"Sleep" option disappeared from power options???

So I have my laptop's power options for closing the lid to sleep, but instead of going to sleep each time I close the lid, it is instead going into hibernation every single time. When I try to fix the issue, the whole "Sleep" option is not even
listed under Power Options > Advanced Settings > Power buttons and lid > Lid close action.
From the drop-down menu, the only three options I see are "Do nothing," "Hibernate," and "Shut down."
WTF is going on?

Hi,
Meanwhile, are you able to find the sleep option in other location? Such as in the power button?
Regarding to the driver, I suggest you uninstall the original driver, then reboot mahcine, it will automatically install the driver again, check if issue persists.
Check your power management settings in BIOS, make sure that sleep mode is turned on in BIOS, It's recommended to refer to the manufacture user manual.
Update the BIOS, make sure to have the latest BIOS version

  • IPod Mini refuses to sleep when unplugged from power

Hello, I have a problem with the Sleep function in my Mini. The whole of the context is as follows:
After a period of inactivity (two weeks approx.) I wanted to use my Mini. However, after rousing it from sleep, it immediately froze. When it did respond, any input from the wheel, the buttons or the Hold switch would take up to a minute to be registered on the display. Resetting (toggle Hold, press and hold "Menu" + "Select") did nothing to solve the issue, either plugged or unplugged from the PC or the power adapter. Thinking this might be a one-in-a-million bug, I went and used the iPod Updater to restore it to factory settings and update to the latest firmware (1.6, if I recall correctly.)
That did the trick as far as the random freezes went, and the iPod hasn't frozen since. However, it has completely lost the ability to sleep unless I enable the Sleep Timer. Whether this is a result of the bug which caused the freezes, or a bug from the update, I don't know. I have tried holding the Play/Pause button, selecting the "Sleep" option from the main menu, and performing soft-resets on a variety of situations (connected to the PC, connected but ejected, connected to the adapter, disconnected...) and the device won't go into sleep mode.
Ironically, the Sleep function DOES work perfectly when it's plugged into the PC and charging the battery. Both the Play/Pause method and the menu option respond correctly. Of course, being able to sleep when it's already charging doesn't help much.
Obviously, I've taken care that the Hold switch is toggled to the "off" position, and I have reset the poor mini so many times I'm anxious about causing it damage. As it is, my only option is to set the Sleep Timer to 15 minutes and simply interact with the iPod until I'm ready to let it turn itself off.
Any help would be appreciated. While I wouldn't run out of battery charge (or so I hope) during the day's use, it's still a worrisome bug, and it essentially keeps the iPod anchored to a power source every eight hours, even if I don't use it.

To elaborate more on what Rob said. Since the iPod is a hard drive based device(similar to your computer) the disc inside spins and there is a needle to read the data.
What you are suggusting would be like yanking the power cord out of your computer in mid install of something, the chance of data lose is there and if happened enough bad sectors can arise. Should you do that? No, Would you do it? In most cases not.
A bad sector would in most causes make the ipod freeze when accessing it or make it fail its disk check and requiring replacement.

  • (SOLVED) Display brightness disappeared from Power Options in Vista, Lenovo G530

    Hello board,
My system Lenovo G530 product ID 444638U
I used to be able to adjust display brightness in Vista from Control Panel > Power Options. I could set how bright when on battery and how bright when on AC. Also, it used to be that when I unplugged power cable it would automatically adjust my brightness according to those settings. Now, nothing happens when I unplug power cable, not even a beep.
Possible problem is as follows, but let's keep an open mind to other things as well. I spilled beer on keyboard recently. ONLY on keyboard I am sure. I replaced keyboard with something that fits but something that isn't made for my laptop, has different arrangement of Fn+ keys. Basically ever since the beer accident and ever since I replaced keyboard I had this brightness issue.
    Please help me solve this.
    -Alex

    I solved this problem..
Solution is to upgrade the BIOS to latest version. I am not sure actually whether latest BIOS had the needed fix or not, or it was just the process of updating the BIOS that solved this issue.  But no doubt, after flashing the BIOS, display brightness function reappeared!

  • Powerbook won't wake from sleep when unplugged from power

    hi everyone,
    i have a 15" 1ghz titanium powerbook, running 10.4.6.
recently (maybe since 10.4.6?) i haven't been able to wake the machine from sleep when i unplug it from powering up in sleep mode, to open it up someplace else to run it on batteries for a little while. i always have to do a hard-reboot (holding down the startup button for several seconds). this usually destroys my dock and other preferences when i'm "back in".
does anyone know what might be causing this? it seems to be a recent development. it's unpleasant, because i frequently have the powerbook charge itself while asleep, and then i want to unplug it and quickly do something in another room running it on batteries. afaik sleeping and awakening works fine as long as i don't plug/unplug the power cable before waking it up.
any hints would be greatly appreciated...thank you!

    Hi A.L.,
I have a Cinema Display which I often use on the back of my Ti. I know the laptop will not wake if there is no power and it has an external DVI display attached.
Perhaps your computer thinks it has some monitor attached - perhaps checking the DVI port for damage would be worth it?

  • The option to set a limit on 'undo's has disappeared from preferences. How do I get it back?

The first time I used AE, we had a power cut. The next time I opened the application I went to check my preferences and the option to set a limit on 'undo's has completely disappeared from the general preferences panel. Is the application damaged/corrupted?
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling AE but the 'undo's limit is still missing...

The preference for controlling the number of undo levels was removed in After Effects CC (12.1). The number of undo levels is 99, the maximum.
I presume that the update was installed between the last time you changed this value and when you noticed the change.

  • Wake From Sleep Option Dimmed DBT-120 ver. C1

The bluetooth wake from sleep option is disabled for my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse. I'm using the Apple recommended dlink DBT-120 adapter, version C1. Bluetooth firmware updater 1.2 says my hardware is up to date, so it won't install. Updater 1.2.1 will not run on either of my Macs (G4 MDD or G5 DP), which are both running 10.4.8.
Any ideas on getting the wake from sleep option working with the DBT-120 version C1 adapter?
    G5 2GHZ DP   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Good news - I now have full bluetooth functionality with keyboard & mouse, including wake from sleep, as well as certain start-up key combos. Here's how it did it, after reading numerous related Discussion posts:
    - I gave up on the DBT-120 version C1 adapter, and got an older D-Link DBT-120 version B3 on eBay. The collective experience in the Discussions, and my own, show that the current Apple bluetooth firmware updaters (1.2 & 1.2.1) do not work with the newer DBT-120 version C1. Too bad this isn't clearly explained on Apple's download pages, or in the updater readme files.
    - To help ensure a successful firmware update, I unplugged all other USB devices except the wired mouse & keyboard, booted Panther 10.3.6 from a firewire backup drive, ran no other applications, and prevented the Mac from sleeping.
    - I used bluetooth firmware updater 1.2 (not 1.2.1) to update the firmware on the version B3 adapter. It does indeed take about 15 minutes to complete the firmware update, and goes through several write and wait cycles during the process.
    - After the update was completed, I shut down, and totally removed power from the computer & all peripherals for a few minutes before restarting.
    - Upon restarting, I had to delete the old C1 adapter based keyboard & mouse pairings from Bluetooth Preferences, and create new pairings using the upgraded B3 adapter. (I also marked the keyboard & mouse as Favorites.) I'm guessing this was necessary because some of the bluetooth pairing information must be stored in the bluetooth adapter - it's not all stored in OS X's preferences.
Aside from being able to wake from sleep, the Apple-upgraded DBT-120 (B3) enables smoother mouse operation and more reliable right-clicking.
Guess I'll have to find another use for my new DBT-120 version C1 adapter, unless Apple eventually comes out with an updated bluetooth firmware upgrade for it. Hello, Cupertino?

  • My iPhoto library has suddenly disappeared from my computer. When i click on iPhoto it tells me to choose my library or create a new one. However no library option appears. I have searched the computer for the library but it does not seem to exist

My iPhoto library has suddenly disappeared from my computer.
When i click on iPhoto it tells me to choose my library or create a new one. However no library option appears. I have searched the computer for the library but it does not seem to exist anymore. I did not have time machine set up, so there is no back up. Is there any way i can retrieve my library?
Here is a picture of what appears when i click on iPhoto:

In terms of searching i have searched for photos on my finder. However, none of the photos that appear are from my iPhoto Library.
Search with FindAnyFile. You can download it here:   http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
Search for any file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the name. If you added at least one image to your library, the library should contain a file with this name, see OldToad's post: Re: Since I updated to iPhoto 9.5.1, my library is not listed or available. How can I find it? Can I use the time machine to restore it?

  • HT4818 I have installed bootcamp that worked properly.  Then I have partitioned the OS X 10.8.2 and installed another OS X 10.8.2 and I have got two MAC boot options and Bootcamp disappeared from the Option menu. How can I boot Windows again and keep both

I have installed bootcamp by the bootcamp assistant and worked properly.
Then I have partitioned the OS X 10.8.2 and installed another Mountain Lion System and I have got two MAC boot options and Bootcamp disappeared from the Option menu. However, Bootcamp still remained in the Startup Disk in the System Preferences. When I tried to boot Bootcamp using the Startup Disk it did not boot and received a message that there is no bootable device. I have not lost any data and can read Bootcamp partition from both OS X systems. Please advise how can I boot Windows / Bootcamp again? Thank you.

Recommendation 1: Use a VM for this. It's essentially a giant C.F. to do this with native booting, and is potentially fragile.
But if you're going to ignore that and do this anyway, realizing that it can break anytime in particular with OS upgrades, and that it's very difficult to impossible to resize the three volumes once you've installed the systems:
    1. create three partitions, setting each to be the size for OS X copy 1, copy 2, and Windows respectively. The Windows partition needs to be set to MS-DOS format (actually FAT32) which later in the Windows installer you'll reformat as NTFS. Do not use Boot Camp Assistant to resize/partition the disk, it simply won't work for this use case.
    2. install OS X copy 1
    3. install OS X copy 3
    4. Use gdisk (available at sourceforge) which is a command line only application, to create a new hybrid MBR adding only the last partition (Windows) to the hybrid MBR and setting it to be bootable. As a concequence you will not be able to see/share either OS X volume from within Windows. The Windows NTFS volume will be visible from within OS X.
    5. Install Windows to the only partition its installer should see (confirm size), you'll need to format it NTFS first, and I suggest using the fast format option if available.

  • After installing an update to Acrobat on my Windows computer, the option to print to .pdf disappears from my printer options menu in all programs.  What can I do?

This is the second time I updated my Adobe Acrobat X Pro program and the option to "Print to .pdf" disappears from my word processing program and all other programs I am running.  Last time I uninstalled Acrobat and reinstalled and that fixed the problem, but that was a long process.  Is there any other way to restore the option?

Do you mean there is no Adobe PDF printer listed? You can check the Start>Devices & Printers list and be sure it appears there.

  • Photosmart 5520 - Scan Option disappears from Mac OS X 10.9 to 10.10 update

I have been searching this problem for the last 2 hours. I have already installed, deleted, reinstalled drivers from this website and Apples site.
Under printers and scanners in my System Preferences, I can choose and easily print from our HP 5520, but the scan option button has now disappeared from my 10.9 to 10.10 update. My wife has the exact same computer as me and we are both connected to the exact same 5520 printer, but she is still on 10.9 (scan option is available and works) and I am on 10.10 (scan option is gone and HP Scan doesnt work either).
    Solutions please!
    Solved...

    Hello @caking1s,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand since doing the Mac update from 10.9 to 10.10 now you are unable to scan with your HP Photosmart 5520.  Please go ahead and follow the steps listed below:
    Scrub/ Uninstall
    • Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
    • Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    • * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    • Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
    1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
    2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
    3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
    4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
    Repair Disk Permissions
1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    2.Double-click Disk Utility.
3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions:
