Sleep Problems after 10.6.5 Upgrade

After upgrading to 10.6.5 my iMac wont sleep consistantly when using the Alt, Apple, Eject shortcut. Sometimes it sleeps just fine, sometimes it will sleep for 5 seconds and then start up again. Removing all attached devices (except for keyboard and wired apple mouse and router) makes no difference. It always sleeps from the menu and also if I access sleep using Ctrl, Eject and then typing "S".
I've read the other posts on this subject but nothing suggested seems to work.
Anyone any other ideas?

Ok after several minutes the bluetooth mouse is working fine on the dongle thing. It disconnected a couple of times and just wasn't tracking very good at first, but after a while that cleared up and it is working as expected. I was going to take the macbook to a service center, but I'm holding off for now to see if Apple issues an update that will fix it.
So anyone having issues can get bluetooth stuff to connect with a 11 dollar dongle thing... Stinks that i have to take up a usb slot with the dongle, but I absolutely need my magic mouse to be productive. I cannot believe how reliant I am on the mouse after using it a year. I absolutely love the magic mouse when used in combination with Better Touch Tool.
I was going crazy trying to use a standard mouse. I kept flicking the thing with two fingers and getting irritated to the point of insanity. haha

  • Dictation problems after ios 8.2 upgrade

I rely heavily upon dictation.   2 problems occur (at minimum) after ios 8.2 upgrade to iphone 6. .
    1. I wasnt going to add this dictation bug (feature ;-)) b/c couldnt reproduce the seemingly safari bug when got home, but as I was dictating my first sentence for defect here, it happens in this text box on any line. :-(.
        1. Problem is as soon as dictation types in word Or words, when I hit done, it erases what was just dictated!  Happens on even just ine word. (So having to manually type all of this n I stink at typing ie, time consuming).
        2. I can paste characters from noteoad into here...so must be dictation relateD...it seems.
    2.  In the calendar textbox, when I dictate a new event (doesnt happen in location textbox) and the last character before it fills up the end of textbox (just before the "x"), it automatically does "done" for me (the beep sounds), it stops dictating, but more annoying is it will no longer allow me to continue dictating in that new event's top textbox.  That means I HAVE to type n I stink at that. To reproduce I simply:
    1. press the microphone.
      2. Type in only numerics 1 thru 17....it will dictate to look like this:  123 456-789-1011 1213 1415 1617
      3. "Beep/dong" noise because it hits the end of characters alowed it seems n decides it is "Done".
      4.  press the microphone
       5. "Beep/dong" noise because it wont let you dictate any more of anything said.
I Couldnt find the entry where google shows someone with what looks like same issue/bug/defect/feature # 2, so entering this.
I Have warranty but cant figure out how to get phone support for iphone (only mac ...last year).
I don't seem to have this problem using i notepad in phone when he gets to having to wrap. :-)
I Have not trieddictation on my mac...yet.
CAn someone help on these issues please? Thanks!

    Hey Markwoody,
Wow! That definitely sounds frustrating, but good job so far isolating and troubleshooting the issue. We have a few more steps that we can try in an attempt to resolve this issue:
First, it sounds like you have tried restarting your phone. Let’s try a reset instead:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht201559
    How to reset
    - You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
    - To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If the issue persists, we’ll want to restore your device to factory settings and test once more. You can backup your device, but be sure to restore it as new first for isolation purposes, as restoring a backup can sometimes restore the same issues that you were experiencing before.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Timeouts and connection problems after 5.1(2) upgrade

AIM/chat and some other programs are having timeout/connection problems after upgrade to 5.1(2). I am using S241 also. The connection problems stopped when the IPS was set to bypass. Rebuilt IPS and left sigs at default settings and problem is still happening. I am not seeing any of the IPs that are having the problem in the Event Viewer or on the Events in the IDM.
Any known issues with the 5.1(2) that would cause this type of problem?

I don't know specifically, but I did notice that 5.1(3) was released today.

  • Sound problems after iOS 4.2 upgrade

Experiencing very poor sound quality after iOS 4.2 upgrade. Bad eq, left channel dropping out, sounds like heavy reverb. Exists with iPod and pandora apps. Tried adjusting eq in settings. Any one else having problems?

Yep I just upgraded to new OS 4.2 on iPhone 4 and I get this static buzz sound when talking to people it's really annoying and sound quality is terrible. What happened? I went back to the shop and they said it's the upgrade and that there is an issue with it. They also said there is no point leaving the phone with them as they can't fix it that it's upto apple to release a patch for the problem. Can we get a fix for this soon before I damage my ears?

Hi, since you have performed NVRAM /PRAM reset, try:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
and if still issues persist,  try: OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?

  • Problems After Win 8.1 Upgrade - Two Additional Partitions Both With Same Volume Serial Number?

An update from Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro has occurred automatically on one of my machines.
Prior to the upgrade (from memory) the machine had an OEM Partition (40MB), EFI System Partition (500MB), Recovery Partition (8.17GB) and OS (C:) partition. Only the latter was visible in Computer.
After the 8.1 upgrade there are two additional partitions, Recovery (500MB) and Recovery (450MB). All the partitions are now displayed in This PC as drives except the 40MB OEM Partition.
When viewed in This PC both the two new drives (that appear to equate to the new partitions) show as 499MB each with the same amount of free space. In Disk Management the first new partition is shown as 500MB and the second as 450MB.
I have SugarSync installed on this machine and since the upgrade it is displaying an error telling me it won't work because the two new drives have the same Volume Serial Numbers.
Clearly something has gone wrong with the upgrade:
Is there any way to resolve the Volume Serial Number conflict?
Is there any way to stop all these drives appearing in This PC?
Do I need the two new partitions and if not how can I get rid of them?

There is a fourth path to upgrading to Windows 8.1 provided by Microsoft. Microsoft have been displaying automated reminders from time to time on Windows 8 computers that Windows 8.1 update is available to download - from these reminders it is possible to
choose either Install or Not Now.  Just recently these reminders have changed, they are instead notifying the user that the Windows 8.1 Update will be installed automatically or the user has options to postpone the installation for 1hr, 2hrs, etc. The
user of this computer tells me she went away from the machine and Windows 8.1 update installed automatically from one of these prompts.
I have seen these installation prompts on several of my customer's computers and they are not malware related (I deal with malware removal every day and would recognise this). However, I have scanned this computer with Bit Defender and MalwareBytes and there
    are no infections present.
The only difference between this Windows 8.1 Update and the others that I have carried out is that it wasn't controlled and therefore I wasn't able to disable the security software (Bit Defender Internet Security 2015). This may be the cause of the problem.
I've uploaded the two screenshots you asked for - the two new drives are W: and Z: and SugarSync is reporting that they have the same Volume Serial Numbers. Note: X: and Y: were not visible prior to the upgrade.
There are two Windows Update logs at C:\Windows\ so I will upload both.

  • Satellite L505D-S5965 got shutdown, hibernate and sleep problem after Windows 7 upgrade

I bought my Satellite L505D-S5965 last August. Everything worked fine on Vista. Last month I upgraded it to Windows 7 (Home premium, build 7600), then it started having problem to shutdown, hibernate and sleep. Half of the time, it will shutdown, hibernate or sleep just fine, however, the other half of the time it just never turns off.
For shutdown, it will go to the shutdown screen for 10 minutes until the a blue screen comes up, telling something about windows experience a crash and dumping memory, then it restarts itself.
For hibernation and sleep, it will go to the normal black screen but the hard disk light never turns off (i.e. the hardisk would keep running forever).
It will be a big help if someone can help me with that, I just don't want to keep doing the "hard turn off".

Hey thats great posting and detailed, thank you! :)
Im wondering how you found it out.
But I want to add something: Before you do or change something in Windows registry, make a backup of it. In worst case you restore the old Windows registry. Just to be sure ;)

  • Sleep problem after upgrading to Lion

I have a late 2009 MBP with 2 user accounts setup.  I normally log out of my user account and then close lid which puts it in sleep with the indicator light blinking.  Now after updating to Lion, it doesn't seem to go to sleep, the light is constantly on and it is gets very warm.  I don't have any external monitor attached or anything else.  I just tried leaving lid open and choosing "sleep" from login screen, that seems to work right but I don't like to have the lid open.  Now with the computer at sleep with lid open, closing lid will do the same as above.  Any ideas?

    First do this:
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
Second, update to 10.7.1 via Software Update or direct download - Apple OS X Lion 10.7.1.

  • Sleep issues after 10.4.7 upgrade

I upgraded to 10.4.7 immediately after it was issued and I had no issues. A couple of weeks later the FAX software Pagesender would not logout on a scheduled shutdown. I ran Diskwarrior to repair the directory and I thought ev3erything was OK but then all of a sudden my computer would not wake from sleep. By pushing numberous buttons it the screen would wake but the cursor was frozen. I checked my energy saver settings and noticed it was set to spin down the discs when possible. I unchecked this option and I thought that the problem was gone. I was away for a couple of days and I keep the computer on during the day as I receive some faxes and when I tried to acces the computer on my return I was back to square one. The only way I can get the computer to function normally is to do a hard restart. Any thoughts? This condition applys to my G4 desktop machine

Can you clarify if you've checked for any updates to your FAX software?
If you open Applications> Utilities> Console, go to the View menu, and slect show log list, does anything suggestive show up from around the time of one of the crashes? Look in system.log and console.log, in /Library/logs/Crash Reporter, and in /var/log/fax

  • 8350i Sprint-Nextel problems after OS 5.0 upgrade

    1. Keyboard lock icon gone.  Function now works via "MUTE" key.
    2. Some application shortcuts no longer work ("protocol not supported - type in a different url" is the message). Unresolved - no solution found.
    3. No matter what notifier or downloaded song I pick as the SMS or MMS message alert, alert rings as "notifier-crystal" even though something else appears on the ring tone line.  Unresolved - no solution found.
    4. Text message problem (before and after upgrade) - MMS/SMS messages not being received (intermittent).  Only way I know its happening is if I try to send a text and get a red "x" or friends call me and ask why I haven't responded to their texts.  Simple solution - turn unit off then on (battery pull not needed).  Then text messages start pouring in.  Work OK for a while then they stop again.  Tech assistance did some over-the-air resets and made me change/verify some settings.  Did not work.  I find myself turning phone off and on several times daily as a band-aid solution.  Sometimes occurs with emails too.  Very annoying.

    Welcome to the forums
OS 5.0 isn't official yet so you may face bugs/issues with it. Other than that, I can suggest a battery pull and resending your service books from the BIS site.

  • Problems after iOS 4.2 upgrade.

Hello everyone, hope you are all well.
Could use some help to restore my 2G Touch after upgrading it to 4.2 the other day. During the upgrade, all it`s music and all the app`s were lost, but after re-synching only the music and the original factory app`s returned. None of my downloaded app`s ( paid for and free )returned.
Several e-mails to Apple support and trying their fixes have not solved the problem.
    Any idea`s?. Cheers, Pete.

After you re-download any App, you probably need to turn the check-mark (for Syncing) back on for each of those Apps.
Connect iPod and while it is Syncing, look on Device/Apps and after making sure *Sync Apps* is ticked on, look at each individual app on the list below the *Sync Apps* box and make sure they all have a tick in their box.
By the time you've made any changes here, the Sync may have gone past Apps or even finished completely, so you need to Sync or Apply after your change.

  • Start up problems after 10.6.2 upgrade

After upgrading to 10.6.2 my computer restarted and hung up on a circle with a line through it. I restarted, the same. i reinstalled Snow Leopard and can now run normally. I ran Disk Utility and it said everything was fine.
I want to keep my iBook Pro running up to date software, but I want to solve this first. According to a document on the support website, the circle with a slash through it means, "could not load boot.efi, or some other issue" and I have no idea what that means or what to do about it.
    Thoughts?

That's a little helpful. Thanks. I did use Disk Warrior a couple of years ago but stopped when it stopped launching, giving me some error code I couldn't decipher.
Now what do I need to do about? Will the problem reoccur if I try to upgrade again?

  • Font problems after 10.6.2 upgrade

    Hello!
Just after upgrading to 10.6.2, al the iwork documents (Pages and Keynote) that use Time New Roman (originally Office documents) are unreadable due to a kerning problem that affects only this font (that I know of).
Did somebody had the same problem and have the fix? I already removed the duplicate fonts. Thanks.
    Message was edited by: ddoneda

I migrated several Word files over to Pages recently. The only warning I got was with Times New Roman in one file which was odd as all the files use the Times New Roman (TrueType font). Once the files were open I changed all the text to Pages Helvetica without any problems (I use Word (Office 2007) under Windows and Word (2004) for Mac OS for documents with bibliographies). My initial problem with Pages was due to Hoefler font which was resolved when I trashed it.
