Sleep does not work..

I have this wonderfull iMac G5 20" flat panel that works wonderfully; - only the sleep settings doesn't seem to work. I have tried every thinkable way, but to no use. If manually invoked everything is fine, - it's the timings that does not workl.
By the way; - apparantly there is no settings file in the preference folder?
Any suggestions out there?

Hi John,
You say that you have an iMac G5. The section you have posted to is for the Flat Panel iMac G4's. It might be an idea to post this in the iMac G5 section.
Cheers!

  • Network access when sleeping does not work.

My "Wake for network access" is not working.
I need to upload large files to clients.
I have my MBP plugged in and the screen is flip up not down. However when it goes to sleep when unattended, it loses network access.

    My settings:

  • Sleep does not work when MB is shut

My MB used to go to sleep when I shut it, but now it stays on consuming the battery. The screen goes off, but everything in the background is still working (ie. network runs, downloads still occur, programs continue to run without sleeping, sound/screen turns off but music file still runs). If I shut it and return two hours later, the battery is at 0%. Can I fix this?

    Hi Clawdad37
I (and many others) are having the same problem, see this thread amongst others:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5899374#5899374
Out of interest do you have problems with Bluetooth? I believe the two are inextricably linked.
You will find numerous attempts to solve this problem (incl, resetting PRAM, resetting SMC, trashing cache folders and changing safe-sleep settings). I have tried all of these methods (in pretty much every combination!) and although some seem to solve it, it is merely a temporary solution and could well be down to coincidence. Give them a go though and see if they work for you.
I thought update 10.4.11 had resolved the issue, but again this turned out to be a coincidence.
I took my MacBook to my local Apple store a few months back for the bluetooth problem (didn't have the sleep issue at the time or I didn't notice it). they found a fault with the Bluetooth module and replace it. Within 48hrs the Bluetooth was playing up again.
Now that I have exhausted all options, and once my exams are over this week, I will be taking the MacBook back to the store (I have 3yr Applecare). I will pushing hard that this is a major flaw and constitutes that the product is not fully fit for purpose. Not sure if you're in the UK, but we have pretty good consumer protection laws here - not that I want it to go down that route, I really like my MacBook and Apple as a company. I just want this problem sorted and given Apple's reputation for customer service I am sure it is only a matter of time.
If you don't have the 3yr Appplecare, and you are in your 1st year of warranty, I suggest you get it to Apple asap. Also, consider getting the Applecare, particularly for a notebook.
Hope you problem gets resolved, and if it does be sure to post to let others know.
    Cheers!

  • Solution approach to MANY issues where automatic sleep  does not work

    Hi
I had many issues for a long time where my machine would not go to sleep automatically. This annoyed me quite a bit.
I have read long ago that this might happen if an application writes standard output to the console. Those write "events" you do not notice as user as long as you never open the "Console" application and check...
    my console was empty...
BUT I checked some other logs and I found that basically and frequent log written prevents the machine from automatically going to sleep.
In my case it was related to have "Firewall logging" enabled. The firewall logged every 3-4 minutes that it was listening..
I turned off "Firewall logging" and finally my machine goes to sleep again automatically after the specified time of no activity
    Michael

    Hello Michael:
That is interesting, and thanks for posting. However, I tested the premise on my own systems and the firewall logging did not prevent the Macs from sleeping on schedule. I do admit that I usually put them to sleep when I am finished with whatever I am doing.
I do have a strange anomaly that causes my iMacs to wake on random occasions, but that is not relevant to your issue.

  • Updated Macbook to 10.5.8 and now sleep does not work?

I have updated my Macbook to 10.5.8 from 10.5.4 and now when I choose "sleep" it shuts down every time and ignores sleep mode
Anyone have an idea why it is doing this. Quite annoying..

now I notice my Mac is showing me the restart choices asking me if I want to restart or make it sleep every 5 minutes or so? First it shows as like on top of the screen with shadowed corners (like expose) and then centers towards the middle of the screen.
Is this a Mac virus or someone installed something on my Mac or?

I have had the same problem but on another forum it was suggested that disabling internet sharing would solve this. This fix seems to work on my machine - why it works I do not understand

  • [SOLVED} Suspend to ram does not work (with sleep, s2ram, pm-utils)

    Hi.
I would like to ask for one thing: i can't suspend to ram or resume from suspend to ram.
I treid to check over www in order to find some help, some solutions, and how to fix that. Unfortunately, i found these:
    https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread. … 13-2/page2
    https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=913105
    https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread. … S-13-1-x64
Bug 91921 - WD 2TB Caviar black causes hard lock on resume S2RAM
    https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91921
In fact, when i was researching of this problem i wanted to check if my graphic card and memory are failing so a did few changes (removed memory stick and so one) but in doing this i removed almost all of my hard disk drives because i didn't want to hurt them with many reboots or resets.
What did i find? It is strange, kernel version is not important because i checked most of them.
I removed 2x2TB Seagate F14 series along with 4x3TB WD Green. Then i checked s2ram, it went to suspend, and resumes correctly. Everything works. I put it to sleep with s2ram -f -a 1. Works
I attached my 4x3TB WD Green drives. I put computer to sleep with s2ram...it causes hard lock, black screen, i could do only poweroff by powerbutton. s2ram -f -a 1 causes freez. Sometimes, but not constantly, s2ram -f -a 3 -p is being able to suspend...(mostly it does a freez, hard lock computer) but sometimes it is able to put it to a sleep, but resume just freezes everyting - no blinking cursor, no blinking num lock led and so on.
I know that you would suggest me to check logs - this is the main problem. Logs for pm-suspend works when i suspend or resume without WD drives attached. When i have them connected, i'm not able to check pm-logs because computer hangs, freezes and logs are not being stored/writed to pm-suspend.log and pm-powersave.log.
Could somebody help? Point me to a solution? I can't check logs because there are not any when freezing occurs. I checked openSuse thread and many others and for other systems there were some kernel fixex, patches.
They wrote that WD blacks are at fault because they don't have APM. Well, in fact my WD Green have APM with very aggresive factory settings: they park heads over 8 seconds not being used. I disabled it in firmware but disabling it is not the point and not the problem. People have the same problem even with APM and parking heads on other WD drives, i found it that some have it with WD Red's drives and even with very old 320GB WD Blue series - what is more funny, i have 640GB AAKS blue from WD and with this drive i can suspend or resume - APM on this drive is also unavilable, like in Green series because i changed it with wdidle with prebootable cd. I can't  supend or resume with 3TB WD Greens.
BTW - suspend to disk, with pm-utils and uswsusp works ok, in 100% every time. (i had to add "shutdown method = shutdown" to /etc/suspend.conf from uswsusp package).
On Windows machine it works. Can suspend, can resume, can hibernate.

Hm, sometimes i found myself astonished because some things just does not work at all on one machine, while the other one has no problem at all. I was trying to find why suspend to ram won't work at all...and while i was searching i found one topic that was leading to upower dbus. Similar problem with upower i found, by coincidence, on Manjaro forum.
    dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest="org.freedesktop.UPower" /org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.Suspend
this command above returns all the time:
Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method "Suspend" with signature "" on interface "org.freedesktop.UPower" doesn't exist
    I tried this:
    sudo systemctl enable acpid.service
    sudo systemctl --system daemon-reload
    sudo systemctl restart systemd-logind
As soon as i enabled and started acpid.service...my supend to ram, from kde, works like a charm, without graphic problem, or freezing.
There is few question: why on my desktop suspend doesen't work out of the box, when even archwiki says it should? Why on my netbook machine (Acer AOD270) that has the same package installed it works out of the box? Why on my desktop machine acpid.service was not enabled, was not started and was not running while on the notebook it does?
Anyway...i fixed it by a big coincidence because on Fedora forum somebody has problem with suspend to ram with nvidia GTX750 and this card was new like my card (GTX660). He posted the same problem with upower that i posted in quotes and because of this i found another thing on Manjaro forum and that was it!
BTW - this problem, i now think, is not related to my WD drives because it works with them. I think that there was another one ugly thing that broke my suspend to ram ability - bios of my motherboard (so called uefi bios with support for old one) has no option for S1-S5 stated (like the previous motherboards had) and only have ASPM...and ASPM is in my opinion broken but i will try to veryfi it one again later.

If there's a hardware defect and your phone is under warranty, bring it to Apple for replacement.

  • Internet connection does not work when Macbook wakes up from sleep

I recently installed MAC OSX LION. After that whenever the macbook pro wakes up from sleep, the internet connection does not work. I get a message 'DNS lookup failed'. I have to Turn off the WIFI and turn it back on every time. Has anyone come across this?

Same problem here. But I am afraid it has nothing to do with Safari because I don't even have Safari open. When it wakes from sleep, it has no internet connection and i cannot get me mail unless I shut wifi off and then back on. This happened back at the start of Snow Leopard too and it was something Apple eventually fixed.

  • My wake-up/sleep button does not work, but the serial is out from Apple list to repair. What i do now?

The wake-up/ sleep iPhone 5 botton does not work, but the serial number is out of list to recall from Apple. The problem is so similar the described in the article in the site. I want to repair in the program, like other iPhones, how it is possible?
    Thanks.

Then there isn't anything you can do about it then. Your only choice is to pay to have the device fixed or replaced. Apple is in charge of that, and as I said in the other thread, this is not Apple you are talking to, we are users like you and cannot do anything about that.

  • Sleep Mode in Windows 10 Does not work

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 Sleep mode does not work properly when closing the lid or pressing the shutdown button when you set these to sleep.  I have updated the BIOS, Intel Chip Set Drivers, and Video Driver to the latest.  All HP and Windows UPdates installed. Problem is not everthing goes to sleep, typically my ethernet connection, audio and fan stay on.  Must use the Power Button and Hold to recover.  Each time I close the lid and open it I have a black screen.  I can tell when it is not going to sleep by noticing the Ethernet jack is still lit and the fan making noise after closing the lid or pressing the power button. Here's the kicker, make a change to any of the power settings, save and come back into them and reset to sleep and it will work with the lid ONE TIME ONLY.   There after its back to never working, never fully sleeping and having to reboot. Need Help.

I just discovered that HP has posted a new support page for people who are having issues with the computers after converting to Win 10. I was particularly interested in the section on issues with Sleep/Hibernation and found this whole page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03383935 Looks like apart from the driver issue, it could be that the settings in the Device Manager for your KEYBOARD are not set correctly!!! - yeah, that's what I said.  Anyway, the full resource is located here and may be of some help. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04773236/ PS: I also checked to see if there were new drivers for my notebooks and see that it has now been two days since they were last updated. Perhaps there is hope!

  • HT201401 How can i reset my iphone if the Sleep/Wake button does not work?

My camera shuts off every time that I try to take a picture. I would like to reset my IPhone in order to try and solve the problem. My Sleep/Wake button does not work.
How can I reset my IPhone without the Sleep/Wake Button working?
    Thanks for the help.

When pressing the sheep/wake button, the iPhone's screen is not turned off if on and does not turn on if off, and pressing and holding the sleep/wake or on/off button does not bring up slide to power off?
And you can't do a reset by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release?
If so and there is no change after restoring the iPhone with iTunes, make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby since more than likely there is a hardware problem.

  • Alum BT keyboard does not work after wake up - but BT trackpad does!

    Here is my set up:
MBAir 2011 model (13", i7 4GB, Lion.. all up to date)
Desktop set up (same at work and home)
    - Thunderbolt display
    - Aluminum Bluetooth Keyboard
    - Aluminum Bluetooth Trackpad
    What I do:
    - Plug in the sleeping mbair into my display via thunderbolt and power cable
    - Wake up using external bluetooth trackpad
    - computer wakes up and external trackpad is functional (it always works)
    - 7/10 times the external keyboard will not connect to enter password to get into system
         - I have tried power button banging on it for a long time and does not work
         - open mbair and type password in and remove keyboard and repair and after several tried it will work
         - then I can close mbair and use external keyboard
         - painful to do this most days at home and work
    What have I tried
    - PRAM, SMC reset
    - remove all BT entries - trash blutooth properties files and freshly add them back
    - I have tried waking using keyboard as well and it does not work
Only think I have wanted to try and have not found out is, if keyboard can reset to factory.
Yes I also have the occasionaly wifi not connecting from sleep issue

    Hello
Have you noticed this problem on factory settings or only on your Windows 7 installation? Maybe its just a driver or software issue
Make also sure that latest BIOS version is installed. Look on the Toshiba website for an update:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
Before you start the update, make sure that all programs are closed and you are logged in as Administrator.
