Sleep mode - manual says wait before moving - why? Yoga 13

I thought that this unit had a solid state drive. Why am I having to wait for the hard drive per the manual? Was this a mistake? Do I need to really worry about this?

hi Machine,
I would say that you don't have to worry about this, as this was meant I believe for systems that have old IDE/SATA Hard disks.
I checked the Yoga 13 configuration and your system is solely running on SSD which don't have spinning disk  to worry about.

Note:
Wait until the power indicator light starts blinking (indicating that the computer is
in sleep mode) before you move your computer. Moving your computer while the
hard disk is spinning can damage the hard disk, causing loss of data.

  • File Adapter Advanced Mode - Msecs to Wait Before Modifications Check

Hi, Can anybody tell me how to set this parameter "Msecs to Wait Before Modifications Check" in PI 7.1? I don't see this parameter at all. In advance mode of PI 7.1, we just have Maximum File Size(bytes). Also when I checked the SAP note 801926 for Advanced Mode we can just set only
    1. Parameter name: "clusterSyncMode"
    2. Parameter name: "ftp.timeout"
Please let me know if anybody has configured this already in PI 7.1.

    Hi Ravi
I think this feature is no longer supported in PI 7.1. Although it work with PI 7.0 for NFS and non FCC only.
    Thanks

  • Sometimes my apps won't load on my iPad 2, they just keep saying wait anyone know why this happens.

It will just say waiting instead of actually loading my apps, sometimes for days. Why does this happen.

When a download is interrupted, it sits there and blocks everything in line behind it.  You need to find a good connection, then allow that original download to complete.  Try logging into the store from your computer, and see if it will download there.

  • How long is the damned thing going to say "waiting" before it actually downloads?

Sitting here doing nothing and it seems not to be downloading at all.

A long time. Give it half an hour, if the loading bar hasn't moved, then restart and the DL should pick up from where it left off.

  • Network Desktop needs to be refreshed after waking from sleep mode

My network is running Win 7 32bit SP1,
All users have their documents and desktop saved on the network.
I'm testing two computers for a new sleep mode policy, and I've noticed that after waking up from sleep outlook will be disconnected and/or require the user credentials again. I seemed to have fixed this by not allowing the computer to turn off the NIC when
going to sleep. However, on the other test machine the desktop icons are gone when waking up from a long sleep (I haven't been able to pinpoint a specific time frame but it has happened after only three or four hours of sleep), if I refresh the desktop the
icons pop up right away. If I start sleep mode manually and wait thirty minutes or so everything is still there.
There are a few different models throughout our network so I want to make sure I have a good policy set to cover any possible nuances. The test machine that this is happening on is a Dell Optiplex 3010.
Also, does anyone know how long it would take the NIC to shut down if it was supposed to and is there a good way to verify and test the network connection while the machine was in sleep mode?
    Thanks

    Thank you for your help.
This is the details of the policy. It is enforced and enabled. I made the adjustments you suggested and it still happening, also it is now happening on both test machines (the other is a Vostro 260), and also to remind you it even happens when I start sleep
mode manually. 1 out of 10 times it doesn't happen, but it's randomly and without me making any changes. In the event log under windows/system I see an event ID 1 "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is disconnected
from network." when it wakes up from sleep. This event has been visible under the the machine I was having trouble with orginally, now it is on both of them.
I really can't wrap my head around this one.
UPDATE: I changed nothing else in the GPO and made one change to both of the computers i manually changed the NIC settings to
Allow the computer to turn off this device, Allow this device to wake up the computer and using a magic packet.
The reason I put that registry preference was because I believed this is the setting that was causing Outlook to ask for a password after a long night or so of sleep.
...Still a bit confused but I'll continue the testing.

  • Does moving your MB around in sleep mode (lid closed) ruin your harddrive?

ive heard from some people that their harddrive has been screwed over after doing this, is it true?

    Hi art,
The one thing that definitely is important as far as moving your laptop in the sleep mode, is to wait until your sleep light begins to dim & brighten prior to moving it.
I have carried my PowerBooks back and forth across country several times in the sleep mode without a problem.

  • Screen flickers when resuming from sleep mode

I have a newly brought T430 laptop with the Nvdia graphics card. Sometimes when I resume from sleep mode, the screen flickers before entering into the desktop view.
Is this a problem or normal? I hope nothing is wrong with my gpu. Is there a way to check?
    Thanks!

It is definitely not a Leopard bug because it has been happening on every portable Mac I've ever had.
I don't agree. I had no problems at all with my MacBook Pro running Tiger. I initially did an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard and when the problems started I assumed it was a problem with the upgrade. I then completely erased and did a clean install of Leopard. The problem has actually gotten worse since I did the clean re-install.

Just close the screen, wait for it to go back to sleep, then open it again. It will probably be fine.
As I mentioned in my opening post, I've gone through that song and dance more times than I can count. I've closed it, waited for as much as an hour, opened it back up...same problem. I've hard powered it down, closed it, disconnected the AC adapter, removed the battery, opened it, held down the power button for 15 seconds, re-installed the battery, reconnected the AC adapter, pushed the power button, and the display will still be dark. It's sometimes taken as many as 5 or 6 iterations of that process before it will finally reset whatever problem it was having and boot normally with a functioning display.

  • Instant Shut-off instead of Sleep Mode

My Mac Pro recently started to instantly shut-off when I want to enter Sleep Mode manually. It also doesn't enter Sleep mode per Energy Saver Preferences any more.
I am a bit at a loss at what could cause this behavior. I have diligently installed all software Apple updates.
Anybody has encounter such problem before and know how to fix it?

I tried just about everything including the SMC Reset. I got a copy of the Service Repair Manual and I performed the following test:
    System Reset
Mac Pro (Early 2008) has a system reset switch on the logic board that may be used to restart
the system while it is powered up. This switch can be used to determine if a computer that
won’t consistently boot from a cold start has power supply issues. Follow these steps to reset the
    system:
    1. With the computer powered up, press the SYS_RST switch located in the upper right-hand
corner of the logic board. To press the switch, use the nylon probe tool (Apple part number
    922-5065).
    2. If the computer boots after you press the SYS_RST switch, try shutting the computer off and
restarting by pressing the front power button. If the computer restarts when you press the
SYS_RST switch but not from a cold start, the power supply may need to be replaced.

  • HP AIO 8610 Pro doesn't go into sleep mode anymore

I noticed yesterday that theAIO  panel stays lit now, with sleep mode activated.   When before, in sleep mode, the panel darkens.   I reset sleep mode to 10 minutes from 5 minutes only to determine if this will allow for sleep. I also restarted the AIO8610 to recycle anything that may be stopping 'sleep'. Please advise.

Hi , I see you have been troubleshooting an issue with the sleep mode not darkening the display screen on the Officejet Pro 8610, and I think I may have some information for you. Is the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or a power bar? We want to connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause. If it is currently connected to a wall outlet you may want to try a different one in another room. See this document for more information about Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector (Note: This document is not limited to Laserjet printers.) When you reset the printer did you do a full hard reset;Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the back of the printerWhile it is unplugged, you can hold down the power button on the printer for about 10-15 seconds to release any built up powerThen plug the printer back in To confirm, you are changing the sleep mode settings as per the manual instructions? To change the time to Sleep mode:1. From the printer control panel display, touch (ECO).2. Touch Sleep, and then touch the desired option. NOTE: If you change your country or region from the printer control panel, the time to sleep mode is automatically set to the default, which is 5 minutes. Maybe re-selecting your country or region will set the printer back to the defaults. To try this;Locate your Setup menu
You should see an option for Printer SetupThen touch on Country/Region, re-select your country and region Other then these steps, I would check for firmware updates that may also correct the problem you are experiencing. You can click on this link to Getting Printer Updates for HP Officejet Pro 8610 Series. A couple of other documents that have information related to sleep mode; What is Sleep Mode? The Printer Stops Responding after Entering Sleep Mode or Power Save Mode If the issue continues, please Contact HP Support for further assistance. Fill in the model number and the form to receive a case number for quicker assistance.  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!  Thanks,

  • HP Office Jet Pro 8500 - Sleep Mode

I installed new software from the HP website on two 8500's. Now they both do not go into the sleep mode like they did before. Any solutions?

I am running WIndows 7 operating system. The sleep mode worked fine until about six months ago. Now my HP never goes off or into a sleep mode. The color screen is always on. I checked the utilities options and the sleep mode is turn on. I believe HP did a firm ware or soft ware upgrade that is the cause of the problem. My brother has the same unit and his is also doing the same thing.

  • My macbook boots up and only stays on for 30sec and goes into sleep mode

My macbook boots up and only stays on for 30sec and goes into sleep mode! Any suggestions as to why this might be happening? Thanks....

I assume you have checked your sleep settings in System Preferences>Energy saver
I also assume this has just happened recently and spontaneously, not after installing any particular hardware or software or you would probably have mentioned it...if anything new has been added recently, obviously just remove it!
It could be the battery - have your tried it just on mains? If it's a pre unibody MacBook try it without the battery at all. This could happen if you have a non-Apple (cheap Chinese) replacement battery.
Try NVRAM, PRAM & SMC resets (Google if you don't know how)
Try booting from the install media and repairing or reinstalling OS X. (Back up first!)
Just out of interest if you boot from a DVD or go into Open Firmware or Boot Select modes, does it still sleep after 30 seconds or is it just in OS X?

Okay, I seem to have solved the problem I posted about earlier.  I noticed that the language preference in the upper right hand corner of the screen (between the date and time and the Spotlight icon) had somehow gotten switched from American English to French.  When I switched it back to American English, my password worked when waking the computer from sleep mode.  I have no idea why changing the language preference would affect the way the password works but that seems to have been the case.  I'll post again if I experience more problems.

  • N80 v4.0707.0.7 Sleep Mode Problem

    Hi every body,

    Originally It's ON.

Sleep Mode Start, Quickly after ScreenSaver!
    Why ?

Hi, I have the same firmware version and my phone behaves the same - screen saver kicks in a few seconds after I lock the keypad, and then sleep mode kicks in right away.
I also noticed something else which I wonder if anyone else has noticed: the phone has entered sleep mode, so the screen is blank and the blue light is flashing. Then I receive a call, and answer it by either sliding the phone up or pressing the answer button. After I end the call, I notice that the blue light is still flashing, and it continues to flash as I use the phone to do other things, when the phone is obviously not in the sleep mode. The blue light will only stop flashing after the phone has entered sleep mode again and is "awakened" by me sliding it open or unlocking the keypad, i.e. not by answering a call.
Has anyone noticed this happening to their phone? If I understand correctly, the only function of the blue light is to indicate that the phone is "sleeping" so I think this is a bug. Thanks for your input.
