cant shut it off, but luckly the Home Button activates the phone just like the Sleep / Wake button.
I am taking it to my local Apple Store today to see what they can do. I just hope they do not give me a Refurbished Phone. Since this one was only 1 week and 3 days old, I should get a New one.
Well thanks, as they say common sense isnt so common anymore. I should have just went to the store and not waist your time.

Anyone had issues with on/off sleep button not working anymore?

If there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, use virtual Lock Button, tap Settings App > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap new white screen button > Device > Lock Screen. This can even turn OFF iPhone. To turn ON, connect iPhone to power, charger or USB of computer.

  • Mail won't open in Mavericks, dock has disappeared and power button is now sleep button!

Having installed OS X Mavericks on my Macbook Air Mail just won't load, period. I have never had a problem with this before now, the entire laptop will freeze and heat up to the point that the fan is working at mach 10. Opening terminal and entering the command 'defaults delete com.apple.mail' has not worked. In addition to this problem the dock has dissappeared so there isn't quick access to applications without having to go through Launch Pad or Applications folder in Finder, (Dock is hidden but is not present when scrolling over), and Apple have turned the power button into a sleep button?! Having these issues has meant I have been restarting the computer a lot and scrolling up to the Apple Menu to hit restart is frankly annoying! If I wanted my computer to sleep I would close it down or use Hot Corners.
    Dissappointment levels 10+.

I have since sorted this issue by doing a clean install and copying files across. The way I worked it out was by creating a guest account and logging into my iCloud account from that. If Mail loads in your guest account then the problem probably lies within your 'V2' Folder (Library > Mail > V2), after relocating V2 to my desktop and reloading Mail it loaded fine, however I lost all my folders and mail within... Hope this helps! It's not a fix but you will have access to Mail again!

Sleep/Wake button will not lock or unlock iPhone
To lock the phone, press the Sleep/Wake button. Note: By default, if you don't touch the screen for a minute, iPhone locks automatically.
To unlock iPhone, press the Home button or the Sleep/Wake button, then slide the slider.
If either of the above steps don't work, try turning iPhone off and then on again.
If the iPhone will not power off, reset it.
Try to lock or unlock the phone.

  • Sleep button problem

My iPad has an intermittent problem - occasionally the sleep button won't work at all; not to put the iPad to sleep nor to turn the iPad off. This problem appears to only occur after I've used the iPad for a long period, more than 10 or 15 minutes continuously, otherwise it works normally.
I've already done a full restore and it made no difference.
Anyone else had this problem? Anyone had this problem fixed?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Probably a good idea to take in for service just in case. Sounds like a hardware issue.

  • Solved my scratchy speaker problem. Do a hard reset. Home, sleep button. Hold till screen goes blank.

Had a scratchy speaker problem and strange sounds when ipad shutdown. Hold the home button and sleep button till screen goes blank. Turn on after a minute or two. Fixed it on ipad 4. Good luck.

Apple replaced with new phone under warranty, had to haggle a little to get that done.  Set up new one as a new phone, not from a backup, so as to not transfer any possible software issues to the new one, still re-setting up everything...      all was good for the first week or so, now this one does the same thing, plus a new issue.    While on calls the screen will go black, and the absolute only way to get control of the phone again is to hold both buttons down until the apple logo appears and phone restarts. Additionally, sometimes it will now become unanswerable when receiving a phone call, has only happened on vibrate, but it will go into a continuous vibrating mode and no way to answer the call or stop it, other than the two button restart.  Does it on normal calling, and on 4g lte calling setting (verizon).

  • HT201401 iPhone Lock/Sleep button was all of a sudden hard to push, never dropped and in great condition

I woke up one morning and my new iphone's lock/sleep button was really hard to push. It didnt click it only felt like it was stuck, except I could turn it on and off using pressure. Just wondering if theres any way my warranty would cover this or any way to fix this. Anything helps really, thanks.

I'm having the same issue. I have turned off Voice and Data in the Enable LTE setting and have only kept it on Data Only, because where I work, my phone constantly switches between 3G and 4G LTE. I don't think the signal is consistant enough where I work for VoLTE yet.  have dropped at least 5 calls in the last 2 days. My iPhone 5 NEVER dropped a call. Also my signal doesn't seem as strong as my iPhone 5. It was rainy out yesterday and the iPhone 6 stayed on 3G the entire day. The only way to get it on 4G is to switch Enable LTE off and back on again. Not to mention my display is kind've buggy. I really hope the next update addresses these issues. Hard to state best iPhone ever, and not have it work as well as the last gen.

  • HT201401 my sleep button doesn't work sometimes

can someone tell me how to rectify that problem

Backup and restore your device. If still having problem, then its a hardware issue.

  • IPod Touch Power Button Issue?

I have an 8GB 1st Generation iPod Touch (The one without the camera, power button on the left side instead of the right, yada yada yada). I've had it since Christmas, and it's run perfectly well, until yesterday. I began to notice that the power button (the small button at the top) was sticky. Not stuck, but simply sticky. Instead of having to tap it and add a slight pressure to get it to turn on, turn off, lock, ect, I now have to push down so hard that it leaves imprints on my fingers, not to mention that it doesn't always respond, as if it's jammed, and if I'm not very persistent it will lock, but not turn off. I have to try three or four times to turn it off using the power button, though occasionally the screen will flicker like I'm hitting the button multiple times. It's not like the button is stuck - I can still use it, but it's sticky. I was wondering if there is any solution that doesn't require sending my iPod in?
If you need any further explanation feel free to let me know, I'll be willing to tell you. Sending my iPod in isn't a problem really, though if there's a simple fix that I'm not aware of (seeing as this is my first iPod) I'd be much more willing to keep it here.

    Hi,
I have an 32G 2nd generation iPod touch with a problematic on/off button, and I'm not sure this is a physical problem at all.
My touch worked perfectly well until the version 3.0 update, and then I started having problems with the on/off "wake/sleep" button.
I often have to take 3 or 4 attempts to turn the screen off, and then when it does turn off it comes back on again with the "red bar" to switch it off. This is only supposed to happen when you purposely hold down the on/off button, but it does it when it feels like it now!
Like I said, it worked perfectly well on the version 2.0 software, but you couldn't possibly get into DFU mode to return it to version 2 because holding onto the button no longer seems to get the "red" bar to come up, so I've no idea where I am with it! It drives me nuts, but I'm almost positive it's an issue with the software.
Yes, I've tried a restore on several occasions, and turning it off and on so many times I can't count, but the problem never goes away!
I've asked Apple several times to deal with the issue, but they've had at least 6 attempts now, and nothing has been done about it. My Touch will now be stuck on 4.1 forever as I can't get iTunes 10, because I have an old mac that's on 10.4.11.
I'll have to live with it as it is, as I can't afford to upgrade, and I don't want to anyway because it works perfectly well, EXCEPT for this one annoying issue.

  • Nano 6th sinks (not working) Sleep Button.

on my iPod nano 6th not working Sleep Button. problem occurs a second time.
problem has been, decided to change the service center to the next. Now this is not possible, the warranty is over. how can I fix this problem?

    Hello J-Dub 181,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried resetting the iPod? If not, press and hold the Center and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
If, you are still have issues after resetting the iPod, it may be best to restore the iPod via iTunes and start from scratch. Usually a restore can resolve these types of issues.

I phone 4 , gets calls and than does not get calls. I have to re-boot to get the phone to work. I have to keep checking to see if i am getting a signal. My sleep button is broke and I am useing the accessibility mode . Also I am using Metro P.C. as my carrier. All my research leads to a software problem. How do we fix something like that. ?  I could not find this problem on line so this is my last resort. I have not talked to apple either.

  • IPhone Sleep Button Might Be Broken

I recently noticed my iPhone 3G sleep button might have an issue. It works fine, so I am not too concerned but the button is uneven. The left side of the button is very low. Flush even with the iPhone itself. This isn't something most people would notice but how is your sleep button, even or uneven? is the left or right side lower than the other?
Should I be concerned with this button? Should I take it to a Genius?

I actually have an issue with the sleep button and the software... It seems like the sensor that takes the command from pushing the button for the phone to enter standby, is glitching. I have restored my phone 10 times in the last three days, thinking it was a software glitch.
What happens is, the phone can be sitting still, on a desk, flashing the background back & forth, like I am pushing the button. If I somehow get to the home screen, it will make the "click" noise and put itself into standby. Sometimes, it will miraculously turn itself off, then back on.
I treat my phone like a baby, it's never been dropped, scratched, shaken, and is protected in a case, just to be safe.
I am putting one last effort into it, by doing a long format (doing the reset that takes an hour or so to totally wipe it back to factory-like settings), and seeing if that somehow fixes it. I can't narrow it down if it's hardware based, or software based, as the button doesn't sit lower than it used to, and doesn't "feel" any different. I have a box coming from Apple, just in case.
I've been without it for two days, and will most likely get a crappy refurb (oh wait, "service" model, as Apple calls them) like with my 1st gen. We'll see!
