Sleep problem with iMac Duo Core

I purchased this 20" iMac Duo Core five days ago. Whenever the iMac enter sleep mode with pulsating indicator light below the screen, waking up the iMac always cause complete reboot of iMac. Is this a known issue with 20" iMac Core Duo or there is some problems in configuration under System Preferences ? The SMC firmware was updated from version 1.1f2 to 1.1f5 for installing Windows XP through Boot Camp Assistant in a NTFS disk partition.

Thank you for the useful lead. The problem has been resolved by executing System Management Controller (SMC) reset procedure outlined in support site. Further monitoring on behaviour of the SMC is required. Hopefully this power management problem is not as big as with first generation iMac G5 I used to own. No idea whether latest SMC firmware update released by Apple resolve this problem though I have applied the update for Windows installation through Boot Camp.

  • Sleep problem with iMacs

I am happy owner of 2.8 GHz Intel iMac except with one nagging problem. When I leave my computer in the SLEEP mode for more than 24 hours it tends to not respond and WAKE when I return to use it. I have to unplug power and restart. Since I usually use my computer daily, it's not a major issue -- although it always makes me worry when I have any consistent issue with my computer
And it's not just me. I convinced my father and a close friend to purchase iMacs (PC users) last year as well. They have the same problem. It's worst for them because they are more casual users and often don't use their computers on a daily basis. They all have the exact same issues and are very unhappy about it. They both have the low end machines and have nothing but printers attached to them. I have done searches on the web and it seems like this issue happens occasionally, but it is not necessarily a common iMac issue. My experience is it's a problem with all of the iMacs (3 out of 3) we have purchased.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Here's something you can try:
Delete the following items in the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder:
    com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    com..apple.AutoWake.plist
    Also delete the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file
    Reboot the computer.
If one or more of the above are not present, don't worry about it.
What if any third-party peripherals do you use besides the printer? Does this problem persist if the printer is not connected? What if any third-party software do you have installed on your computer?

  • Safari load image problem with iMac Intel core

I got my new iMac 20" Intel core and system updated everything. I found that Safari cannot load image in my web photo album ( http://fotop.net/nicknick ), all image became "?".
I can load this page correctly with FireFox and Opera Browser. I also try the iMac 17" PowerPC in my office with the latest version Safari, it also load the album correctly. And I know this web is created and store in a Linux server, the web page coding not written or optimized to IE.
I've try to reinstall the whole OS X, nothing else installed, the same problem occurred.
Is it the problem on Intel core? or any setting I can do to overcome it?
Hope the problem could be solve, I like to use Safari except this problem.
iMac 20" Intel core   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well... no - except to ask if your intel imac is connected to the internet in exactly the same way as the ppc imac. If it is, then that's puzzling
You're right, I'm puzzled by the imac.
    Intel imac is at my home, ppc imac is at my office;
both using same ISP but different service plan,
(home:) PPPoE, ADSL modem -> buffalo MIMO wireless router -> intel imac (both direct wire or wireless connect have same result)
(office:) fixed-ip, ADSL modem -> firewall -> Linksys wireless router -> ppc imac (wireless)
both network setting with manual assigned IP, gateway and same DNS
Same result occurred when (1)open box new machine, (2)after updated system, (3)reinstall whole OS with preserve the old setting, (4)reinstall whole OS with erase the whole harddisk option, (5)updated system after the reinstallation.
I firstly think may be some security setting in imac that blocked the images, but can't found out. I secondly think some html code at this web not work on Safari.
May someone with same machine help to open this web to see if all intel imac get the same result?

  • I have a problem with Imac mid 2010 graphics card (ATI Radeon 5670 512MB)

I have a problem with Imac mid 2010 graphics card (ATI Radeon 5670 512MB). When I play video formats like xvid, mkv, avi iMac freezes and emits horrible sound,in service said the problem is not overheating. Not a problem with memory or hard disk because I placed second correct parts. The same problem is with OSX 10.6.8 and 10.8.4 and other players.Apple hardware test found no problem and tech tool pro found no fault.
After five days of testing in the service they can not  found fault and it was decided to change the graphics card.
New graphics have been tested for two days but it is not reproduced divx ... but their test software which did not find any fault on the old graphics...
Do I have the right to complain if repair does not fix the problem because I use non apple softwere and video formats.

You could look at the System Profile for the info it presents for the card.  But why wouldn't you think it's not up to date if you have the latest install (according to your sig above)?
What program are you trying to run?  Is there anything in the system log?
I think it's the program that's having the problem and not anything with your video software.

  • Problems with iMac retina 5K (artifacts, glitches and etc.)

    Hello dear Apple.
I have bought new iMac with retina 5K display and I have found lot of problem with it. It was December 2014 when I got my first iMac. And after then I have found few real problems with it.
The first problem is I can't open high resolution image with standard Preview.app. I mean 'high resolution' - more then 30-40 megapixels. When I open them, I can see image, but only 2-3 seconds, and after that I see horizontal artifacts only. I can't open images, like this Rembrandt.jpg; Carpaccio.jpg; Holbein.jpg
The second problem, when I change resolution in to scaled mode (System Preferences/Display) for increase image on display. I found when select some area on background of desktop it has left some lines after itself. It is particularly unpleasant if you have plain colour desktop background. You can view, how does it look here.
The next problem with animation in different parts of interface, e.g. sometimes when I open Time Machine some parts of windows are freezing or appear some artifacts or glitches near borders of window. And I have the same situation, when I open Mission Control, or any Adobe app or other, or simply rename a files. I have found few discussions with problems like mine, but in the separate places
    5K iMac - bad GPUs?
    Graphic Problems with Retina iMac
    iMac 5K and indesign glitch
And after that I want to tell you that I have this problems on four (4) iMacs. It was really difficult to arrange four replace. I have lost a lot of time an spent a lot of nerves for discuss and resolve my problems with Apple support. Finally, they told me that they do not know about problems with iMacs, and they could offer give my money back. I glad to get my funds, but now in my country price for iMacs has doubled. And if they refund my money, I can buy half new iMac only.
I am sorry for my language and style, but I do not know what I should doing with that. And should I hope, that my problem resolve with OS X updates? Or it is hardware problem of the whole iMacs 5K...

Yes Ralph, absolutely correct, 4 times. Do you have the graphic card the same as me, or m290? Could I ask you check your iMac for few things, please?
For the first, can you enlarge scale in System preference/Display and install plain dark color desktop background. Are there any footprints after rectangular selection like in my video https://youtu.be/dBglFvjJx1Q?
And for the second, could you download this image https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/Rembrandt_Harmensz._van_Rijn _-_Nachtwacht_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg  and open in plain Preview.app, and zoom it? Are there any glitches?
    Thank forward.

  • Sleeping Problem With ACD 27"

I have a sleeping problem with my 27" ACD that is connected to a 2010 Mac Pro and a Macbook Pro. The display is set to sleep after 5 minutes and it appears to be sleeping. The screen goes black but on closer inspection with a flash light, you can still see the login screen or any open window.
Here is a picture of what i'm experiencing http://www.flickr.com/photos/59070359@N04/5411570689/.
Can anyone confirm this problem by trying the steps below?
1.) Have the Apple 27 ACD connected to a 2010 Mac Pro with the latest Mac OS X update(10.6.6).
2.) Go into the Energy Saver and set the Display to sleep at 1 minute and have computer sleep set to never.
3.) Leave the System Preferences window open and wait for the display to sleep.
4.) Once you see that the display is asleep flash a light directly on the screen where you left the System Preferences window open.

I discovered this effect many weeks ago and just thought that's the way the display "sleeps". A possibly simpler way to reproduce the effect is to select a hot corner to put the display to sleep (using the Hot Corners... button in the Desktop & Screen Save preferences). Put the mouse in the selected hot corner to put the display to sleep and then shine the flashlight on the screen. You'll see an "echo" (? - pick a term of your choice) of whatever is on the screen at the time it's put to "sleep".
I don't normally use the hot corners feature since I quickly discovered I would sometimes move the mouse into there inadvertently and it was annoying when the screen blacked out. I don't consider this a "problem" though. After all how many folks shine flashlights at their ACD? I'm not sure what I was thinking to prompt me to ever do it in the first place.
I was once jokingly going to post about never shining flashlight at the ACD simply because you can then see every smudge and smear on the glass It would then start to drive you nuts trying to get 'em all off!
\[Heh, I guess now everyone reading this thread it now pulling out flashlights \]

  • Mighty Mouse Tracking Problems with Mac mini core duo

I have a new Mac mini core duo (2GB RAM, 100GB HDD) and I'm having problems with my USB Might Mouse.
The cursor stutters and doesn't track with the movement of the mouse and it will sometimes leap to a different part of the screen or get stuck at the last place it rested. At other times the mouse will track smoothly for a while before starting to stutter again. The behavior isn't consistent.
Is anybody else having tracking problems?
Any thoughts on what might be causing this behavior?
    iMac G5 20 & Mac mini 1.42Ghz, PB G4 1.67Mhz, Mac mini core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hmm, this could be one of two things. Your mac might be faulty (Harware wise) which would suck. But, hopefully it is a problem with your drivers that need updating. Try these 3 options.
    1. Update you mouse driver.
    2. Update you video card driver (Video cards can sometimes affect mouse sensitivety -don't ask why)
    3. This is my last solution, before consulting a technician (For money if you can do it free talk to one!) or returning your mini: Try reformating/reinstalling Max OSX and if u have bootcamp check out wat happens to the mouse in XP check for the same problem if it doesn't happen in XP your hardware is safe. IF the problem continues after this... looks like your hardware is bad in that case i recomend a return or send back (If your on warranty).
    GOod luck,

  • How do I upgrade OS X 10.5.8 on my iMac with Intel duo core processor

I have an iMac 24" with 2,16 Ghz Intel Core Duo processor and 2Gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM running on OS X 10.5.8 to Lion?
I know I have to upgrade first to snowleopard???
If so SnowLeopard is not available in the iCentres etc.
    What to do??
    Brgds,
    Nils

Your iMac is a Core 2 Duo not a Core Duo according to this http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-2-duo-2.16-24-inch-sp ecs.html
Which is good since the specifications for OSX Lion require a Core 2 Duo as minimum processor:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
The road to OSX Lion requires you to have OSX Snow Leopard before which can be bought from Apples Online Store http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA but is not avaiable as a download.
After installation of OSX Snow Leopard and installation of neccessary updates to it you can then use the Mac App Store to buy OSX Lion and install it.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/
For OSX Lion an upgrade of your RAM to 4GB might be advisable.

  • Problems with iMAc display running XP in Bootcamp

    Hi.
I have just purchased a 20" iMac with intention of having a dual use machine.
Bootcamp installed easily, everything fine except in Windows XP, the iMAc display shows horrible green edges where various antialias greys should be. This does not happen in the attached Sony dual display. It also gives me a headache. Because of this I have had my first experience of the less than ideal Support...
I take this to mean there is a panel problem..?
    Any ideas??
    Thanks

  • Massive problem with iMac i5

Today I bought a new i5 iMac with 8Gig of ram. I had massive problems with the instillation of Lion. I spoke with Apple for nearly 1.5 hours. I finally got it working and now it has crashed 9 times in 30 minutes. Why?? Please Help. I am going to take it back to the shop tomorrow.

    Thanks fro your quick reply.
I get the slow darkened screen that moves down the until it says that I have to hold down the poer button for a forced restart.
I tried opening all the really big memory hogs ll at once, eg Final cut pro, apature, imove HD etc, and that was no problem. It seem sto be completly random.

  • Sleep problems with a MacBookPro6,2 with OSX 10.6.7

    Hi everybody,
I'm yet another pal with sleep problems on my MacBookPro6,2 (Core i5 mid 2010).
After a few hours of activity it refuses to sleep. It just wakes instantly, with the same info on the kernel.log as
many other are seeing on theirs:

I have nothing plugged in my MacBookPro, other than the power cord.
I have tried all the tips I've seen, like resetting the PRAM and the SMC.
I even did a reinstall of the entire OS X (SnowLeopard 10.6.7) although I did recover all my apps and settings from TimeMachine.
It is really annoying and I am beginning to think there is some issue in the USB code within OSX's kernel.
The only thing I can think of I have not tried is not running Firefox, which is always open.
But I don't see how that might interfere with the usb hub on the motherboard issuing a wakeup.
I don't remember ever having this issue on my first generation MacBookPro.
All the info I've found is minimum a few months old, going back to a few years for problems with external hubs.
Does anyone know anything else to try? Is this the best way to make Apple know about the issue?

Solution found for me. From Adobe Acrobat & Reader 9.1 Release Notes:
Roaming Profiles on Windows and Networked Home Directory on Macintosh
are not supported configurations for 9.0 or 9.1, however we have made
several fixes in 9.1. We are looking at the possibility of supporting
this for the next major release.
As I am working with roaming profiles, my current solution (which is no solution at all) is to wipe current and reinstall Acrobat/Reader 8. Among other things there are supposed console hacks to make the purchased Adobe software run at all in a group work environment. I will end up trying them later.

  • Many problems with Imac

I've had my iMac for a little over a year and now I am having problems with programs not opening, but then not being able to close. the arrow is under them but no matter how many times I force quit it won't close. Happens mainly with Toast and Itunes. Also, sometimes the computer will go to sleep and I can't get it to wake up. when this happens the fan just goes crazy. I have reset permissions and verified permissions. I have run the OSX disk with hardware utility and everything checks out fine. Will I have to reformat or just not use it anymore?
    Jason

    Jason -
    Sometimes zapping the P-RAM helps:
    1. After the startup tone, hold down <cmd><opt><r> until 3 additional startup tones are heard, then release the 4 keys.
Sometimes doing the Open Firmware resets helps:
    1. After the startup tone hold down <cmd><opt><O><F> until a text screen appears (that's the letter Oh, not the number zero).
    2. When you can start typing, enter the following commands, following each command by pressing <return>.
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
The mac will start normally at this point.
If still not successful, try this as well:
After the startup tone, hold down the <shift> key until you (hopefully) reach the desktop. This start is called "Safe Start" and it will be longer than normal, because Disk Utility's "repair" is invisibly run; it also will bypass any login items. If the system gets to the desktop OK this time but stalls when the shift key is NOT held down, the problem may be some login item that will need to be removed, using the Accounts panel of System Preferences and its Login Items section.
If none of these suggestions work, you may be required to perform an Archive and Install re-installation of the Mac OS. This is one of the options presented by the OS installer when you run it, and it preserves all your settings, data and added programs, but puts a new copy of the OS on the hard drive from which to boot.
Please let us know how you make out,
    Miriam

  • Problems with iMac 21.5 inch screen

    Dear all,
As you can see on the pictures I have the following problems with my iMac. I get spots if I have to drag folder for example or when I open a picture in Preview. It is a normal background picture but if I open it in preview I get dots and since Maveriks it has become more worse. I get real weird lines.
I have the following iMac 21.5 inch:
    - 21.5-inch, Mid 2010
    - 3.6GHz Intel Core i5
    - 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    - ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB
    I have already tried:
    - New internal memory;
    - Reinstall OS X;
Apple can not really help. They also do not know what is problem. I also have no apple warranty.
Would anyone help me with this? You are my last attempt.
    Thanks in advance.

My guess is your GPU (graphics processing unit) is failing. Take the machine to your local Apple Store and have a Genius examine it or take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). Please click https://locate.apple.com/country  to begin looking for an AASP in your area.
