Sleep light for Retina *idea Glowing Apple logo?

So my first hesistation for writing this is that I think my idea had a flaw. Nontheless, I continue. Is it at all possible for the Apple Logo on the back of the monitor to glow in the same "breathing" pattern as was the old sleep light? I imagine for Power Consumption it might be a negative, but for nostalgic purposes I'm interested. I also wonder if that light is controlled by the backlight on the screen. Anywho, before I go to bed, I thought I share that thought.

Fimeg,
It would be impossible for just the Apple logo to light up without also lighting the whole display.  The logo, even back in the old Power PC days, is basically a partially translucent cutout in the lid.  The light you see is from the screen backlighting system.  I got my MBP Retina 15" in November and also really missed the flashing light.  The longer you have it, the less you will miss it.  Supposedly this is supposed to be able to sleep on a single charge for approximately 30 days.

  • IPhone top sleep/wake button is not working & Apple Logo screen at startup

I have the original iphone. I have two problems, both just happened tonight at the same time. For seemingly no reason just my iphone external top sleep/wake button is not working. I tried powering the phone off and back on. I tried resetting my iphone, and restoring it. I made sure my Iphone software is up to date. None of these remedies have fixed the button. The button doesn't look broken, it pushes in and out, it just doesn't work anymore.
Second problem is, after I power my iphone off and then back on, the Apple logo screen will continue to flash on and off indefinitely. The only way to get my home screen to appear is to connect my iphone to my computer. Then it wants to sync. After syncing it then asks if I want to "power off" or "cancel". Huh, why does is it doing that? To turn my iphone off I am pressing my Home button down until it shuts off, since I can't power off with the top black button. Is that the reason my phone is having the second problem, because I am powering off with the Home button? Could it be my second problem is not a problem?
My iphone 1 year warranty is over. I can't call Apple Care, there is no apple store near me. I need a solution I can do at home myself. Please help. Even if you think the answer is obvious please suggest it to me. Before tonight nothing was wrong with my iPhone. It all started after I let my 6 and 7 year old nephews play with Google Maps on my phone for like 10 minutes - supervised. I consider myself to be a pretty Apple tech savvy guy, yet I can't figure out if they broke my iphone somehow, nor can I fix these two problems. Please help!

    Jason,
I'm afraid I have good and bad news. Apple sent me a new original iphone. So that takes care of me but does not take care of the issue for so many people like you. I do not know if you can purchase the Apple Care plan at this time. Look into that. It really is worth it. Apple products require Apple technicians in the rare case the breakdown. Apple did not offer me an explanation of how they'll fix my phone or even saying why they sent me a new one. I synced it with Itunes and all my personalizations and apps are loaded back on it. It's like my old phone only shinyer and probably going to last me longer than the old one.
I found out Apple Care covers the Iphone for 2 years past it's purchase date. So I would think that you could buy Apple Care even if you had it for like a year. Then it would at least cover you until the 2 year mark, which after that we're on our own(?). Please let me/us know if you were able to buy Apple Care protection and if they fixed your problem. I am impressed they got me a new phone so fast. I still love Apple.

  • Can I Turn OFF the Glowing Apple Logo?

I like the logo, don't get me wrong. It's that I'm a college student and I know I would be kind of distracted by a glowing apple. What do you guys think? Any solutions?

    Abi,
You can't turn off the glowing apple without turning off the backlight on the LCD display. If you do this, then you can't see the LCD display.
Any good instructor will only be distracted by a glowing apple for about 2.54 seconds. They'll get used to it pretty quick, especially if they are already used to other students taking notes with a laptop.
Any fellow student who is distracted by your glowing apple is looking in the wrong direction. Don't worry about them, they probably have ADD, and would be distracted by a flying insect.
Seriously, my experience is that people will comment on what a nice looking computer it is . . . but when it comes down to the time to be serious it's not all that distracting.

  • IPhone 3GS won't restore (error 1600 or "not eligible for this build") no apple logo, recognised in DFU mode.

My iPhone 3GS decided to turn itself off (on 30% battery) yesterday and hasn't turned on since. After some testing (hard resets, DFU mode), tiny umbrella recognises it in DFU mode, as does Redsn0w. neither devices can successfully kick the phone out of the restore loop.
The screen stays blank throughout, no apple logo, connect to itunes logo etc. however every now and then the charging sign will appear (empty battery with a little bit filled (red)). even if i unplug it from my iMac the charging symbol stays there.
once I get the phone in DFU mode iTunes recognises that there is a phone connected that needs to be restored, it doesn't matter if I click restore or option + restore the process will fail on Error 1600 or "this device is not eligible for this build".
My iPhone is not unlocked or jailbroken. Before the incident with the coffee I managed to synchronize and update its firmware as indicated by iTunes. The latest update for my iPhone was iOS 5 firmware.  My intent is not to unlock or jailbrake the device, just to make it work again.
Here are some things I've tried since:
    1. Exiting recovery mode via Tinyumbrella
    2. Entering DFU mode via Redsn0w
    3. Shift + Restore and using firmwares from 5.0 to 5.0.1 to upgrade my iPhone.
    4. Remove hosts to my Host file (in relation to the "device not eligible for this build" issue)
    5. Try redsn0w and use IPSW to see if it is recognized by iTunes (iTunes recognizes the iPhone but then at the very last minute shows error 1600.
    6. Save SHSH files and use Tinyumbrella to uploaded them to my iPhone.
I would really appreciate if someone can help me on this. I might be doing something wrong or maybe not even considering the right steps to solve this issue. I don't know if there are missing drivers that are preventing the device from communicating with iTunes properly. Of some tool that can be used to correct this problem. It may or may not be fixable but I think it is worth the try.
    Thanks very much.

please ignore the comment about coffee. Someone posted a very similar question apart from he spilt coffee on his phone, I didn't.

  • On the light blue login screen, the apple logo, a crossed out circle, and a ? appear and I can't login. how do I fix it?

The laptop turns on fine but the apple logo come up flashing the logo, a question mark, and a    crossed out circle. How do I fix this?

Startup your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk.
If that didn't help, try here  >  A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
The ? mark on boot can mean several things. One, your Mac can't find a system folder to boot from, hence booting while holding down the Option key, or the startup disk needs repairing.

  • Why did apple ditch the light up apple logo

the light up apple logo is on the apple stores, all apple laptops and has been in apple commercials dedicated to the stickers that hi light on the light up apple logo but now with the new macbook there is no light just a cold hard metal dark and unexciting.

My understanding is that Apple does not require payment when their products are used in shows. That would be the opposite of advertising. Normally, product placement works the other way around: the show is paid, not the advertiser. If the Apple logo is hidden in a show, it is usually because the producers do not wish to appear that they are endorsing any particular product. Unlike other products used on set, the Apple logo is so prominent that it is a challenge to genericize without covering it up.
Most of the reasoning in this thread doesn't make sense. It isn't because the light is too intrusive, and it isn't just the converted that like it. Those are sweeping generalizations.
It is much more likely that the non-glowing Apple logo on the new MacBook is just a regular Apple evolution of style. For example, the three colors in the MacBook are new to the Mac line, but they are identical to the iPhone/iPad line. Well guess what, the Apple logo has never glowed in the iPhone/iPad line. Therefore Apple may have simply decided to bring over the non-glowing Apple logo from the iOS devices to the Mac, just as they brought over the colors and brought over many of iOS user interface conventions to OS X.

  • Does the Apple Logo glow in dark?

I am getting a PowerBook G3 Pismo soon, and since its a new world mac, it should have the Apple logo glowing in the dark right? the Wallstreet did not, but I think the Pismo does, right?

But I still like my up-side-down glowing Apple logo.
I do, too. But even more, I like my Apple to be oriented the right way when I close down the display. Yeah, a lot of neat stuff, by way of design, ended with the Pismo, including the extra bay.
    Long live my Pismo
That's the way I feel most of the time, but I been hankering for a MBP, but my wife tells me I have a perfectly fine computer that I have kept upgraded. She's right, of course (as usual), but every now and then I feel like I need a little more zip, especially video RAM, in my computer. In any case, old faithful just keeps rolling along.

  • Flashing Apple logo - does not come on and cannot power it down

My husband has original iPhone from Dec '07. For some reason, while using it, his volume went low and he could not raise it. He tried powering it down to reset it but screen went black and then apple logo came on, then went black, then came on, flashing like that for several minutes before going black. He brought it home, i tried holding the sleep/wake button, but same result - flashing apple logos for few minutes, then black. Tried holding home button but also same result. Plugged into computer - it came on but the "Sync in Progress, do not disconnect" did not come on and phone did not register on desktop even though iTunes showed it. Anyways, did a complete restore with most recent software but again, we're still having the same problem. Phone works when plugged into computer, but not in the way it should and once you unplug it from the computer, sleep/wake button does nothing and cannot power it down. After restoring it, i again tried to power down holding sleep/wake button, but got flashing apple logos again. Any suggestions? Do we need to just take this in and have it looked at?

Have you tried booting it to recovery? If you haven't, try these steps:
    1) Close iTunes and unplug and power down your iPhone
    2) Press and hold the home button
    3) Keeping the home button held down, plug your iPhone into your computer
    5) Keep the button held down until a recovery screen with a pic of a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon shows.
    6) Open iTunes and perform a restore
If this doesn't solve your problem, you have to go to an Apple store and get it exchanged, as the above post said.

  • Iphone 3G shows Apple logo when starting and stops there.

Hi, I just got an Iphone 3G 16GB yesterday from a person who had it for 10 days and did not like it. Before giving it to me me he did a general reset using the optino in the settings menu. When he gave it to me the Iphone was still doing the reset and it took 2 hours and 40 minutes to end it. At the end of the reset the screen showed the Apple logo and does not go further. All of this was done with the Iphone plugged in a power outlet to avoid interrupting the operation.
I left it on for all the night just hoping it was a very long procedure but with no results (still the Apple logo and nothing else). This morning I tried to turn it off keeping the sleep/wake button pushed for some time but id did not even shut down. The only way I found to shut it down was to to push the Home button and the sleep/wake button together for a few seconds. When I tried to turn it on again pushing the sleep/wake button it showed the Apple logo again and nothing happened.
    COuld someone help me?
    Thanks in advance.

Just to report that the problem was solved with Apple Support. They asked me to start Itunes, connect the usb cable to the computer, push the home button while connecting the USB connector to the Iphone. This way Itunes recognized the Iphone in recovery mode and restored everything automatically.
Now the Iphone is working perfectly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Nano won't reset, Apple logo appears and disappears, Nano won't mount!

My battery died on my 1G Nano sometime last night or the night before. I went to try to wake it up today, and nothing happened ... would not wake up.
I connected the Nano to the Dock connector which was directly connected to my 24" iMac. The Nano tried to restart, but would not re-start completely, most likely because the battery was completely dead.
I tried re-setting by toggling on and off the Hold switch and then pressing the Menu and Select buttons, but that did not work. I also tried plugging the Nano into an external USB charger (for regular iPod) and resetting. I still can not get it to reset.
The Apple logo appears on the screen for a second, the screen lights up for a second, then the screen goes dark again and the Apple logo re-appears and the process starts all over again.
This has been going on for over 20 minutes. Apple logo will appear, screen lights up, screen goes dark, Apple logo re-appears, etc, etc, etc, etc. Do you see a pattern emerging here?
    Please help!
    Thanks

When my iphone cracked out, I plugged it in. If it is still discovered in itunes, on the left side bar you should see you device's name. If you click it, near the top it will show your device and have options for backup or just plain restore (which I might recommend here). And if this works awesome! If not, RIP iPhone

  • Yellow patch on apple logo

    Hi
    This is my first post.
I have bought my MacBook back in Nov 2006, and a couple of weeks later I noticed that the glowing apple logo on the lid was discoloured and became yellow. It is more visible in the dark. I have uploaded a picture so you can see what I mean:http://i13.tinypic.com/2mrb86a.jpg (fyi, it's a white macbook)
I searched in the forum but nobody encountered the same problem. My only worry is that it will cover the remaining surface of the logo, and it might affect the display quality. Any advice on the issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Karim

Sounds like Troy is right on point. All the Apple logo is is a cut out in the casing replaced with transparent plastic. It's simply the backlight from your display showing through. There really isn't anyway for the backlight to discolor that way and that looks like an odd way for the plastic to discolor. As you said, it seems to have gotten worse. This would likely happen if it was a piece of tape (or something else) that was gradually sliding down in the space between the back like and the plastic. I'm sure it's nothing major, but it could certainly turn into an eye-sore if it continues to creep down.

Can you reset the device by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained here: iOS: Unable to restore

  • My iphone 4 has frozen. I can not slide to unlock nor shut the phone down. It flashes the apple logo from time to time but will not respond to the touch screen.

My iphone 4 has frozen while I held the button down to try and access voice command. Now it will not allow me to slide and unlock. Won't respond to the shut down button on top nor any touch screen commands. The apple logo appears from time to time but mostly it shows my wallpaper and the time. Can you help me out ?

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
