Sleep Mode after 10.5.2 update

Hi all... my machine won't wake from sleep mode after the 10.5.2 update. I can hear the fan and drives spinning but nothing else happens... forced to cold boot. Also- the screen saver now comes on even though I have it set to "Never" in system prefs. Wierd.
I welcome any and all thoughts/advice.
Thanks.

But the problem of waking from sleep mode persists.
what third party hardware do you have attached to Mac/ usb hub can cause problem especially with devices attached during sleep. PCI internal cards. Disconnect all except Apple mouse/keyboard and go after one by one.
I recently dumped a Belkin 7 port usb hub which worked fine in 10.4.11 and up thru 10.5.1 but when 10.5.2 came around it did not wake any device attached. I since move to a Cyberpower usb hub.

  • Screen Black after waking from sleep mode (after 10.4.11 update)

This issue has happened before with an earlier update (10.3.8 Delta fixed the issue originally), and I suspect it is the same with this current update.
Has anyone else had this problem with the new update and has there been a patch released to fix the problem yet? Hopefully we can get an update soon.

This happens every so often to my 12" Aluminium PowerBook after sleeping (black screen, hard drive spinning away) and after trying every possible key combination and nothing helping, I'm usually left with the usual last resort, which is a hard restart. Of course that remedies the problem short term but unfortunately, only until the next time it happens. For me, it has been an issue since I bought it and is not affected by the OS.
I am wondering if it has anything to do with the clasp not working properly when the lid is closed. Sometimes I get the sleeping light, sometimes not - unless I play with the lid until it clicks shut. Then the light appears. Importantly, when the sleeping light appears, the machine always wakes properly with the lid opening. But I have noticed that when the light does not come on and I haven't bothered to shut it down properly, that is when the problem occurs. Which makes me wonder if rather than going into sleep mode it is actually going into hibernation mode due to non use? I haven't a clue but perhaps someone here knows far more about such things than myself?

  • Laptop doesn't wake after sleep mode after Windows 10 update

I usually lower the laptop lid when i want to put it into sleep mode; after the windows 10 update, this stopped working. I tried putting it into sleep mode from the start menue. This causes the screen to become black, but power to remain on ( I can see this from a steady light from the power button whereas sleep would have a flashing power button). The laptop's fan also increases in speed. When I try to wake the laptop, nothing happenes; I have tried to use ctrl+alt+delete, however this also does not work. I am ususally forced to resort to a manual shut down via holding the power button for a few second and restarting the laptop. I have tried updating the display adapters, restarted the laptop, and still no result. Does anyone know why this is happenning and how I can fix it?

I was having the Exact Same Issue. The reason I decided to go back to windows 8 was because since upgrading to Windows 10, when my computer goes into sleep mode, I cannot wake it up. I have to press and hold the power button to shut it done and restart. Even if I close my laptop, and reopen the lid, it wont start back up and I have to press and hold the power button and shut it down and restart.  After trying to restore my HP Envy Laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 8, it got stuck in a Repair PC Loop and I could not even access the desktop, I tried the restore option to an earlier date and that failed and all the repair options also failed. The last option I had was to do a full PC Refresh, and that one worked. It took about an hour but no data was lost, and only a few of my downloaded apps were removed. An html url was left on the desktop that showed a list of all the apps that were removed. So all I did was download those back and now im back up and running Windows 8.

  • IMac won't wake from sleep mode after latest update

Hello, I have a Late 2013 27-inch iMac that has started acting strange, lately. After installing update 10.10.3, my iMac almost will regularly not wake once it enters sleep mode, after being idle for a certain period of time.
Is anyone else having this problem, and/or have any solutions for this?
    Thank you in advance!

    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. Please read the whole article carefully and don't skip any of the steps, including the ones under the heading Additional troubleshooting. If you don't understand any of the steps, ask for guidance.
Also note that if you replaced the internal hard drive with an SSD, or if you're starting up from an external SSD, then that device may be causing the problem. Check the SSD manufacturer's website for a firmware update. The only solution may be to reinstall the original drive or avoid sleep altogether.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.5 or earlier, from the menu bar select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Accessibility
If the checkbox at the bottom marked
              Enable access for assistive devices
is checked, uncheck it and test.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ Privacy ▹ Accessibility
If any applications are listed on the right and have a checked box next to them, uncheck all the boxes and test. You may first have to click the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate as an administrator to unlock the settings.
    Step 3
In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked
Put hard disks to sleep when possible
    Step 4
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.
    Step 5
This and the next step must be taken as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ Diagnostic and Usage Messages
In the search box in the window's toolbar, enter "powerd" (without the quotes.)
You may see one or more lines like this:
    com.apple.message.signature: Platform Failure
If you do see that, and you did everything in the preceeding steps, then you're dealing with an internal hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
    Step 6
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down.
You may see one or more reports with a name that begins with "Sleep Wake Failure" followed by a date. Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • PRS-T1: Sleep mode after 1 min

    Hi,
the problem I'm experiencing with my PRS-T1 is that it automatically enters sleep mode after 1-2 minutes of inactivity (rather than after 10 minutes, as stated in the User Guide). It happens even when the battery is, or almost is, fully charged. It is pretty annoying at times as I'm often still reading that page. Is there any solution to this problem? Thanks!
P.S. I had the latest firmware already preinstalled when I bought my PRS-T1

Hello and welcome to the User Discussion Forum.
This is very unusual for the PRS-T1 Wifi reader to enter sleep mode after 1-2 minutes of inactivity. Please contact Sony support directly for service options.

  • IPhone 5S trapped in recovery mode after mistake made in update process.

My iPhone 5S is trapped in recovery mode after I option-clicked "update" and selected the iOS 7.1 beta build 11D5099e ipsw, when I needed to option click "restore" before doing so. I'm really getting desperate because I have no backups of my iPhone anywhere (not icloud or computer), and cannot boot out of reecovery mode. I can put the device into DFU mode, but it makes no difference. Attempting to update the iphone to ios 7.1 from recovery mode produces error #17. Attempting to update the iphone to 7.1 from DFU mode produces error #11. Both errors are not mentioned in apple's updating and restoring support page. Before I try just clicking "restore", is there anything else that I can do? Restoring the phone is NOT an option, as I have a ton of data on it.
Please don't just say "no", because that's not very helpful. If there's truly nothing I can do, and I mean NOTHING, because I am fairly tech savy and can perform pracically any solution you give me, then I will accept that and just restore the phone.
But if there is ANYTHING I can do, tell me...
    Please...
TL; DR: My iPhone 5S is trapped in recovery mode and I refuse to restore it unless it is my only option. Is there anything else I can do to fix it?

Actually, I just fixed it with tinyumbrella. I thought I had already tried it when I posted this, but I guess not.

  • Mini goes into sleep mode after login on

I put my mini into sleep mode after logging out. Then, when I log back in, after a few seconds, it goes into sleep mode again. I have to re-awaken it.
This is not the way the computer should work.
Is this a configuration issue, any ideas????
I use Apple's bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse combination.
    Thanks
    Mac-mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

It sounds obvious but are you sure your power adapter is ok and the battery is charged. The behaviour sounds a lot like low battery sleep.
Press the check button on your battery pack - do you get plenty of lights?

  • Having problems connecting to WiFi after Sleep Mode - Lion with most recent updates.

I'm new to Apple and have the new MBP - what a great machine!
So, I updated to Lion and have done all the updates for my OS. As of recent (after an update last week), I am having trouble connecting to the internet after I close my computer (Sleep) or Sleep mode due to inactivity. The only way to connect after said mode is to completely Restart the computer and then my problem is fixed. I've tried searching, but can't find anything. Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thank you

    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reset the System Management Controller.
    9. Reset the PRAM.
    10. Reinstall OS X.
Updating to 10.9.2 did the trick. So I thought. Does anyone have a solution?

  • Ipad is not connecting to wifi in sleep mode after iOS 6 update

I used to be able to receive FaceTime calls when ipad was in sleep mode but ever since this past update I don't. I had problems like everyone else wi connecting to the Internet but I was able to fix that. Is there any way the ipad can stay connected while in sleep mode.

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
iPad: Issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3304
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • What do I do when my mac won't start up? I put it in sleep mode after installing the latest OS Lion update and now it won't open up.

Near new mac pro retina, updated OS last night, re-started, finished my work & put it into sleep mode. On power, & hooked up to Thunderbolt screen. Got up this morning and it won't boot up. Is there anything I can do myself, or is this a shop problem?

Sounds like a #1 SMC or #2 PRAM reset is in order.

  • Login issues from sleep mode after OSX maverick update

After upgrading to OSX Maverick on my 13" MacBook Pro, I am having issues with logging in after it being in sleep mode. Everytime I close the screen to go somewhere and open it back up to continue what I was working on I type my password in (I am the only user, no other user accounts) it acts like the password is wrong and the only way to get logged in is to hold the power button down to shut the computer off then power it back up, then I can login.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IMac does not starts once on sleep mode after last Mavericks update... Anyone with the same problem?

Since the last update, when my iMac goes to sleep mode it seems that the mouse or the keyboard can wake it up.  I have to do a "hard reset" everytime.  Anyone has this type a problem?

    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem.
    Step 3
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, if any. Be sure to disconnect all USB hubs. If you use a keyboard or mouse plugged into a hub, plug the devices directly into a built-in USB port and remove the hub. Test.
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator for this step.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for Diagnostic and Usage Messages. If you don't see that heading, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. In the search box in the window's toolbar, enter "powerd" (without the quotes.) Select the last few messages that appear, if any, and copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

  • Monitor stuck in sleep mode after video software update

Using Boot Camp I had opened Windows 7 to find a large number of files to update via the Automatic Updater.  One was an Nvidia update.  It was installed last and required its own reboot.  Upon reboot the monitor would not display and issued the message the screen was going into sleep mode.  I tried to reboot.  I got the screen indicating the shutdown was not completed properly and asked if I wanted to go into Safe Mode or Normal Startup.  I tried to choose Safe Mode but neither my mouse of keyboard were functional (is there another way to choose Safe Mode?).
I have recently upgraded to OS Lion via software + I am in Windows XP SP3 under Boot Camp.  I'm kind of stuck trying to imagine how to approach solving this issue.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Jim

I have resolved this issue myself.  I connected a wired mouse in place of my wireless unit.  I then forced a reboot which landed me at the screen allowing me to start in Safe Mode.  Within Safe Mode I was able to retrieve a Restore Point that was automatically set by Windows just before the Nvidia update was downloaded.  The system automatically rebooted and everything was back to where it had been.
    The system is fine, now.
